The state rooms are absolutely gorgeous, although staff let far too many people in at once, and you're going to be carried in a flood of people from room to room without much opportunity to truly appreciate the beauty of any one thing.

If you enjoy visiting gardens or nature, I'd suggest arriving upon opening, getting through the state rooms in one hour, and then spending the entire day in the extensive gardens. Fountains, mazes, sculptures, beds of color and miles of grass, this place has it all, and you'll never see it in entirety even with a full day.
