Definitely worth a visit. If you are a New Yorker, this is a must at least once. Get there a little early to take pictures. It gets crowded very quickly. There is a restaurant inside and snack bars. I would suggest you do not seat in the boxes. When they state that the view is obstructed, they mean it! The boxes are small and tight. Not worth it. Seat somewhere in the middle even if its in balcony. The snack bar is super expensive so eat before going. Its a long show but there is a break. I love that they have translators on every seat. Its pretty cheap, starting at 30 and goes up depending where you seat.

All other Opera houses aspire to the greatness of the met. World renowned for its productions, it truly is the perfect night at the opera. Make sure that you are on time because the doors will close promptly at show time and you will have to wait for an intermission to go in and take your seat. Great programs for discount tickets if you are a student and they have weekly drawings for rush tickets on their website that you can enter to win on Monday's.

This place is awesome to go and see a show or concerts. There are many rooms which are very spacious. I went to see a pianist exhibitions and enjoy my time listening to great music. Something different from my norm however would definitely do it again.

Giving it 4 stars because of its beauty. If I had to rate it on the class of the guests I'd give 0 stars. Just because you are going to the opera does not mean you are royalty. Treat others with respect. People shushing...one lady was coughing to clear her throat and people started looking at her like she just committed grand larceny. I couldnt believe how snooty people were here...tickets range from 25.00 and up people its NOT that serious.

Do your research before you go. On the back of the seats is a little screen where you can read in English what is going on in the Opera.

As far as dress code...I saw everything from Mc hammer pants to street Walker skirts.. Some people were in Jean's as well. There was one person wearing a gown...parking is right outside...

Honestly I'd never go back. Not because of the place it's just not my thing. And unfortunately snobby people ruined the experience as well. Even the workers were in agreement ...their words were...well it's the "Opera" I'd say just crop yourself into a online pic of the Metropolitan and save yourself the gas and nausea of New Yorkers who think they are better then you.

The metropolitan opera rents binoculars that do not work. When I complained I was mistreated by the staff. I was very disappointed. The opera was great. It is a shame that my experience was shadowed by this.

There is no better place for me to be as an avid Opera Lover . In fact, I said to my daughter that I will live till my last day on earth in the Big Apple because of The Met Opera House!

The Met was a disappointment.

The Met was a disappointment.
But today the streaming of Parsifal , tremendous performance; the clouds, the light, the Universe and of course the Music and the tremendous artists playing the principles roles.
To experience!

So much to see. Try and be there early. The walls are decorated with pictures and memorabilia on every floor. The garage parking can be just as expensive as the opera itself. Some people like to dress to the max and others are relaxed in jeans and button down shirts. There are screens in front of each person providing translation text.

Well, the Metropolitan Opera is a grand and exquisite venue to see a performance. The seating options are vast with lots of price options, but I don't think there is a bad seat in the house. Even being way up in the family circle, we could hear everything perfectly. Couldn't see faces well from up there, but nothing about the story or set was lost or minimized by our seating option.
I was a bit disappointed with the price of their house wine being $27 per glass at the concession stand and the fact that we were rushed out of the bathroom after the show.

It was a unique experience. It is a big building, well kept, and great acoustics. We watched Rigoletto and I was in love with the passion of each one of the actors/singers. A magnificent representation of the Rigoletto opera with a modern touch.

We ate dinner prior the opera at the Grand Tier; the restaurant on the second tier of the building. I guess that deserves another review, but take notes on this: during the first intermission, the waiter places your dessert on the table and it gives you perfect time to enjoy coffee and dessert.

Great combination!

Of the course the productions at the Met are wonderful, with the latest presentation of Mephistophele no exception. However, the drinks and food at intermission are absurdly overpriced. $6 for a tiny plastic bottle of water that would cost $0.99 elsewhere. $15 for a cold, plastic-wrapped, sandwich. $8 for a chocolate chip cookie. And nary a surface anywhere to put down your $5 cup of drip coffee or $21 flute of Champagne. Sure, I get it, they re an arts organization and need to make money somehow. Still, I suspect they would actually make more money if they priced refreshments in the realm of sanity, which would encourage a greater number of people to buy something at intermissions.

I've been an opera fan since college when I took a liberal Arts course on the subject. The Met is an irreplaceable landmark with legendary performances with awe-inspiring, magnificent sets and world-class singers. I understand from a recent 60 Minutes segment on the Met that the general manager Peter Gelb is undertaking a campaign to transmit Live in HD performances to national movie theaters. I couldn't be more pleased to see them trying to cultivate a wider audience this way and spread the wealth of culture to a new generation.

Customer Service is BAD! It is not simply unprofessional, but rude. Be very careful before ordering tickets, because if you will simply find a better seat they will refuse to exchange them. In other words, Metropolitan Opera is just another "money taker" who does not care about their customers. It is very sad, that in place where culture and intelligence have to be cherished, attitude and discourtesy at it's bloom. Shame Metropolitan Opera!

I love Metropolitan Opera. I love the building, the front with fountain and stairs with digital screen.
There is a beautiful venue, impressive chandelier, amazing windows.
staff is very friendly.
It's very clean everywhere.
Performances are incredible: opera as well as ballet.
You might see good dressed beggars who beg for tickets for a performance. I've met those beggars twice.
Highly recommend to visit this place

Great place for all culture lovers. What is not very convenient is the waiting area - they let the people in only like 30 minutes before the start of the show, which means two things:
- you won't have enough time to tour the entire interior
- the crowd will be gathering at the entrance, with no queue lines or structure; elderly will have no place sit and the staff will be slow with checking the tickets.
At such an important institution, this needs an urgent improvement - it's 21st century now and queuing is now a science on its own; it doesn't take much to fix these issues though.

I saw the performance of Aida in December with my mother and daughter. It was a wonderful first opera experience for my daughter. The sets were outstanding. The singers were wonderful. There's nothing like the excitement of live entertainment in New York City, especially for a young teenager. Highly recommend!

Came for the premiere of Cendrillon starring Joyce DiDonato, Stephanie Blythe, Alice Coote and Kathleen Kim. A wonderful production by a fabulous cast, I highly recommend it. The Met is always a wonder to visit but the exorbitant prices for intermission snacks/drinks are ridiculous even for New York standards. $8 for a cookie? Yeah, right... If the Met wants to attract younger folk and more audiences, try not being so elitist in what you offer around the opera. Opera IS for everyone. $8 cookies are not.

I love the opera, and I love this venue. Everything about this place is amazing except one thing which is very important; not all of the english script displays in the back of the seats functional. I saw several people trying to turn it on but they didn't work. I trued to turn one on and it didn't work either. I believe that this is a very important detail that the maintenance team should address and take care of immediately.
Street parking near Lincoln center is quiet a challenge, so plan accordingly.

Amazing experience. A must to everyone in NYC who values high arts to check in out. You'll see people from all walks of live in the audience: from ones to wearing sandals and ripped jeans to those in tuxedos and night gowns

The place to visit if you are an opera fan. Grace bought tickets for a box in the high balcony. I was dizzy sitting on the edge all the way up there. During the first intermission we went to the box office. They were very accommodating and exchanged our seats for orchestra level. Thanks so much for that!

That than which nothing greater can be conceived. Music and staging that remind you why, no matter what bad is happening in your or anybody else s world, it s better to be alive and at the Met. And you can have your desert and drinks at intermission. Fifth star when dress code established and enforced.
