This is a soft three-star review. The only reason why I'm giving it 3 stars is because we were randomly upgraded to their balcony suite. Which is actually awesome. I'd request room 2245 when coming here. I'm going to light up a nice cigar overlooking Times Square.

This is NOT a 4 star unless they base it out of 100 stars. My room had 3-bed bugs crawling on my Bed, the Carpets were So filthy, the bathroom was disgusting Pig Pen of a hotel. Don't stay there it's one of the worst hotels I have ever been in, worse than 3rd world.
The hotel lobby is gorgeous but the rooms, beds, and bathrooms are too small and way outdated. The elevators were also very small and rarely was I able to go down on the elevator. I found myself waiting, sometimes for 15 minutes, to go down 7 floors.
Stayed at this hotel in June 2017. Originally we were "upgraded" to a better room on the 5th floor. The room was acceptable but looks dated and is in desperate need of an overhaul. The washroom was very nice with a double sink and a walk in shower. The shower had little to weak pressure and took forever to get any hot water (literally 10 mins with all faucets on full hot to purge the line). None of the doors seem to work/lock properly. Front door locked but you couldn't deadbolt it. Washroom door couldn't close properly unless you heaved on the handle; but once you do, you can't lock the door. We checked out a few days later and that was that.
We ended up having to go back for one more night since our flight was cancelled. We asked the front desk if we could upgrade to a higher floor since we didn't have much of a view on the 5th floor. We ended up all the way up on the 21st floor. Needless to say, I wish we were back to our original upgraded room. The 21st floor room smells like stale weed and cigarettes (like someone hotboxed the room next door and the smell came to our room - this is a non-smoking room). The washroom is extremely small and dirty with mold and water damage. Again, the room is extremely outdated and needs a major overhaul. I thought the 5th floor shower was already pretty bad but the 21st floor shower made the 5th floor look like a fire hose. It was so bad that I didn't feel clean coming out of the shower.
This building is extremely old and needs major work.
It deserves 2 stars because the lobby looks really nice and smells pretty good (comparable to Vegas hotel scents). It also is situated at a pretty convenient location; close to Central Park, Rockefeller, minutes away from Time Square, and easy access to the Subway.
I'm from Arizona and everything in New York is expensive lol. This is the best hotel that I found at last minute. It doesn't have a microwave or a refrigerator. Overall it's pretty decent.
This place was absolutely horrendous, and I implore you not to stay there. My friend and I were disgusted by the hallways, the bathroom, and the bed. I wanted to like this place, but every aspect of it was atrocious.
This is the worst hotel I have stayed at in years. I am a seasoned business travel professional and in 10 years have not stayed in a hotel that was as dirty, noisy and had such an uncaring, unresponsive staff. I checked in and there was no room ready. The desk clerk took my cell and promised to call when a room was available. Two hours later I checked back and was told my room had been ready for 1.5 hours. I went up to my room and was unable to unpack my bath necessities or put things away in drawers because it was so dirty. I called the front desk to have the bathroom and drawers cleaned and went out to meetings. When I returned, they were still filthy. I called the front desk and waited on hold for 10 mins for a manager. Finally, I went downstairs to the front desk only to be told that the manager was on a break and no one knew when they might return. Hoping to cancel this reservation and stay elsewhere. Advice to future travelers considering this hotel: do no stay here! Carpets are worn and fraying, ceiling in the bath is peeling, sink and floor are filthy, drawers are dirty. Staff could care less. Nothing to recommend this hotel other than proximity to a lot of things to see and do in NYC.
I recently stayed at the Manhattan at Times Square for a short budget-friendly vacation. Overall, I'm quite pleased with my stay and found the hotel more than adequate for the cost.
First, the standard rooms are definitely dated with my room having retro pink bathroom tile and functional but decidedly worn furniture. That said, there was a good flat screen TV and one of the most comfortable hotel beds I've ever slept in. The bathroom, while old school, was quite fine noting that the tub had a rust spot and the shower faucet system was very loose. Again, worn but workable.
Otherwise, the room was very clean (yes I did check under the bed sheets and checked under the mattress even), quiet at night, and perfectly comfortable for my stay. The hotel staff were also excellent, even letting me have the room earlier than their normal check-in. I'd certainly stay here again. The location is fantastic - a short walk to the fabulous dining in Hell's Kitchen, one block to the subway, and a couple of blocks to Times Square.
Let me close with one brief note - the hotel charges a resort/amenities fee that covers use of the Wifi, exercise room, and other features (e.g. free international calling). It runs around $30/night. I don't know if this is optional, but if none of these features are necessary for your travel, you might want to check about it.
I wish I could give negative star !! Yes the location is convenient .. BUT .. Be prepared to be ripped off / scammed. My wife and I stayed 3 nights .. Fully prebooked and prepaid yet woke up the day of checking out to an invoice of $US30 plus tax for each night .. Totaling $US97.98 .. These charges were totally unexpected and referenced to service charges. When I raised the question at the check out desk the lady explained the additional charges were a service fee for each night. The service fee is to allow the use of the phone and allowed us to use a meeting room. She was quite rude and ubrupt to be questioned over the invoice. We never used the phone at all nor the meeting room. But still had to pay the charges for the service's we never used. ITS A SCAM .. BEWARE !! The lady said she had never been questioned over these additional charges as every hotel did this. Later that day we booked into the Grand Hyatt and upon check in we asked if the same additional charges would apply and this lady said No and that she had never heard of such a thing. I will never ever go back to the Manhattan ever nor recommend them ever !! I highly recommend stay away from the Manhattan and I do highly recommend the much nicer Grand Hyatt who does not scam their customers. New York is great and we will be back .. But choose your accomodation carefully or be ready for a rude surprise. I AM planning on contacting fair trading after my holiday to report this as I believe the Manhattans practices in regards to "service fees" are both unethical and illegal !!
If the Manhattan remove this post I will repost, not only here but also on trip adviser and yelp because the public need to be pre-warned, which we were not. Not good business folks, not good at all.
Oh .. And the drain pipe had disconnected itself from underneath the bathroom sink, water ran all over the floor .. but that I can handle as its mechanical and could be overcome.
Room was not as advertised, it was a dive compared to the photos listed. Ceiling leaked water/plaster all over my luggage, damaging all my belongings. Staff was friendly and helpful, they switched us to another room that wasn't leaking but had a foul odour so strong it made me sick.
Absolutely a great if not the best hotel to be in when you visit or ever plan to visit New York. Great service and nice hostesses. The hotel is also at a very good location in Manhattan, close to Times Square, Rockefeller and many other landmarks. Great bar service also.
APPALLING!! We arrived at night and they did not have our room they sent us to another cheaper hotel and they told us to come back the next day for the second night and that we would have no problems and believe! They had no room on our second night many people with the same problem waiting for the manager to see where they were accommodated !! Terrible!
Great location, not 5 minutes to Times Square! However, you should not choose the standard room, these are clean but relatively Spartan. Service of the staff is good.
My room was smelling like weed, and someone called my room phone at 1:00 AM. Really old hotel, old furnitures, and you have to wait for elevators (a lot). Will never come back, and will make sure that nobody from my company comes to this hotel again.
The only good thing about this hotel was the location. Rude staff. Reached at 12 checkin time was 2 and we were asked to wait until 3 to checkin. Room lobby everything was dated and was stinking. No service but they would be upfront in asking for high tip amounts even for stuff like handing over your bags. Avoid at all costs!!
Lets put it this way. Mold gross hot. The ac controls wasnt not connected to anything. The bed was 100 years old it felt like. The carpet wasnt fully even on the floor. The bathroom was mold city. The smoke detector was broke. And there was open wires on a light fixture. I was itching all night in the bed. And the towels had stains. Oooo and the knobs on the sink were not secure. 0 out of 5 stars camping in a maarsh would be cleaner and better then this waste of a building.
Rude staff, hidden fees after paid online. Rooms didn't seem too good. I wouldn't choose this hotel for my next visit. Also regular rooms seem to have really bad walls, could hear the neighbor easily, bad experience.
The room was disgusting. There was dust EVERYWHERE. The walls had scuff marks all over them. It would take 30 seconds to clean those up. And the hallways are so gross. The carpets need to be cleaned. The location was nice but way overpriced. And don't be alarmed when you get charged a hotel fee....$30 for "amenities".
The Manhattan Hotel was one of the best I have ever been to. It's right in the heart of Times Square and couldn't be a better location. Nice rooms and great views.
When we found out that our flight had got canceled due to mechanical issues we went downstairs to talk to the receptionist and they made accommodations very quickly for us to stay another night for an extreme discounted rate.
The staff was very friendly and helpful. They had plenty of good suggestions on local spots to eat, places to catch a drink and things to do in the area.
In particular the Bellman Mike Miller was very professional and had a great personality. He was very approachable and friendly when we wanted suggestions on what to eat or help to better understand the crazy subway system.
There were other staff that were very helpful and professional as well. Unfortunately I don't remember their names or didn't catch it. However the hospitality my girlfriend and I received while at the Manhattan was unrivaled from any other Hotel experience.
The +: The location near Time Square The bedding is comfortable spring The wifi in the rooms
The - : Need a refresh of the rooms The king size bed which is not one Anecdotal Gym (15m x 4m) The "faciity fees" (taxes of $ 30 / day) slipped under the door the last night at the hotel.
The view from the room was awesome but the room itself wasn't at all, the interiors were pretty old style and not well cleaned, the bathroom as well was really old... plus, the ROOF fell in the bathroom while we were sleeping! the day after we saw some wall into the bath and the toilet... definetly a don't unless they re-do the structure a bit!
It's an average hotel for a high price. You get beds and a bathroom, and a TV but that's about it. No fridge, no microwave, and definitely not sound proof walls. Upside you're right in time Square but that only counts if you want that.
My overall recommendation is don t come here. The location it is excellent but the Hotel is behind of the kind the services that you can receive from the another brands. The initial price invite you to book the room. But they will charge you $40 facilities fee to use the common areas like lobby, internet. the internet is not to work never and the coman areas are very dirty. The the rooms are in bad shape, maintenance, cleanliness are very bad.
Stayed here our first time in NYC. We travel a lot so we tend to be picky but we're very pleased with our room. We did accept the upgrade offer so our room was a little nicer but definitely planning on staying here again. It's in the perfect location!
Horrible, the rooms claim to have queen beds, but they are really full, super small, don't get carried away by the photos. The roof of the bathroom broken and barely fits one person. Lousy customer service and luggage require a tip. The TV has no signal, old and broken cabinets. The location does not justify all the flaws that are inside the hotel.
Poor and old hotel. Doesn't worth the money. Very noisy, even in the highest floors. Windows are not sound-proof and the Times square is literally inside your room. Room, especially the bathroom, is poorly maintained. The Hotels' three elevators cannot support the rush hours, and we waited more then ten minutes each time we needed to use them. Finally, the hotel charged 30$ + tax per day for Hotel fee, but no extra amenities were given in exchange.
Hotel needs remodeling. Got a suite and the bathroom ceiling looked like it was about to fall in. Was told the room had two pull out couches and a twin bed plus the king size bed in the bedroom. Only had one pull out couch (Family of 5 so actually needed sleep space). Overall wish I had stayed some place nicer, but the location is amazing
The WORST. Hotel was horrible. Upon entering the lobby, you would think this was a 5 star place... WRONG! After checking in, exiting the elevator on my floor and all the other floors I saw, I felt like it was a complete bait and switch. Total disbelief that this was the same hotel. I went back to the desk and had a very serious conversation. The WHOLE carpet was ripped and coming up, the walls were VERY dirty, old wallpaper peeling and scuffed, the room was the same and SMALL!!!! My king bed left me with approximately 1 foot to walk around the bed. The bathroom door..I almost had to turn sideways to get in. Unfortunately I didn't take any pictures of the OLD room, just the bugs that were in it. We were afraid we would leave there with beg bugs. Due to the nonrefundable money after my front desk discussion, we stayed. When we went out to handle business and party, we stayed out as long as possible, even sat in the lobby as late as possible. May have slept 3 hours in the room...Smh. Parking is $80 under the hotel unless you get an 'Icon Parking Groupon' AHEAD of checking in. (Wish I'd known before)
The ONLY good thing is the location. Literally 3 blocks from Times Square! Next door to Ellen Degeneres Restaraunt (long lines). 5 blocks from central park.
Could not have had it better! From staff being extremely accommodating and friendly to a lovely clean room. Very comfortable beds and great size room. Cannot understand bad reviews. Excellent location. Would come back here without hesitation. Thank you.
Rooms are dirty and old dust everywhere. Bathroom was dirty and full of mold and mildew and smell like urine had to go out and buy bleach to clean the bathroom myself! They need a serious upgrade!
This Hotel I went to do a special Details there they have no bathroom on the floor I had next to the Elevator working Security I left my book bag there for less 20 minutes to go used the bathroom and get red bull downstairs they stole my bag the front desk telling me they don't know I am gonna file a report with the police then which is midtown north I am may not be surprise if I am the only one I would come stay here I am about to get lawyer to get my stuff back the amount of stuff I had in that bag worth money I will my stuff back with a lawyer after I lost my bag I notice there are no Security camera on the floors which is a downfall for this hotel always have security camera we are in 2018 I went the said wouldn't help security won't come out to take report
Ideally situated for everything in Manhattan. Near to Subways, buses and taxis. Within walking distance of the Hudson River, Central Park, Times Square and Broadway. The staff are professional and very friendly. The breakfast bar for a $5 donation to charity is well worth it, one of the cheapest coffee and doughnuts you will find in New York. You are paying a premium for being so centrally placed. The hotel is pleasant but areas of it look in need of renovation. Our room was spacious and the bed enormous. We slept soundly on a very comfortable bed despite the fact that New York never sleeps. The room was cleaned regularly but we needed extra coffee etc for the room as no hotel meets our coffee consumption. The bathroom was clean but needed modernising.
We found everyone in New York very friendly and welcoming. The transport is fantastic. We enjoyed our stay in the Manhattan at Times Square.
Staff great, lobby great. The rooms wouldn't cool down with the thermostats. We had 4 rooms and it was the same in every room. Upset that the website said there was a continental breakfast which was true, but it was only free if you purchased a really expensive room.
The only good thing about this hotel is the location. It s very conveniently located. Within walking distance of a lot of tourist spots. The rooms were okay, but it didn t matter because we were venturing the city all day.
I am currently staying in the Manhattan Hotel until 26. Really disappointed the rooms are too old super room the rooms the hallway. The photos on the site do not correspond at all, I sent an email asking for me to stay in the rooms renouve but it was not taken into account, because on the 22 floors there is only one only that has been renovated, too noisy, do not deserve three-star the only advantage is that we are really in the heart of New York
Very friendly, excellent staff, the location practically 100 meters from time square ... The idea of cleaning in new york is unfortunately an optional ... The rooms are very spacious ..... There is no smoking room. . !!!
The pros: great location The-: very dated rooms, costly compulsory service charge at $ 33 per day, catastrophic soundproofing, very poor reception, luggage service catches tourists: the person wants TIPS before and after depositing and collecting luggage
The drinks are delicious. Sleep here so remember Jane in a fresh 'fireflies in Manhattan' with city views. It's good to hang out at night - drink and look at the street.
The rooms seem to compromise with the price. The toilet is too bad and the ventilation fins are full of dust. The water mold odor of the shower curtain is enormously tough. I want to go to someone who can sleep well only because I am close to moving around.
