Jim H. Review of Boston park plaza Hotel

I'm going to preface this by saying that I don't like writing bad reviews. I usually won't. I reward good places with good reviews and leave the bad alone... but in this case... I can't stay quiet...
Our first sign of trouble was the parking. Our options were either valet by the hotel, which was expensive, or $31/night at the HORRIBLE and honestly dangerous (for your car) garage next door. You drive in, and the passageways are so narrow, you can see the scars on the wall where numerous cars have been damaged by scraping against it while trying to turn. I drove the slowest I've ever driven, fearing for my car. I drive a sedan... Respect to anyone who can pull this off in an SUV...
Did not know that this place was under construction, had I, I would not have stayed there. It was a mess. The luxurious lobby you see on their site is not what you see when you walk in. Now I get that renovations are needed and who's to argue, but they could at least give people a heads-up about it on their website so that people going there for romantic weekends or other non-business trips would know what they're getting into.
Credit to the checkin staff. They were helpful and very nice. It was the one bright spot that actually made me think, 'Okay, maybe the worst is behind us...'
Yeah... not quite...
The rooms are not what you see on the site. They are tiny, and the furniture is not arranged the same way... there is virtually no walking space in the room, the closet barely clears the bed when you open it. The hallway between the entryway and the bathroom was so narrow, I had to walk slightly at an angle to get in with baggage. There were wires running across one side of the room like a bypass/jury rig job to get the TV hooked up... which you couldn't see if you were laying down because it was obstructed by the lamp on the nightstand (which by the way is only on one side of the bed, there isn't enough room for two nightstands).
Going down the hallway to get to our room, the doors to the rooms looked filthy and one was falling apart to the point where you could see through cracks into the room and when we got to our room, the key didn't initially work. Every time we went in or out, it took multiple swipes.
The walls were paper thin and I'm not sure if I was hearing construction from downstairs or pipes in the wall, but given that it was going on late at night and we were up on the 11th floor, I'm hoping that it was the pipes.
The bathroom... where do I get started. My walk-in closet at home is bigger (no, I'm not kidding). The sink and the vanity (if you can call it that) are right there the moment you open the door. There is roughly 3 square feet of walking space in the bathroom. The toilet has no tank, it looks like a public restroom toilet... and is loud enough to be heard out in the hallway when flushed. I've never seen anything so crammed in my life.
The bed... well it said it was a queen size better, but I'm not so sure. My wife and I sleep on a queen and this didn't seem as big to us at all. The mattress was also quite uncomfortable.
One of the elevators we were on shook whenever it stopped. It looks like it may be in need of renovation.
Honestly, I'm okay with old and small hotel rooms, I stayed at Omni Parker last year and had a fine time. It was a pleasant stay. I could have honestly overlooked the small bathroom had the room itself been better or had it been cheaper. I got a group rate and stayed here for the pax event, but even after that, I felt ripped off... If you stay here, travel light, there is literally no room for luggage unless you throw it on top of the cabinet.
Like I said, I don't like leaving overly negative reviews, I'm not a negative person, but I could not overlook this and honestly, pleasant staff are simply not enough to rise this above 1 star status. Maybe they have something big in mind once the renovations are complete, but at this point, staying there was anything but pleasant.
