Breathtaking palace and architecture. It is really big.
Tip: buy a tour guide!
The gardens are beautiful but the musical fountains are plain ordinary fountains with music in background!
Magnificent just to look around the entrance. Cost money to come in past the entrance.
A magical fairytale castle. Grounds are incredible. A must!
Great piece of history . Have to have lots of time to savour the same
It was incredible to see! We wish we had planned more time to see more of the extensive gardens- would have done a full day instead of 4 hours. Having and audio guide for the house was really nice.
Interesting but expected.a little more in terms of room furnishings
I was here around 2002 and it was easy to buy a ticket and get in. I remember the line being about 30 yards long. My French Godmother would have none of that and just marched my children and I to the head of the line and in we went. No waiting! You can't be that bold any more. The line in June 2019 seemed like a half mile long and there was no cutting in line and that was for those who already had tickets! It took over an hour to get in. My recommendation is to book a timed entry and a tour. You won't have the wait and you'll see a lot more than in the self guided tour. Either way though, self guided or tour you'll enjoy yourself.
Queues were shocking. We did buy tickets in advance and after 1 hour and half had only moved one line with another 4 to go. Estimated queuing time was a total of 4 hours in blistering sunshine. We gave up after the hour and half as we would have only had an hour in the Palace before it closed.
I asked where I could request a refund to be told to press the refund button the website -which doesn't exsist! I wrote to request a refund of tickets and haven't even had a response to my email.
The place is extremely crowded. There are several entry lines and it is not quite clear which is yours. Not interesting inside. Park is usually free but when musical fountains give performance the park entry is EUR 8.
I would recommend visiting other Paris monuments.
This place is insane. The building is bigger than you could imagine. The garden/property is beautiful. Wish we had more time and better weather to walk around the whole property.
The castle itself is very beautiful, but too much people
Very beautiful palace. The rich history of the rooms matches the lavish decor. The gardens are huge! The only let down are the offerings in the gift shop.
Gorgeous monument. I wish they could keep it very clean.
Worth the day trip from Paris. This is an absolute must! The amount of ornate detail in every inch of this palace is so beautiful. And seeing how the royals lived so extravagantly while the public starved, one wonders why they didnt revolt sooner.
The state rooms are absolutely gorgeous, although staff let far too many people in at once, and you're going to be carried in a flood of people from room to room without much opportunity to truly appreciate the beauty of any one thing.
If you enjoy visiting gardens or nature, I'd suggest arriving upon opening, getting through the state rooms in one hour, and then spending the entire day in the extensive gardens. Fountains, mazes, sculptures, beds of color and miles of grass, this place has it all, and you'll never see it in entirety even with a full day.
Too crowded to be as impressive as intended. It's a seriously magnificent place but it the sheer volume of visitors detracts from its beauty. Would be better if visitors could go enter at times intervals or something like that.
A must see once in a lifetime! Everything has been preserved really well and the beauty and opulence is breathtaking and awe inspiring. BUT the crowds spoil the experience... prepare to be shoulder to shoulder with the crowds busy taking endless pictures And selfies! And because some passages are narrow, it takes a long time to move through with the crowds.
A must see for anyone visiting Paris. We took a guided tour in English for 10 Euros which was well worth it. Tickets for sale in a small office to the right of the entrance, up a short set of stairs. The garden grounds are vast and would benefit from signage to prevent needless walking when seeking the limited access points (exits).
What an amazing palace
A must go to see the splendid collection
Great place to visit, best way to learn about French Culture and History. Excellent maintenance. Great gardens. Highly recommended.
Of course Palatine was first, but Versalles still exists in one piece, a big big milestone in human kind history....
If people stopped taking selfies all the time you might be able to get round without shuffling along
Nice and historical....buy online tickets and avoid long long queue line
The palace is beautiful and well-preserved. Unfortunately we came in late around 2 PM and the long queue (this was early May) did not help. Then rain poured in the afternoon, dashing our chances of visiting the gardens. The lavatories were often too busy as well.
This is a must when visiting France. Very beautiful palace and well kept gardens. I suggest you pre purchase tickets as wait time in line is up to 2 hours. Once you are in I highly recommend hiring a canoe on the lake. Nice cafe as well on site.
Lots of history and beautiful paintings on the grounds, however if you re not that into the large building and lots of old rooms then the garden is free which presents a cheaper option that is quite nice and relaxing
Beautiful palace with huge gardens, nice place to spend the day, you can rent bikes or golf car to visit the gardens, also you can take a train from palace to Marie Antoinette estate, it cost between 4,30 to 8 euros.
It's quite underwhelming. Many parts really deserve to be renovated.
Beautiful place. Extremely busy in August and the queue jumping ticket doesn't work.....we queued doe 3 hrs with a pre paid ticket. But worth the wait.
Simply an amazing palace and probably the largest palace ive ever been to. When i went into the castle i was quite astounded by how big and nice it looked. But once i went outside, i was simply shocked. I totally underestimated how big this castle was. Every direction i looked i saw a vast and beautiful garden that stretched out as far as the eye could see. You wouldn't be able to explore the entire palace in one day.worth the two hour wait.
I wish I had more time to explore the gardens. This area is definitely in the must return again and again category for me.
I went to see the gardens, not inside the palace, and they are indeed very beautifull. I would leave it for a 2nd visit to Paris, maybe because of the Time it takes to go to Versailles and walking through the park...There Is so much to do in Paris!...so i think it's Better to go with time and also visit the palace
We spent the day in the garden, very beautiful experience! And had a picnic there too with the food we bought from the marker.
Queues are horrendously long. It's easy to get there on the train and the Palace is spectacular. The gardens even more so, but in order to see them in all their glory, you need to avoid the winter months, as the statues are wrapped up in a protective cover and the fountains are not working. Definitely worth a visit if you are in Paris.
The Hamlet of Marie Antoinette is the most serene and best part of the entire tour! A must!
Historic and wonderful place. The palace is full of beauty, each room has an extraordinary and unique pieces. But the gardens are huge and extraordinary.
Better come with a tour guide where they will bring you there by riding a bus and offer personal audio pen where you can listen to narration of the history of the rooms where you will be in.
Its a big palace, and quite hot during summer, so wear loose clothes. It can be especially hot in some of the rooms inside, but sometimes it can also get cool and windy.
The rooms inside are beautiful. The highlight will be the mirror hall. Some rooms are still under renovation.
There will also be paintings and sculptures of historical figures before you exit.
This was an amazing experience. I think the best part was definitely the gardens because the tourists get dispersed. The castle itself is beautiful, but it can get quite packed inside.
I purchased entry tickets online to skip the queue, and it saved a lot of time! The self-guided audio tour was very well done and allowed one the opportunity to savor a room prior to moving to the next. There are some readily visible rough spots where paint is peeling on window frames and window sills. Can't imagine what the upkeep and maintenance actually cost. France has so very many historical treasures and a limited budget, but I hope they can maintain the national treasures for generations to come.
WOW!!! If you think you know the definition of what luxury and extravagance is, your definition will surely be different after visiting this iconic palace in France. Be prepared to be "blown-away" at every turn; from the moment you step foot on the grounds you are greeted with these massive blinding gold wrought iron gates that protects the property. Once inside the gates, are many architecturally beautiful buildings, including the palace, that will be sure to please everyone. Furthermore, the many rooms of the buildings house the most elaborate collection of artwork, furniture, and fixtures I've every seen. This place is definitely a must-see while in France. Pictures and stories cannot do this place justice.
If you are in paris you have to visit this historical palace and gardens
INCREDIBLE experience, went during peak tourist experience so be prepared for hundreds of tourists taking pictures and shoving you inside the palace outside the palace is much more calming. buy tickets to avoid the line.
Super visit sadly not enough time to see the gardens. Excellent tour guide unfortunately too many people and it was very hot inside. Allocate at least a day to see everything and go when it is not hot.
Modest fixer-upper on the outskirts of Paris, four hundred bedrooms and one bath. Kitchen needs updating, but privacy fence is solid. Perfect retreat from the stresses of the city, spacious gardens. No onsite parking but generous stables across the street accommodate 1200 horses and carriages easily.
On our trip to Europe, this was by far our least favorite site to visit. We've been to many places prior to here on our 3 day trip in Europe. The line lived up to the reputation and we were in line for security for nearly 3 hours under the intense burning sun. When inside, a lot of rooms were empty. The hardwood floors were in paltry condition. The organization of the ticket checkers were horrible. Signage is poor for directions on where to line up for entrance, bathrooms, versus buying tickets. The garden was not impressive. Fountain musical show was pathetic for extra 9 Euros. Palace should be nicer for what they charge. Sorry Versailles, I was expecting a lot better.
Too full :D wear good shoes and bring water to stay fresh and be EARLY
Spectacular, historic and magnificent!
One visit is not enough to see everything. Beautiful gardens, palace...will definitely come back one day:)))
Important part of France's history as well as Europe history.
Beautiful! Lots to see, I would recommend to get the 2 days open ticket so you can come and go as you wish and also take the golf cart to go around the grounds of the gardens as it is massive, worth the money!
About a 3 hour line that snakes with a 30 minute ticket line wait. It has audio tour the goes through the palace with a gift shop and restraunt.very interesting and fun place with lots to see you can easily take up your day exploring its garden. The front where the line is on the right and left sides they have a small statue that spits water which is drinkable for you to drink or fill your water bottles up. Be prepared to be in the hot sun for a while when you are in line. Over rall I'd say it was worth the wait but the line is absurd, each stretch will take about 20 minutes to get through and depending on how many times it snakes back you could be there for days (sarcasm but it's pretty ridiculous.) I also advice to get your tickets before hand online the line is also pretty long but we were able to get them online in the line but the internet wasnt the greatest in that spot so it took a while to download.
Splendid royal palace and beautiful royal garden, unbelievable. Must see once.
Kind of crowded but in the afternoon there is no queue
Get there early and if you're doing a private tour, choose the first time slot of the day because the later it gets, the more crowded it gets. There's a lot of ground to cover so if you don't like walking, this isn't for you.
An absolute must visit! A wonderful place to be! The first Sunday of every month is free. So make sure to take advantage of that! And the wait time outside was only 40 minutes.
Incredible building that I feel I know intimately having watched the BBC TV drama of the same name. Regretfully, queues to get in were too long on this hot summer day so I ll have to visit another time.
Worth visiting. Especially the gardens and fountain show. Beware of booking the ticket in advance else end up in queue for hours.
The Chateau de Versailles is a must-do, and I'm glad I did it, but honestly, it's one of those things that I'd do once and never again. The crowds made the experience a bit underwelding and more exhausting than it should have been.
Let's be clear, it's breathtaking. But I was very disappointed with the upkeep and care of the palace and the grounds. There was dust and cobwebs all over the interior of the palace and a lot of it was closed off along with a lot of construction work which interfered with the experience, and of course pictures. In some random places there were just piles of junk in the corners, which I found quite shocking. The gardens were very boring, most of it was closed off, there were no flowers anywhere-only dirt paths and shrubbery, and none of the fountains were on at all. The standing water was growing awful amounts of algae which was breeding so many mosquitos and the smell was rancid. I know i read about this "fountain show" but I did not that that meant that everything would be pathetic while I was there. I was really, really disappointed. I've waited my entire life to see the gardens of Versailles and the experience I received was heartbreaking. And I was there in the High Season, so no excuse.
If jou have the opportunity to go , you have to go to Versailles. I LOVE !!! I wish more was open to visit !! If jou know about the history and all that happend you can look with a better eye .
The place was fantastic and wonderful ! However, I was total disgusted by the lady at the information counter near the exit. She was rude !!! My wife was asking for some information on the Jardine garden and she rudely asked my wife to see the direction. The only word is DISGUSTING. And i think there is a need to treat visitors and tourist and everyone with respect !!!!
Don't go early in the morning, it gets a lot more quiet up from 3pm. Enjoy the gardens, the grounds and the Petit Trianon first, maybe have a picnic with something bought at the local market, then go into the palace. It'll be a lot more quiet
Great place to spend the day, if you want to go to the castle , get there really early! The garden area is easy to access at any time
This is a beautiful place to see in Paris
Was build on poor people sacrifices, until the revolted. Beautiful gardens very overcrowded.
Wonderful palace with wonderful rooms and wonderful gardens. First you go into the palace. Audio guides are free. Wait for the WiFi icon to enter code and listen. After the palace, you must do gardens: there are many and wonderful, fountains, lakes, places for everyone. You can eat her too.
A must-see. 100+years of history doesn't sound like that much when you look at the competition for your time in Paris, but it helps you understand the tumultuous French Revolution.
The palace was beautiful. However, we got there at 9am and waited in line for 3 hours to get in. We bought the Paris Pass, but it didn't include a skip the line pass. We also didn't realize until we tried to leave that the metro tickets we bought in Paris don't work when leaving Versailles. We had to buy train tickets at Versailles to get back to Paris at 3.50 each.
An amazing day out not far from the city centre. Unfortunately, the queue was too long so I didn't enter the Palace but spent the whole afternoon exploring the palatial gardens. A must see on a trip to Paris.
Loved the palace such a beautiful place it's amazing! Sad that 2 days that we went there Marie Antoinette quarters were closed :(
A must go spot in France. Remember to purchase your time stamped ticket online. Better to book the earliest time slot to avoid huge lineup. Highly recommend to rent the bikes to ride around the massive garden! Meet a lovely elder lady who teaches at Science Po.
Stunning palace, gardens and apartments. Well worth a visit. Queues can be very long especially in high season. Would advise buying the priority pass or waiting till after 3pm to beat the queues. Also would recommend hiring one of the boats for a leisurely row on the lake.
Well worth the trip out there. Just don t forget to keep your train ticket before leaving the gate. Americans don t have this custom and lots of people get tickets for not having their tickets
A historic and beautiful place to visit. The palace itself is keeping too many gorgeous interiors but the Garden has a breathtaking beauty. Most recommended for visitors
Seemed totally surreal, the degree of wealth and opulence the French Royalty possessed! The gardens were equally impressive! Remember to pick up your entrance tickets in advance from the ticket office building immediately to the left of the main building where you enter. Otherwise, you'll have wasted 3 hours standing in the massive entrance line for nothing! Bathrooms are also located in the ticket office building. The gardens require no entrance fee. Bring an umbrella, b/c it's guaranteed to rain for at least 50% of the time while you're not-so-patiently standing in line for three hours in France...lol.
Another great day and must visit. We could have spent several days trying to see everything. Taking a tour avoids the long line to get in and gives exclusive access to areas not open to the public. Also take the tram to Trianon and Petit Trianon in order to see the most in a day.
Great place to visit with alot of art to admire. The lines are long but you should be okay. I've waited 1 hr total with ticket line. You can buy tickets from the automat. Just pass the waiting line to a small room where you can purchase them. Palace takes about 4 hours in a hurry and that is without the garden.
Terrible customer service, rude staff, not explanation given by the staff for an overcharge of 7 for the ticket ( 48 for two people!). Garden shut earlier because of an extra event in the night, so we had to leave at 5.30 and pay another 28 each for going back to the gardens at 8 pm.
A lovely historical place destroid by a terrible management.
Magnificent place and park. If you want to skip the horrendous waiting lines, order one of the guided tours online before getting there. The guides are very knowledgeable and you get to see less crowded piexes of the castle.
Queue was more than 2hr long and when we finally managed to get in it was way too overcrowded and poorly managed so it was very difficult to enjoy the palace properly. It is a beautiful places overall, but requires a better crowd control. Highly recommended getting skip the queue tickets if you are planning on visiting the palace.
Make sure you buy TIMED tickets from the official website! Don t risk waiting hours in queue. That way you can skip the long queue and head straight to Entrance A as I did at 9:00am and was ushered into the palace soon after. As you can see in my photo, the queue is massive even at this time.
I would also suggest you download the free official app that includes an audio guide. It really does help in explaining the history and so you will appreciate the palace and french monarchy s history a lot more.
