This is such a special place. A lover of great music including classical form. No place like the Metropolitan Opera...never disappoints. Please respect the elegant ambiance and dress appropriately. No jeans and sneakers. Dress up be pretty and debonair. Try it you may just love it!

It's really clean and nice. Just be ready for huge crowds. My one complaint was how bad the ushers were at their job. We went to the ushers and asked which row we were on and they told us the wrong place three times, all different people. They told us to go to the other one (now this was when the show was just about to start, they weren't doing the chimes anymore) and we asked if they were still going to let us in the other one. They told us to just run and that they weren't. So..that was annoying.

How else could I put it? And it is not a reference to Aida, one of the many amazing production in the MET Opera repertoire.

You are convinced that the Opera is not for you? Give MET Opera a chance to prove you wrong.

With tickets starting at $25. How much are you risking?

You probably do not want to jump into the deep end and go for a 5-hour Wagner performance where you will be yelled at in German.

There are so many greats productions everywhere that you must give it a try. It is part of the New York life experience!

Enjoyed a Great performance of Don Giovanni. Less impressed that audience were still being led to their seats when the performance started and that many got up to leave beforethe end as they spoil the performance for others.

Have been here twice now and love the impeccable quality of the productions. The opera house itself was actually a bit of a letdown as it was very different than I imagined. It oozes tradition and history but also shows signs of decay or subpar maintenance. But that is all forgotten when the curtain comes up and I will return for sure.

The performance was less than expected. Minnesota Opera at the Ordway is as good in performance and venue. Also, you can see five shows in Minne for the same price as one at Met. In addition, MN is a more enjoyable experience according to the my 18 year daughter and myself.

A night at the opera can be as elegant as you like. Seats are available at a wide variety of prices. The seating is quite comfortable and has a personal text screen with translations in a few languages (English, German and the language of the opera, as I recall). There is no dress code, but it is a great opportunity to break out stylish fashion. The Grand Tier restaurant is very good, and having a desert waiting for you at intermission is a special experience. There are at least two bars, and drinks can be pre-ordered for intermission to reduce time waiting in line. The opera house is beautiful and has great acoustics. The presentations are world-class with impressive sets, costumes, orchestra, and performers.

Such a beautiful Opera House and very large! Really comfortable seats and I like that they have a small screen on the back of the seat in front of you that has closed captions for you to read. It really helped a lot when I couldn't understand some of the words that the actors were saying when they were singing!

I'd always wanted to see an opera staged at the Met and recently I had the chance with this season's production of "Carmen." Our seats were in the balcony, pretty high up, but the sound from the singers and the live orchestra was wonderful. The performances from all involved - cast, orchestra, scenery, lighting, etc. was flawless....as if we were watching an edited movie. You expect to be impressed when pros perform, but the musicians of the Met are at the top tier of the world of professional music.
I noticed there was a place to the right (looking at the stage) of the Family Circle where you can sit at a desk outfitted with a study light and a music score for the opera, to follow along with the live performance. Online it looks like those tickets are only $12 but apparently you can only hear - not see - the performance. Still, I'd be interested in trying that sometime.
I also enjoyed observing the social spectacle of a night at the opera....attractive couples dressed to the nines posing for photos in the lobby, walking about the lobby (on each floor) with flutes of champagne, or a select few dining at the lengthy intermission at an elegant restaurant on the mezzanine lobby.

Absolutely stunning place to experience classical opera. Managed to score some rush tickets and had excellent Orchestra seating for a production of Turandot. The whole place feels opulent and impressive. For intermission you can enjoy the artworks and costumes on displace -- as of when I went, they have two massive Chagall murals which you can enjoy while you dine or drink from one of the bars (which has a few decent beers to choose from). Do yourself a favor and dress for the occasion -- you're attending an Opera!

I went to the Metropolitan Opera to see 'The Pearl Fishers.' The show was fantastic! The venue is pretty large and you can hear the performers pretty well. The seats also have a screen for translations.

For the first time we attended live opera. It was a great pleasure. I loved that you could have the option to press the buttons in front of your seat and see the translation. Helps to understand the opera and enjoy it more.

:Why does the 'blurb' you published with the world-wide transmission of LA FILLE DU REGIMENT say " Swiss Tyrol during First World War" Donizetti lived in the mid 1800s and we are talking French Napoleonic invasion of rest of Europe early 1800s. Tyrol IS NOT IN OR ever WAS PART OF SWITZERLAND but rather part of AUSTRIA. Pretty sad history knowledge of a prime outfit like the MET! - The performance itself WAS FABULOUS!

Romeo et Juliet is the one and only performance I have seen at the Met. I worked here for a short time years ago calling benefactors to give generously. When running an errand I made a wrong turn to find the ballerinas readying themselves for rehearsal. Years later I saw my first major league opera.

The Metropolitan Opera is world-renowned, a class act. Is a review really necessary? I don't think so, but I continue. The chandeliers descend and rise to notify patrons the performance is about to begin. Time to finish your wine served on the Mezzanine at intermission and gracefully make your way back to your seat. Guys can be graceful also you know. Some dance here.

My only disappointment: I was the only man in the house wearing a suit and tie. A mecca like the Met is a celebration itself regardless of the production on stage. I was taught to dress my best for such occasions. This theatre is so different from the New York State Theater next door on the Quadrangle which is more laid back. That is the "People's House. The Met is where the imaginary royalty reside.

I attended four operas in one year at the NYS Theater on various leaves from the military. It wasn't until recently that my visit here finally became a reality. It was unfortunate that after the final curtain we had to rush to a fine Italian restaurant in the Village, then catch a 6am flight out of LGA.

This is arguably, the finest opera house in the world that is immeasurably more glamorous than its sister venue facing north and I will never forget this special moment with my Sweetheart. Eight years later the Met and my Lady are still with me in spirit...as well as in reality here in New York.

Beautiful. That s all I need to say. All the opera s I ve seen were amazing the met Casts the right people and always have a amazing set and on top of all that they frequently challenge the art form of opera unlike many other opera houses .

Always amazed by the grandeur and beautiflly appointed Opera House, from the Chagal impressive paintings to the gorgeous chandeliers and comfy burgundy chairs, not to mention the new translation system, everything makes you feel welcomed.

The Metropolitan Opera House brings to life such glorious operas as La Boheme, Madama Butterfly, Turandot, Rigoletto, The Magic Flute and Porgy & Bess. It is also the NYC Home of the American Ballet Theater, with its sublime ballets: Swan Lake, Romeo & Juliet, Giselle Cinderella. There cannot be any more Magical place in New York City!

Saw the ballet and it was incredible. We saw Swan Lake and I would definitely recommend. We dressed up to go and even though others didn't, I would still encourage a little nicer dress. Would recommend to everyone.

Lincoln Center is a NYC landmark everyone should visit. All the buildings are lovely, but the Met is special and worth seeing even if you're not an opera fan. Great restaurant inside, excellent food.

Today was My first visit and it was amazing! Great history lesson on king tut's father, origin and his culture. It is incredible that although I am 2,500 miles away in Arizona viewing a live simulcast, it was as if I was actually there! BRAVO!!

There is something lovely to look at the house throughout the theater. 2. The seats have subtitles.3. The staging is spectacular. 4.the orchestra is top-notch. 5. Watching the lights dim and that chandelier s retract is simply amazing...even if you know nothing about opera. Go at least once in your life.

One of the best places to see opera. Not an intimate space though. Almost anything you see will be amazing. Best seats for sound are stalls (but not under overhang) and balcony. Prices are very reasonable for and there are rush seats. A must for opera lovers.

During a review of a dress rehearsal Verdi s Rigoletto. Prefer the older traditional set, but music is always the best ever.
