Beautiful place - saw a wonderful opera here. Everything about the performance and the venue was awesome.
This is one of my all-time favorite places in all of New York City. A colleague had an extra ticket to see the Kirov Opera Festival way back in 1997, and we attended anywhere between 15-25 operas from then until a couple of years ago when he transplanted out of country. Now my girls are finally reaching an age where they will begin to become more regular attendees of the Met--can't wait! Thank you for years and years of immensely transportational experience...I am looking forward to many more!
I love a night on the town at Lincoln Center. It's a beautiful place to spend an evening. We just watched a ballet performance, but honestly, all performances at the Lincoln Center are truly a masterpiece.
Classic NYC institution. Global mecca for Opera. Please, if you come, don't just put on a sweater and jeans and sneakers. This is THE MET. Formal dress. Some places in life are not, and should not, be treated casually. This is one of them. Dress up and enjoy a beautiful elegant day of culture.
Beautiful space especially love the chandeliers. Saw Wozzeck- delightfully dark and twisted opera!
The MET always puts on extremely high end productions with fantastic staging, direction, and performances by all of the talented performers involved. I was blown away by the performance of The Exterminating Angel that I saw and hope to be back for many more.
An important note (especially to those arriving just before curtain). The subtitles at The MET are on individual screens with purposefully narrow viewing angles so as to not distract other opera-goers. These screens are great and I much prefer them to the projected screens above the stage at many opera companies, however, there is a small button that you must press to activate the screen. Make sure you press that before the lights go off because it's hard to find once the do. Again, great system and even greater opera company. Highly recommend!
What a wonderful time we had. Ate brunch right there before seeing the Opera...quite pricey but fantast!
The theatre itself is astounding. Beautifully crafted, great accoustics and comfy chairs. My only letdown was to very unknowingly have bought box seats that could only see 10% of what was on stage which for a ballet really sucked. Not sure why they are even sold. So for others: box 1+2 in the parterre should be avoided for stage shows, I've rather the family circle in the nosebleed instead.
It just great to go for the experience of architecture and opera live and in living color. Its just historic, iconic and spectacular. The productions are just world class period. Must go!!!
A NYC institution. Good seats are not cheap, but discounts are available to those with the NYCID.
One of the few theatres in the world performing different opera productions in the same days. Great stage and a very nice atmosphere. Good view from almost all the seats. Unique foyer with the pictures of all the singers who performed over all the years. Worth attending one of the productions.
Recently came here to see the collaboration between street artist JR and the NYC ballet. The theatre itself is breathtaking upon arrival, my favorite installation being the beautiful spherical chandelier in the main theatre. We were set in the back but were still able to see everything onstage perfectly. It was a delightful night out that expanded my horizons and lifted my spirits. The art works by JR were also incredibly impressive, and the entire lovely experience was capped off with great music played by a live DJ and an open beer bar. I would eagerly come back to Lincoln Center for future performances. It was a fabulous night at the ballet!:)
As illustrated in the accompanying photo below, those walking past the beautiful Lincoln Center For The Performing Arts complex in Manhattan s Lincoln Square section during the summer months are treated to the quintessentially New York City phenomenon of New Yorkers, whether or not they had tickets to a performance, enjoying a summer evening reclining in front of the Lincoln Center fountains with the Metropolitan Opera House serving as backdrop. While the Metropolitan Opera (commonly referred to as The Met ) has been around since 1880, it has made its home at the Lincoln Center Metropolitan Opera House building it currently occupies since 1966.
I have been a subscriber for over 20 years. I am an opera fun. I like many of the MET productions but sone times they goof with casting, with stage sets and with voices that show that the singes have not rehearsed hard enough. The Orchestra is first class though sone conductors do not control the volume of it which affects the singing as the singes have to compete for volumes that require very high register. But all in all the MET is a great place for Opera
lovely place! the ambiance. every production thrills the senses!
We had a beautiful night at the Opera. We went to see Mozart's Don Giovanni and it was spectacular. The building itself is as impressive on the inside as on the outside.
Beautiful. Some of the only real talent left in the world
A gold standard for the arts....Opera, Ballet, theater....just go get some culture...
This is a journey. The largest opera house in the world with the most extravagant production . There are tickets for every level and sometimes $25 rush ticket for an orchestra seat
The ultimate opera experience in the United States. Delicious dinner before a wonderful production of Don Giovanni.
The Metropolitan Opera has always engaged many of the world s most important artists. Christine Nilsson and Marcella Sembrich shared leading roles during the opening season. In the German seasons that followed, Lilli Lehmann dominated the More
The most fantastic place to see an opera on the planet!!!
Beautiful venue for opera, the largest seating of any repertory opera house on Earth. Well run and staffed, it is a pleasure to attend this venue. The performers here are top shelf, drawn from the opera elite. Production values, including set design, are amazing. The Met has earned it's well deserved reputation of excellence.
Fabulous theatre and worth the little walk out of town. You do need to dress up a little.
Great opera..little intermission snafu but over all wonderful!!!
The metropolitan Opera is one of the few places where you can see amazing productions and exceptional artists. Prices in the family circle make it one of the most affordable venues in New York City. I love this place!
What an amazing visit to New York - viewing the production of "Porgy and Bess" was worth the entire trip!
Porgy and Bess...amazing production. A must to visit when in nyc...spend the money..it's worth it!
It exudes opulence through the golden ceiling and red velvet seatings. I love the xylophones the ushers use to signal the start of the show.
My sister and I took my mother to see the Magic Flute for her birthday. We had an amazing time. Show, customer service and seats were great. My only two issues which are minor and did not really hinder the experience are the bar is cash only. Be sure to bring cash... and there once was a time when people didn't show up to the opera in Jeans!!! Those days are long gone. Don't waste too much time getting dressed up as the majority does not.
A very spacious and grand place. The Balcony is high. The orchestra was amazing. A very good experience all-around.
The place to go if you have any interest in opera. I've seen three shows here and each had fantastic singing, sets, and costumes. The building itself is beautiful and worth a visit even without the added bonus of an opera. Tickets are very reasonably priced with most shows starting at $25. Even in the cheap seats you will have a wonderful experience here.
Looked forward for months to a visit. But management weak over Domingo issues and presumably didn't gauge well the feelings of other performers. So last minute shuffling meant something of a lacklustre performance of a 2007 revival. The building is splendid and we loved being there but it deserves better management.
The Metropolitan Opera doesn't need even a single review. But I came here to say this: if you are a student, you can get $25 and $35 tickets online by signing up for their student program. If you buy tickets as soon as they come up you can even get the best seats in the house (like prime orchestra) for so cheap.
They also screen operas now in HD in movie theaters around the world. It's somewhat more expensive than a regular movie ticket but I had an absolute blast watching Tosca. The close-ups are unbelievable, which is something you'd never get in the opera house, and they have interviews with the actors during the intermissions. It's also a great way for them to raise money. I would absolutely recommend the Met in HD, but act fast because tickets sell out crazy fast.
Amazing experience! Except the airconditioning was too hard so i was freezing during the play... but still amazing!
A must when visiting NYC. Experience some of the best performing arts anywhere, at one of the world's iconic opera houses. Highly recommended.
Beautiful venue and Rigoletto was thrilling. Be prepared to overspend in drinks though.
Awful tight uncomfortable seats..amazing performances
Loved the Opera. Watched Marnie, and had a late night dinner with Peabody Southwell, one of the stars.
This building is probably one of the most beautiful in NYC, and performances are legendary, unbelieavably good, unforgettable. Contrary to common belief, there are quite affordable tickets. On sunday mornings they offer complementary coffee and tea to visitors
The farther back you are, the better the experience.
Amazing performance of Romeo and Juliet by the American Ballet Theater
I work in the Childrens chorus here and it is the best. The stage is so beautiful and it is known worldwide.
The evening was beautiful with a slight breeze. My anticipation for celebrating Alvin Ailey, supporting the students and watching all the dancers perform a 10! The architecture, the lighting and the overall grandeur of the Lincoln Center just fabulous!
Excellent place to see ballet and listen to opera in New York. Also, nice pieces of theater. The place is too beautiful and modern.
Sat in the Family Circle section. The view was great and the acoustics just right. Great value for the price.
Great acoustics and amazing productions... Definitely worth a visit!
Great performance
Slovenly audience
T shirts and jeans
Not proper
Started 5 minutes late
Let people in during first act
Night as well go to movies and see a Saturday matinee.
No magic Anymore
A splendid place which is worth a visit, even for those who don't love opera. The experience of being there for a performance is incredible. There are individual mini displays with instant translation of the script in Italian, English, German and Spanish!
Still great after all these years, like going home. They even have real tickets you can hold in your paws.
Great place to see an opera. Saw Die Fledermaus here and loves the ambiance and experience. The decor is great with huge chandeliers, and an opulent gilded age vibe. The bar is good with several selections of bubbly, though prices are high and the staff is surly. For a unique and fun night with high culture, highly recommended.
Everyone should experience Opera at least once. It is awe inspiring
The acoustics are great! Every opera I've seen here has been fantastic. The orchestra is second to none.
If your a student try looking into the Met student program for $35 tickets!
It's the temple of opera... There are many special deals on line. It is an unparalleled music experience
Even people who are not fans of opera or classical music will find a trip to the Met Opera House enjoyable. The edifice is magnificent. Their trademark starburst Swarovski crystal chandeliers are so beautiful. The gold leaf ceilings inside the performance space is quite impressive. The biggest opera stars in the world perform a very diverse selection of operas from the well loved repertory classics to contemporary work. The productions are incredible--sets, costumes, lights, props, supernumeraries that will make your jaw drop. The acoustics are unsurprisingly great and their orchestra is among the finest I've heard. Pick up a nice trinket at the gift shop.
Lovely experience, easily accessible for mobility challenged except the public toilet, which was down stairs. Once again, super service - who said New Yorker are rude? We've only met friendly, helpful people here in New York. Opera Shop also well-stocked, good variety and lovely staff. A great first-time experience.
High quality performances in one of the most beautiful and stylish buildings in Manhattan. if you are a student get the discount tickets and binoculars
If you are fascinated by a good architecture, this is the food for your soul. What an beautiful piece of architecture, with a glowing chandelier at he entrance leading to two sided stairs not an amazing theatre with wall to wall red velvet covering almost whole interior. I don't have words to describe ....Love love love
BEAUTIFUL building. Exquisite show & overall experience. WORTH EVERY PENNY
Come enjoy the best Opera performers of the world, people watch and dress up.
Do you have to say any more then The MET. World Class
Went to see Don Giovanni, 3 hrs with a 35 minute intermission. The actors were wonderful, the orchestra amazing but it is along time to sit in a seat. The Metropolitan Opera House is beautifully decorated.
The Met Opera is a New York institution and a must-see place to go. Everything from the staging to the performances are world class and a wonderful theater experience that is unique. If you haven't seen an opera, then the Met Opera is the place to go see it!
So beautiful! Both the architecture and the performances. I really enjoyed the transcription in the wall in front of us (we were on the family balcony). Amazing sound, amazing views.
I have to say what I really appreciate: we arrived moments before curtain and the staff was AMAZING at rushing us through to be sure we didn't miss the first act! We so appreciate the staff and performers at the Met!
It is always a wonderful experience to visit the Metropolitan Opera. The music and singing are transcendent.
World famous opera house. The best deal is to try to get rush tickets rear orchestra seats for $25. Have to do it on the day of the show.
This review will be light on words, except to review Box 12. It contains 8 seats, with steps within the box. The locked Pre-Box Room (foyer) has no steps, is approximately 24 SF, has 4 hooks with hangers for coats, and must be unlocked by an usher. The Tuesday night crowd consists of 2 regulars (1 Silver Fox, and 1 Silver Panther), and otherwise empty seats, and changing guests. Box 13 (which may be numbered as Box 14) by contrast is larger, has a better view, and takes up a "curving" point, giving it an airy feel.
Not much to say about The Met, besides the fact that it's beautiful and wonderful place to be. Nevertheless, when you see a show, use the restrooms on the lower levels since they are less crowded. Also, pre-order your drinks for intermission before the performance starts. Also, if you are ok with semi partial view, sit in the Family Circle boxes. You get your own little area with seats that aren't attached to the floor and you have more room. The fountain out front is perfect for pictures!
This place is amazing in but cultural experiences and the architectural design. Beautifully kept up and maintained. The variety of performances that are offered on the stage is astounding.
This grand opera house was built in the 1960s and still looks magnificent today, even though some of the gold leaf on the ceiling needs to be replaced.
The acoustics are very good and you will be able to to hear well even from the top balcony.
Treat yourself to feel like a rich person and walk up the center staircase. From there you can take the elevator to the cheap seats!
If you are sitting in the nose bleed section you can dress anyway that you like, but if you spent the money for great seats down a few levels, dress to impress!
The Met Opera is amazing. My favourite experience in New York so far. I could follow along with English subtitles and the venue was amazing. The performance of Carmen was spectacular, the set design performers and orchestra we're just sensational. Highly recommend seeing a performance here.
Opera at its best. The building is everything one wants for a magnificent setting
Always an incredible experience at the Met. If you love opera or even if you don't, come to Metropolitan Opera House and be transported to a time when elegance & music are reunited.
La Nozze de Figaro at Met Opera. Fantastic performance.
Beautifull opera, nice sound everythere even you bout la st libe tikets. But garderob cost extra money. Mostly people set with their winter clowes on hands. Sets are wide enougth and each chear has subtitle line . I love this opera house will back for sure
