Terrible experience no organization kept everyone ...
Terrible experience no organization kept everyone in the cold took the security guy ages to start attending to us I just wish I won't have anything to do with that office

The phone lines should be shut down and erased from the website, what s the use of having a phone nobody answers. I understand you guys work hard with little resources but I feel much can be accomplished with little.
It s pretty sad how there is no organization in this consulate. No one picks up the phone and service is extremely poor. We intentionally destroy our own name and have no passion for our country and what we stand for. If there was a rating less than 1, I would give it. You all cannot employ someone to work the phone? I have been calling for 2 months now and I only get a machine voicemail that replays and replays on every extension. Pathetic!
I arrived with my family at about 9am. The line was short and we joined; social distancing. When the doors were opened at about 10am, you could see the lack of Coordination amongst ground staff.
They were giving conflicting instructions and the once orderly line scattered, with everyone try to get attention. There was no more social distancing as "Who Know Man" prevailed. Some of us expressed our displeasure.
The consulate staff could easily have walked the already created line and address clients/visitors as the pass by each.
Sanity was restored after about 20 minutes and many people just had to drop the applications for passport renewal. Couldn't the staff have done better earlier by walking the lines?
The front desk is nice, we spoken broken english, I felt like being in Naija. Other than that, nothing. I went there for passport, no passport. No computer to use to process application, not even a photocopying machine. The wall TV is not even working. The walls begging for new paint and dirty. It is a pack of shame. Up till now, after one week, my passport has not even been issued. Going from Chicago to New York Embassy a total waste.
Terrible and unprofessional. So sad. There's no difference between the way Which they offer service back home and here in the US. Nigeria is backwards in almost everything.
Please where can someone get a Nigerian visa in New York? A U.S citizen precisely.
Don't waste your time with this location. If I could give them zero stars, that's what I'd give them. They just collect your money online and there's absolutely no communication. Wasted my time going here and they started their nepotism, only letting in people they knew. After waiting for over an hour, they said they're still closed due to COVID-19 and not rendering services anymore. They were so rude and unprofessional. Ultimately I stood out in the cold for 4 hours, waiting to see if they'll have the decency to attend to me, given that there were less than 20 people waiting. Nope. Eventually, they called the police to make us leave. I'm contacting my bank to get a refund. These people have no regard for humans and their time.
I went with my 9 year old daughter and my cousin this week. I must say it was a much better experience than when I went in 2017 with my now 11 year old. They ground floor now has actual ample seating, in 2017 we had to sit on the floor. We arrived at ~10am and we were out by 1:30pm, which for us was critical as we took the train up from Philadelphia.
If their website was up to date on their requirements, I would have given them a 5-star rating. If you re going note that you also need the following documents - a copy of your old passport data page, a stamped envelope, so they can mail back your passport (I used priority mail), each family member needs the payment slip attached to their application - since I paid for my daughter I only had one payment slip which meant I had to go to the Indian shop round the corner to print out a second one, that cost me $5.
The Indian shop round the corner is definitely making loads of money off the embassy and their inability to update their website.
Finally, for parents with young kids, note that you are not allowed to bring in snacks, this was definitely an issue for us as I had packed snacks like I was expecting a sit-in , this was a strictly enforced rule.
Overall, a decent experience, I am an Ibadan girl through and through and was ready to rough it, glad to say I didn t need to, if they keep this up, you simply need to pack the right documents and your patience. I hope our passport arrives within the month as they indicated.
They do not ever answer the phone in this office, what a shame. SAD.
After my passport data wasn t coming up, Mr Chris intervened and I got it. He keeps to his word and tries his extreme best to help. Many people who I do not know their names also tried to help. P.s the lady at the reception is extremely nice. Just happy I don t have to leave a bad review. If you are nice, patient and polite you d get help at no extra cost.
Shame on all us as a Nigerian.
Our government can't do anything right!
No one ever answer the phone .
I think that bribery is going on between somebody in the Embassy and Passport Service (private company)
worst Place I had ever went for passport, Nigeria Government should do something quick about the people working in this Embasy because there service is terrible, everything so local, you will go through hard time before getting your passport terrible service beware!
The two staff at the front desk are so courteous & professional. Just explain yourself to them in a polite & respectful way & leave the rest to God. A very neat & organized environment. Before coming here, I went through the reviews & it wasn t encouraging for me at all. A lady dropped a positive message on how she got her passport & I was moved to give it a trial. I came with a positive spirit from Dallas, TX. If you want to come here, make sure you arrive early. I got to this office around 8am & was among the first set to attend to. Bring everything you re asked to bring. They may even return some back to you e.g the two passport photos but it s advisable to come with them. The capturing & fingerprinting didn t take up to five minutes. It s not impossible to get your passport same day. I m so happy all my efforts were not in vain. KUDOS!
I applied online to renew my passport, but didn't get an interview date, I was told to contact the office to schedule an interview. I called there multiple times, no-one answered. I decided to go down to the office in New York. When I got there, I was told to write my name, number and reference number down and someone would give me a call back between 11 and 2pm the same day. I didn't receive any phone call and still yet to receive an interview date.
On Friday the 8th of April at exactly 1:05pm I called the consulate office to enquire on my passport renewal process I encountered the worst customer service in my life. I asked if the consulate was open on Sunday, out of curiosity and the lady on the phone (with her thick Nigerian accent) replied with a the sarcastic answer "No we are even open on Labor Day" . I was not sure if I had heard her sarcasm correctly so I asked her to repeat herself and she started yelling at me asking why I would ask if the consulate was open on Sunday. I replied by telling her she was a representative and her job was to answer my question in a respectful manner. She then proceeded to yell some more and then hung up the phone.
Now, I am also a Nigerian I know about Nigerians and our "Nigerian" behavior but even at home I had never encountered such blatant disrespect.
This place is actually 0 stars. Don't go here unless you ABSOLUTELY have to. Even then, question your coming here. Disastrous. Just plan to be here basically the whole day because of disorganization once you walk through the door, that will cost your time.
Terrible phone service. High-handed and disrespectful operator hung up on me
This place is a joke! One front desk worker was unprofessional and rude. I know they are trying to do their job, but they could've been at least professional about it. The wait time is too long, you might as well have nothing to do all day if your willing to stay in the reception room which is usually crowded. You have to get up bright and early to come or your destined to stay here for hours. Overall my experience was a mess and if you're coming here I hope your experience will be better than mine.
My experience was nothing short but grace, went in on a holiday fingers crossed not sure if they were open but fortunately I was attended to and willingly. It's really getting better and with a humble hardworking man as a leader, the employees are up to the task. I said thank you and he replied dont mention we here to serve u, those words meant everything. Thank you n to all employees weldone.
There is a Marked difference between the consulate on 2nd Ave and the Visa Office on Lexington Ave. That is the front office run by Innovate where a private company has placed the rudest ratchet set of idiots they could find to misrepresent the image of Nigeria. And get this, the staff aren't even Nigerians. For a citizen making an inquiry about the most important piece of document that identifies me as such on the authority of the Commander in Chief, I was befuddled why I was received in such a hostile and unbecoming Manner.
This is poor oversight on a PPP arrangement that is ruining the image of Nigeria, and traumatizing its nationals seeking refuge in the consulates operations. This is classic Nigeria 101, a porous HR department in a private company has single handedly ruined a fundamental PR outlet in none other than New York State!!!!!
The Consulate staff on 2nd Ave are helpful and professional. The Passport renewal procedure is simple and straightforward, outside of the slow pace of biometrics which could definitely be improved considering the calibre of Staff there.
This is not where you go for visas or passports, which is unclear from all paperwork. Staff is nice and will redirect you to 370 Lexington, Suite 1505.
Impressive .....Mrs Dibia made sure i got my baby Intl Passport to fly out of US within 24hrs ......... Also would advice you to follow the instructions on the web site and also arrive before 1pm and come with your pen :) the lady in the passport file section found it hard to release her pen:)
Also would advice the Embassy to make the lobby waiting room for Intl Passport lively , getting a TV connected to Nigeria News Channel would not be a bad idea :)
The worst place ever, not helpful at all, my first time trying to get a visa, had all my paperwork shots, American passport, flight info, pics. Just going on vacation. Was not helpful. Now going to apply again online. If that dont work. I will cancel my flight. Why are they here in America when they are not helpful to Americans, very rude and nasty. Plus wanted me to go to some guy to get my visa, said he charges 200 hundred dollars plus processing free. Scamming.
I WAS SO MUCH IMPRESSED THAT THE CONSULATE GENERAL HIMSELF WAS ALL OVER THE PLACE TO ENSURE THAT PEOPLE ARE ATTENDED TO WITHOUT DELAY. THIS A NEW DAWN IN NEW YORK .SIR THANK YOU KEEP IT UP AND GOD BLESS
Service is much more improved. There is Orderliness and better coordination of services. Keep it up.!!
Only pleasant thing here is the front desk, the staff are rude, unprofessional and no help, plan a little extra time because with the lack of professionalism there you might spend your off day at the Embassy.
So I went to Chicago on vacation and coming back to Germany, I was told that I need to renew my passport before I could travel back, meanwhile I had up to a week before school starts, I was so anxious knowing the fact that the process of renewing passport could take up to a month, I decided to go to New York for the renewal of my passport. Getting to Nigeria embassy in New York I met the workers at the embassy I told a lady about everything while taking to her Mr Christopher Nomhwange was on his way out, I talked with him concerning everything he really understood my situation so well. I still can t believe how he helped me so fast, he was so concerned of me getting back to school in Europe on time.
I want to say a big thank you to you Mr Christopher Nomhwange for everything. May the favour of God be upon you and establish the work of your hands.
Guys if you are expecting Nigeria Embassy to mail out your passport to you, you are wasting your time....I capture on 23rd September 2019, they told me collection day is 22nd of October 2019 and i gave them paid envelope mail for them to mail it out to me, they didn't mail it to me until yesterday 9th of January 2020 i went there by myself to collect it......(and the passport has been issued since on 21/10/2019)...Better you go and collect your passport....THEY DON'T MAIL IT OUT take note
Terrible, horrible, bad experience, rate who, rubbish
It is just OK. The floor assigned to be used for Passport services and Visa applications is a bit small, and therefore is usually crowded. The staff there are like regular government staff in Nigeria, so do not expect them to go over and beyond to satisfy their customers.
If you want to use their services, visit their website and read the information pages thoroughly, Do not skip any steps, because if you do, and show up at this consulate, the could get rude with you.
Even with the place being closed, they are still trying to make sure they help people with their passport renewals.
Contrary to what I heard and read before my visit,I had a pleasant experience. The staff were good, polite and funny. I had lot of jokes from one of the female staff she gave some kind of pep talk. The air was working so there was no cranky moment and the best of all my visit was successful.I hope they keep it up. By the way, the food vendor sure cooks well.
Please does anyone know if the Nigerian embassy is opened I have an appointment for September but I live in California and I want to know if it s open so I can come down, instead of wasting my time and money.
DO NOT MAIL YOUR APPLICATIONS you will not be processed in a timely fashion. If you can go in person or send family, it is better. They are RUDE and UNPROFESSIONAL, work somewhat as 419 in that they will receive your money and expediting payment and do absolutely nothing. THEY DO NOT ANSWER CALLS OR EMAILS, and if they do, they give some rude excuse. They claimed to be "out of visas" the few times I managed to speak to someone and were waiting for "a new shipment from Nigeria". I waited weeks and in desperation with only 3 days before my flight, I had my brother in New Jersey drive to their New York Office with copies of my application and proof of all my payments. He arrived when they opened and they rudely told him to wait until 2 to be helped. He endured their mistreatment which proved that the people working there are not just rude over the phone but also in person. My application was sought for and had been untouched. They processed it right in front of him with no mention or indication that they had been "out of visas". If not for him, I would be missing my flight. THINGS NEED TO CHANGE. TERRIBLE SERVICE. THEY NEED TO REPRESENT NIGERIA BETTER THAN THIS.
Nigeria has a long way to go. Even in a country like the US, we are unable to even copy and paste the ways of the civilised people. My experience at the Consulate General of Nigeria in NY is not over as I am yet to collect / receive my sons passport till date. I just couldnt wait to give my review.
My initial experience (April 30th, 2019) was smooth even though all the staff I encountered seemed to be irritable and under pressure but I guess its a Nigerian thing. The experience was way better than I had expected and compared to all the reviews I read that gave me so much anxiety.
I paid for expedited processing ($130) for two of my children and was asked to come back after 7days (May 10th, 2019). I showed up after 7 days and after waiting for 3 hours, I was told without any empathy that only my daughters passport was ready because systems in Nigeria were down and the time zone didnt help either. I was then asked to return the following Monday (May 13th, 2019).
I went back on Monday and I was told that the passports produced on friday were too many and in such a heap that they couldnt locate my sons passport. I was asked to buy a priority/express mail for $7.35 from the post office so that it will be mailed to me seeing that my job wouldn't permit me time off work any time soon. I did and walked away hoping that for once Nigerians will prove me wrong.
Today is May 28th, 2019. One month after our application and 18 days after my son's expedited passport application was due. Still, the passport has not been mailed at all. Just gross incompetence!
Which way NIGERIA?
If there was a review less than Poor, that s the score they deserve. The New York Nigerian Embassy should learn from the Washington Dc Embassy. After so many trials of phone calls someone finally picks up and who is it? A douche bag lady, that calls herself a controller with a fake British accent. By the way she never gives out her name. She is so rude and obnoxious. she tell you she will direct you to the right office but ends up giving you her own opinion, tells you she can tell you what ever she feel like and lets you know you can't do anything about with a threatens to drop the call. And then when you ask her to speak to someone else or what s her name? Guess what!!! She drops the phone call on you and never pick up. She should be fired she is the only one with that Fake British accent and there are no two of them. I m not sure how she got that Job. She is a douchebag!!! And a ******* fill in the blanks
Unfortunately this is average service, for Nigeria. Don't go there expecting average to stellar American service. If you want a passport, expect to be there all day. Get there between 10am and 1pm. Purchase a $30 money order before you go. Eat before you go and then go out to eat after passport data processing is done. You can't take any food or drink into the building. And you have to leave baby food at the front desk, which is ridiculous. Come with reading material or other entertainment, or be prepared to make friends in the waiting room so you can pass the time having conversation. You can go out to explore the city after the interview, just be back by 3:30pm. The lady who takes pictures and verifies your data is rude and nasty and acts so put upon, as if doing her job is actually a personal favor to you, ignore her stank attitude. Not sure why she still has a job interacting with normal humans, but her male counterpart is friendly, and the other staff members try to be helpful. You will get your passport at 5pm, if you are not a young child with constantly changing features, and that is a huge plus.
My family and I went to Washington on vacation and we decided to go to New York for the renewal of our passport. When we got to Nigeria embassy in New York We met one of the workers at the embassy I told her that we came all the way from California for the renewal of our passport and the lady said I should go and talk to their boss (MR CHRISTOPHER NOMHWANGE) On getting to this man he helped us like we knew each other before. I thought this man is going to ask us for money after helping us . But this man proved me wrong. I offered him money he refused to take anything from us He said WHAT I NEEDED FROM YOU IS YOUR PRAYER I wish all Nigerian can be like this wonderful man . Our country could have be one of the best in the world. Once again thanks you Mr CHRIS for making our country proud abroad.Keep up the great work.Timothy Omolafe.
Extremely poor service. Having brought all the required documents to the embassy and asked by the attendants to make photocopies across the streets, I was told that the printer was faulty and might not come back up in a month's time. I was given a phone number to call so as to check if the printer is running. I called this number multiple times without response. On my eighth try, on the third day, someone picked the phone, and to my surprise, he said I should be checking the Nigerian immigration service website to check if the printer is operational. I asked him to know how I would check such, he replied saying I should just fiddle around the website. I have been calling this same number ever-since without any response. Pathetic and unprofessional set of people.
A most friendly organization, culture, and country!
Why is it impossible to contact anyone using the phone numbers provided on the website? Why the gross incompetence??
Garbage. What a disgrace. All that oil money and the embassy is running like a broken bucket of bolts. If I could provide a negative star rating, I'd do it.
Why don't they have office supplies like envelopes and a postage meter? Why do they ask customers to provide them with self-addressed envelopes with postage when you need your passport delivered to you? Why aren't they working on computers and scanners? Why do they have customers bouncing amongst the consulate building, FedEx, and the USPS?
I plan to file a complaint and I encourage everyone else to do the same.
And this f***-ass passport is only good for 5 years,. Trash.
Paid for my renewal online since May 2019, sept 2019 went in for my appointment and the process took about 2 hours.
I dropped my envelope which was addressed after the process but had to talk to one Mr Chris(supervisor) but didn t have to pay any extra and got my passport in 2days in my mail box
The lady( Security) at the entrance was not very friendly
My experience was great overall though
Thank u
They dont answer phone and come to work from 10 am.
I mailed my documents in and i only took the trip because there was a little delay in the expedited shipping so i had went to the office. Everyone was so nice to me it was a pleasure, no complaints like at all. I got there around 12:30pm and was done and left with my visa around 1:45pm. As long as u have all the documents you need you will be just fine
I had a good experience with all honesty .
I applied for passport renewal.and followed all that was listed on the website . I am giving a 4-star because I was not the first to be attended to despite being the first to reach the consulate at 5:50 AM even before any staff (Naija factor and man know man). They ushered us in at 10 AM and started attending to us by 11 AM. By 12 PM I had completed the bio metric capture. The building was well air conditioned I must add.
Make sure you take along your expiring(ed) Nigerian Passport and a Photocopy.
The $30.00 processing fee listed on their website is no longer collected by the consulate, so you do not need to bring a money order.
Yow will not be getting the passport same day. I was given a one-month period to pick it up. If it is inconvenient to return, you are given an option to go to the nearest USPS to make an Express service with tracking around $24.
To be honest, I received the passport 10 days after my bio metric data capture. I hope this helps someone.........
I have never been disrespected so much in my life. I traveled 3 hours, waited for another 3 hours, only to be told my passport was not ready. Then I got screamed at because asked when my passport will be ready. The worker literally screamed in my face. I finally got someone who promised to mail me my passport if I brought a pre-paid envelope. I went and bought the envelope. This was on September 20 2017. It is currently January 2, 2018. I am still waiting for my passport. I have tried to call, and their voice mailbox is forever full.
This is the worse experience ever. Wish I could give you 4 instead. I applied for correction to my passport which had an error to my DOB. Was given a pick up slip with a date, which i expressed i needed my passport as soon as possible so i can take to another consulate to process my visa for trip that was 3 months away. I made many face to face attemps to pick up my passport, yet nothing. Given 2 seperate contact to call. Majority of the time no answer to my calls or text messages. Waited for months still no results. Was asked to pay extra to have my passport expedite still nothing. Each time I went to ask of my passport, everyone would say it's not ready yet. The most annoying part is they ask for bribe money and they have a contact in the Abuja office that will process it faster. WORD OF ADVISE, don't waste your extra money, it's all nonsense. You will not get the result you are looking for. Even to the week prior to my trip, I was told to exercise patience, what kind of rubbish are these people pulling. I had no choice but cancel my entire trip with my children which is nonrefundable, didn't get to process my visa with the with the other consulate and lost out so much money. Til today still my passport is not ready.
If someone from the consulate or government official is reading this, improvements need to be made, for instance return the process as it was in the past where you could go to the consulate and have everything resolved in 1 day. To many of your workers in the passport office on the 8th floor are very rude with the exception of the security guards at the main entrance.
It's a shame that as Nigerians we get treated like second class citizens. No human should have to go through such stress. I personally feel that there is so much corruption at this consulate and a lot of shady things happening.
Amazing Experience Today at the Embassy. Very Organized and efficient people. I must commend the team at the embassy, from the reception to the guys at the 8th floor. Got there around 10am, completed my biometrics around 11:45am got my new passport around 3:30pm. Collection was scheduled to start between 2-3pm. God bless Nigeria.
Oh I spend my whole life in there waiting very unorganized never going back
The worst embassy in the whole world to pick passport problem,to go for passport interview bad.horrible Customer service
Today June 7 makes it a year of renewing my Nigeria passport. After spending 120 for the renewal fee, calling countless time without them picking it. Traveling to New York on three different situations when have spent about a thousand dollars and couldn t get it due for one issue to another which is due to the incapability and non working attitude. I know a friend who did her renewal in February and got it in March. But am grateful I got it today. I thank them though cause I don t have to travel to new York again for that
I have been to this embassy in the past and I liked the service. This year I decided to go back because I was planning a Nigerian trip and I wanted to take my new born baby and also to change my name from maiden to married. I applied online and appeared in person a month before the travel schedule. I did everything and I was giving a date to come and pick it up and because we live so far away, I left a self address envelope for the passports to be sent to me. 2 weeks after we applied I started calling the embassy to see if the passport is ready . 1, disappointment ? No one picks up the phone , they have a number one can text no reply when you text the number . I waited till after the date I was giving which was 6 weeks after the I applied as passport still did not arrive. When I got there the security officer appeared to be mad at the world. I was told your date was 5 days ago and you came now you will need to wait till 3p , I was not even giving the opportunity to express myself I was just told in a condescending manner to wait outside, as I was walking out a man in a native white attire asked if I needed help , he was once again interrupted by the security officer and the man politely walked away. I stood outside till around 1:30, A young man I recognized from the last time I came. Walked out perhaps for a break, I asked if He could help me as my bus leave NYC at 2:30 with a 30 minute walk to the port authority, he asked to see my bus ticket and I showed it to him. He was very proffesional , compassionate and ready to assist. He went to check on the passport while
I waited downstairs. He called the security officer back not a minute later to let me know that he has my baby passport but he was not able to locate mine. He gave me my baby passport and Encouraged me wait and talk to the person in charge. The pick up time was 2p, the workers at the window were talking laughing, nonchalant about the people in line, at this point it 2:15 , and no was attending to us. I knocked on the window and indicated I have a question, the man in the window rudely shouted you are not allowed to ask any questions till we are good and ready to answer you. They behave like God, even though I showed up 5 days after the date I was given my passport was not ready to be picked up. I had to cancel my plane ticket and I was not able to be refunded. You are probably wondering why I am giving 2 stars for the review when they were so cruel to me. The 2 stars is for the guys that was human enough to assist me when I approached him on his break. Nigerian embassy in NYC , Washington are disappointing, disrespectful. You don t have to treat Nigerian citizens or anyone like Garbage. A little niceness and respect goes a long way. I received my passport in the mail yesterday 7/1/18. I hope someone read this review and make a change in the embassy.
It was actually a good experience, contrary to what I had heard or was expecting. Mrs. Dibia gave a long but funny speech. I got my passport the same day and I did not even have to beg or cry. Just go there early and make sure you have all the documents stated on the website.
Cheers.
Since this pandemic hit, it's given the staff an excuse to disappear off the face of the earth. The office is open, there are people inside but you can't reach anyone through email or phone. This is the time when people should be working harder, but no...not the Nigerian Consulate. And to think the website has not be updated since 2012!
How is that even possible? People are just sitting around collecting money? How can a consulate not update it's website for 8 years?! Everyone needs to be fired and replaced. It's unacceptable and an embarrassment.
First of all, I want to commend the staff at Nigeria House who processed passports for myself and my family. The process was fast, efficient, and the staff were very courteous. I was also impressed that they all kept their composure despite working in such awful conditions. The central air conditioner stopped working recently and is yet to be fixed. This was August in New York, so you can imagine how HOT it was in there! Yet, there were no complaints from them. They just did their job and with a smile! If you follow the instructions correctly regarding making payments, and completing the forms, then you should have no problems. We were in and out in 20 minutes because we followed all the instructions and had our documents neatly organized for processing. We came back around 3pm and our passports were ready. I know we like to bash and rag on our country, but I also thought it was important to recognize the staff at the passport office for a job well done! God bless them for keeping their cool even under such awful working conditions. Finally, that location is prime real estate in New York City if not America - right next to the UN, yet the inside of the building is embarrassing and poorly maintained. I hope they fix the air conditioning system soon. But GOOD JOB OVERALL!!
They were courteous, smiling, genuinely happy and polite yet extremely professional. Never thought a Nigerian embassy could muster that much efficiency and professionalism. Debbie and Steve were the first point of contact and they do Nigeria proud!
3 days trying to get thru no one picks up the phone. The lady at front desk was very nice and polite. Their phones don't even accept messages the Voice mail is full. What nonsense is this oo
It is a terrible place to be . They have Nigeria attitude entirely. My experience with one of the ladies who I presumed to be a senior officer kept us waiting for 30mins, reason she gave was that she was on a call with her husband in Nigeria. After the long wait with my wife, I went back to knock at her door, perhaps she forgot she kept people waiting and she got furious and asked me if she doesn t have the right to speak with her husband? I was upset and very disappointed with that statement cos there is no where in the world expect in Nigeria an employee will keep customers waiting during official hours and be making personal calls. After paying 100 dollars money order just to get a letter to confirm that my children s passport were certified copies from the Nigeria immigration service. Most of the staffs are very rude and nonchalant attitude to work. Please the Authorities should look into this.
I did my biometric on the 3rd of October 2019 and I was told my passport will be ready by Nov 2nd I bought FedEx envelope for mailing to my address up till this present moment I haven't got my passport and try calling them no body is picking up the phone and I need to travel by first week of December this is so ridiculous
Well I was surprised at the reception I got the day I visited with my husband in September, We had fears in our minds reading all the comments here.
So here is it; people go in with negative vibes from reading the negative comments here and attack the people working there with rude comments. We have to learn to respect people especially our own people.
Everything went smoothly, I got my passport last week and I was supposed to get it in November even though I changed my name. We are yet to receive my husband s passport but we are grateful and hopeful Still, will call them because it supposed to have been sent since on the 4th of this month.
NB: Kudos to the secretary at the front door; I can t remember her name again. She is very good at what she does. Well done sis.
Didnt really have any problems with the staff renewing my passport. Everyone has their own opinion of the place but i think if you have all the documents listed online the process would be easier. With that being said they could be more professional and organized but we know its Nigerian employees so that would be a miracle.
I literally got off the phone with a woman with a british accent so immediately I thought I would be treated with respect. Of course that was not the case at all. She had the most disgusting "why don't you just help yourself" attitude. I know some Nigerians are not the most polite people, from past experiences and because I used to live there, but lord have mercy you do not need to have a job answering phones if you are going to be so disgusting. Your unwillingness to help anyone is so unnecessary. You shouldn't work there and someone should be listening to how you are turning people AWAY . Good job.
Wow, I am literally in tears. I have never experieneced so much hateful rudeness like I did when I spoke to the man in the Visa department. I called about an issue I had regarding a visa and he would not even let me speak, all he was doing is yelling and acted like I did something wrong. He ended up hanging up on me, I didn t even bother calling the extension back, no one deserves to be treated like that. I spoke to a very nice operator and she gave me some advice, im just hoping I can get my issue resolved before I have to travel.
Though the consulate is operating in the US, the service is not near expectation. First the waiting area on the ground floor behind the security post is an eye sore. The workers are not on time schedule. Customer service window (8th floor) was supposed to reopen for pick up at 2pm. As at 2.55pm the window remained closed and no one talk to almost 100 people in the very small area used as elevator lobby and reception at the same time. The condition here is not encouraging!
I wish that I could give this consulate zero stars. The absolute worst experience I have had in customer service. I applied for a visa over two months ago and didn't hear back. I have called, sent emails, sent physical mail and no responses for weeks. Finally got a hold of someone who promised to send me my visa. Talked to her on the phone every day for weeks, and did not receive it. I feel scammed out of the hundreds of dollars I spent on the application and overnight envelopes they requested. I'm supposed to leave for Nigeria tomorrow. An absolute abomination of an establishment. Please do not go here
First of all, I want to say thank you for mailing my passport(especially to Mike, the person that captured me, I m sure he saw to it....)
I don t usually give reviews but I m making this based on the saying by my people e to dike na nke omere, ya eme ozo. So I m giving them 4 stars. I went for capture in Jan, and was told it d be ready in Feb, I received it 2days ago.
That said, I think they NEED improvement on the wait time. I had 1pm appointment, there was no reason whatsoever for me to wait 3-4hours before getting captured. It took less than 15mins to get captured, so if each worker captures 4 people in 1hr, in 8 hours he must have captured 30(-+) 2(including bathroom/lunch breaks) And based on these numbers, appointment should be set so workers are Not overwhelmed and attendees are not forced to waste good hours. I guess we hate math/stat as Nigerians....
And there is no reason to have walk-in persons disrupt this arrangement until everyone who has appointment is seen.
In other words they need to be more strategically Organized! We are in America for Christ sake.
Thanks.
One of the worst experiences in my life, I paid for my passport back in March, they gave me an interview Scheduled for June, the payment receipt clearly states that my payment is valid for a year, I could not make it to New York in June, so I had to reschedule my appointment to November 19, I traveled from Chicago to New York to apply for my passport, I gave them a paid envelope for them to return my passports,Mr. Chris gave me his card to follow up with him, I pleaded to Mr. Chris for my passport because I wanted to spend Christmas and New Year s and Nigeria since I have not been there since 2005, Mr. Chris ignored all my calls up until January 8,To tell me that my payment was expired and that I have to send another money order for them to print my passports,And that he wanted the money order to his name, what the hell is going on? I called the embassy and the route operator answered me, and she started yelling to the phone, this point I don t know what to do, I can t get a passport for my own country that I was born in, how ridiculous.
This is by far the worst office I have ever visited for any reason. Extremely unprofessional, none of their systems work. They even asked me to make my own copies and buy my own envelopes.
Everyone tells you different information and there is no accountability and no one in charge. They just send you in circles and only tend to people they know or are willing to pay off employees. This experience was honestly appalling. If you know other locations in other cities/states I would consider taking a trip their just for the peace of mind.
After all the money I spent to renew my passport with these people I am still unclear on when or even if I will receive my new passport.
Compared to the Atlanta Embassy, I found the staff here to be amicable and customer-oriented. However, they are quite slow in attending to passport applicants and have not yet figured out how to expedite passport applications once you pay for it. I paid for the same day passport with a money order of $150 but my passport was not ready until the next day. Two-day expedite service cost $100 but they refused to refund me the additional $50. This is really unprofessional and was a big blight on my experience. So don't bother using the same day passport services as it is a waste of money. Still I would like to commend Mr Humphrey, Mr Nasiru and several other staff members who showed care and concern.
I was at the embassy/consulate last Wednesday to collect a LIFE CERTIFICATE .
I was attended to by this awesome personality called Amachree, a lawyer.
She was not only beautiful, but friendly, polite, and professional inspite of us all crowding around her to get her attention.
She collected my details and informed me that she will hand it over to the person in charge.
Not only did she keep her promise, she also called to let me know she did and my case was receiving attention.
Though I still waited for 2hours before I collected the letter, I appreciate her dedication and professional approach.
Terribly run. I mailed my passport and waited TWO MONTHS and got nothing back. their voicemail is forever full. I went to the embassy and waited 2.5 hours. once I finally got to someone, his desk was COVERED in UNOPENED mail. I told him my problem and he dug through the pile of mail and found my passport just sitting there, visa still unprocessed.
Do not mail anything to the incompetent people here, they are extremely disorganized. I'm just glad they didnt lose it behind a shelf.
If you want to use this embassy, visit them in person!
So after reading all the negative review i was skeptical about using the embassy. They were not perfectly organized, but i got what i wanted with no waste of time or stress.
They sent me my document before time.
Thanks.
I had a nice experience with the Embassy NY term when they came to Cincinnati to process Nigerian Passports. My baby's Passport was sent to me in less then two week after their visit to Cincinnati. Well Done and keep the Good Work.
This is the worse embassy i have ever been associated with. They careless about the general public, give the worse service, do not answer their phones so why have it? and fail customers on the day they promise to issue visas. Moreover, once you pay them, it's non refundable. Why should this be happening in this modern world. I wonder who in the Nigerian government reads this and takes action. So sad!
My husband needed a new passport desperately in order to travel home quickly after the death of his father. He was treated with compassion and understanding and received his passport straightaway. Not only that, the staff there would not accept extra payment for the swift service which is incredible considering Nigeria is nearly synonymous for bribes and corruption. We really appreciate how they treated him in our time of crisis. Thank you ooo
I have not given five stars because of all the problems the others speak of that did still affected us: not answering phones, the bathrooms being extremely unhygienic, overall lack of organization.
Thumbs up Nigerian Embassy Newyork.I was really surprised to receive good service.I submitted my application and received my passport the same day.The service was swift and the staff were friendly even taking time out to make the kids feel comfortable. The only negative experience was at the front desk. The lady who collected the application was kind of rude, even though she achieved the job,her tone was wrong. However on average I must say they got it right this time.Let's hope you will keep it up! Good job!
I had a surprisingly good experience here. just take all the documents specified on the website PLUS data page of your passport and you should be good. carry cash in case you need to make photocopy. I was probably in and out in 1.5 to 2 hrs. still waiting for the passport (past the due date) so four stars.
*UPDATE: google alerted me that this review was getting a lot of views so I thought it was only fair to update. My passport was delivered to my mail about a week or 2 after the due date. So overall, for me, this embassy was great for processing and delivering my passport.
good luck.
The team from this embassy came to Minnesota on May 24th, 2019 to complete the last step ( biometrics ) of passport reissue. Of course money was paid for online application, in addition to payment of $100 to embassy staff and $ 50 to the organizers of the event. Today is September 18, 2019 (4 months later ), we do not have the passports and we are unable to contact anybody at the embassy about status of the reissue. There is no communication whatsoever. The phone number is bogus, nobody picks it up. It is such a shame that Nigerian embassy staff would treat other Nigerians so shabbily.
System was down. Had to wait hours for it to come back on. Just a terrible experience overall. Website doesnt tell you all the things you have to bring. 1 star!
i dont know what rubbish this is where I apply for a passport and the processing date is next year the same date i applied...what is this?
They have no regards for people. Not business oriented. The staff think that they are doing you a favor.
Almost impossible to get the embassy on the phone. can this be fixed. i spend almost 24 hours redialing the number and no one picks up and it doesnt go to voicemail!! very fustrating.
Oh man...I wish you could give no stars. Worst place ever. The workers are disrespectful to you and have no respect for the elderly. How do you scream at an elderly woman and then ask a young boy for respect? Then you have kids wait 5 hours in the lobby and anoyher 3 hours in the waiting room...and then you put up a sign that says "no eating or drinking"? Such a bad example of Nigerians
I had a smooth process for my passport renewal. I arrived on Tuesday, 09/11/18 at around 10:35 AM, went through the security checkpoint, and submitted my documents at the front desk. I got called for biometrics at around 12:10 PM (took my picture and fingerprints) and walked out the door about 12:30 PM.
I paid for the 3-7 day expedited processing. I picked up my passport the next Tuesday, 09/18/18. On the pickup day, I arrived at 2:20 PM and had to sit and wait a while before going upstairs to the 8th floor. When I got upstairs, I waited on a short line, was given my passport, signed the book and was done by 3:18 PM. Everything went smoothly for me and the staff was courteous, efficient and knowledgeable both times I went there.
Before my 09/11/18 visit, I called to reschedule my initial appointment date (which was all the way in November) to one more convenient for me (which was then changed to the 09/11 date). They truly have difficulty picking up the phone (being nice here lol). But when I am determined about something, I am relentless. I called about 50 times in the span of 30 minutes (no exaggeration here) until someone finally answered the phone and helped me reschedule my appointment. I was fully prepared to disturb their lives that day with endless calls until someone picked up the phone. Moral of the story, be relentless and determined!
My advice, is to do a lot of research before you go to the embassy. I saw conflicting information in several places online, so I took all the documents that they could possibly ask for. It s better to be safe than sorry. They ended up not needing those extra documents that I brought, and they didn t need the $30 money order or the two passport photos.
Overall advice: be respectful and come prepared (with everything that they could possibly ask for), say a quick prayer for grace and favor to your God (I did this lol) and everything should go smoothly.
Terrible service! Terribly pathetic consulates! But they're paid in $ while they do nothing! Common phone numbers or enail that they put on their website for people to call for enquiries, they will never respond to! They deserve NO ONE STAR @ ALL !
Terrible!!!
I applied for a passport renewal since last year August 2018 and I couldn t get a date for interview till October ending 2018. Lo and behold I got a date which was December 10th 2018, went for the capturing and biometric on the same day. I was told I should expect it in my mail January 10th 2019. Today is June 12 2019. I till haven t gotten anything in the mail. Oh and I tried calling, texting and emailing them. It got to a point that they blocked me, and did I mention that I paid $155 for the passport.
What a shame!
I NEED MY PASSPORT O And it s taking forever
One star is too generous for this place. Why have a number if NO ONE picks it up! I called three days in the roll, during "working hours" and never got anyone. This place frustrates me beyond words. If I never have to deal with this place ever again it will be too soon!!!!
The turn around time is extremely too long for passport application, beside waiting for your passport to be mailed takes longer than 6 weeks is just ridiculous. I BELIEVED WE ARE THE GOVERNMENT, AND EVERY CHANGE BEGINS WITH EVERY NIGERIAN DOING THEIR BEST SERVICE REGARDLESS OF HOW MESSED UP OUR BROKEN SYSTEM IS!!!
I still haven t received my passport since september that i went to apply for one. Postoffice tracking number showed they have not even attempted to mail my passport. I spent alot of money to drive to newyork, applied for passport for me and my kids. Nigerian government displaying their unprofessional services everywhere around the world. This is sickening.
I got a quick service and was impressed with the attitude of the staff.
Mrs Dibia gives hope! If you are in New York and need the assistance of the Consulate General of Nigeria just go there and ask of Mrs Dibia. You don't need to know her or anybody who knows her before hand. I can tell you she will do her very best to ensure you are served as you deserve. I experienced this myself. God bless her.
I renewed my passport today, September 9 and I have nothing but praises for Mrs. Dibia for the professional and efficient manner that she handled the process. I met more than 25 people when I got there around 11:30 a.m. and most people walked out with their new or renewed passports shortly after 2p.m. The consulate was unbelievably hot but Mrs. Dibia was able to cool and calm nerves by courteously and humorously assuring everyone that she will expedite the process. She calmly introduced herself, explained the process to us, answered questions and went to work. She personally was behind one of the two cameras for passport photos while directing her staff to move the process along. For the first time, I saw fellow Nigerians at the Nigerian House in NY heap praises on a staff of the consulate. Mrs. Dibia earned them.
The heat and poor condition of the building are for another day.
