No customer service at all. Service is not good. But restorants and Beach perfect. No Wi-Fi in rooms (can't connect) At&t antenna is bad. We found bed bags. A/c sometimes doesn't work and U have to call engineer, even if it's 10:00pm, like my situation now. Yesterday electricity been turned off for 20min. Nobody cares about hotel's problems. Nobody cares about U. Don't waste your money here. This hotel doesn't make your vacation good 09/20/16
I went to this place once and never going again. I don t know what was worst the service, staff, management or sorroundig areas. I rather sleep on beach sand than this hotel. They should close it and make an outback or chili s. I bet the the island would appreciate it more. Any how, thanks for giving me the opportunity to review your business for you guys to improve it, which is much needed. 0 starts and don t try to contact me. Blessed.
Service was absolutely some of the worse I have had. Employees are rude and make it seem as they had to go out of there way to help the guest. Rooms are small and dirty. On two restraunts with very limited menu. Will not be coming back.
I had a wonderful vacation at Dreams. The staff were very accommodating and flexible for our comfort. you can always find something wrong with such a large place ,but I had a dream vacations. I wanted thank the staff for making my vacation memorable .Also thanks for the red velvet birthday cake.
My boyfriend and I were just at the SugarBay in July of 2013 for his cousins wedding. I HIGHLY recommend doing the all inclusive package, as food and drinks is a bit pricey. We splurged and got an ocean view room and it was phenomenal! I wish I could remember her name, but the girl at the front desk as incredibly helpful and friendly and gave us "the best view in the place". Our housekeeper, Verlin was a gem as well. She went out of her way to give us recommendations as to where to visit on the island and even helped me decide on what to wear to the wedding. The majority of the alcoholic beverages we had were watered down, however one bartender named Ross was the exception. I asked him to surprise me with a drink and he did not disappoint, he called it the "Ross-a-coolada". I also very much enjoyed snorkeling and kayaking on their private beach. They also had karaoke nights and a carnival which consisted of fun live entertainment and overpriced vendors (I recommend shopping in town instead). The wedding was on a balcony that over looked the surrounding islands and was breathtaking. The only downside I would say is that the food at the wedding was inedible. The bride seemed to have a wonderful time. With that said, there was also a few more downsides of the resort overall. For instance, saying that they have 5-6 restaurant options is very deceiving, in reality there are only 2 open at a time, max. The shuttle service is also a flaw in that we waited once for 15 minutes in the heat to be picked up and taken back to the main lobby (there is a flight of about 100 stairs to get from the pool to the main lobby and at that moment we didn't feel like making the trek). Overall, the resort is great if you are looking for a great all inclusive package, however there are a few kinks that the resort needs to work out. Personally I would have enjoyed to stay somewhere with more of the island feel as I am a culture junky. I also encourage anyone who goes to the resort to venture out and see what the rest of the island(s) have to offer. Snorkeling in Trunk Bay in St. John was the highlight of my trip. Don't let the couple of bad reviews scare you away, this place is paradise even if there are a few kinks.
I was hesitant about where to stay for my first trip to St. Thomas. Sugar bay was nice. Rooms have been updated. Staff was very friendly. We did all inclusive. Food was excellent. Breakfast, lunch, dinner was great. Very good quality food for all inclusive. You can always find something that wasn't up to par but I have no complaints. Just overall a great experience. And St.Thomas and St. John are BEAUTIFUL. Best trip of my life!! And I'm very hard to please. We have found our home away from home and it's the US Virgin Islands
We stayed here with a group of 30 people for a wedding. I must say that I love the up to date rooms. It was clean and well kept. The food was great and the staff very friendly. I would stay here again.
So sad they were devastated by the hurricanes. I don't believe they've been able to recover even now. What a setup though. Perched high on a hill overlooking the ocean, with a full resort pool, spa, and sports club. They even have a private beach and they're right next door to Linquist Beach, which is incredibly beautiful and not as crowded as Coki Point. Once they re-open it will be a premiere destination on the US Virgin Islands again.
For those who scheduled something around when the hurricane happened: give it a rest. You aren't getting a refund. Natural disasters aren't the fault of hotels, airlines, etc. That's the chance you take on any travel. If you didn't have trip insurance, that's your own fault.
Definitely not a Ritz Carlton but that's the nice thing about it. We feel comfortable. Its clean, staff are kind and friendly, food is very good and its a great. Place to relax
Spent a week down there and had a wonderful time. Had great views from our room of the sunrises. The people there are great to deal with. I would go back.
Awful management . Rude staff. Total ripoff. Dirty property, poorly kept landscaping. Don't let their professional photos fool you. Steer clear of this property.
So relaxing. The manager upgraded me to a ocean view room that was to die for. I woke up to the sound and sight of a blue green ocean. One of the most relaxing places I been too. The staff was really nice as well. I'm looking forward to going there again.
Staying at Sugar Bay was really the best week I've possibly ever had. St. Thomas is absolutely BEAUTIFUL. I booked a Living Social all-inclusive deal and couldn't have been any happier. The room's view was gorgeous, the food was great (considering it was all-inclusive), and there were multiple options of where to eat. The beach was beautiful, pool was beautiful. The staff were SO, SO nice. I'd recommend this over and over again. I've been checking back weekly for another deal, but haven't found any :( I hope the all-inclusive deal goes back on Living Social eventually, because I'd purchase it again in a heartbeat. Thank you Sugar Bay!
We have stayed at Sugar Bay Resort for the past 2 years, the over all service was great. The second year we went in 2016 they fully renovated the lobby and the rooms. The room are very comfortable and clean. When we got to our room we was not satisfied with the view and my husband went back down to the front desk and Ann changed our room immediately and gave us a great room with the perfect view of the ocean. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The buffet food was very good although the restaurant food is pricy. The only down side to Sugar Bay is they took away the ping pong table and while trying to play basketball the balls were deflated due to staying out in the sun. Also sticks for the pool table were inoperable. I will still visit Sugar Bay again in the future when traveling to St Thomas.
Awful management - the only thing they couldn't screw up was the beautiful view!
Elevator to room - pitch dark with no working light; took 36 hours to fix!
Noodles Bar (part of all inclusive) - Ran out of noodles over an hour before closing TWICE. the last day, they were short of 50% of the items by 4pm and they opened at 3pm. They wanted you back to the normal restaurant that sold burgers, sandwiches, etc!
Fan in room - when it was on medium or high, it could fly off the ceiling at any moment as it shook violently. Brought to staff's attention all 3 days and nothing done except writing down the information at front desk each time like they were truly concerned; then again nothing.
AC in room - keep the TV on so you don't hear the roar at night.
Don't upgrade to an Ocean Room - they insisted our room was Ocean room because we have Bay view and over a mountaintop, there was a glimmer of the ocean.
Bartenders and regular staff were very friendly; but manager was awful and couldn't care what your problem was; just wrote it down knowing eventually you are leaving!
This is my first review ever; so it was worth my time to alert others of the pending problems you will get. Great views, nice pool, nice regular staff. Awful management.
I would not recommend staying at this resort. For the price they ask per night, I expected amazing hospitality. The hotel is filthy, it's overpriced and the staff is extremely unfriendly. The "Serenity Garden" smells like something is rotting all day and night and the stench is unbearable. The food was seriously subpar and very expensive. The breakfast buffet was completely covered in insects. All of the ice machines were broken and there's no communication amongst the hotel staff, so getting ice literally took 3 phone calls to the front desk and 30-45 minutes of waiting around. Additionally, the Sugar Bay beach is not well maintained. It was rocky, and there was a lot of seaweed growing in the shallow water.
The beach was small and rocky but not terrible. The dinners were very nice and the all inclusive is a must. Unfortunately the crowd is a little..... redneck..which gives the impression you are staying at a subpar resort. The staff is afraid to put a stop to the crazed drunk guests at times and apparently if you pretend to get bit by an iguana, the staff will pay wayyy more attention to you. (We witnessed a scam artist lady pretend to get attacked by an iguana and the staff ignored other guests the rest of the weekend to be at her beck and call) The pool was really nice and most of the public areas are very well kept. Our room was nice but the A.C. did not get the room below about 85 degrees, which was pretty uncomfortable at night. We did bring this to the attention of the staff but nothing was done. When we checked in at 2:30pm it took almost an hour for the staff to tell us our room was not ready. We went and grabbed food and came back and our room was still not available at 4:30pm so they set us up with another room. Most of the staff was incredible and really nice and St. Thomas is amazing but I would recommend looking elsewhere to truly enjoy your vacation.
From morning to evening, the staff at Sugar Bay Resort knows how to do customer service. Some of the staff who stand out in my mind are Laura Ann Thomas, Seon, and Charles Miller.
If every hotel, restaurant, store and airline on St. Thomas provided this type of customer service, it would be one of the most desired destinations in the world.
They turned a our family's trip delay due to airline cancellations into a trip delight.
We stayed the week of Valentine's. During our stay we had things taken from our room. Management checked the card swipe history and pin pointed who stole our things. I was promised to be reimbursed for the cost of stolen items. I even have emails as proof. To this day I still have not been reimbursed. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.
we decided to get married in the Virgin Islands and choose Dreams Sugar Bay through our travel agent. The food was good and the drinks were fine. The staff was friendly and helpful. I had left my cane in our room and didn't realize it till we were in the airport ready to come bome. I calle the hotel and housekeeping checked my room and found the cane. I sent a box to return it to me and they handle it with no problems. I am looking forward to returning and recommend it highly!
3rd day here the power will barely stay on 1st and 2nd day- no running water in bathroom- NO wifi- Perment sign at check in says it's broke. Bought from Dreams ----- nightmare dream this post is as of 9/19/2016. We booked our trip on old post --when Dreams own them...
Don't let this review overshadow the natural beauty of the local animals, plants and scenery of the islands but like most things in paradise the people ruin it. Most of the staff especially the younger individuals are extremely helpful and kind, however some of the typically older staff are rude and disheartened. The food is typical American fare which is not bad just redundant. The lowest point of the vacation was when a member of the housekeeping staff stole my prescription glasses from our room then I had to spend the remaining days not enjoying the sights. In addition the legal drinking age is 18, however many kids under that age were observed consuming the all-inclusive alcohol/ daiquiri's. Not really complaining since we were all young once but the late nights are filled with teens puking in corridors and poolside garbage cans. Lastly I understand the climate and time of the year are optimum for bugs but the presence of cockroaches walking around the main lobby is unacceptable, and makes you wonder where else they are since the kitchens/restaurants are attached to the lobby. By far the most enjoyable time was that the Golden Age Ranch where you can enjoy horseback riding along a private beach. This Ranch rescues horses, trains them and gives them a second chance at life where they're enjoyed.
My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon in 2017. We left about 3 days before the hurricane hit. We met some of the greatest people ever! The room was beautiful and had a great view! We enjoyed the staff, pool and bars!! Truly the best memories ever! It's so sad to hear that they haven't been able to recover from the Hurricane..I WOULD GO BACK IN A HEARTBEAT!!
My husband and I were visiting St. Thomas for the first time and booked this resort through Expedia. When we arrived a little early to check in we were told our room was not yet ready and to come back around 3PM (which turned out to be a lie). When we returned there was a line of frustrated and angry people. I was told the hotel manager needed to speak to me and when I asked why I didn't get an answer. When I finally made my way to the front desk I was told there were no rooms available for us!!! When I asked how this happened I was told "it happens sometimes" and "it's the same as when airlines overbook their flights."!! They ended up paying for our first night at the nearby Point Pleasant hotel and a group of other guests also had to spend their first night at Point Pleasant since they too didn't have their room at Sugar Bay. It seems like this happens a lot and is not an occasional mistake and it doesn't matter what travel site people used to book the reservation (Expedia, Travelocity, direct booking, etc.) all had similar issues when they arrived. They apologized for the "inconvenience" and I felt like they really didn't care how much stress this caused me and my husband and it was clear to me that they don't know how to run a resort. They also had the wrong checkout date for us as well. I called Expedia and they called Sugar Bay to make sure they had the correct checkout date and to refund our money for the first night. They also were going to forward my complaint to their complaint department. Even though Expedia confirmed the correct checkout date with Sugar Bay, Sugar Bay did not update their records and our room key was deactivated one day before we were checking out. Also, when we finally did get into our room we had issues with the air conditioner not working, no hot water, and a faulty light fixture. I will never stay here again and I do not recommend that anyone stay here because you are taking a chance that you will not have your room when you arrive.
We were skeptical because of reviews, however day one the skepticism was gone. What an amazing place, view and staff. Ocean View is definitely the room of choice. There were so many incredible workers we can't name them all. From check in to our final goodbyes from the porter, our experience was incredible. Definitely go all inclusive, sit back and enjoy. The only reason I can't give 5 stars is because the beach is rocky, but wear water shoes and you will beat that, or spend a day at Trunk beach on St. John's with a 15 minute ferry ride.
I would give zero stars if it was an option. THE WORST RESORT EXPERIENCE EVER. The front desk told us we didn't pay for all inclusive when we had. Spoke with them for 2 hours to no email. ***SCAM****
Where do I start? My wife and I decided to book the resort for our honey moon for the end of April through the first week of May. All we ever wanted was to have a dream wedding and dream honeymoon in the Caribbean. We were beyond stoked upon landing in the islands and could not wait to get to our room. We had paid for a Bay view and had the all inclusive package that is required for booking. Spent a lot of money for absolutely nothing!! We really regret not using Sandals like we had originally planned. We arrived at the hotel and were greeted promptly. I checked in to be taken to a small room that had the view of a roof top over another building and views of what looked like the slums going up the mountain. No view of the water in sight. I walked down to the front desk to inquire about the the room I had been led to believe we were getting from the pictures shown on the website and was told I had the bay view room and the sight of water was not promised. I thought BS on that one but it's my honeymoon so what is it going to take to get what I really wanted. After all you only expect to get married once. I ended up have to pay a steep price of $350 to move to a new room with a gorgeous view of the Caribbean and other islands. That was the best part of the entire stay. Lets not forget both rooms were still nasty looking especially the bathrooms. We get settled into the room and its two twin beds but we didn't care about that. We basically starved each night due to the food being disgusting. the only decent meal was breakfast in the morning and the grill by the pool but the exact same thing gets old real quick after a full week of eating their sub par food. The "chef" should be re evaluated on his performance and choice of menu and probably look at a local fast food joint to serve instead. The staff was extremely rude and need to go back to training for hospitality. These people seemed like they hated their life. On the second night we were there our A/C went out and it took two days for an "Engineer" to come up and say "it's gone, you need a new room" He called and said we need to move so we once again moved to our THIRD room next door in three days. The new room seemed to be slightly cleaner except for the bathroom. The bathrooms were always gross looking. We tried to make the best of it but it was hard with the nightly meals being so gross we had to resort to paying steep prices in the gift shop for chips and other snacks in order to eat something. After the 4th night we were ready to go home. I called delta to see what it would cost to change our flight to leave early and I really didn't want to fork out another $800-$1,000 to change flights. We made it one more day till we were just fed up with the place. MULTIPLE couples were complaining of the same things we had problems with and I finally went down to talk we some manager. I told him about our issues and he listened and I explained I really felt like I should be refunded our money for the $350 "upgrade" he said he would look into it. The only thing he really offered was a comp stay of a three night stay. I would never pay to travel back to that dump. I went back to my room and called delta again and explained our awful honeymoon and the sup waived all of our fees for us to go ahead and come home early. the next morning I spoke with the same manager who refused to refund our money back as we were leaving. I gave hime two options, refund the money or my bank will. He said it's not happening. I simply called my bank on the way to the airport and turned the charge in on fraud and got my money back. STAY AWAY FROM THE PLACE!!
This place was great! I went with my old office a couple years ago and it was very nice.
Definitely worth it to pay the extra for the all inclusive because it includes all meals and alcohol from the bars. The main restaurant was really good - if you don't have all inclusive the meals are outrageously priced though.
The beach at the hotel wasn't the greatest for getting in the water. If you just want to lay out though, it was really nice. There are about 100 stairs on the way down to the pool, but the hotel offered a shuttle service that would drive you down to it also.
The person before clearly did not research better ways to get around. There is a bus stop by the entrance to the parking lot and you can ride it into town for $1. It doesn't go everywhere on the island though.
The hotel is also close to Coki Beach which is my all time favorite beach. It is very nice, along with all the people that work there. If you go there you should try a Bushwhacker if you want a good alcholic drink.
I didn't meet a single rude person in St. Thomas at all, so I don't know what the other person was talking about on that either. If the cost of living wasn't so high here, I would move right now.
I booked my trip through Expedia, the room we booked was the Ocean view. When we get to the resort and to our room we have a room over looking the top of a building. We have half ocean half mountain and half roof top for our view. We paid WAY too much money so I go back and request a room with a actual ocean view, no buildings restricting this. At first we were told it would be $200 MORE a night to do this because the room we were in was supposedly an Ocean view and then they had "Premium Ocean View" rooms...whatever! I explained that the view Expedia shows and what we got are FAR from the same. She blames Expedia for out dated pictures or deceiving photos. She then says the price would be $50 a day, then talks to a manager and says they will "upgrade us to the premium" view room for no charge. Which I was going to be moved for free regardless. I feel this is a scam to get money from people who book through a travel agent. The food was just not good. Except for some potatoes one night, but it could have been from the drinks, but I digress. The food was the same everyday and every night. Breakfast- muffins were hard and NEVER fresh. The glasses for the OJ and apple juice were DIRTY. Gnats everywhere, you would reach for something and they would disperse like a black cloud a way from the food. This was both inside and outside. Dinner roles were hard as bricks. Had German Roaches in the the salad bar at the Pool Restaurant. I feel if you are going to have a buffet and plan to leave doors open, that you need to invest in some type of netting or covers for the food. We shouldn't have to dodge roaches while reaching for banana peppers, yes this happened!! The rooms were fine, didn't bring back any bed bugs, the bed was comfy . Roaches in the room the last morning, but Didn't tell anyone because I knew they didn't care. We cut our trip short a day because we were so discussed by the place. Cats, chickens and ducks everywhere! Stinky and dirty!! The drink mixes sat out in the heat and sun all day. I think those things need to be either put back into the coolers or at least on ice! They were never in either. So its no different than leaving the OJ out all day to spoil. The cups they used were flimsy little paper cups...keep in mind we spent almost 4K on this trip and cant even get decent cups. The beach and the pool were dirty. When I say dirty, the pool needed to be vacuumed, it was green with algae. There was just a dirty film to it. I got in it about 3 times. Mainly to sit at the pool bar. The beach was small and very rocky, but had a beautiful view and pretty water. But the chair covers were filthy!! Full of nasty stains. Now I get this is a beach, but where I come from in Gulf Shores or Orange beach Alabama, those covers are removed every ever noon and put up. Those covers never moved once during our stay. There were dirty plastic cups out all around the chairs and on the table, so you could tell no one kept the area up. Those things tell you a lot about a resort and their cleanliness and sanitation. The activities such as bumper boats, mini golf..etc were only available for limited times each day, so when it was time at 12 and you missed it because they end at 1230, then you are SOL. To me that was crap! Its basically because no one at the resort wants to either work or entertain. They all wanna walk around and talk among themselves. Which I get, I like to talk to, but not at the expense of THOUSANDS of dollars spend!! ENTERTAIN people!! Make it exciting and unforgettable. The staff overall was not very friendly. I can tell you exactly where the nice ones were because it was about 5 people. The ladies who worked the pool bar and the indoor pool bar were always super friendly and would cut up with the guest. The lady Bridgett who ran the SailBoat cruises and the kayaks was super friendly. Sherry and Guy in the hibachi restaurant and one of the girls at the front desk. That was it. needs a lot of improvements!!!! We will never return and will never suggest to anyone.
Came here by chance and stayed a few days. We originally booked somewhere else, but they have our room away.
Long story short, we know how the island work and were happy to get any room. Then comes the price gouging... Everything was super expensive and just mediocre.
To be completely fair, they were swapping out the tube TVs for flat screens as we were leaving. I'd return to the island, just probably not here.
We stayed here right after "Dreams" acquired Sugar Bay and they were still working on improvements. There were definitely still some kinks that needed to be worked out, but their level of service is one thing that can be improved and probably has since our visit. We're going back this coming January and I'll update this review on their service improvements after we're there.
The beach, while small, has plenty of snorkeling where you don't even need an excursion. They have masks/snorkels you can use for free but the gear isn't allowed to leave the resort.
The staff are very unfriendly and not willing to help with anything. They advertise many restaurants on site but close them at night only leaving one option making service at the restaurants terrible. We waited a long time on food and never got the correct drinks we ordered. The towels were not replaced daily. No water in fridge in room. Once during breakfast we were told we could not join another table together to seat us all. There was a family there causes fights on the property and had the law called several times so they completly shut the bar down early in the evening to tell us to go to our rooms. The two stars I am giving are for the bed that did sleep comfortable. This is not a resort we will revisit unless major changes are made.
We stayed at Sugar Bay during our honeymoon for a week. Overall the rooms were nice, there seems to be quite a bit of water damage in the rooms. The first room we stayed in had a leak but we were moved quickly to another room however, the second room we stayed in had a leak in the ceiling in the bathroom with mold. The resort is comfortable but could use some TLC. We didn't do the all inclusive package which we didn't regret, the food on the resort is horrible - hamburgers, fries, pizza....not what you want when you go to the virgin islands! There are several towns located close by that have amazing fresh seafood which we would recommend over the resort food. The customer service at the hotel was lacking we met a few nice helpful people there but overall people were quite rude. When we return to the Virgin Islands we will probably not return to Sugar Bay Resort. From what we were told off the resort Sugar Bay usually only has one time customers...
Just returned from this resort. The only positives I have are that the employees are friendly and try to help and that our room was clean. Food is terrible (other than the Himatsu restaurant where you have to have reservations and although the food was good there service was awful). The beach is very small and nothing but rock - if you want to get in the water you need shoes or you will hurt yourself. The resort needs ALOT of work. It has potential, but is not there yet - needs updating everywhere. Our room was clean but air conditioner did not work.
We had a great time because we left the resort in the morning and went to St John or Magen's bay every single day. GO to St Thomas/St John but do NOT book this resort.
I was worried due to the negative reviews before we went but also saw positive so was hopeful. Unfortunately the negative reviews were accurate.
beautiful and massive resort. you could have an entire vacation without leaving it. that being said, expect to pay a bit of a premium for that convenience.
We went to Sugar Bay Resort and Spa March 2013 for our honeymoon and it was a great experience. All inclusive is the way to go! The food and drinks are great! We did not meet one rude person that worked there, everyone was so nice and provided great service. They meet you with Rum Punch and it's amazing! We plan to go back!
Would have been a better review if we would have received our $300 in vouchers when we arrived. They gave us the vouchers two days before we left. I booked Sugar Bay because they offered the extra $300 in vouchers. Now, the vouchers are expired bc they are only valid for the week you are in St. Thomas. We kinda felt cheated a bit because we asked for them when we checked in and we were told they were not included with our check in package but they would let us know as soon as they got them. Well five days later, we happened to be in the front lobby grabbing some food and asked - and finally the vouchers were there. Additionally, there is a lot of confusion about where vouchers can be spent. The front desk lady explained they could not be used at the Sugar Bay Resort property, but SUgar Bay Resort Spa is listed on the sheet of businesses where one can use the vouchers. Room was nice, pool was great!!!
Very nice and friendly staff. Rooms are nice and clean. Only thing is you have to either walk or shuttle everywhere, this is a spread out large place Very beautiful and nice ,,, but if you have any mobility issues check with your travel agent or hotel on what room you stay in. Beach is 300 yards from rooms down 5 flights of stairs. Restaurants are spread out all over place , which is good Good has been great and service again excellent. Last night host that greeted us was extremely nice
If there was a -star to choose from, I'd choose it for sure! This was one of the worst vacations of my entire life. Let's start with the grounds, picture an abandoned motel, stray dogs in the pool, random people wondering around looking for something to do, WARNING and DANGER signs everywhere! I'm not exaggerating. All of this was at the hotel.
My friend booked the all inclusive package and thought we had a handful of places to dine for each meal...nope! One or two places, each with food I would not feed a stray dog. Wilted lettuce and mutton for lunch, frozen seafood and microwave meat for dinner. Resort smelled like an old ash tray, grounds tore up all over, walls unpainted and grounds totally unkept.
There was a warning on the back of the room door which said "Please check who is outside your door, before opening". WHAT?
Needless to say, I checked out after only one night. The kicker of the story is, when I approached the front desk to check out, mind you 8 days early, the clerk did not ask why or if there was something he could do to make our stay pleasant. He said "OK" and printed our final bill. Do I need to say more?
Stay away. Place needs lots of work still. All elevators still down and out from hurricanes. Parking is a mess because there isn't any. If you're unlucky to get a room ending in the 20s or 30s you're in for a hella walk from your car to your room. The room itself was updated, large and nice but there are no phones, no way to contact the front desk. Even the main phone line here doesn't work so you can't use your cell to call them. Front desk staff are completely indifferent and could care less. Room cleaning is variable and not thorough. Cable service to the rooms was down for 3 days and still not fixed at checkout. So we couldn't even watch TV in the room. Thank God wifi was reliable. This is no dream or honeymoon vacation spot. Hurricane damage is still very visible all over the property.
Highly recommended for friends, couples, families, or solo travelers. So safe, clean, fun, and incredible staff. Definitely recommend the all inclusive option!
This was by far one of the best places I've ever been. From the guy driving the bus, to the greeters, to hotel staff. Food, activities meeting others, great place. Would definitely visit this place again.
We went in what is considered the off season...first and second week of May. The resort wasn't all that busy, which was perfect for us, as we aren't into the packed out crowds sort of thing. The staff were great, we never wanted for anything!!! They were all so very friendly and polite as well, we were even met at the check in desk by a staff member offering us a painkiller drink, now that was a great way to start our honeymoon! Food was good, lots of different foods to try every day! The resort also has several different restaurants within it including both a Japanese and an Italian restaurant. They bartenders all know how to make killer drinks, but def have Manny at the swim-up bar make a banana mudslide and have any of them make you a Bushwhacker!! The views from our room were breathtaking, but there really isn't a bad view from the whole resort IMO!! Very clean resort, well kept for sure! The beach at the resort is great, just watch out for the occasional sea urchins...I recommend buying a pair of water shoes to wear or you might step on one and be in some serious pain!!! The water is Crystal clear as deep as you can go, so you can see the urchins but in case you forget to watch out it's nice to have the shoes on. Also rent some snorkel gear, the fish are all over the place and conch shells too!! The resort rents equipment out, but we brought our own...which is nicer equipment but theirs will work. They also had kayaks and paddle boards available to rent, mini golf, and bumper boats. We did the all inclusive package (which I recommend) so we could use any equipment or facilities and all meals/drinks were free. Never dropped a dime at the resort except on the occasional souvenir. We will definitely stay here again!!
One star is a nice rating. They don't even deserve 1 star. This hotel is a mess from customer service to the food they serve. The hotel needs a TON of TLC. The building looks as though it may fall at any second. The pool is green and has ducks floating in it randomly. The pool bar drinks are watered down. The food is mediocre at the very best. Our entire stay the electricity went off a good 6 times for at least 30-45 minutes each. You have to take a bus down to the pool unless you want to make the 100 step trek down yourself. After leaving this resort I got home and noticed that I hadn't escaped the Hell Hotel that I in fact had been a buffet to their BED BUGS! I am now itching everywhere and in misery due to 100s and 100s of bed bugs. I am thoroughly disgusted by everything about this place. I will never return. Do not waste your money. None of the managers care about customer service. Go somewhere else.
We were at Sugar Bar Resort and Spa for our honeymoon and we had an excellent time. I'm not sure why there are so many negative reviews as of lately but we had nothing but great service.
The staff was always nice and happy to help us out, we enjoyed drinks at the Ocean Club at night, while most nights they have entertainment. Everyday they have an itinerary that we found very useful. We enjoyed the movies they played each day/night.
The pool was great, always something to do and enjoy. Breakfast was great and dinner was great, only food that was "ok" was lunch and the Noodle Bar.
I would come here again, we stayed from July 1st- July 8th
It's a beautiful resort, however it is in between owners making everything super unorganized. Only 2 restaurants are open a night forcing you to go to the same place a few times. The food gave my boyfriend and I loose, multiple bowel movements and one night vomiting. No where to go to eat in between meals so you're screwed if you're hungry early. Staff was friendly except one lady behind the front desk. Asked her a question regarding a housekeeping issue, she looked at me picked up the phone and handed it to me so I could speak to them not saying one word to me. The best part of our vacation was when we left the resort. If this place even stays open, I highly recommend NOT going to this resort. We read both good and bad reviews but did not think it was going to be as bad as it turned out.
for the most part the staff was very nice only 1 or 2 were rude and all the others were the sweetest and most helpful people ever! the room was so nice and clean, the view was amazing. The food was so good the all inclusive is completely worth it! UNLIMITED FOOD AND DRINKS! the grill by the pool had such good burgers and hotdogs, the buffet always had tons of fresh fruit and amazing food! the pool area was so beautiful it really felt like i was in paradise! free boat rides and snorkel equipment etc. The private beach area looks kinda small in pictures but it's a good size and surprisingly is never over crowded, there's always open chairs. Such an amazing trip if i was to ever go back to st thomas i would absolutely stay here again! Wild iguanas and you can feed them fruit! such an amazing place to go!!
I spent a week here for my honeymoon. Not a bad place to stay but it is not as nice as it appears in the pictures. It's all inclusive so you get all your meals here but the food is terrible! The breakfast was acceptable.
It is a beautiful place to rest and enjoy the sea and the sun. In general the people here are very nice except for some like in Tofo instead, the food is good and the drinks too. The bar that is near the pool is attended by CLARIBEL, is the most pleasant person I have met in this place makes you feel really welcome, she is so sweet and kind and prepares the best drinks that I have tasted and gives you a good conversation and I can not forget about SARITA, she attends breakfast, she is super friendly and cheerful always trying to make you feel as comfortable as possible.
One disappointment after another. If you've ever been to a resort in Mexico, you will be horribly disappointed in Sugar Bay Resort and Spa. The service is awful, everyone moves at a snails pace, and the rooms are subpar. The food is decent, but on numerous occasions we sat down to dishes that hadn't been cleaned properly. When we arrived they didn't have the room we paid for so they put us in another until our room was ready. They gave us a room with one bed for two adults and two children. We asked for roller beds and it took over two hours for them to bring them. The next day our room still wasn't ready when it was supposed to be so they gave us what was supposed to be an upgrade. The only thing different about it was that it had two beds instead of one. The most disappointing resort I've ever stayed in.
We absolutely loved this place. Went there on our honeymoon and it was nice despite the old reviews. The staff is really friendly and helpful and the lady at the spa was great she did my hair for me even tho she doesn't usually do hair More
