We booked on Expedia for a very affordable price. The hotel is in a central location, walking distance to many restaurants and theaters. Also to minute walk to Arlington Metro station and Boston Common. We arrived to the hotel at 9am and was given a room right away (though check-in begins at 3pm).
After being in the room for a half hour we realized the room was not getting warm even though the heat setting was at it's highest. We called for maintenance who suggested we give it a bit more time to kick in. We left for about three hours and to our dismay when we returned the room was still very cold. The maintenance gentleman tried a few things before finally just bringing us a space heater which we used for the duration of our two night trip.
My only true complaint about the hotel is the closing of room doors, which when you are inside your room it sounds as though someone is forcefully slamming doors outside.
The hotel itself is very beautiful, spacious and accommodating. Great modern decor and friendly staff. There is a little shop downstairs where you can buy snacks, toiletries etc. Aside from the connected restaurant (Strip) there is a cafe like area in the lobby with a full bar where you can get drinks including coffee and tea and light fare.
Aside from the cold room situation I would stay here again.
Small but comfortable room, bathroom was also small. Fridge was not working, TV with Chromecast was great. Service was also good and they allowed us to check in our bags for free for the day after check out.
Nice hotel for a fancy event. Good location on the commons!
I had a bad experience with the hotel, just because I booked with Priceline Express.
Friendly and super helpful staff. Hotel was renovated a few years ago and is really worth checking out
Really well staffed and positioned hotel. Rooms a bit small but the restaurant is good and Starbucks is right there. The gym is amazing and fully equipped.
Everything was great. Especially the chocolate lava cake with ice cream I ordered two nights! Kathy Frederic of the event staff is an amazing ambassador for the company.
This place is worth a stop for the following reasons:
1. Historic: Nationally registered hotel landmark with really cool flat iron history.
2. Location: Centrally located to everything in/near the Gov't district and parks of Boston.
3. Rates: very reasonable weekday rates for business and leisure travelers.
Some detracting features include: rooms have some noticeably aging aspects, bathroom is old, many of the views are drab as they look into the interior of the courtyard.
Aweful. Very very small room!!!. So expensive. I dont recommmend this hotel.
Location was beyond beautiful and our company Christmas party was well-staffed. Only thing preventing a 5 was the food was a little cold.
Great location. But Jesus Christ - I ve never been in a smaller room. Imagine a very small room - these rooms are smaller !!! Walls are very thin - can hear everything in the adjacent room. Limited amenities in the room. They also charge a facilities fee of $20 for no apparent reason other than getting WiFi.
Great location. Super friendly, kind and helpful staff. I mean Incredibly friendly. The house keepers are wonderful. The front desk staff wonderful! We Are high maintenance family of four and they just were so kind and accommodating to us.
Starbucks connected to hotel and a full
Gym. A full huge gym with free weights, squat racks, bench s, cables ect. If you lift weights this is by far the best hotel gym! Most everything is walkable from here.
Great hotel. Rooms are small, but location is incredible!
Too classy for me. Though rooms can be a bit small, and drafty on a winter night. Excellent attached Starbucks.
Had breakfast there yesterday. Service was slow and indifferent. Go to a diner and get better food and service for fraction of price.
Very small room, small bathroom ... For the many money you could maybe ask for more ...
We attended a very large wedding. A lot of elderly attended and there was not great handicap access to the second floor with all of the festivities were taking place. The ceremony was pretty long because of all of the different traditions however the seats there were small and uncomfortable wooden chairs and I got a splinter in my finger. It was a cold night and there was no coat check room so we had to carry around our big wool and fur coats from the ceremony to the cocktail hour in the next room and then the main dining room for the reception. They could have put a couple of portable coat racks for people to hang up their coats and have a more relaxing time. Not many people enjoyed the main entrees either. The cocktail reception appetizers were very good especially the spicy tomato soup. All the desserts were delicious as well. The actual wedding room was pretty bland but the seated reception hall was gorgeous! High ceilings, the lighting, it was just beautiful!
Pay attention to your reviews and the feedback you're receiving. It doesn't matter how many times you say the facility fee is a "standard fee" for certain amenities. It is clearly a poorly conceived idea, and it bothers a lot of your guests. Just raise your room prices accordingly, nobody enjoys surprise charges. As far as the hotel itself, the lobby is gorgeous. Seriously impressed with that, and there are great bars/restaurants right there. Unfortunately, the rooms and hallways don't quite match. If you're an American, the rooms are going to feel tiny. There's space for a bed, and that's about it. Bathrooms are small to the point of not having any counter space. Not as clean as you would expect either, the shower was kind of gross and the grout was dirty and brown. Overall, I wouldn't recommend staying here. Definitely worth grabbing a drink at the lobby bar though!
Great service and location. Rooms are a little small but very comfortable.
Not worth the money at all. Here on vacation with wife and granddaughter. Wanted to stay at a few spots in Boston to make walking to sights easier. This was the least nicest and the others were chains. Very small rooms, clean, but very small. Even paying the Resort fee, or what ever they called it, could not get internet signal. TV service was shut off by the time we woke up at 7:30. They only gave us 3 towels and one wash cloth and 2 hand towels. Ring in the toilet. No outlets near a mirror so the wife had NO MIRROR FOR CURLING IRON or makeup unless she stood on the wet floor from the toilet leak. Thank God she packed a mirror! I also didn't tell the Mrs. that the two glasses of wine I brought up to the room last night cost $55.
For the $500 or whatever this is going to cost me when I check out in a few minutes, Park Plaza is not worth it. Maybe at half the price. Otherwise, I would go somewhere else. I will say that the Irish pub next door was a bright spot.
Very modern hotel. Great location. Central to the T and many great restaurants.
Located near arrlington station, Park plaza is a beautiful, modern hotel that offers some of the best comfort in the city. However the rooms are small.
Rude and impatient employees, very overpriced for what you get (rooms look like every average hotel), the thing I was excited for was their gym (which is very nice) however , it is open during the hours people are out and about and closed in the evenings when people are ready to lift
The hotel very well, classic modernized, but the standard rooms are shoe boxes. Lowercase.
I'm going to preface this by saying that I don't like writing bad reviews. I usually won't. I reward good places with good reviews and leave the bad alone... but in this case... I can't stay quiet...
Our first sign of trouble was the parking. Our options were either valet by the hotel, which was expensive, or $31/night at the HORRIBLE and honestly dangerous (for your car) garage next door. You drive in, and the passageways are so narrow, you can see the scars on the wall where numerous cars have been damaged by scraping against it while trying to turn. I drove the slowest I've ever driven, fearing for my car. I drive a sedan... Respect to anyone who can pull this off in an SUV...
Did not know that this place was under construction, had I, I would not have stayed there. It was a mess. The luxurious lobby you see on their site is not what you see when you walk in. Now I get that renovations are needed and who's to argue, but they could at least give people a heads-up about it on their website so that people going there for romantic weekends or other non-business trips would know what they're getting into.
Credit to the checkin staff. They were helpful and very nice. It was the one bright spot that actually made me think, 'Okay, maybe the worst is behind us...'
Yeah... not quite...
The rooms are not what you see on the site. They are tiny, and the furniture is not arranged the same way... there is virtually no walking space in the room, the closet barely clears the bed when you open it. The hallway between the entryway and the bathroom was so narrow, I had to walk slightly at an angle to get in with baggage. There were wires running across one side of the room like a bypass/jury rig job to get the TV hooked up... which you couldn't see if you were laying down because it was obstructed by the lamp on the nightstand (which by the way is only on one side of the bed, there isn't enough room for two nightstands).
Going down the hallway to get to our room, the doors to the rooms looked filthy and one was falling apart to the point where you could see through cracks into the room and when we got to our room, the key didn't initially work. Every time we went in or out, it took multiple swipes.
The walls were paper thin and I'm not sure if I was hearing construction from downstairs or pipes in the wall, but given that it was going on late at night and we were up on the 11th floor, I'm hoping that it was the pipes.
The bathroom... where do I get started. My walk-in closet at home is bigger (no, I'm not kidding). The sink and the vanity (if you can call it that) are right there the moment you open the door. There is roughly 3 square feet of walking space in the bathroom. The toilet has no tank, it looks like a public restroom toilet... and is loud enough to be heard out in the hallway when flushed. I've never seen anything so crammed in my life.
The bed... well it said it was a queen size better, but I'm not so sure. My wife and I sleep on a queen and this didn't seem as big to us at all. The mattress was also quite uncomfortable.
One of the elevators we were on shook whenever it stopped. It looks like it may be in need of renovation.
Honestly, I'm okay with old and small hotel rooms, I stayed at Omni Parker last year and had a fine time. It was a pleasant stay. I could have honestly overlooked the small bathroom had the room itself been better or had it been cheaper. I got a group rate and stayed here for the pax event, but even after that, I felt ripped off... If you stay here, travel light, there is literally no room for luggage unless you throw it on top of the cabinet.
Like I said, I don't like leaving overly negative reviews, I'm not a negative person, but I could not overlook this and honestly, pleasant staff are simply not enough to rise this above 1 star status. Maybe they have something big in mind once the renovations are complete, but at this point, staying there was anything but pleasant.
Beautiful lobby but small rooms. May not be the best place to casually hang out. The library is very cozy & well decorated, nice place to relax.
Wonderful, it was a fantastic experience, a relaxing environment and a natural air that relieves the mind. I recommend it to anyone who likes to be with nature, in peace and in a safe and splendid environment.
Room was small, but clean. Could use a little maintenance as mentioned by other reviewers. Good location.
It may be because of the time of year we visited, but the price seemed a bit expensive IMO.
They lose the stuff in lost and found. Make sure you double check while checking out.
Thank you for also posting a canned reply rather than offering to investigate what happened!
My stay here was mostly acceptable, but not fantastic. The hotel itself is clean and appears well-kept, and the employees were helpful when approached, but I found it lacking in a number of things that visits to other hotels over the years have made a standard part of their services.
I may be spoiled, but I don't recall the last time I was required to pay for internet connections for use within my room. In this day and age, a hotel catering to business travelers will typically offer wifi services (at least those I usually stay at). Instead, one had to use the lobby wifi or go to Starbucks to get connected. In-room access will cost you $12 (speeds appropriate for email, not streaming or surfing media sites) or more a day. Perhaps it is the fault of the event organizers, but I was not provided wifi access during the conference I attended, although it seemed to be available. Keep this in mind if you want to stream your own media (even those movies or shows saved to your devices) to the in-room television.
Food offerings in-hotel were exorbitantly priced compared to nearby restaurants, often 2-3 times what it would cost to walk 3-5 blocks and eat at a pub. This is not so much a criticism, as it is a warning for travelers planning to eat at the hotel. There is no continental breakfast offered, nor in-room coffee (aside from the $8 carafe you can order).
It should also be noted that there is no shuttle service between the airport and the hotel. Again, this is often a standard service for places I have stayed at that are close to the airport.
All in all, for the prices charged by the hotel, I would expect much more. I've stayed at hotels for half the rate and had many more amenities than I had staying here. I'd probably consider staying elsewhere if I needed to go to attend an event in Boston in the future.
Nice, comfortable rooms. What really put it over the top for me was the ease of being able to stream Netflix from my phone to the TV.
Excellent location in the city. Walking distance to most of Boston's sight and food. Rooms ranges from very small to large so be aware before booking. But it's more then sufficiently equiped for your nights stay.
Don't let the facade fool you. This place looks fancy and has the look in the lobby to draw you in but the hotel room is so small that even the lady at the front desk recommended I get a king size instead of 2 queens because it is so tight.
Came back that night from a night out and wanted to find out about the shuttle to the hotel that was presented as an ammenity through Google. The night shift guy behind the desk was rude in his response by saying they did not provide a shuttle and that whatever site I got the info from was a lie. Very horrible approach to a consumer. Definitely will not be back.
The hotel was fantastic and absolutely worth the bite sized room.
I went because I had a promotion party. I loved the place. The music played well and the decorations were beautiful. A little slow to enter the event but enjoy it
Hotel was nice and relaxing. What a great floor #8.
Cozy atmosphere, great live music. Good food and drinks, the food is a little overpriced but what do you expect from a hotel bar/restaurant.
Worst service I have ever had in a hotel. I will not be coming back. Customer service is deplorable. Over charged me by $75.00. T.V. did not work in the room and should have stayed at a better place instead.
I've stayed in the cozy room twice. For the price, it's reasonable, but the bed is very firm (broke ma back!). By cozy, it means tiny. Also, the first time I stayed the fire alarm went off all night long and I didn't receive anything in compensation.
All in all, cheap room in a good location in Downtown Boston.
You can find more affordable hotels that offer bigger rooms, less cramped bathrooms with free WiFi and complimentary water.
Location is great and the newly designed lobby is nice as well. Everything else was horrible. The size of my room was completely inadequate. There wasn't enough room for both of our suitcases and there wasn't even a counter in the bathroom. When we arrived in the room the bathroom was cleaned very poorly and the toilet wasn't even flushed. There were also other items left behind by the last people who stayed. To top it all off after our long trip into Boston and after we cleaned the room we wanted to take a nap and there were no bathrobes..."as they were our of them".
We stayed a week and it was cleaned each day but on the last day they must of run out of sheets or something as our bed had no fitted bottom sheet. They also charged me the wrong price and I have been on the phone with them for an hour....hopefully they at least fix this.
Very disappointed!
I visited this hotel for a conference, and I received the worst service. My room was supposed to be discounted at $380 a night, and per check in I was told it would be $600 a night. Thankfully, my husband negotiated the price, but he had to go through a lot and kept calling the hotel to see if they would change the price. I paid $400 a night. I m not sure if it was because my roommates were women, that they did no budge on trying to assist in anyway. Either way... I ll never stay here again.
Stayed in Boston last year for a few nights, initially booked with another hotel which was very disgusting, and luckily we came across a room available at the park plaza hotel. Took a cab early in the morning as check in time was close to noon, informed the gentleman at the front desk and he happily told us to feel comfortable in the huge lobby they have and did the favor of getting me a room before check in. The hotel was SUPER clean, the staff were very friendly, the basement gym has it ALL! HIGHLY recommend, I don't think I myself will ever visit the city again but if I do this is the hotel I will definitely book!
Spacious rooms in a nice environment. This hotel is really close to everything and only 2 minute walk into the green subway right next to the public garden and back bay.
Came here for drinks and dinner at the bar and everything was great! Our bartender was so sweet she totally made our night better!
Awards presentation in the Ballroom was great. The Ballroom is beautiful! The smaller presentation rooms, however, were oppressively hot.
The staff was always smiling, positive and available so even though the water pressure in my bathroom was a bit low, everything else deserves 4 1/2 stars!
Walls are super thin. If you are a light sleeper do NOT stay here.
way over priced.. if you can get a good last minute rate then it might be OK, but otherwise expect a big let down.
most of the staff are nice, at check in the woman was "nice" while she tried to convince me I should be impressed with the "upgrade" they were kind enough to offer w/o request which was really funny because it wasn't an upgrade! it was the same room I paid for with 2 beds! I had a choice when I booked and didn't want to beds.. but someone decided I didn't know what I was missing and forced me to take this wonderful room since they gave mine away by 3:30!
add to that the overall run down look, huge burns in the carpet, peeling paint as well as the concierge sending me on a wild goose hunt in 28 degree weather for a "rite aid that is only 3 blocs away" but couldn't be found with the 40 minutes I circled until I froze and gave up. the final straw was the mandatory 18 percent gratuity plus the 4$ charge I was forced to pay for cold food and an attitude. so hopefully you'll understand why that second star is my holiday gift for the few nice employees I've encountered in my first night here.
stay elsewhere if you can.
Choose any other Boston hotel, Park Plaza is by far the worst hotel experience in all the time I have traveled to Boston for work.
The rooms are embarrassingly small. Not just smaller than most hotel rooms but actually uncomfortably small. The gap between the foot of my bed and the wall was probably 18 inches, not including the TV that was mounted on the wall, meaning I literally had to turn sideways and side step to get to the other side of the bed. The bathroom was no different; to open the bathroom door while inside the bathroom, I had to step inside the shower because there was no other room.
While the main lobby is beautifully decorated, I was not once greeted by an employee when I entered at the main entrance of the hotel. Not once. It actually felt like I was not wanted when I greeted an employee at the main entrance with "good morning" and did not receive any kind of response in return.
In conclusion I have stayed in many other Boston hotels as I travel for business and this has been by far the worst. From service to accommodations to the rooms not even containing a mini fridge or any snacks/drinks, this was a big diss appointment.
Very close to the pike, plus easy access to some quality steak houses. Starbucks adjacent to the lobby is Handy. The hotel bar and restaurant is loud but very convenient.
Amazing location in the heart of the city, everything near u. Real big nice room and very nice staff.
Good price for the location in Boston (a block away from the public gardens and boylston street) the lobby is very modern. The room however was...odd. Set up in a very inelegant manner that made it impractical. The bathroom was like that out of a hospital, and every service in the hotel was over priced at best
Boston classic hotel, high prices. We had to ask for a room change, because it was very small. It looks a bit worn, because there are always congresses and conventions. Friendly staff The best is its good location.
I had a few drinks at the bar with a friend. Great drinks and great decor
I am currently on the last night of my stay at this hotel with my girlfriend. We chose the Boston Park Plaza Hotel based on the quality of their hotel. What I am about to mention would normally not bother me, if the hotel was a lower class hotel.
We arrived to the hotel after our flight on Sunday. The bell hops were out front opening the doors of everyone s cars except ours and didn t offer to help with our bags. We then find out parking isn t included in our stay. They charge over $50 dollars a day to valet park your car. I had my girlfriend ask about the situation before we parked. We did not plan to spend an extra $200+ to have our rental car exist at the hotel we are staying at, so we parked at a parking garage for $38 a night. When we check in the woman at the front desk tells us we can park on the street for free on Sundays. This is rediculous to mention after we parked and after we already asked about the parking situation, so the hotel had us waste our money. The woman then had the audacity to say well you can exit the parking garage now and only spend $12 and find free parking on the street . Then she gave me complimentary water bottles. I guess something I can drink out of the sink for free could somehow make up for it.
We get to our room, only to be disappointed about the size. I guess you just pay a premium price to have tile on your walls in the bathroom. Speaking of the bathroom, it can only fit one person and there is barely any counter space.
Later that day Expedia asked me to rate my stay so far, so I mentioned the unexpected fees, the absurd cost of parking and the small room. The hotel reached out to me to address these issues. They gave the excuse we mention our parking rates online and the price is because of competitive parking rates in the city . I understand the competitive rates for people who aren t staying in the hotel, but you charging your guests more than independent parking garages is rediculous, so instead of being able to spend my money at the hotel I chose the independent parking.
Anyway, I replied to them stating they did nothing to fix this problem, and that I was going to leave a poor review. They stopped responding and I haven t heard anything for 2 days. That says three things:
1. They are unprofessional.
2. They have poor customer service.
3. They don t care about their guests.
I have zero tolerance for these 3 things, which is why my review drops to 1-Star. (should be zero). I do not recommend anyone to stay here, especially when you give them a chance to make things right, but they just make it worse with a poor attitude.
At the company I work for, we never ignore guests it s not hard. I will not stay here ever again. Also the walls are thin and room service ends at 11 pm.
Rooms are ridiculously small and the bathroom even smaller. The shower is a little over 1 foot wide. The rooms are like a jail cell. Horrible.
Location is good, but shoboi for price. There are a lot of hits in the room.
Hotel very well located, comfortable rooms, delicious breakfast, common spaces of the hotel are also great
I especially appreciate their terrific gift shop--which has been my favorite place to get bookbags for a long while now! Their prices are reasonable too!
Room is a good size and everything is beautiful. The blinds on the windows shut out all light, making sleeping a breeze. Overall an excellent experience.
Great location in heart of the city. If you can stay in the Garden Suite, you won't be disappointed. Lovely space with fabulous terrace.
This hotel was fantastic, the people working the truly care about you and that you enjoy your stay. Wonderful service, quaint updated rooms, and a great location right by the Common. Cannot recommend more!
Decided on this hotel due to location. We didn't make reservations and were told at front desk we would have to book online on their website in order to receive the room we wanted. Their website quoted $117 if we would have booked at the desk it would've been $387. Staff was mediocre, first told they could not accommodate my service dog, after telling them I was willing to pay the pet fee since it's a pet friendly hotel, finally manager allowed it after sitting in lobby for over an hour waiting to hear from him. Very disappointed in room, tv didn't work, strange renovation decisions bathroom light switch outside the bathroom. Would recommend checking out the four seasons across the street.
No complaints about the cleanliness or staff, everyone was very friendly and pleasant to talk to. Being in town for PAX East, they ran shuttle buses at various times throughout the day. Only downside was that whenever we planned to head back was always in between times they ran, where we had to walk in the cold to find a bus/T stop or wait for a few hours to get a shuttle. If I were to suggest anything, it would be to run buses more consistently throughout the day so this sort of situation doesn't happen to others. As far as the hotel itself though, everything was just fine.
Very stylish rooms; perfectly adequate size for European standards, but I can see what most Americans who are used to big things are complaining about. Staff friendly, knowledgable and quick at check in. The $17 facilities charge was a surprise - I will be complaining at checkout today! Ridiculous that this isn't disclosed upfront.
Disadvantages: Very small rooms, charge extra money of what I paid thru Expedia, Internet is included on the hotel service fee and you have to pay for it!
Outlet inside the bathroom does not work.
Advantages:
Very good location that is close to downtown boston, service is good in general, nice lobby, open buffet breakfast, nice car valet service.
This place is really beautiful and well situated. Great experience! Attentive staff.
I like this hotel without a doubt, I find it very beautiful to see it from the outside and upon entering it is a wonderful hotel, the receptionists were very kind when they rented a room I liked it too much, the beds very comfortable and the room very clean
Room was way over priced for overall quality. Bed was fine, pillows were horrible. AC barely seemed to work. Plumbing was overly noisy and the shower was one of those that has no lip to prevent water from spreading into the rest of the bathroom. Was on hold for over 15min before giving up when trying to call the front desk for information.
Beautiful property in walking distance to the historical sites and lots of dining opportunities. The staff was friendly and helpful.
So, have you ever been to a reception or a restaurant where service was a buffet but there was only one long line of buffet dishes set up on tables against a wall? A long line of hungry diners shuffling their way through while those behind fidgeted and wondered what was taking so long.
Well, with over 300 conference attendees, the Boston Park Plaza had this inefficiency solved. Three lines of duplicate buffet dishes arranged in the middle of a room with lines of people going along both sides of the tables, each side having its own utensils. In other words, six fast moving lines resulting in happy eaters being able to get their meals quickly. Brilliant!
Breakfast included all the standards but I think the dining highlight was the lunch offerings. Kudos to the citrus vinegarette, creamy clam/oyster chowder, fall apart tender beef stew, and al dente veggies. But nicely packed lobster rolls on a buffet? Those were a sweet surprise.
So what if I couldn't turn around in my tiny bathroom? The shower had excellent pressure and the bed was very comfortable. I think I heard that a $100M hotel renovation was recently completed. It shows. One thing I appreciated was that with a bank of six elevators, there was never a long wait to go up or down.
And the second day's sit down chicken entree lunch was served quickly and the food was hot. The dessert below was just too good!
Good conference, good time in Boston.
Boston Park plaza hotel is very good location with modern decoration, good restaurant, nice gym, small rooms very clean and staff is friendly.
I am in the corner room of the top floor, largest non-suite on the property.Tipping well accomplishes a lot if done properly.Pd $301 for 2 nites on Priceline and tipped my way to a 370 sq ft corner room on the 15th fl. Even the shades are remote controlled. Valet pkg $58/nite,plus tips. Just the bath and closet are bigger than most of the rooms, silk wallpaper, marble and travertine everywhere. Beautiful, great staff!
