Let's be clear, it's breathtaking. But I was very disappointed with the upkeep and care of the palace and the grounds. There was dust and cobwebs all over the interior of the palace and a lot of it was closed off along with a lot of construction work which interfered with the experience, and of course pictures. In some random places there were just piles of junk in the corners, which I found quite shocking. The gardens were very boring, most of it was closed off, there were no flowers anywhere-only dirt paths and shrubbery, and none of the fountains were on at all. The standing water was growing awful amounts of algae which was breeding so many mosquitos and the smell was rancid. I know i read about this "fountain show" but I did not that that meant that everything would be pathetic while I was there. I was really, really disappointed. I've waited my entire life to see the gardens of Versailles and the experience I received was heartbreaking. And I was there in the High Season, so no excuse.
