The bathroom is old and dated .. In the ceiling were all cracks in .. plus the air conditioning was not top. We got a fan there .. You should NOT order the taxi from the concierge who ask $ 180. At the door you have to ask. It is cheaper there (110 eu). 2 years ago I was here too. Then I was 80 mad but lost at the concierge. That was cheap. The people are nice. They can't help it. It's the higher ones .. the location is beautiful it's close to everything and especially times square! That is ideal when it comes to walking.

Great location. Close to theaters. Hector, valet was incredibly helpful. Free wifi. Mohammed at the front desk very helpful. I would not stay here again. Bathtub was clogged. There was no dresser and no table space (and no floor space) so we had to open/close our luggage to get at our clothes each time. There was no desk lamp and the hair dryer was broken.

This is an OK place to stay. If you want a comfortable, clean bed it's fine. The decor is dated. The photos shown on the website I believe are from a renovated floor which cost more to have. The staff are friendly and helpful. The rooms are a good size for their location.

I came here a couple of years ago and had no complains, this year, the room was dirty, the tub had mold, it was dusty, the room wasn t that neat, the bed was uneven, we had to take the steps because there were long lines in the elevator. We were very disappointed and we are not coming back here again.

This hotel is more like a low budget motel, the rooms are nasty and the hallways are creepy. They gave us room 1435 the bed wasn't made and the towels look used from previous guest. There was blood on the bathroom wall and the furniture look like it was there since the hotel opened. I complained and the room was upgraded, as we went into the hallway it was the same creepy look but are new room 2131 had a fresh painted door. However when we went in, granted it was cleaner and it did not smell like a subway. But it was the Motel look again and there were broken things like the light socket, tiles on the bathroom wall and the shower was full of mold. I guess the plus is the lobby was pretty and the staff was nice. I will never stay in this hotel again, and I will leave to a new hotel for the rest of my stay.
Good luck with bates motel!!

These rooms need renovation and a good cleaning *stat*.

Good location a stones throw from mean girls . I got a good rate via Groupon but was told there is a $40 add on fee. This makes the cost at $130, cheap for location but you can find much much nicer hotels for not much more depending on the date.

I personally wouldn t stay here again. If you are the type who spends next to No time in the room besides sleep it is probably doable.

Great Property. Great Location. Great Staff. What more could you ask for?

We stayed at The Manhattan once again and as always we are very happy with our experience. I have stayed at other hotels in NYC - this hotel allows you to take in the NYC experience that you can't get at other hotels. Location is a really big factor and The Manhattan Hotel nails it. Quit spending hours searching and reading reviews...book this hotel and start packing your suitcase!

This hotel will nickel and dime you to death. I loved the location but hated that there were additional charges applied for haveing a SUV instead of a reg car. Once you park your car, every time you want to use it is $50. It said free WiFi but that was a charge, so the lobby was filled with people on their laptops and phones. Not Classy for the amount you are paying to stay there. The A/C didn't work right, we could never get the room cool....even standing in from of the unit. It SUCKED! The people at the front desk are rude, unhelpful and RACIST!!

I stayed back in January of 2019 and my stay was not all that great, they hotel rooms were disgusting and the staff was rude other than that it is located in a great place which is probably the only good thing I have to say about it.

great location, 200 meters from Times Square and super connected via Subway and bus. The rooms are a bit spartan, not large and furnished with slightly dated furniture. Excellent service and equally the welcome and services.

My rating 5 is for a 3 star hotel. If your expectation is of a superior hotel you will probably be disappointed, but in the worst case you can pay more and locate yourself in the superior rooms that the hotel has. For my part, the hotel complied with everything I expected. Clean room, change of towels and comfortable bed to rest. It does not have a minibar but on all floors there are soda and ice machines. The price can be a bit expensive for a 3 star (in your basic room) but the location is truly unbeatable. I went in spring but with a temperature of 0 to 12 degrees and the heating was sufficient for a pleasant stay. I would not know if with much lower temperatures like those registered in winter, it would have been the same. Regarding the staff, they were very friendly, a few spoke Spanish but that is normal in New York. Faced with a problem in the heating responded quickly and solved our request.

Rooms are really dated and showed a bad taste for decoration. Stayed there three days, there wasn't enough hot water to shower in temps in the mid 20s in the month of April and the heat couldn't be turned up in the room. Also, the hotel has no restaurant. Only good thing is the location which is a couple of blocks away from Times Square.

Disgusting, poorly maintained. The rooms needed to be vacuumed and dusted, the carpet in the hallway need to be shampooed, doors need to be painted, and the elevators need to be cleaned and polished. The only redeeming quality was the front desk and bell staff, who were polite and helpful. Do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else.

It's a good hotel overall. It is a bit old and the rooms need a facelift, the place is nice but some of the furniture shows signs of wear.
(Addition to my review:) I'm changing my review to five starts because, based to my past review, the staff at the Manhattan replied privately to me offering to take in consideration my review to improve and fix what needs to be fixed. This, to me, is very important and speaks very nice about their commitment to their customers/ guests. Kudos to The Manhattan and I would definitively stay there on my next trip to The Big Apple.

We stayed at this hotel for new years, we had a room with no heat at all!! For my wife experiencing new years in NY for the first time , it was a huge disappointment. We informed front desk about that heat issue. Someone came, by the way he spoke, it was a known issue. He said that he would raise the temperature, but we still had to sleep with socks on, and wake up with that noisy A/C unit. No one ever came back to us about that issue, apparently there wasn't a management member present on our departure day because I had to leave a message...
Looking at the floor, all corners were dirty, accumulating dust. There was debris under the A/C unit in our room. The hallway on the 12th floor is "busted", the carpet stitched up but you can easily fall if your foot get caught in it. (see pictures)
For $500 a night, this is not what you would expect. This hotel is just playing on its location, high prices for nothing much. Waste of money

A great location if you're looking to stay in Times Square. You're better off finding a deal at this place, since it would easily be overpriced. If you're looking for something "fancy" look elsewhere. If you're seeking "affordable" this is it.

Listen, I m not here to convince you not to stay at this hotel- I just want you to lower your standards before booking this hotel.

Cons-

Apparently some rooms have been remodeled, but not the overwhelming majority, from conversations I ve head with other guests. It is old and outdated. Do not believe the pictures on the website.

If you do decide to order food- it cannot be delivered to your room, not even with verification from the front desk that you did order the food.

I honestly don t know when the last time this hotel checked the fire alarm system was, but as you can see- the sprinkler system and alarm look pretty old and unkempt.

Yes, the hotel has security, but foundational safety features, such the as manual metal lock, was almost falling out of my door AND the door lacked the ability to close on its own. When we first checked in, I didn t push the door all the way shut because most hotels have doors that are designed to automatically close completely- a key safety feature. I was pretty surprised when I got up to leave and the door hadn t shut all the way.

The handicap accessible bar in the bath tub probably isn t very reliable. (See picture below.)

There is no fridge or microwave in the rooms- so don t even think about leftovers.

Early check ins should not be expected.

Pros-

SOME of the staff are friendly and helpful. (Partial con- a couple staff members seem genuinely bothered by doing their job.)

The hotel is close to almost everything you want to see in NYC.

And that s about it. There are a lot of fees and this isn t a cheap hotel. I will say that they didn t take the incidental fee , which is returnable upon check out anyway.

I have worked in the hotel industry and this stay was a huge disappointment. Generally, if I check into a hotel and it is this unsatisfactory, I immediately check out without regard for how much money I may lose but my daughter liked the hotel and we were dead tired after waking up at 2 am to catch our flight here and then being forced to walk around for 3 hours before a room was ready- they explained that they were fully booked and they DID have a room ready about 2 hours early for us.

I honestly wouldn t book at this hotel again with so many other options available at the same price point and in the same area.

I would give less if I could. We checked in on Thanksgiving night. They had one person working the front...which was lovely. However that s where the lovely ended. The hall looked like a scene from The Shining. The room was so run down we couldn t believe it. The bed was tilted to one side and the bathroom paint was falling on my head as I showered. We asked for a mini fridge which they provide for $25 a stay bc we have a newborn and have formula....we asked 3x and it never came. They offered us an executive room for $75 extra a night which we accepted. When we returned that evening they told us it had flooded so was not available. We had to drag our stuff back to the old room. The people next to us had crammed a bunch of people had never slept...yelled and talked all night. We had to get security there so our kids could sleep. My kid got sick and at 3 am I went to get her a Gatorade and NyQuil...$21. It s fine to charge more but come on. The only thing I can say is for nyc, the rooms are big. That s it. This is a terrible hotel.

DISGUSTING!!! False Advertisement!!!! This is the most run down and nasty AND smelly hotel that I ve ever been to. The photos are not at all what the rooms look like. They are old, wall paper peeling off the walls. The rooms are bathed in the smell of cigarette smell. The bathrooms are old with old and dirty tubs. We showed up after about 24hrs of traveling only to be told that our king sized payed for room wasn t available so we had to get a queen. If we wanted a non-smelly room, we d have to move to 2 separate twin beds.WE ARE ON OUR HONEYMOON. When we asked for the manager the poor guy was kind and understood and stated that he gets these complaints frequently. As a matter of fact the women in front and in back of us in the complaint line all had the same complaints. I hope this spares you the unfortunat situation of having to stay here. I m so upset. They did offer our money back but we had to cancel then and there (almost midnight) and all the other hotels in the area with a booking done so late are sky rocket prices. It saves to book ahead but how could we have known that the pictures on the site were completely different in EVERY way from what reality is. It looks worse than a side street motel.

Before I begin listing the negative things I experienced at this hotel I do want to note that it s location is great. It s right near Times Square and has many great places to eat and shop near it. Of course there s a little bit of a walk to get to Times Square, but it s New York so that s what you should expect.
As for the hotel, I don t think I d be staying here again. When we arrived the lobby gave us the impression that this was going to be a very nice, clean, modernized hotel. But once we got up to our room on the 17th floor, we noticed water damage on the walls and carpet. This place clearly has not be updated in the past 10-15 years I would say.
When we got into our room it was definitely smaller than what was pictured on the website, we noticed dust around the floor boards on the carpet, dust on the sprinkler, our dresser had a thick layer of dust and had definitely not been cleaned in a long time. Our bathroom tiles were all cracked, the wallpaper was peeling and the ceiling in the bathroom had water damage where the toilet above us was most likely located. Our sink and tub filled up with water and took a while to drain. The tub was also dirty with dark brown spots and hair. Our bed sheets and pillow cases had dark stains on them scattered all over the place.
If it wasn t for the fact that the location was great and we were not able to get our money back we probably would have gone else where.
I ve noticed other people experienced similar things with their stay here and the hotel staff has replied to them with the same predesigned message stating that they ll talk to their staff and fix the issues, but clearly nothing has been fixed. I hope they do not reply to my review, I don t want to read it.
You would figure for the price and location of this hotel it would be worth your while.

Service was bearly passible (weren't afraid to stop serving you to collect tips from other guests), elevators were slow especially when there were big groups around and toilets had tiny pipes but location was great and rooms were fairly large for the area.

The location is hotel is very near to Time square but my reason of giving poor rating is
1. Not all floors and rooms are renovated
2. I was given rooms on 5th floor which were poorly managed
3. Rooms were having foul smell, doors were making lot of noise

I just spent the last 10 nights in The Manhattan Hotel and my overall experience was less desirable and quiet miserable. I was with a very large group of approximately 55 people that all stayed the same length of time. The hotel is old and dirty. Our restroom faucet was installed backwards and the water pressure was very slow. We had to leave our AC unit on 68 degrees because otherwise it would not cool the room so I froze at night. UGH! For about 20 minutes and after several flushes we smelled raw sewage in our bathroom thankfully the smell went away after we poured water in the toilet several times. The ice machine on the 18th floor wasn't working either so we had to go down to the 17th floor to get ice. The elevators were very, very slow though they did have a sign saying they were being remodeled. Unfortunately, the sign didn't reference any of the other issues I experienced during my expensive stay. We were literally four blocks from Good Morning America and two blocks from the Today Show but could not watch either network from our hotel room. We may have had 10 cable channels but could not watch any of the three major network channels. UGH! The best part of our stay was the sweet lady, Ms. Lilly that made sure we had clean bed linen, towels and that our room and restroom was as clean as possible during our stay.

I would NOT recommend staying at this hotel. It was so bad that I began checking the mattress for bed bugs. I was really disappointed because I would have expected a MUCH nicer hotel especially since it is in the heart of Time Square. Unfortunately for me, I didn't check the ratings before I arrived. Next time I will NOT stay anywhere that is not a major chain. Staying in a local chain was a risk that I will NOT subject my family to again. The final straw for me was my attempt to check out only to be told that the final bill would not be ready until after 2am but I would have to physically come down and check out at the front desk. They would NOT slide the receipt under my door. The owners of this hotel have made very little investment into this prime real estate which is extremely saddening. They got their last dollar from me. Very disappointed!!!

Friendly staff, clean rooms, great location. Lacking amenities (no fan in bathroom, no fridge, no microwave). Quality varies from floor to floor. The room I was in was ok, but visibly worn down. It's a nice place for the location and price.

We were met at curbside by the bellman Al and greeted at the front desk by Guillermo. Both gentlemen were extremely friendly and welcoming, made us feel right at home. After briefly mentioning our daughters bday at check in, Guillermo brought up two small bags of small bday goodies for both kids. Over the three day stay the cleaning lady and front desk staff went out of their way to be attentive to our every need. Very impressed, definitely staying here again soon!
