Superb Palace - some issues with organisation. The cafe / restaurant is a complete disaster - avoid at all costs!
Most of the iconic rooms are very crowded at all times, try a guided tour to see some rooms that aren't available publicly.

Dont buy a ticket in advance!!!! The queues are huge and are progressing very slow. There is only one control for the access and as expected very, very slow. Expect 3 hours of queuing.

500m of line to enter inside the castle. The garden has a separated fee in case you don't want to get the line to enter inside castle. Everything is beautiful and well done, I believe is not possible to know all garden and castle in just one day.

I bought a Paris Pass which included entrance to the Palace. It sucked the garden entrance was not included. The Palace Musee is spectacular and history extensive. Luved the experience!

Place is a wonder, truly marvellous and plain beautiful. The gardens are just sublime, we spent almost the entire day there. We also spent about 2 hours queuing up to get into the palace. So bear that in mind. Avoid Tuesday's and the weekends and I'm sure it would be perfect.

This is a beautiful place with amazing architecture. They do a very good job at teaching you the history of the place and the people who lived there. I recommend this place when traveling to Paris.

A lot of walking. The palace we moved through far too quickly as we had a timed tour and were worried about how long it would take for the gardens. We walked everywhere. We went to the hamlet. It was everything we hoped for! We did not find the musical gardens until late in the day and missed one entirely. That was our own fault...and the guide never mentioned them. We did catch the end of Neptune and saw the one that runs all day. It was a wonderful trip.

If you don't want to stand in the line longer than it should be, please buy tickets online in advance, otherwise the waiting is too long. Don't be discouraged when you come in rainy day, it is the best!! You have breathy chill you have wind you have less UVA UVB but the beauty and fun is no less. We give ourselves 6 hours in this palace, visiting almost everywhere on the map, even the pouring rain didn't stop us nor other tourists, obviously. It is absolutely necessary to come visit at least once in your life.
This place made you realized that sometimes you need somebody, like the Louis, the kings, that aggressive, stubborn, ambitious, perfectionist, and in power to insist on what they believe, so that the architectures like this would exist and last long. A toutes les gloiries de la france, indeed. The glory of the kings eventually becomes glory of the country and its people.

Versailles is beautiful, ornate, and spectacular but that all gets lost in the sea of people you will have to wade through to get around. We purchased a Museum Pass which included access to the palace, but we still had to stand in line for over an hour and a half just to get inside. Once inside, you're elbow to elbow with the thousands of others trying to see the rooms and learn the history of the palace. It may be worth it to purchase a timed entry to avoid the line, but unless you get there when they open, be prepared for a claustrophobic experience.

Just amazing - a must visit place for anyone from anywhere. It really does make one appreciate why the French revolution happened. Note: if you buy pre paid tickets make sure to head for the top left, as you enter, the courtyard - that's where the entrance for you is....

Beautiful palace and grounds...a must see when in Paris. Just know, the crowd of people here is absolutely insane. Go first thing in the morning by taking the versailles express, which leaves from near the Eiffel Tower. I suggest doing a power tour, blast through the palace and walk around the grounds in three hours and hop on the noon return express back to Paris.

Great historical place to visit, amazing architecture, interior and huge garden, I recommend renting a golf car if you wanna gain time since visiting the palace of versailles takes a lot of time. If you're a fan of photography this is the place to be

A truly amazing place that you just have to see to believe. Just plan an entire day for it and plan on huge crowds and waiting in line as you slowly make your way around. Bring your patience and camera.

One time visit... How to reach this place... From Saint Lazare station buy tickets at the machine... It's cost us 4.45 euros in Aout 2019 per person ... If you have Navigo pass then no need to buy tickets...
Next catch train which goes to Versailles Rive Driot... This is the last stop...
Train journey is very comfortable and reaches destination in 35 mins...
After you get down this station... The palace is just 15mins walk away... Well even buses also take same time as it will drop you 800mts from palace...

Cost more than the Louvre with a great deal less to it and a separate fee for the gardens because there's some music thing going on. There's nothing special about it and I spent probably 3 times more time waiting on line than I did walking through it. If like me you've already been to the Louvre skip the palace and just go to the gardens.

Edit. Gardens weren't great either, the music show was speakers and a fountain water show. Amusing for a couple minutes nothing more. Want your money's worth rent a bike and ride around the Grand Canal then buy a coke from one of the buskers at the front, cause that's where I got the most genuine enjoyment.

Beautiful! So elegant and such rich history here. A wonderful place to have a picnic and spend time with loved ones or even just taking time for yourself.

I suggest taking the guided tour, our tour guide (I think her name was Martine?) Was amazing. I love how much she knew and she shared so much history! I wish the tour was longer.

Beautiful, extraordinary estate and expansive, beautiful grounds. However, it was waaaay too busy and hot at the beginning of July. And the gardens were terrible... Dry, wilted, filled with weeds and clearly not upkept. Also lots of ugly construction/renovation barriers around the area. The train back was confusing and took forever to arrive. We almost got lost. Disappointing overall. Wouldn't go back a second time.

Breathtakingly beautiful, pictures cannot do this place justice, however facilities are poor - washrooms often only have 1 stall with long lines, finding a bottle of water wasn't easy (although restaurants are located at the exit but I wouldn't know that the first time I'm there).

Beatiful Palace. Make sure to get here early....we got there around 10am and with advance tickets still had to wait 1.5hrs to get in. The palace itself was very crowded which kind of took away from our experience. The gardens however were gorgeous and well worth the trip. Make sure to pack a lunch so you can have a picnic in the gardens...no issues with bringing in outside food/a refreshing beverage.

Wow! Such a beautiful place. Nice to get away from the bustle of Paris. Give yourself at least a full day though in order to see Marie Antoinette's chateau as well as the palace and grounds.

Great...shouldn't miss, but probably best in spring or early fall. Was there in February. No crowds but no fountains either, and I got the sense that you lose access to things in the off season as they take advantage of the time to fix things up as necessary.

Was very impressive, including the gardens, even though we went in the winter. We bought our tickets online the night before and showed up around 10am and didn't have to wait too long in line. Apparently it was a good day because we heard staff say it's usually more crowded than that on a Sunday. Used the free Rick Steves audio guide, which wasn't quite as long as the audio guide they offer for free on their official app. Very delicious lunch on the grounds that was served very quickly, but it filled up around 1pm or 1:30pm so if you don't want to wait, go a bit earlier to eat.

This place is awesome!!! I highly recommend spending a lot of time in the garden and do that first before fighting the crowds in the palace. Also do the night show as well! Highly recommend, it s every Saturday night in the summer.

A must visit while in Paris. It takes about 1 hour by train to reach from central Paris and Palace is at a short walk from train station. Please buy tickets in advance, else you stand in queue for hours. Inside the palace a complimentary audio guide is provided which is great, expect crowded palace while viewing, i mean really crowde. Gardens on a sunny day are a must visit, especially on specific days when they start the fountain. The garden is huge, especially if you are going the Trianon. The palace provides option of hop-on hop-off golf train at a fee. Pay the fee if you want to see entire garden. It s would be good idea to take some picnic with you. Empty your bladder before you enter garden, facilities are minimum and far.

Extraordinary! A truly opulent and magnificent place. We unfortunately went with a tour group that had a "half day" trip that only resulted in 2 1/2 hours of time on the property. Easily could have spent days there. Inside the palace is beautiful and the gardens are amazing. Did not really get to see much of the outer buildings, but have heard good things and hope to go back. One thing to note is that the fountains on the property are only running on weekends.

This is a very special place and a must see when in the Paris area. Home of Louis XIV. The gardens are spectacular. Suggestion - hire a guide and book an entry time. You will get so much more from the experience and you will not waste hours waiting on line. Easy access by train from Paris - more than a Metro ticket is needed.

I can't speak for all year around, but having gone during the summer the place is a tourist trap, and there is quite poor management of the masses of people trying to enter. In my case, I had to wait almost 3 hours through a zigzagging line, to finally make it in and still be crowded by people during the tour. Its not to say that what's inside isn't worth seeing, but you would likely be better off skipping this and spending your time doing something more valuable around Versailles or Paris.

One more thing I found funny, is that if there could have been a reservation based system to enter, or even numbered tickets to wait on, people wouldnt have to wait in lines, and could be for example shopping in town.

Not sure if it was worth it. We spent 2 hours in the entrance line although we already got our tickets online! If you want to visit there, get there at 9 in the morning. The palace was okay, but the garden was gorgeous.
One tip: We got to know that part of the garden has another entrance and it is for free for public. If you enter from there, you can show your tickets and get to the other part of the garden which is not free and you can go to the palace from there without spending hours in the line from the main entrance!

Spectacular French history but too many pushy people. Particularly annoying were the tour guides who pushed their way to the front of the small rooms while a throng of lemmings follow her flag on a stick with their transistor radios transmitting the foreign language of choice. It seems the palace staff could better pace the number of people as they flow through the rooms.

Of note, buy a ticket with an hour of entry before you arrive otherwise you ll be waiting in 2-hour, 500 person line. With your pre-paid ticket go to the left of the massive line at entry point B, show your ticket (we had 10am entry) and you ll blow past the hundreds of tourists waiting in line.

We loved to history of the Palace of Versailles, the beautiful gardens, outer buildings, fountains and even the restaurant was tasty. Fun day but expect moments of annoyance and frustration with your fellow humans/tourists.

Over the top gold and mirrors every where. More rooms than you could count, but not all open to the public.

The grounds take at least a half a day by themselves.

Here's the thing. Versailles is far too crowded in the summer, but during the rest of the year there are so many school groups that it still feels crowded. The fountains are turned off, the trees in planters are taken in and the statues are covered up at the end of October.

Go anyway. Go also to Chantilly. It is near the airport. CDG.
