We took our Bailey there on a Monday night. The staff was very friendly and so sweet to our very anxious boxer. She hurt her back leg and our vet's office was closed. The Vet that saw us was wonderful with our Bailey girl. She is terrified of any vet but she was relaxed with him and she loved the treats. He gave her an extremely thorough exam and told us he believed it was a sprain. He did not feel that it was necessary at this point to do an x-ray based on the exam. We appreciated his honesty as he could have done the x-rays and charged us more as other vet hospitals have done to us. This is our second visit there. Our first time was with our other boxer and they were just as wonderful! A great place to take your pets in time of emergency and very honest. Thank you !

Their staff made a financial error and expected me...

Their staff made a financial error and expected me to be responsible for it. I paid 75% of the low end ED estimate of ($1,100) which totaled $800 (which is their policy). I was told that my dog would need surgery or he may die. They handed me a separate estimate of $5,100-$5,700- I SPECIFICALLY ASKED IF THIS WAS A COMBINED ESTIMATE OF BOTH THE ED VISIT AND THE SURGERY. I was told that it WAS $and I would now need to put down 75% of the $5,100. That totals $3,200. They preceded to subtract what I had already put down for the ED deposit ($800) from the additional deposit I would need for the surgery ($3,200). So I put down the remaining $2,400. By doing this, it confirmed the expectation that my total cost would be close to $5,100. The same staff member even assisted me with the Pet Care Credit Card and advised me to "just take out $6,000 because our estimates are pretty close and you don't want to take out more than you need, because you may not get approved". They called me three days later stating that they had made a mistake made when the down deposit was collected and said that I would need to put further money down. This notification came after I was already at a total of $6,300 (approximately $600 dollars over the high end estimate). It took me by complete surprise. I thought, "why wouldn't they call sooner before my bill was over the estimate? And even more, what mistake did they make? I eventually figured out that the two estimates were suppose to be separate. What they should have was collect 75% of the $1,100 and 75% of the $5,100. That would have added up to a total deposit of $4,000. I picked up my dog the same day, and by that time, my bill was up to $6,900. $1,200 over the high end estimate! I did the reasonable thing and paid the high end estimate of $5,700 and left the remaining balance. I spoke to the administrator (Joseph) and recorded our phone conversation in which he stated- "one could have though that because the two estimates we're combined, rather than separated, that the total bill would have been in the $5,100-$5,700 range. We had further discussions regarding the possibilities of the mistake, one being "a honest mistake". He tried defending his staff by saying "so what you're telling me, is your refusing to pay because there may have been an honest mistake". He advised me that he would have to look into it and would get back to me. I have called several times since then and finally received a bill in the mail yesterday. The fact of the matter is the principle here. Their staff made a miscalculation. I should not be held accountable for that. I have written to the BBB and will keep everyone updated on the outcome.

Absolutely horrible experience I will never use this place ever again. They were rude, and super wishy washy with us. Spent 3 hours waiting..... wanted to charge 4500 dollars for surgery for my 6month old puppy that had something stuck in her small intestine. So we called Randolph and they got us right in for only 1500 dollars. Never again will I go to this horrible place. The vets just want money not to help people s animals.

My animal stayed for 1 day and it costed me $1200.00 for what. This company seems to rip people off. And then to be told it would cost me another $5000 for my animal to have surgery. Again great way to rip people off. Sham on your company. I would never recommend this vet ever. A's they will do nothing but try to over charge you and basically steal from your pockets.

Two hours sitting in a parking lot waiting for my Tucker to get his ear checked! Two weeks ago I waited in the parking lot for four hours and never was seen. Only to make the next appointment for Nov 25. His ear is so bad I had to bring him in today. Time to find a new vet! This is ridiculous! I have been a client here since 1998 and have spent a lot of money here between surgeries with different pets and well visits. To be treated like this is insulting!

I just want to say thank you to Orchard Park vet medical center. During the recent passing of my best friend, they were dedicated, compassionate and empathetic. All the staff members were amazing, but special attention to a Mary Nowicki and Alissa (social worker). Thank you so much for everything you did for my little pug and I.

I know this place gives A LOT of bad news. Unfortunately I am no different. I lost my kitty here a couple weeks ago. But I have to say that the staff was very caring, attentive, and made sure we knew exactly what was happening and what our options were. The service was expensive, but that comes with the territory. I fully appreciate the care they gave my girl in her final days.

Everyone on staff was incredibly helpful and got my cat better that day. She was bitten by a stray that caused an abscess 5 days later which I didn t know about or see on my cat until it burst and bled. I was given antibiotics and a pain med - cat is already eating again and feeling better - almost back to normal in 24 hrs but of course will need much longer to heal that abscess. I appreciated the hospital s quick action and kindness!

They allowed us to come in and be with him and decided to have him cremated they are the best place in my book. We went there for to other doggies that had passed away. I give them 10 high fives.

Feeling fortunate to have such a high-level vet emergency hospital in my area. They are extremely thorough, compassionate and have provided the best in emergency care for my rat terrier. He is going to survive a very scary situation thanks to the actions of the doctors and technicians at this location.

On August 31, 2020 my shorkie terrier, Jake had a bit of a cough. It had been 3 straight days so I decided it was time to see somebody. I called my vet, but they were booked up and told me I should seek an emergency vet if I felt Jake needed to be seen that day. I love that dog so I called the Orchard Park Veterinary Medical Center. They told me on the phone that if I got there right away there wouldn't be a wait so I took my son and Jake to the center right away. We got there around 11:30AM and sat in our car playing until around 2 - 2:30. Jake was jumping around the car, getting out for walks, trying to smell the other animals out of the window. Long story short, he was alert and active. After sitting in my car for over 3 hours, I decided it probably wasn't worth it to keep waiting and I could just take a different appointment with Jakes vet. I went to tell the girls up front that we were leaving. As I spoke, immediately the one girl said I think Jake is next. Can you wait 5 more minutes. I should have went with my instinct but instead i waited. Fifteen minutes later, a tech came to the car to get Jake. Still active, I explained to her that he had a cough and asked to have a couple other things looked at while he was in there, mainly a problem near his butt that he had been picking at lately. After a half hour, one of the "vets" called me and said that Jake was going to be ok. Just some meds and make an appt with Jakes vet. I asked about the butt issue and she said she wasn't notified about it and to let her take a look. 15 minutes later, she called me back and said that Jake has an absessed right anal gland and an impacted left anal gland. I don't know what happened inside that building at that time but I was given back a pup that was nothing like the one that went in. We filled all Jakes meds, and stuck to what we were told to do but within a week we were in and out of Jakes vet keeping him on oxygen and hoping for the best as he was suffering from heart failure. ONE WEEK to the day after I took my pup with a small cough to this horrible place he passed away. I beg of you, If you love your pet the way that I loved Jake, DO NOT bring them here !! They want the money, and nothing else. They work fast to get your dog out of there and pay no attention to details. Details such as if you were going to do something tramatic to my pup to call me. Jake was a funny dog when it came to having people do things to him and I should have been in there with him. Instead they did something terrible and whatever it was cost me my best friend.

If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. Our poor dog had to wait 1.5 hours in the parking lot before we finally just gave up. Be mindful that we are patient people and are understanding that immediate emergencies are high priority. HOWEVER, waiting for an hour and a half and not hearing ANYTHING from ANYONE is ridiculous. After calling and waiting on hold for a half hour (for the second time), I was told that two emergencies came in and it will probably be 2-3 additional hours before we will be seen, treated and back in our care. The take away from this: unless your dog is dying, make an appointment with your vet, because chances are the dog will die of old age anyway waiting at Orchard Park Vet (but hey, at least that will be considered an emergency at that point!).

So, we went to visit our dog Jeapie while he is there for treatment/surgery for liver disease. We were referred to OP by our vet. Jeap was dropped off there on Sunday evening. Today was our first visit cause we felt we didn't want to bug anyone there trying to do their job nor get Jeap over excited and get him all wound up for the staff. So we went unannounced to visit him (as we were earlier informed visiting hours are from 10am-10pm daily) and I brought him a blankie for his cage and one of his favorite toys that wasn't too overly grossed out lol. WOW, what a surprise I must say. First of all the place is a IMMACULATE! As per my comfy blanket, didn't even need it as they already had a really awesome blankie in with him. They even had what looked like lamp heaters on dogs maybe for if they were chilly. You could eat off the floor in the cage Jeap was in along with all the other cages. There were other customers sitting in chairs while holding their dogs that were there too. It was AMAZING. I was totally BLOWN AWAY! No matter Jeaps outcome I can say full heartedly that OP is doing everything above and beyond their call of duty to each and every dog that was their for treatment. The place (and all its people) is truely amazing, clean, organized, professional and courteous! I cannot say enough good things and I can't help but try to spread the word to as many people and places that I can.

My vet sent me over with my cat's record which the vet didn't read did a bunch of irrelevant tests before finally bothering to read the chart and tell me they had more important surgeries and to schedule with my vet on Monday. I could have saved a few hundred dollars if she could have bothered to read the referral and chart.

A few weeks ago, we had to bring our beloved 12 year old dog Madden in on an emergency. We saw Dr. Emily Rabener. We always see Dr. Rabener for our cats, but she has never seen our dog before as he was an established patient at another hospital. We were afraid that the news would not be good as our vet suspected cancer. Dr. Rabener ran some tests and confirmed our worse fear, that it was definitely cancer, that it would just get worse and he was struggling. Without us having to ask, she said "if you're wondering if it's too soon to say good bye, it's not". I cannot tell you the compassion that she showed. She let us sit with him and we had a family member bring us cheeseburgers to give him as his final meal. She and the tech explained the process and what to expect. We appreciated being fully informed in order to make that heartbreaking decision. They were wonderful, even letting us stay for quite some time afterwards to say good bye. A week later, we received a beautiful card from Dr.Rabener. We were so touched that someone as busy as she is, took the time to do that! Orchard Park now has life-long clients as long as Dr. Rabener is on staff!
What I am discouraged about was when it came time a few days later to pick up our dogs remains, I stood at the counter listening to the receptionist try to pack our dogs box into a paper shopping bag. This upset me because I felt it cheapened the experience. Like she was packing my groceries. Had she asked if I wanted him in a bag, I would have declined. Please rethink this process. I'm sure I'm not the only person who has gotten upset about this. Other then this experience, I am so thankful for the way we were treated, it made it a little easier to say good bye to our fur-baby.

Drove two hours, say for two hours in my car while my dog almost had heatstroke on top of already being ill. Next day I drive two hours to get here to pick her up and so far waiting almost two hours for them to bring the dog out to me. I have no AC, nothing to drink and cannot leave the parking lot. This is beyond ridiculous. People picking up meds wait maybe 10 minutes. Don't ever go here, they don't care.

Do not take your animal to this facility!

Do not take your animal to this facility!
Before taking our dog to this facility I did read the reviews online and I was skeptical. I decided to trust my vet who recommended them. We already had a diagnosis from my vet but for some reason we were advised to get a second opinion from The Orchard Park Animal Hospital. We were met with a robotic monotone doctor. The explanation of what was wrong with our dog was all medical terms and spoken with no emotion or concern for the audience. The doctor then suggested we do a test to determine if our dog's illness was a certain type. We agreed. After waiting for over half an hour in the exam room, the doctor came back without the results. The doctor stated that they would have to run another test if we wanted the results. I felt very taken advantage of. I feel this facility is a factory. There was no care or concern whatsoever. We were definitely duped. It seems to be a money-making grab. I walked out of there with no new information than what I had from my original vet. We put our dog through unnecessary stress and tests. Not to mention the over-inflated cost. I would recommend you do your homework and find a good vet. I would never recommend this place nor will I ever step foot in this facility again.

Couldn't possibly tell you how wonderful the staff was there. From the loving patience of the front desk people, to the super sweet vet techs and the simply loving and caring vet - Dr. Rabener. Very impressed with everything and everyone there. Would very highly recommend to anyone who needs emergency care as we did or any service from them.

After giving those folks thousands of dollars and still losing both my babies you would think they would have the decency to correct an error that they made!!!! I lost my first dog in November 2018. Chubbie spent 4 days here at $1,500 each night! He wasn't getting any better and was so miserable. Unfortunately, I had to make the difficult decision. One week later I almost lost his brother Spanky. They had never been separated. For the past 6 months I did all I could to save him but after many hospital visits, hand feedings and syringe hydration I lost him to kidney failure. Both my boys are gone and I'm devastated!!!!

3 weeks ago when I received Spanky's ashes back I sat both Chubbie and Spanky's ashes side by side to put them back together again. That's when I noticed that Orchard Park Medical Center GAVE ME SOME OTHER DOG'S ASHES!!!! I have contacted them numerous times and all they can say is that no other person has returned ashes or reported that they have the wrong ashes so they can't help me.

If your dog was cremated recently and your last name is 'STOJ' and you went through Orchard Park Medical Center to do it, will you please check the name on your box and see if it's my dog? ALL I WANT ARE CHUBBIES ASHES!!! I'M GRIEVING AND I CAN'T PROPERLY GRIEVE BECAUSE OF THIS GROSS ERROR!!!

I will be contacting every news outlet to help me find my baby's ashes!!!

Thanks a lot for all your help Orchard Park Medical Center!!! NOT!!!

Update 6/12/2019 - I wrote this review a while ago and not even a note from the owner saying sorry for my loss???? WOW!!! I can only garner a guess as to why no response from these folks! FIX YOUR GROSS ERROR PEOPLE! I've given you several months already!!!

There are very few vets in the western NY area who have experience caring for rabbits, so when my bunny became ill on a Sunday night, I was worried not only if I could find an open clinic, but also if that clinic would have the means to help her. The entire staff at orchard park was wonderful, both in terms of helping my rabbit (who made a full recovery btw), but also in caring for my family. Cherry is a beloved family pet, and we arrived with the whole family. The front desk staff were incredibly kind, even offering to open the closed part of the waiting room so that my son could watch Disney movies while the vet took care of his pet.

BEWARE!!! Pet owners (especially cat owners) DO NOT EVER go to the Emergency Veterinary Clinic located on Genesee street in Buffalo! I recently rescued a stray now named Cleo and noticed her breathing was super rapid after a week of having her. I took her to the Emergency Vet on Genesee and within 20 minutes they diagnosed her with FIP, she has no chance, except the option to take her to Cornell which is expensive and a drive for people and asked if I wanted her to be in euthanized. Baffled I called Brandon for his opinion and he said to bring her home. I called the vet back and told them this and the response I got was literally Well do you have a plan? Because she s going to die. I do not understand how someone who s CAREER is to work with animals can be so vile. It only took them 20 minutes to diagnose and charged me $300 to basically tell me my cat is going to die. I took her to Orchard Park Veterinary Medical Center where she got extensive testing and care and was diagnosed with Chylothroax and is obviously going to live. I cannot believe the misdiagnosis and for the push to have my kitten euthanized. The emergency vet on Genesee Street is nothing but money grabbers and euthanizing pushers. And to the specific vet who I talked to, your license should be REVOKED!!!!!!!
I am so thankful for everyone who works at Orchard Park Veterinary Medical Center! They answered every question I had and were so nice and you can tell they actually have a love for animals and the job they do. And most importantly, don t misdiagnose your pet!!!!

In times of crisis, one would think everyone would be a team player to help out. My vet called to see if they had my cat's food in stock(my vet is out and manufacturer is) and they were told they had 1 bag left and would save it for me. I drove from Tonawanda to Orchard Park right away, and when getting there staff indicated that no one called and they were not sure what I was talking about. And told me that they don't provide food to people who are not clients. My vet called back and they changed their answer to "no". I drove all that way for no food. Not helpful at all.

This is my 2nd time bringing animals here. Both times were awful, both times my dogs were euthanized. The vet was very business like as I was hearing my dog was in heart failure his concern was all about the money. He spoke like a robot.

I felt no compassion, no sorrow, as I was in the rainbow room saying goodbye to my dog, two techs came in carrying saline and needles and acted impatient. My daughter had to ask them to leave. This place needs a check in being human and compassionate because it is sorely lacking.

They don t care about your babies they just want to overcharge so they can get paid! We don t live in OP but we ve brought her here twice while visiting family. It s extremely overpriced and the last time we went it felt like the woman doctor was trying to sell us everything and baiting us so we could be charged more. As soon as we denied the extra unnecessary work, her demeanor completely changed from peppy and nice to rude. She just walked right out. We explained that it wasn t necessary because we were just visiting and preferred to confer with our regular vet but it seems like she didn t care. If you re going to be a veterinarian, you shouldn t be a salesperson! It s cheaper to go to my own doctor for a check up than it is to take my pup to OP Vet! And to make things worst, it s not even a nice office, it looks like a laboratory. So ugly!

These people are caring and loving. There isn't anywhere else locally that can run all of the tests and scans necessary to diagnose the issues they see. Yes they are expensive but they do everything they can to produce a positive outcome. They saved our German Shepard last year diagnosing a very rare but treatable condition and are currently working with us to help our beagle mix. We're hoping for a full recovery but if it doesn't happen it won't be for lack of trying on their part.

We had to bring our beloved Julie cat to this office, due to the fact that it was after hours for our vet on a Saturday. It was a very hard night for us we had to say good bye to her only after 10 years . They did all they could and went over every option available and what the outcomes would be moving forward with them. The compassion and understanding of everyone in the office was exceptional. Thank you for making one of the hardest things to go through with a pet easier to deal with.

I have a nine year old Rottie, who has been sick most of his life, addisons, mass cell cancer, infections, If it were not for OPVMC my boy would have been gone a long time ago. They are a 24 hour 7 days a week,365 days a year center, several of my dogs illnesses happened during the night, on weekends and holidays, when my vet was not available. Not once did I ever have a bad experience with them. They are always compassionate and helpful, they give me options as to what needs to be done and what might be able to wait. Dr. Minnier-Thomas is an angel, she treats my dog as if he was her own. The whole staff at OPVMC has shown me nothing but kindness and care when I bring my "boy" there. I especially appreciate that you can visit your pet while in the hospital from 10am to 10pm, with no problem. A special thanks to Dr. Rickwald, Dr. Reiller and Dr. Brummer who has also contributed to his care and to Dawn who "SPOILS" him while he's there when I can not be.

As OPVMC felt the need to respond to my review with a finger pointing back to me for the loss of my pet, I must too respond.....I am not disputing the fact that an ultrasound was indeed mentioned by Amioka, but never did she stress that it was necessary. O.k.? There's a difference. She left it entirely up to us to decide whether we wanted to take the next step, which was an ultrasound. Additionally, she never indicated his liver enzymes were high (which is in complete contradiction to the outside veterinarian who read your blood work and determined that it was). Now, why would we want to get charged $600 for an ultrasound when Amioka didn't see it as a necessity, nor did she think his levels were high???

Furthermore, we did not "opt to try a change in diet". As explained to Amioka, a change in diet is what we thought prompted the drop in his weight, in addition to the lethargy, which is why we brought him in in the first place! Clearly, she doesn't pay attention either. Again, beware of Amioka. That is all.

Our cat presents a severe, complex case (Is it FIP? Is it a brain tumor? Who knows), and needed immediate emergency attention, as we thought she was going to pass at any moment. The facility was modern, clean and very attractive. It was also empty, and we were ushered into a room immediately. The vet tech was super sweet--very personable and compassionate. The vet was also extremely kind, compassionate, and most importantly, knowledgeable. My GF and I really appreciated that at no time did we feel like we were being given a sales pitch from any of the staff, or pressured into anything. Our last experience at a different facility in Williamsville was exactly that: a cold sales pitch from beginning to end, with no compassion. Our experience at OPVM was the antithesis of our last experience. We will never go anywhere else for a pet's emergency care.

My cat has had stones in the past obstructing his urethra. At our regular vet, we are charged approx $350 to have him catherized and the stones flushed with an overnight stay. the stones came back and I took him to OP on a Sunday at 1:30am. the amount quoted with an overnight till Monday (when our vet was open) was $1400. Because my cat could not pee and his bladder could rupture and he could die, there was no choice but to accept that it could cost that much. The Dr on call did not feel confident that she could flush the stones and suggested that I have a perineal urethrostomy done. cost? 2500-5000. when I said I didn't have that much money I was told that I should make a decision on whether I was going to opt for the surgery or euthanize my cat because if she got in there and couldn't move the stones, those were my only choices. This was said to me several times and it was anguishing. I thank God for the procedure to pass the stones to the bladder worked. We transferred our cat to our vet and they only charged us a small fraction of what OP quoted. The whole time the Dr was condescending and made me feel as if I didn't care about my cat. Disgusting and shameful. This organization thrives on other's misfortunes. I will say that the Dr that took over my cat's case was at least a little sympathetic She got the price down, but it was still 3 times what it should have been and the billing department overcharged us and argued that they didn't until I questioned it again and they had finance look at it. on the top of my list for worst experiences of my life.

Brought a stray cat we've adopted in for initial exam and vaccines. Dr. Minnier and the staff were genuinely compassionate and thorough. Tabitha was struggling considerably when they had to take blood for her tests, but the 3 techs were able to gently handle her and calm her down quickly. The staff always makes us feel at ease, explains everything we need to know, and answers all our questions very thoroughly.

We see doctor Zawadzki and absolutely adore her but on occasion we've had to see different veterinarians over the last nine years and our pets have always been in great hands. Dr Fingeroth has preformed several TTAs on my dog and he is an outstanding surgeon. The staff has always been kind and compassionate. They treat my pets as if it was their own. I ve referred many friends and family members to this veterinary hospital and they have also had great experiences. I love that they offer 24/7 care in case of emergencies.

I would recommend Orchard Park to anyone who is looking for reproduction advice. They were great!!!

Given the Covid-19 rules, we did what we were told. Drove up at about 6:00pm, called to say we were there and then waited for someone to come out and get her. We waited in the parking lot for 45 minutes while our poor little girl seized in the back seat of our car. By the time she actually got inside, she was nearly gone. By 4:30am, she was dead. I have to wonder if she had been taken straight in, she might have had a chance. She was only five years old. When we went in to say our goodbyes to her after she had died, they asked if we wanted footprints . I said yes. I picked up her cremains 12 days later. When I got home and opened the bag, there were no footprints. I spent the next week calling them to find out where they were. I was passed off too many times to count. I was told they would arrive in the mail with a condolence card and it must be a problem with the postal service. She died on July 14th. On the 29th, I received a card with some random footprints. The post mark was the 27th. I have a hard time believing these are actually her prints. Also, they never sent her death records to my own vet until I called and insisted they do. All of this said, the fact is, she s dead. I m not placing blame, but seriously questioning the care we didn t receive. Thousands of dollars were billed to us. All of this has made our grieving process that much harder. I would have a very difficult time recommending this practice to anyone.

I brought my shih tzu there and they said it was possibly a seizure. Cost 500 went back again and then went again because I thought he had a hurt leg. They thought my dog had another seizure they wanted me to pay 2800 I said I didn't have that, so they bought my dog back to me crying and having tremors. After a call from my screamin mother and me and 800$ later they finally agreed to keep him over night and give him IV's and anti seizure medication. They pray on the scared

We brought our 7 year old cat, Milo in the emergency side for what we thought was a cold virus. Sadly, it turned out to be a worst case scenario. The staff was compassionate and the vet direct and thoughtful in answering my questions. It was heartbreaking for our family and we really appreciated how everyone handled Milo and us.

I adopted a 3 month old kitten recently who became very ill. I took her to a different vet and she was getting worse after given medication. I was very nervous and decided to call Orchard Park Veterinary Medical Center on a Saturday. The saw us asap and we met Dr. Rickwald who had an immediate diagnosis. He prescribed my kitten with the proper medication and she was a whole new kitty the next day. We are very thankful for Dr. Rickwald and I would recommend anyone to trust their beloved pets with him. Thank you so much!

I love the vets here. I switched to this vet after having several bad experiences with another vet in Orchard Park and I ve been very happy. It s great to know that they have the ability to do everything on site, whereas most vets have to refer patients here for many services. Having a senior dog who needs increasing amounts of care, it s nice to have a great staff who always take good care of all my pets and answer all my questions. Thanks, team!

Well lets see if this gets deleted or if someone actually responds:
I would give this Veterinary Medical Center one star because of the very nice and attentive staff in the front.
Besides that it was one of the worst experiences my family has had in a long time. There was a very questionable vet (Mary Songster) who told my little sister that her cat had thrown a blood clot in his leg and the best route was to put him down. This was after she OBSERVED him. No tests were done that night. Everything she said was based on her "observations." She said "we can manage him for a little bit but he's going to be in a lot of pain. You should seriously consider putting him down." We took him for a second opinon and they ran two very basic tests to check his enzymes. And....IT WAS A SOFT TISSUE INJURUY!
At the very least this person should not be able to do this to anyone else's family! Thank God we didn't listen to her that night! We would be missing a member of our family.
Something that struck me as a GIANT red flag: she was making jokes, imitating cats and was very jovial while all of us were crying...This "Doctor" should not be able to "help" anyone elses pet. PLEASE BEWARE OF DR. MARY SONGSTER SHE ALMOST KILLED OUR CAT WITH ABSOLUTELY NO EVIDENCE TO BACK IT UP!

If you want to save your family members, don't go to this hospital! My cat left us forever and died in this hospital! My cat had a slight anorexia and has been diagnosed with mild fatty liver in another hospital. We were recommended here because we ve been told they have specialists here. After the doctor gave my cat a very complete and expensive examination, he was diagnosed. They put a feeding tube on my cat, and my cat got worse after the surgery. The doctor gave him a painkiller that would cause a bad fever (this was in their report), which caused a high fever and inflammation. In the early morning of the second day in hospital we were told that my cat had fainted and had left us forever. The day after the cat died, they had no peace of mind and kept calling us with additional bills ($5,000 over the course of a week). People here have no feelings, they are very money hungry! They do not know the importance of a small animal to a family! Most importantly, you spend money and your kids won't come back! Again, if you want to save your baby, don't come!

I had to take my dog there last night and they were swamped. I was told it could be a two or three hour wait. My dog is diabetic and had not eaten since her breakfast meal. It was now almost 7 pm. When they were told, they rushed her right in and tested her glucose so I could feed her and give her insulin. The doctor called and explained everything in detail of what could be wrong. The prices were told to me ahead of time before they did anything. The type of care my dog was given goes a long way. I live almost two hours away and will continue to go there for my dogs care.

On Memorial day morning our little kitten jumped to the floor during playtime and hurt his rear leg..we called the spca where we adopted him a week ago and they advised us to call orchard park veterinary center...we called them and they told us to come down but to expect a visit exam for about 122.00 dollars. My wife was pretty upset so we went right over. Well to make a long story short , we ended up with a bill for almost 400.00 dollars only to be told it had a sprain...we were relieved for that but after we got home , I thought the vets bill was excessive. PS ,after getting home and doing a little research ,I found that kitty sprains are fairly common....

I have only had one encounter with this veterinary...

I have only had one encounter with this veterinary establishment which was after hours , and unfortunately it was not good. In fairness the positives first:

very friendly staff at check in
very clean waiting area
professional looking location

Now for my situation. My dog consumed gum containing xylitol from the kids Christmas stockings. Dr. Google indicated that xylitol can be fatal to dogs. So off I went as it was after hours. I explained to the vet what had happened and provided details about what kind of gum and approximately how many sticks were consumed. The Doctor then provided me a photocopy of a card which contained a phone number for pet poison control. She asked me to call the number. She then left the room. I called the number and then was told I would have to pay 59.00 to speak with a vet. I felt this was odd as I was with a vet and had already been informed the fee would be about 200.00 dollars for this visit. I just didn't understand why I would have to call a vet if I was already at the vets but I continued with the call. I paid the fee over the phone and was advised the following: the type of gum my dog consumed is sub toxic. I was told that even if my dog consumed the entire pack that the amount of Xylitol in the gum was sub toxic and that a trip to the vet was not necessary. They suggested I monitor the dog and should any significant changes occur return to the vet. So I was relieved. The vet induced vomiting which I was fine with and then things got very car salesman like. The vet asked for my case number generated by my phonecall to pet poison control. She left the room and went to a private area and she stated she was going to contact them directly. She returned after what I assume was a conversation and told me the following: the amount of gum my dog consumed is right on the line for being toxic. We were under the belief that she had seven sticks of gum but she(the vet) was told that the eight stick of gum mark was the toxic point. She suggested that the dog stay overnight. I actually repeated what she told me and asked her how the poison control vet was able to figure out the algorithm that determine seven sticks of gum was okay but eight sticks of gum given my dog's weight put her into toxicity. I then asked her if she spoke to the same woman that I spoke with because the diagnosis I was provided with completely different. This seemed to really throw her off and I truly believe that she was not being truthful with me regarding the conversation she had over the phone. The entire encounter made me feel like that the vet was working on a commission and was finding any reason to have my dog stay overnight. To add to the oddness of the evening I was never returned the piece of paper that had my case number or the phone number that I called to pet poison control. I can't help but wonder if I was an elderly person or somebody that was unable to read through the untruthfulness how much money this trip could have cost them. It's a very big building with lots of Staff after hours and I can't help but wonder if there's a commission incentive . I really hope not . I apologize if this is a long post just I've never given a negative review before. The most important part of this is that yes my dog is fine.

We had a bad luck of dealing with a very ignorant doctor who did not even listen to us and tried to get as much money from us as possible.

We were referred from our clinic to this Orchard Park animal hospital to perform some emergency procedure for our cat. We were promised that they can do it for us and we needed to bring her right away. We did. The doctor told us that actually they can do the procedure tomorrow and we need to leave our cat overnight with the hospital monitoring. Which is...$1800-$2000. The doctor was very rude, interrupted me everytime when I tried to ask a question and did not give any other options. They were other things, that I found insulting.
Overall experience was bad, waste of time and money. I'm sure there might be other doctors who actually care.. But the one we had was terrible. He needs to work in a morgue, not in a hospital with alive animals and people.

First, let me give the positive - the technicians ...

First, let me give the positive - the technicians here truly care about the animals they work with. They never left my puppy's side while he was there and I could tell they were heartbroken by his situation.
Other than that, I do not have a lot good to say about our experience.
My 13 week old (8 lb) puppy, Apollo, was attacked by another dog (40 lb large breed). I brought him to my vet, just before closing. She did an xray and showed us the abdominal wall that was torn and sent us to OPVMC for monitoring and/or emergency medical attention as needed.
We arrived there at approx. 6:30 and were brought into a room. My friend showed the tech the puppy's grey gums who immediately went to get the vet, Dr. Hong. She took the xrays that my vet sent, reviewed them and said she didn't like them so wanted to do her own. After coming back she said that she did not feel that the wall was torn, that there were two bruises on the belly in the area of the area that showed issue and she felt it was a hematoma. She then wanted to do blood work.
We asked about an ultrasound and were met with, "there is no one here to do that". When she returned she informed us that even though she doesn't know how to do ultrasound, she knows what to look for and she "looked" but didn't see anything and suggested we leave him for monitoring over night because he acted "painful".
We left at 9:00PM and I called at 7:00 AM to check on him. He had remained stable overnight. At 9:30 I recieved a call from another vet that his situation had changed and they thought he may have neurologic damage. When I got there at 10:30, they told me he had no blood count, wasn't able to keep his blood glucose up and his BP was very low and his liver enzymes were off and they were worried about his "depressed state" and how "painful" he was.
Dr. Hong went to a consult meeting and after informed me, around 11:30 that she felt he had Parvo, due to his quick "depression" and lethargy and that his blood counts were so bad and that this was just an "unfortunate coincidence" when combined with the attack.
After going back and forth for over another hour, she came to me to discuss what steps to take next. More blood test, more monitoring, did I want heroic measures. Like the night before, I asked if they had done an ultrasound and she said that was an option, but it was "expensive". I told her to do it because it was the only way to see what was going on (I still have NO IDEA WHY they didn't do this from the beginning! 8 lb puppy attacked by 40 lb dog sustaining bite marks to the abdomen. I could see the damaged to the abdominal wall on the xray, but she dismissed it)
She returned to the room after the ultrasound with a syringe full of blood to tell me that his abdomen was filled with blood and bacteria and that he likely had ruptured his intenstine due to the attack. His only hope was to do a $6000 exploratory surgery which would likely end up in an intestinal resection that may or may not work because of the extensive internal damages to his body. And, since his BP and blood counts were almost non-existant, he would likely not survive.
In the end, we decided that it was best for our little baby to be let go and not put him through any more trauma. While I cannot guarantee that the outcome would have been different, I cannot help but think if she had not dismissed my experienced vet's diagnosis, done a full ultrasound up front and not started looking for other reasons - besides the giant bite marks on his belly - for his issues, he may have been able to be saved.
We lost a 13 week old puppy because the Dr. Hong did not look at the full facts presented to her, ignored another vets diagnosis and took forever to do the test we asked about upon arrival.
While they have the technology and capabilities to help animals and the tech staff is caring and excellent, I question the quality of the veterinary staff that is working here.

We brought our dog in after some urination issues that we felt could not wait until the next day. We were admitted to a room quickly. We ended up waiting a while to see the vet, but that is the nature of the beast in this sort of work. Our dog was full of energy and feeling generally fine, so I absolutely understand when there are other animals requiring life or death treatment that we may have to wait a while. Once we did see our vet she was courteous and explained her thoughts as she was running through her diagnosis. She did not try to push us to get any extra tests that she did not feel were necessary, and was able to identity the aliment and get us the needed medication. It was a long night, but the team at Orchard Park Veterinary Center were very welcoming and understanding.

The techs and vet were gentle and kind. They tended to our dogs needs during an emergency room visit. However, at the end of visit they were more focused on handing me the bill with no discharge information. The bill included an antiobiotic and mild pain reliever which I had to ask for because they did not give it to us. We were sent home with zero instructions for wound care, no instructions for follow up with our vet, nothing. Thankful for the care, but disappointed in the focus on bill more than discharge instructions.

This place is beautiful on the surface. My dog s vet sent her there for specialty surgery. The surgeon told me they would need to keep her 4-5 days to closely observe and monitor her blood calcium level. I told him she would be scared in a kennel (3 solid metal sides and open bars in the front), she is blind.
Surgery went well, and I feel she received top of the line care in that regard, but her post-surgical care was a nightmare.
The next day, she seemed ok, it d been a nice day outside. The following day, my car showed 86 degrees when I arrived. Got my escort back to her, and nothing was fine. The room she was in looked like a former storage room, no air conditioning, no window, no sink, and no way to call for help. At most 2 other dogs were in that room, only one at this point. I m guessing they barked so were put in the bad dog prison. There had to be other animals there, but I never heard a bark, or techs talking so the other dogs must ve been comfortably housed in a distant location. There was a fan on the wall that didn t hit her. She was standing with her face close to one kennel wall, trembling, panting very harshly and intensely. Her muscles were twitching and her eyes were half open and red. The tech that escorted me to her said I took her outside half an hour ago, like she d done all she could do. I asked about cooling pads, never heard of them. I drove home as fast as I could, got her cooling pad, dish cloths, and ice cubes. When I arrived I couldn t get an escort back for just under a half hour. I told reception my dog was in distress and needed what I had. She actually rolled her eyes and didn t bother to ask for escort again. I was fuming. Finally someone came (other people were taken back before me) and took me back. I was appalled. Not one little thing was done to help my dog, I admit I gave the tech hell. Aggie (my dog) was in an upper kennel, I moved her to a lower. The tech actually got a fan and put it on her, She literally crawled onto the cooling mat, and I sat on the floor with her for at least a half hour wiping her with cool cloths. When she was cooled enough she became restless, so I put her on the floor. She couldn t walk, muscles still twitching. I thought ok this must be the blood calcium level is off. I looked for help, no one came near for 25 minutes. I finally saw a tech walking by who said she d go ask about help for Aggie, but never returned. This happened 3 different times with 3 different techs with wide gaps of time between, Finally, I caught a couple of them. Asked for the doctor to be called now.
I feel terrible I left her there that night. I took her home the next day. Her calcium had dropped (go figure) and I ve had to take her back there for bloodwork which I hate doing-taking her back in there and the cost is $50 more each time than Aggie s normal vet charges.
I do feel her surgery was top notch, but to be charged a large amount of money (to me) for care she did not receive and the horrible lack of treatment she did receive is disgusting. She absolutely was not closely observed and monitored, and the techs didn t even recognize my dog was in distress! Nor did they know what to do, so did nothing. There are more issues I won t bother writing here.
I think OPVMC should be ashamed, and that awful room turned back into a closet.

*The administrator called me a short time ago. He seemed surprised and at least a bit non-believing. I ll post any follow up if I get any.

I've come here a few times for emergency visits and every experience has been wonderful. My cat is currently in the ICU and the staff are absolutely amazing, super patient and caring. I will agree that it is super expensive, but this vet has been one of the only few I trust at this point and they have diagnosed him with chronic constipation, not only diagnosed but prescribed medication to manage my cats heart murmur (which my primary vet didn't want to manage with medication at all) and now caring for my fur baby in the ICU. They call with updates and they aren't judgemental that I want to sit with him for 12 hours. No amount of money can comfort you through a hard time, especially when it includes your fur baby, but this facility is worth the investment.

I 100% suggest going here. In 9 years of back and forth with primary vets and emergency vets, this is my go-to every time something happens after hours and with emergencies

Edit to reply to response from owner - I have spoken to the administrator already and he stopped calling me back. If he wants to further discuss my concerns I am more than willing to answer his call.

Misdiagnosis resulted in unnecessary surgery (possibly twice!).

Our dog has a history of eating rocks. Try as we might (basket muzzle, removing rocks from the yard, etc...) he's managed to have 4 get stuck that required surgery. On the most recent one, he presented with all of the typical signs so we brought him to our normal vet. They completed an exam and x-ray and said that it looked like a chunk of concrete was in his stomach. Without the equipment to deal with that, they referred us to OP. Once we got to OP, they disagreed with our vet's conclusion and did another x-ray and an ultrasound and said that the object was "definitely not in the stomach or small intestine" and "appeared to be in his large intestine or possibly entering his colon". They suggested that we monitor him and hope for the object to pass naturally. X-rays for the first 24 hours or so showed it moving but then it stopped so after some back and forth he underwent exploratory surgery about 48 hours after arriving at the Orchard Park Vet. It turns out the the chunk of concrete was in his duodenum (beginning of the small intestine), just past the stomach! Seems like it was in the stomach after all and the movement that we saw in the first 24 hours was it moving into the small intestine and getting stuck.

As I mentioned before, this is our 4th time - his 1st surgery was almost identical ("looks like it's in the colon", wait for it to pass, days later surgery removes it from the duodenum). With the benefit of that history you'd think we would have done an endoscopy to remove it from the stomach, even when imaging shows that it "definitely" isn't there. I brought this all up with their administration and felt that I was barely being listened to. He rushed me off of the phone and ensured me that "he was looking into it". Subsequent phone calls were with someone else and it seemed like the entire purpose of those conversations were to deflect blame and avoid admitting any type of mistake. Either my dog managed to get a rock to move backwards from his colon all the way back into his duodenum or they were wrong, but they refused to admit it and eventually stopped calling me back.

Unfortunately our options are limited in this area for 24 hour emergency vet care, but I would urge you go look elsewhere. At least our dog managed to make it through each of his surgeries and recover to be healthy and happy! He will now wear his basket muzzle any time he isn't inside the walls of our house.

They don't have enough vet dr.'s to spend more time with patients. They need more of them during the wee hours of the night. Don't take your precious pets here if you want to save them. All they care about is money. I told them money was not an issue . If they would have spent more time and would have been willing to do surgery for his heart tumor he would have been with me longer. Even if it would have been only a few months more it would have meant the world to me. Dr. Melissa W a j d a robbed me of that. She ought to be investigated . But she will when the state finds out. Please animal lovers don't take your pets there. There are other 24 hour emergency vets open. Everyone will know about this awful place. I miss bay max tremendously. My life is not the same without him.
