The palace, the garden and the history behind this place are amazing. But the shall find the best way how to avoid people waiting in line for more than 2 hrs to get inside especially on the busy weekend.

Okay so the castle is like a 3/5 for me, as I don't really care about the history of the ART but rather the history of the PEOPLE and the HUGE PALACE YOU ARE STANDING IN! The audio guide was quite odd in giving short notes on the paintings and such, which did not interest me. I have been here before and it was much less busy this time, in October.

Still, it was quite crazy in lots of the rooms and it made me feel quite claustrophobic. The rooms are in excellent shape however, I just wish I could properly see them in an empty setting (one can dream).

The gardens however, are soooooo so so much cooler. They are absolutely gigantic and stretch on for what seems like an eternity. The scenery is epic and the price is fair at ~10 euros. Running around and discovering the different fountains was a blast. It was a lot of fun to adventure around in. I thought I would spend 3-4 hours at the Palace & Gardens, but I spent 7 lol.

Oh and by the way, the line for this place in silly. Even if you get "Skip the Line" tickets you will have to wait, albeit much shorter, it is still a wait.

Beautiful peace of the French history. The castle has been completely restored and it must a see in Paris. The site is so huge that you could spend the full day. You can even rente electrical car for 34 Euros per hour and bikes for 10 Euros per hour. However the personal is completely useless and the management is ineffective. The director should be fired, he has no idea on how to manage a castle in the 21st century...Lots of Asian people who have no idea what Versailles means...and are only there to take millions of photos instead of taking 2 minutes to understand the history of the country that they are visiting...quiet annoying to see millions of phones instead of seeing people reading or listening..audio guides are free ;-)

It was terrible because they made us wait for 3 hours in rain. Because there is only one x-ray machine they made is wait in a huge line. If it should be a great experience.people need to go on weekdays not weekends because it will be extremely crowded, once you see the louvre you will start comparing the palace of Versailles with it then it won't be good or else it was kind of bad experience.

Arrive early, start queuing from 08.30 otherwise the coach groups will be way ahead of you. Tuesday's extremely busy. Arriving early enables you to see the rooms virtually empty of people, a short time later and it gets jam packed.

This is a must if you are in Paris. Very easy acceccable by commuter train from Paris and 10 min walk to the chateau from Versailles train station. A very "grande" castle that is incredibly detailed in every way with by then luxurious but also nowadays standard. The sheer size can make you get lost. The gardens are even bigger and it takes a long time to see even the fraction of it. The chateau have also beautiful souvenir shops.

The palace itself is amazing and the well maintained gardens are absolutely spectacular. Can take the whole day if you wish to visit everything. So much history in this place, absolutely magnificent! It was the highlight of our visit to Paris. However, be patient and book your tickets online in order to avoid the lengthy queue. Also, be prepared for long walks if you want to enjoy the stunning gardens.

We were very interested in what we saw, but were disappointed that so many areas of the Trianon and Le Petit Trianon were only open to tour groups, not individuals. We recommend that the room numbers be placed at a height that enables us to see it without having to fight our way to the front.

We waiting 5 minutes to get in while other without tickets said they waited 3 hours. Picture of the line below.

Versailles is a must see place if you are in Paris and you have a day to spare. Between visiting the palace and the gardens, be prepared to spend the entire day walking and being amazed by what the place has to offer. You can get there by train from Paris (Gare Montparnasse) in around 30 minutes, and take a walk around town: it's a very beautiful place to visit. I went there un winter, and I wanna go back there during the spring. A sandwich, a candy bar and a bottle of water will be of great use, since you will probably be walking de whole day.

Very crowded and not as spectacular as I had expected. The Hall of Mirrors is amazing but the other rooms are not. The gardens are good for wandering and relaxing after the very crowded interior.

Wow! Though most of the original palace was destroyed during the French revolution, this is still worth a visit. We took a train from Paris to Versailles which was about 20 mins or less in duration. Once you get off the train the palace is about a 10 minute walk. We arrived before 9 AM (when the chateau opens) and there was already a long line about 3/4 of the way down the cobble stoned entrance. We waited in line for nearly 50 minutes. This was the length of the line even though we previously purchased our tickets online. The palace gets very busy! I used a free audio tour from Rick Steves audio guides Europe app. They also offer audio guides included with your ticket. We were able to see the Opera room on the ground floor but the majority of the tour was on the second floor. Rooms that have areas roped off, can become very crowded! I found it was useful to walk along the back wall or to walk to the end of the room and then look along the edge of the roped off areas. The crowd tends to bottleneck at the entrance of the rooms. We went on a Tuesday, when the Music fountain show runs in the Garden (when you have to pay to visit the Garden). We were there for over an hour and never saw a fountain show. The Gardens are beautiful but not worth paying 9.50 of the fountain show doesn't run.

A palace that lives up to its name and how about it. A definite must see! Beginning of winter, during the week is not as crowded, making it a more enjoyable experience. But the tickets online from the official website, helps skip one queue.

The gardens are extensive, after spending a couple of hours in the main palace it's great to take train tickets to see other major attractions throughout.

I went on a day where it was rainy and muddy and my 1 year old was sick and cranky. Still couldn't take away from the amazing beauty and historical value that Versailles offers. The gardens are vast and amazing.

The house is amazing as well, but I will say that while what is available is nice, a majority of the house is not seen. For me this is disappointing as I am a history buff and the history of the house is what interests me most.

Kind of a let down to be honest. Maybe I just had high expectations after reading about it and learning about it in Art History way back in college. Once there, waiting in line on a sunny, 90 degree day with no shade for over an hour just to see a whole lot of empty rooms was a complete buzzkill. The hall of mirrors and the Crusades rooms were both standouts - as were the magnificent gardens. The rest was just 'ok', and that's not okay for a World Heritage site.

Gardens are spectacular and I could see how it could be great. However, on the day (Sunday, Feb 19) we went half of the palace was closed including the information and history of the palace section leaving us to do our own research/homework yet they still charged full price.

I visited Versailles palace and gardens over 30 years ago and was really awed by its history and beauty. Fast forward 30 years and now, at least during the Summer months, the place is basically overrun by tourists. To us, very unfortunately, Versailles palace and gardens now somewhat has the feel of a tourist trap. There are other, more accessible places in Paris and surrounding areas to learn about and take in the feel of the history of French aristocracy.

It's huge, it's extravagant, it's bigger than you'd ever imagined. We walked 10+ miles on the grounds of Versailles and still didn't see everything. Don't restrict yourself to the main palace! There's so much to see.

Once you have made it through the lines of all lines, ranging from 30 minutes to over an hour, the experience is relatively solid. The audio tour is very well-timed with the walking tour, typically you are not left in rooms for a prolonged period. With that said, the estate rooms/halls get congested, which can be unbearable at times. Once you're outside the palace, everything changes! It becomes apparent that the Palace of Versailles is a monstrosity. Be prepared to spend at least 5 - 6 hours here, if you want to explore all of the lodges, estates, and gardens. When you've completed the entire grounds, you'll probably blow out your shoes. There are golf carts and bicycles for adults and children available for rent, as well. The Palace of Versailles is iconic, it must be on your France travel itinerary! Arrive early to encapsulate this generational masterpiece fully.

Worst experience in France. All except for a petite lady who was helping out people by the line, all other ( more than a dozen) were so arrogant and rude. What is up with these Parisians with their eye rolling?? They have a job because we are there!! We had people specifically target Asian tourist to cut in front of after about 45 minutes of waiting. When confronted, they said "welcome to Paris" and laughed. No other French speaking people would do anything!! They all saw it. This happened two different times. There are no monitors to catch these people. We are taking a line that is a mile long! When I informed the staff at the entrance, they couldn't care less. This experience topped it off all of other sour services we received from must see sites. We have written off Paris forever. I thought if we try to greet and use much French as possible, and the rumors weren't true, but I found out, they are just so unappreciative and plainly rude. I guess they have no pride in representing their country. Because, there are fools like us rolling in every second.

Everything about this place is pretty incredible. The courtyards, garden, the architecture, all equally amazing. Not all of the Palace is open at once it appears so it seems like you will have to make multiple visits during different times in order to see all what it has to offer. You will find a restaurant and a few shops here as well. Definitely worth a visit, and I would recommend visiting in the spring time so you can witness the expansive garden in bloom. No noticeable accessibility issues here, though you might have to travel further to find the lifts.

Worth the train ride from Paris. Absolutely stunning palace, but the real joy is wandering around the grounds. If the weather's right, grab a bike and head out to the Trianon + Marie Antoinette's little hamlet - it's a beautiful area and the setting is just breathtaking, in a garden about the size of my home city.

It's a beautiful place but it's huge! They charge you 7.50 euro for the shuttle if you don't want to walk forever between places.

Downstairs palace rooms admission closes so early. The main info centre person told us it should still be open (asked a few minutes before 2pm) but the other person near the gate told us otherwise.

While it's good to have English explanations about the paintings and history in some rooms, a lot of the text have faded and not readable anymore.

You can t help but feel the weight of history as you walk through the gates. The best thing to visit is to book a guide otherwise you will have to queue with all the tourist in the morning and yes there are a lot... we arrived at 8:30 am and already the mass of visitors was daunting... but with a guide you skip the queue. The best service to visit is the boutique versailles tour where you can visit alone the private apartment of Louis XV and Louis xvi without having all the crowd.

A great place to see when you would like to get the feeling of a true palace like the ones in the movies. The gardens are also a true jewel and there is a mini train tour if you don t want to spend hours(!) to explore them. The mini train ticket was 8 . The only disappointment was that we had to wait ~1 hour in the line even if we already had tickets.

I found it way too crowded, people were really packed in, one of the children in our group got a bloody nose from a careless fellow tourist. Strongly recommend against going inside if claustrophobic or just shy about personal space. Choose the gardens instead.

Palace is obviously historical and amazing to walk through, but it is CROWDED! The hall of mirrors is quite a site, but we really enjoyed the other areas of the estate, especially the village and the grand canal (rent a rowboat!).

The most fabulous and opulent, living structure in the world, thank you King Louis the fourteenth, for being so vain. This massive house, sitting on 2000 acres of hunting lodge, will send you into awe. He was able to enjoy it, living to the ripe old age of 77, when the average life span was in the thirties, an impressive run. The grounds will not disappoint.

We were in Versaille with children aged 8,10 and 12 just before the 1st of May 2019. I attach a photo in front of the entrance for others to see the waiting line. We went straightaway to the gardens which entrance is on the far left side and where actually you can buy a ticket for the gardens very quickly. I suggest to do this first because for us this was better than the indoors of the place. Furthermore, it is cheaper and really something else to see. Inside is pretty much like in other similar places, just very crowded and not comfortable, yes, lots of nice art work but we did not find that fascinating as we were previously to similar places. But gardens are a must see. Now, a tip - on the far right side of the entrance, there is an entrance for unguided groups. The tickets for children are free and much cheaper for adults, you just need to find a group and you can save a lot. We learned that when it was late but hopefully somebody will learn something from our mistakes.

Very cool place, but you have to pay extra to see the gardens which to me is a bit of a rip-off. It is also somewhat easy to get lost and the majority of descriptions aren't in English. However, it's a sight I don't regret seeing- beautiful restored furniture, so many statues, paintings, chandeliers... You can definitely see the inspiration for Beauty and the Beast and it is something else in it's grandiose sense of "extra" that even exceeds your expectations. The chapel for me was one of the prettiest, if not the prettiest, sights in France.

Warning. Buy tickets to Versailles, do not use your Metro tickets, no one will tell you that and they will fine everyone 35 Euros on the last stop. Seems like a tourist trap! And it kinda takes the air out of the Palace visit.

If you're under 26 and are a citizen of Europe, entry is free. Please reserve otherwise. Try getting into the queue before 9am since the crowd gets bezerk soon. Get Audioguides if you don't speak French or just download the app for free audioguides.

This is an interesting tour and a must see if you have enough time in Paris. You should definitely plan ahead of your visit if this is on your to-do list. For one it's about an hour away from the city so either you get a tour that includes the transportation or expect to take the Metro and an additional line. Will take you almost within five minute walking distance of the palace in my opinion totally worth it it saves a lot of money too. Your planning should also include your ticket ahead of time so you don't have to make the queue to buy the ticket but be warned just because you have the ticket does not mean you won't be making a line I think it all depends on what time you arrive there we arrived closer to midday and the line was horrible I would guess about 2 hours I think if you arrived earlier it might not be that bad. If you're going in the summer I would totally recommend getting the additional garden show ticket because by far what we enjoyed the most was the gardens they are gorgeous.
