Friendly people. But their push to maximize sales made me frustrated with how they cared for my elderly cat. No, she doesn't like to take medicine. No, she hates going to the vet so I don't want to make weekly visits. Okay, if you must, do that extra $300 blood test. Then all it will show is that she's elderly and she might have a bit of hypothyroidism, which is common in old cats anyway. I'd brought her in for her shots & kept telling them I didn't want to stress her out with any extra thing, but they kept coming up with more ways for me to spend $.

I had an emergency in the middle of the Night with my dog. I called and was helped by great nurses. Brought my dog in and was taken great care of both me and him. I got all the answers I needed and everything was explained in detail and easily understandable. I was very happy with my experience with Dr. Hartman and her staff I definitely would go back here. Highly recommend.

They charged me 8,000 dollars and still missed kidney stones leaving my dog to either suffer an entirely new surgery that would kill him. Instead of doing 1 surgery, and giving my tiny friend the chance he DESERVED, they killed my dog.
So, yea! Go here if you literally want them to kill your dog and charge you 8000 dollars this is the place to go!
Shame on these nurses, and vets for being completely incompetent money gluttons whom clearly only have interest in lining their pockets than the welfare of animals.
Completely disposable.

The most considerate, loving group of people I've come across to care for my old man, Gris. Although my circumstance did not allow full care for my furry old man they were gladly to inform me of home remedies to help our process to recovery. With your warm hearts I now consider all of AVC as part of my family. AVC was my first and will be the only stop for anything I need.

Thanks a million!

I read the one star reviews put of curiosity, and I do feel bad for those people. Over the past few years, we had to take our cats here twice for late-night emergencies. The price was not fun but makes sense due to the nature of their business and hours. The most recent was during the pandemic. Because our cat s issue was immediate, we were prioritized in triage and didn t have to wait. It s just like a human ER triage. I also suspect that it was not a busy night. They were so friendly and helpful and really thorough about everything. We could have a frank conversation about price and treatment options, so I felt they were transparent. We left and came back to pick up our cat, and leaving the parking lot was never a thing for us. They were great about social distancing and COVID precautions. We ve been there twice and hopefully not again, but they d be first on our list.

Was worried my cat had a blockage and rushed him to Austin Vet Care around 7 PM on a Friday. A blockage in a male cat is dangerous, so I was pretty upset when I first arrived. The vet techs were so kind and acted quickly to triage my little guy. After determining that there was no blockage, they brought him back and let me know that the vet would be coming by to talk about treatment. It was a long visit (wait was about two and a half hours, tests and treatment discussion about an hour and a half) but I did come in right at shift change and there are obviously other circumstances to consider at an emergency clinic (RE: emergency) so I didn t mind waiting. They were very transparent about treatment options, let me know about additional tests they could run if I wanted (but made clear weren t necessary), and the final bill was actually less than what I was anticipating! I d definitely recommend Austin Vet Care for emergency services. Thanks for taking such great care of Julian!

Have used AVC twice for emergency care. The vets were compassionate and caring and very competent in tense times. When they are busy be sure they get all of your info correctly as I had to wait 2.5 hours in the parking lot (Corona times) because they had an incorrect phone number.

I had a really great experience at Austin Vet Care. I brought my dog in at 1am because his incision from his neuter opened up. Dr. McClure and the staff were very nice and helped my dog right away. The doctor was also very informative over the phone and took the time to answer my questions and walk me through the discharge instructions. It was expensive because it was an emergency appt, but it was worth it knowing my dog was well taken care of. I would recommend this place for anyone who needs emergency vet care.

I was a little disappointed with Austin Vet Care f...

I was a little disappointed with Austin Vet Care for my visit today. I took my cat in this morning before 9am for a possible UTI and the vet and tech both stated I had the option to keep her there for a few hours or take her home to try and collect a urine sample. I chose to keep her there since it sounded pretty painless for her to only have to stay for a few more hours and so we could get a fast and accurate diagnosis. She ended up not being ready to leave until 5pm, partially because she took some time to get a full bladder and additionally the clinic was busy per the staff. While this is understandable, I had to call the clinic 3 times throughout the day to get updates- none were initiated by the clinic. A little before 4pm they finally told me she was ready and to head over. I got there and waited in my car for another hour. At this point I called and they had said the vet should have called me by now for an update....no missed calls. I spoke to the vet who gave me the diagnosis and told me to head on over to pick her up to which I replied that I was already at the clinic. The vet seemed surprised by this and the staff brought me my cat. No apologies were given for the amount of time the visit took or for the delay, no one called to say that they were running behind. I do think they took excellent care of my cat while there and were able to provide me with easy to understand medical information. However, as a clinic they need to definitely improve their communication and understand the stress that is caused by leaving your pet for "a few hours" and waiting all day without an update.

I took my 4 month old kitten here as I, an overly concerned cat mom, was worried that an injury on his paw was becoming infected and wanted to get him seen ASAP on a Sunday. We waited in the car for only about 20-25 minutes, which was really great, especially considering it wasn t an outright life threatening issue and I know at emergency places they go by severity (which, of course, makes sense) and waits can get long. So already, that was way better than I expected!

The care was also excellent. The vet and vet techs communicated with me via phone frequently and with lots of details, which I appreciated since I couldn t actually be in the clinic with him. They were extremely helpful, answered all of my questions, and gave me advice for next steps.

I m at a bit of a loss to understand why these great vets don t have a higher rating, but I think that s always the case with emergency services. When you re stressed out over your pet having a possibly life threatening injury or illness, you can t see your normal vet, there s so much that s out of your control, and even if the vets do everything they can, you still might lose your sweet pet, it s nearly impossible to have a good overall experience.

However, the quality of care these vets/animal lovers provided was excellent. I don t think you can go into the field of emergency veterinary services without really caring about animals, and the care of these vets was evident from my communication with them. I m glad to know they are nearby 24/7 should I ever need to (but hopefully not!) rely on their excellent care again.

I found Austin Vet Care at Central Park when my cat was acting unusually on a Saturday morning. The vet I had been using flat refused to squeeze him to see if it was anything to worry about even though they were open that day. So I googled the nearest 24 hr clinic and called them. He ended up needing to stay over night due to an upper respiratory infection and dehydration. AVCCP made sure I understood his treatment plan, tests needed, and associated costs before they did anything. They also kept me posted throughout the day and called at 6am on Sunday morning to tell me how he d done through the night. I must have spoken to at least 4 or 5 different people over the course of that day, including the doctors, and they were all professional, thorough, and caring. This is now my regular vet. I see no reason to go anywhere else. Also, my cat seems to like them.

Am saddened to say I lost my 2 year old pitbull just recently. MacDaddy was healthy before he had a sudden heat stroke in which the sitter chose this vet office to assist in helping. When I spoke over the phone with vet. I was advised the heat was excessive and we needed to start treatments asap but was quoted around $5000.00 for 4 days of hospital stay. I asked if anything was being done at the moment to help him even if fluids yet i was told he needed plasma transfusions. And they could not act on his health till the payments were paid upfront.. No consideration for his suffering, I have no clue exactly what MacDaddy went through the techs were rude in expressing I just needed to come with payments so they could start treatments I felt the vet was not prioritizing saving MacDaddy rather prioritizing securing large amounts of money up front.
I was then told after mentioning I was rushing back in town , that to treat him til I got in town would be $2900.00 for four hours...I was then told the shot that the vet or tech gave MacDaddy to stop his siezure stopped his heart..... And im saddened because I'll never know what exactly MacDaddy recieved as priority treatment.. What or how they reacted to a timely manor for MacDaddy's treatment. In MacDaddy best interest the vets and tech's in my opinion were focused on money not his life..
We lost him Sunday June 9th 2019

First of all, Dr Lamkin was definitely one of the ...

First of all, Dr Lamkin was definitely one of the best veterinarians out there she has so much experience and knowledge to understand the symptoms and the most likely illness causing these symptoms. It s really sad I had to take him to a diff clinic and not have Dr Lamkin treat him. So, they quote me $680 for an X-ray and two blood tests for the initial diagnosis which was fine with me. After analyzing the results Dr Lamkin went over the the treatment plan with me and asked her technician Mackenzie to go over the payment details. She was very rude and full of attitude totally out of control! She quoted me a little over $5000 for the treatment plan when I suggested if they could reduce the fees a bit, she told me it was an emergency clinic, so this was how it was as if I ve never been to any emergency before. She also wrote on the report exact quote

Reason for Visit: Owner states the respiratory symptoms started yesterday - owner states the P was gagging and gets nervous every time the owner tries to touch them - with me he is hard to understand and is not answering my questions directly

When I said I m not continuing his treatment there, she abruptly ended the conversation. Then they wouldn t tell me what was going on, then they took almost an hour to discharge him and was very rude to even tell me what they did. It didn t matter that I just spent about $700 in just three hours it seems they are too profitable to care for any of their clients.

This is so full of nonsense totally disrespectful, mean people ever. It s really unfortunate a top veterinarian like Dr Lamkin works there.

I took my dog to another emergency and they charged me less and more importantly were very kind and respectful.

I would never come here again. I was told my dog had parvo and would not make it unless I paid for A Service that wouldve cost me over 2000.00. I didnt have any money so I couldnt help my little buddy. We left. I was stressed out for the next couple of days. I gave him water and meds i got from walgreens. He felt fine 3 days later. My dog NEVER had parvo. What kind of business are they running here?!

So my dog chased after a car and the tire caught his skin. Nothing deeper than just a skin tear. It happened approximately 9pm Friday evening we rushed him in the next morning around 9. So when we got there the vet was really rude and told us she couldn't sew him up because we waited too long to take him in and he needed to have surgery that was going to cost $2000! Of course we couldn't afford that so our next step was meds and a bandage. We walked out of there paying 600 bucks for meds and bandages! If you are able to take your dog to a real vet I recommend you do so.

I can't recommend Dr. Callaway enough. She really cares about the pets she is visiting and is the nicest veterinarian I had the pleasure of meeting. If I didn't have to move out of town, I would take my dog to Dr. Callaway forever.
I had to bring my dog in for an emergency because of a rattle bite. I brought my dog in and they took her inside quickly. Over time I had to bring my dog in frequently for regular check ups on her wound. Dr. Callaway would take pictures of the wound every session to show me the progress. She is knowledgeable and took care of my dog very well.

Took my 3 month old blue heeler to get looked at because she was vomiting and not eating. This was at 8pm on a Thursday (02-20-20). Once we went in they took us into an exam room because my pup threw up on the floor with some light blood spots. A nurse came in to take notes on my pups condition and she couldn t find paper to wright on so she used a napkin to take notes on her condition. Yes a napkin! After about a 30min wait the vet (Erica Hartmann) came in and said our puppy looked very sick, she wanted to test her for parvo but said it would be $80 and looked at me like it might be to much for me to afford.(it ended up being $67) I told her to go ahead and do it. After a few minutes she came back and said she was positive for parvo. She didn t even let us take in the sad news when she brought up financial costs to save the pup. She said between $3500-$4000 with an 85% chance she ll survive it. Our other option was to give her up at a shelter. We decided to leave after paying $211. We took her home gave her Pedialyte every 30min with an oral syringe And paxxin every hour. Know 3 days later she is doing well running around and eating normally. I don t recommend the vet at all.

Amazing experience with emergency care for my dog! They set proper expectations for the wait time over the phone and did everything they could to get her seen promptly. Everyone we interacted with did their best to minimize the stress of having a sick fur baby! Very transparent and consultative about cost and treatment plan. Highly recommend!

Thank you, Austin Vet Care Central Park! As the humans to 2 senior Standard Poodles, my husband & I appreciated the emergency care received when our male Standard, 12 years old, suddenly began have difficulty breathing, was in great distress, & was attempting to eat copious amounts of grass around 8 pm Friday night. The good folks at Austin Vet Care Central Park took him in immediately & gave him oxygen to stabilize him. We waited anxiously in our car (due to Covid precautions in case you re reading this after the pandemic has ended) for word from a Vet. Dr. Millington soon called, gathered some additional information about the incident & then explained he thought it was likely that Lindsey had experienced a reverse sneeze , and that he seemed fine now. Great news! Because he d thrown up in the car on the way, he suggested an anti vomit injection. Our experience ended happily and Lindsey is back to himself & doing well.

They take advantage of your emotions, with super marked up prices. If you leave for a 2nd opinion, and come back you have to pay the consultation all over again, they wanted 4400 for Parvo treatment. As where PAZ will do it for waaaaaaaaay less than that. They are the worst form of capitalism and just another symbol of why we need more socialist reform. Please get insurance for your pet because these people don't care about their survival they care about your money.

Does not allow pre-registration over the phone. Expects you to wait in your car for 6+ hours in 100 degree heat with an injured animal. If you leave during those 6 hours you lose your place in line. (information they could have provided over the phone before I drove the hour to get there)

All of the doctors are kind, patient, and understanding. I took my dog there at 2 AM after he had a very bad seizure, which he had never had before. The doctor and staff carefully explained everything and were kind and compassionate when I got upset at knowing I might have to put my guy down. I had such a great experience and was becoming dissatisfied with my regular vet that I canceled my Banfield pet plan and will continue to use Austin Vet Care. My doggo had another seizure and again the staff was kind and compaasionte all of the options were thoroughly explained. About a month later and after trying the last option of steroid medication (suspect my guy has a brain tumor) its like I have a brand new dog! I know the treatment will only help temporarily but the staff at this place made a really difficult and upsetting situation as low stress as possible. Pricing for care and medications is not outrageous either!

Utterly fantastic. My dog was bitten by a loose dog on our evening walk, and the staff at AVC was so comforting and professional. The woman at the front desk helped calm me down upon arrival and explained how the visit would go. The vet tech was calm and gentle with my scared dog, and the Dr explained exactly what they were going to do, along with alternate plans in the event they were needed. Although I hope I'll never have to go there again, they will be my go-to for any pet-related emergencies in the future.

Last week I was in Asia and left my 17yr old cat, Odie, in the care of my sister. He had previously be diagnosed with renal failure, but after meds for a couple months he was very stable. His health took a turn for the worse and being from College Station, my sister had to take him here. I have never experienced such treatment at the vets like this...not even Odie's own vet. They were beyond kind, they took the time to talk to me and not make me feel like I was just another owner...I was completely freaking out on the other side of the world. The vets took every call I made and gave me updates. In the end, I had to make the hardest decision ever and put my sweet friend to rest without saying goodbye. After it was done, I spoke with the vet to find out if I needed to do anything else for payment. In this call, the vet spoke to me about my cat and made me feel alot better about my decision. I really appreciated this small conversation, it helped to know that they truly care for the pet and the owner. I completely recommend this office! Especially in emergency situations.

Took advantage of their walk - in appointments which is really nice to have available. However, I apparently arrived at a "weird time". Waited patiently but then only saw vet for 5 mins after waiting for over an hour.
Vet did not answer any questions, very vague, and needed to run some tests. The vet tech came back and gave me a bill for almost $1000. I essentially had to deny most of it and sign a waiver. Luckily, I have some experience in the medical field and was confident in making those decisions. But I think about people who don't have that background and get taken advantage of. My dog has two small puncture wounds on her leg, a little swollen, and limping. She's taking antibiotics and is fine. Limping pretty much all gone after day 2!

Original bill $989
Actual bill I paid $156

Watch out! Ask questions - although, most will be answered with: ''cant really say unless we run test"

I had a much better experience three years ago. This time, I took my three year old cat in, due to vomiting that was continuing, and bringing up less and less food. He was very stressed out while there, and they told me that had to put him in an oxygen chamber to calm him down. They said they gave him an ultrasound of his bladder, subcutaneous fluids, and an anti nausea injection....once they got him calmed down. They said he likely had feline interstitial cystitis. Four hundred dollars later, I left with two prescriptions, a few cans of food. Not even a blood test, just the ultrasound. I called the next day to see if I could get a prescription called in for an appetite increasing drug, because he was not eating. Got another doctor this time. Called again the next day, after looking over my bill and seeing basically just symptom relief, including the $73.00 charge for the oxygen chamber. Not so much as a blood test. No ultrasound was on the bill, so I was confused as to whether the test was done, and if not, how they arrived at his having an inflamed bladder. They called me back and explained that I had waived the other tests, but that yes...an ultrasound was done. Well, with the bill already at 400.00.....I was so sticker shocked...I could barely think.

I know it cost money to keep people on staff for 24 hours a day.....but $400.00??? I would have at least expected a blood panel test....since they already had the needle. To be fair, the might have gibmven me a break on the ultrasound, and the receptionist was very helpful. So was the person (Ashley) who called me back.

They seriously need to rethink their pricing.

I am honestly shocked at all the 1 star reviews. Are they the cheapest, no. Is it the best care I can give my animals? 15 years of experience says absolutely! Did your dog or cat have to wait longer than expected? Be grateful that they were not the emergent case that DID have to be rushed into the back. We've been going to Dr. Cotnam since before he was even at AVC and now love all the vets there. Most recent experience: my elderly dog with hip arthritis was unable to walk when we woke up Wednesday. Dr. Cotnam saw us at 1:00. I was a mess, the last two times my elderly dogs were that bad it was time to say goodbye (which AVC helped us through with extreme compassion). So, I was an absolute wreck. Dr. Cotnam and the amazing tech determined it to be an injury and after a lengthy, comprehensive exam sent us home with pain meds, instructions for care, and a request to let them know how she was in 48 hours. Dr. Cotnam himself called me the next day to check on her and give me more advice. Today I called at 48 hours and the receptionist and I talked for 15 minutes, she commiserated with me about her own senior dog and was as ecstatic as I was with the drastic improvement in Nyx. Always kind, non-judgemental, professional, compassionate, and genuinely invested in not just how the animal is but comforting us humans in the most painful of times as well. Obvious shout out to Dr. Cotnam here, but Dr. Gwin has been our savior many times over the years as well. They all have. Thank you guys so much!

TL;DR: I had to take my poodle in for emergency su...

TL;DR: I had to take my poodle in for emergency surgery and I had a wonderful experience. Absolutely nothing to complain about in the slightest. 10/10, would have a panic attack there again, highly recommend. If you're wondering whether or not to go here, it's worth clicking to read the longer version.

Longer version where I lay out every way that they were awesome every step of the way: My standard poodle developed a GDV (aka his stomach flipped, aka bloat) somewhere around 11PM last Sunday and they were the first emergency vet that popped up when I hit google.

I took him in, they took him back immediately for xrays and got me into a room once I checked in. I barely even had time to sit down in the waiting room. The vet came in almost immediately with the diagnosis, and was very gentle, but straightforward, in telling me that it could be fatal. She then sat with me for a second while I processed that information (read: burst into tears) and she even ran to get me a paper bag when I started hyperventilating (yes, that really does work).

When I had calmed down, she told me up front about the risks of the necessary emergency surgery, repeated things that I needed repeated, explained things that I needed explained. She gave me an estimate and told me upfront that she was not a board certified surgeon, she had only done three of these surgeries, and that I could have him stabilized enough to transfer to a different surgeon or, obviously, that euthanasia was a possibility.

She let me go into the back to be with him and pet him and comfort him (read: let him comfort me) while I got my thoughts in order.

When I decided that it would be riskier to leave his insides all twisted up while getting transferred somewhere else and was ready to sign off on the surgery, they pulled up the cost on a tablet and went down the list of things involved one by one, explaining the surgery step by step, all while hanging out in the back with my dog. This is the anesthesia and this is the cost, this is an antacid and this is the cost, this is the painkiller and this is the cost, we might have to do a splenectomy and this is the cost.

It went perfectly, no complications at all, and they called me (at about 4AM) when it was done. They held onto him for two more nights, and when I went to pick up my car the day after the surgery, they let me go back in and visit him. The kennel that they had him in was huge - he had plenty of room and comfy blankets etc. The back room as a whole looked very clean and very organized.

They took the whole possible cost up front, and when I went to pick him up, I got a refund for over $2K for the things that they didn't end up having to do. I just got back from having his sutures removed, and everything looked perfect.

Everyone was so kind and attentive the whole way through. I think I interacted with like 75% of their entire staff over this whole event lmao and no one was rude, no one rushed me even once. I only wish I could remember names worth a damn so that I could give personal shoutouts. But for anyone there who reads this - if you took care of Twain in any capacity, I absolutely love you.

I have been taking my dog and cat to Austin Vet Care Central for about a year now, both for primary and emergency care visits. My experience with their staff and doctors has always been amazing. My kiddos have seen a few different veterinarians there and I have been blown away by how compassionate and thorough they have all been. Unfortunately, we have had to be there a lot in the last 6 months or so because my kitty, Jethro, has been very sick. I had to say goodbye to him this morning and could not be more grateful for the care we have received here. Thank you so much for all that you do.

We took our fur child here after getting an infection from his cryptorchid surgery. We went in waited until one of the nurses came to see everything, then the doctor. They were very professional and compassionate. The wait for his care was long, he stayed over night, but that was comprehensible since there was other patients ahead. We were able to see him during the night to take him out and be there for him, they were really sweet about it. Once they called us, he was ready to go, they even recommended a longer cone so this won't happen again. They did a great job on the re-closing the incision and added more stitches (we did not get him neutered here, thus bringing us to this vet) Over all, my boy healed very quickly and without their help and tips I don't know how long we would of waited (Banfield wasn't that great) They did such a wonderful job on contacting us as well after his surgery was done and when to pick him up. Thank you all for your hard work.

Really disappointed because the ladies there were so nice. My puppy went in for diarrhea and I left with a bill for over $200. I understand with covid, that they need to take precautions so I was not able to see the extent of the examination. They prescribed meds that were supposed to help by firming stool, only to make his situation worse. They also wanted to run a test for any parasites so they needed a stool sample (that I would have to collect at home and bring back to them myself) I did not receive a call or email with results for over a week. I had to call myself only to learn that they had the results, but no one reached out. When explaining the reason for the medications prescribed, they did not seem to be consistent or really necessary but of course for my puppy, I trusted the professionals. I now understand the reason for low ratings. The visit that was supposed to help my puppy turned out to be a huge inconvenience and I'm extremely disappointed. Now to find a vet that can actually help my puppy now that his situation is worse.

I absolutely love Austin Vet Care @ North Lamar. M...

I absolutely love Austin Vet Care @ North Lamar. My 11 month old Pit Bully, Mr. Boss was scratched in his eye by his Chihuahua brother, Killer. I didn't think much of it until his eye swelled and turned a cloudy blue.
I then googles a vet that specializes in Eye's along with General care... I then came across AVC. After reading the reviews I wasn't too sure if this was the right place for me, but the credentials on there web site was the kind of care that my puppy needed.
So on 3/12/16 last Saturday I called to question my concern, I spoke with Cynthia and she assured me that my worries were not a issue.
So I drove from Ceder Creek to Austin and arrived at AVC around 6pm I was greeted upon entry the lobby is clean, restroom was clean they offer coffee and water. We didn't get seen until 7:30pm to 8:00pm. The vet tech was great she apologized for the wait and explained they had a few major emergencys befor us. She then took the time to examine Boss until he felt comfortable. A treatment plan was given to me before anything was done so that I will know exactly want needs to be done and what my portion will be.
Because of the time I chose to separate the treatment needed. My first visit was less then $200.
Today was my second visit to have Boss's treatment completed and I chose to renew all of my puppy's shots being that he was overdue, and reading all the informational forms and postings around the lobby and examination room. A treatment plan was also given to me for that. Which I like just so that there will be no suprise at checkout time. Which my visit for today came out to $220

The Vet Tech's and Doctor's were great and my puppy likes them as well it didn't take long for him to warm up to them. They explained every reason and cause in detail, all my questions were answered, and I did not feel rushed at all.
Yes my first visit took a while to be seen but it was worth the wait. I went it understanding that. But if you are a inpatient person, and like things rushed, this is not the place for you.

I'm very pleased and will recommend.
My puppy is all better and back to his old self.

Oh, and the lady's and Gentalmen up front were great too!

$300 FOR FIRST VISIT W/ONE DOG & $450 ON SECOND VISIT WITH SECOND DOG. if you walk in, there is a $27 walk in Fee as well as other nickel & dime fees ontop. My dog was diagnosed with bronchitis & my dog is still sick. I made an apptment to see same vet, Dr. Clemons, & received a call the next day cancelling the appointment stating Dr. CLEMONS doesn't take appointments. When asked why one was acheduled, I was told Sandra was new. Find a real vet & save yourself money & hours of time. You wait hours to be seen...isn't your time worth money too.

My dog had an eye injury and was completely ignored. We waited for over an hour and not even a technician came by to have a simple look. The front desk kept telling us "another 20 minutes," whenever we asked, and refused having a quick look at our dog (to reassure us) since it could only be done by "a doctor." I would recommend looking elsewhere if you want your dog to receive quick attention.

The late night staff here were fantastic! My friendly pup made friends with a very friendly cat who ended up turning on him. A swipe to the face left him with a little cuts and possible damage to his eye. Between the eye damage being something that benefits from quick attention, my vet being closed on Sundays, and me having enough trouble sleeping after our day, I decided to try something new and check these folks out. They were fantastic!

We got there shortly before midnight Saturday. There were a couple other people waiting but they all seemed to be wrapping up - we only waited for about five minutes. They took the pup back and took care of him! We were in and out in less than an hour with great news and the medication we need to keep my mutt healthy. The exam was ~$80 which seems plenty fair for after hours and the staff were very good at communicating what was happening and options! I wouldn't hesitate to take my pup back.

I was in shock, first of all, because I didn't think my cat was deathly ill and needed to be euthanized when I took her in on Sunday. I explained the symptoms clearly...in writing and verbally. She was hoarse and sounded congested with a cough after eating or drinking. ---- Just like others have said, I was fleeced with unnecessary testing being shoved down my throat. After they'd run all the tests, the vet came back and said the X-ray found malignant cancer on my cats lungs and she was full of fluid which is why she had labored breathing after a coughing fit. The vet then said, since what they found from the X-ray trumps everything else that MAY come back from other test results, she advised euthanasia. So my question is if they were really trying to be flexible and work with me on payment, why didn't she just do the X-ray FIRST, based on symptoms I expressed? And then, they insisted on doing the fiv test even though I told them I didn't want it! I was in shock, reeling from losing my cat and I was being exploited in living color. Never again will I ever take any of my pets there! And never again will I ever go alone to another vet appointment again. This place was SHADY and the only bright spot was a male tech who brought my kitty out in a blanket and he seemed really upset, too. The vet was nice...but what they did to me and others was not cool. Now I'm even wondering if I'll get my OWN cat's ashes back. Very poor impression that leads me to believe they're just gouging. They said my cat was dying and then they circled like vultures.

This was a terrible experience, we had to bring our dog to this clinic as it was an emergency and they were the only ones open but we would/ will never go back. They have outrageous prices and up charge everything, provide very limited information which cause multiple trips and delayed treatment of our dog, and don t offer payment plans OR warn you beforehand that you will have to pay for the whole visit upfront (600$) with no payment plans available

Terrible service, outrageous prices would not recommend

Special Thanks to Dr. Nancy Callaway! 6 month old Riley landed awkwardly when she was hopping out of my car. It was obvious that she was in a lot of pain so I rushed her to Austin Vet Care. They took Riley in right away and gave her some medicine to ease the pain. X-rays revealed she had a fractured leg and we were referred to a specialty surgeon to get the best surgery treatment possible. Thanks so much for urgently caring for Riley. Dr. Callaway was so gentle and caring. I was given me the piece of mind that Dr. Callaway would always make the best medical decisions for lil' Riley Rose.

IS THIS REALLY WHO YOU WANT LOOKING AFTER YOUR LOVED FAMILY MEMBER? I showed up at 4;30PM and checked in. I had a sick dog in tow and the heat of the day posed a health concern to both Bobbitt and myself. I am already at a heightened health risk for COVID due to pre-existing conditions. The clinic provides no cover from the sun. The woman called me and informed me that I lost my place in line and NOT to leave the parking lot again. I would be placed at the end of the line when I returned. I told her nobody informed me of this policy when I first got there. My tough luck; no empathy, from this staff. Its easy to make harsh policies from an air conditioned office.

Took my dog in for nausea and vomiting associated with bladder stones. Wasn't sure if there was a blockage in her urethra while we waited for her cystotomy. The doctor gave her an exam and determined there was no blockage. I felt reassured that there was no issues/ that was 3 days ago and she is doing great. Price was great also at $81. The only thing I was unhappy with was the wait-about 2.5 hours, but that's at any er.

Don't trust them with your pet. They lie and manipulate to take advantage of people with sick dying animals. They DO offer payment plans but will tell you they don't so in the middle of the night you are forced to leave with a dying dog or sign over the dog so they can get the care they desperately need. Poor communication throughout the staff and terrible service. Drive 15 minutes South and go somewhere else!

I would definitely not go back to this emergency v...

I would definitely not go back to this emergency vet. Unfortunately, it just happened to be the nearest place to me when my 4-month-old lab puppy was bitten by another dog. He had a roughly 1 inch rip in his ear that we though would probably need stitches. I realize that there is a pandemic going on and that certain precautions are necessary (like my inability to wait with my dog/be with him while he's being evaluated), but the lack of communication from Austin Vet Care was truly inexcusable. They took my puppy into the back and said to go get back in my car and that someone would call me shortly. It took a while for a staff member to actually call me and when they did, they did not have answers for me about Albie's condition, what the proposed treatment plan was, how long he would be there, etc. They actually took a credit card number from us and charged us roughly $1,000 before any treatment was administered. Then, we were finally told that he was going to need to be put under general anesthesia to receive sutures and that depending on what other emergencies came into the clinic, he may have to stay overnight. This was shocking to me, because the procedure itself was only supposed to take an hour, and I had brought him in at 4 p.m. (This is a 24-hour clinic). Then, the worst part- after having to leave him at the clinic, I did not hear any more updates, I had to keep calling them back myself trying to pry for information. They couldn't tell me with any definitive certainty whether or not he was going to have to stay overnight, or if I was going to need to pick him up later that evening. This led to me having to be near my car and available for the remainder of the evening/night. Finally (after calling them numerous times and getting no information whatsoever), around 10 p.m. I found out they had switched to the night vet and that he was going to do the procedure and that I would get a call when it was over. Again, they didn't call me when it was over, I had to call them. They said he was still feeling the effects of the anesthesia and that they would keep him overnight. So, of course, I went to sleep (it was about 11 p.m. at this point). Then, imagine my distress to get a call at 4 a.m. from the vet. I woke up immediately and called them back and was told that Albie was in distress, trying to take off his ear bandage, etc. I mean, I'm not a veterinary professional, but you would think that this is something they could have anticipated. Of course he's going to be frustrated and vocal and trying to take off the bandage. They wanted permission to give him a sedative, but at this point I did not trust them at all to handle my puppy, so I told them to just give him an oral sedative and that I would come get him immediately. Then, just as the cherry on top of all this lack of communication, they charged me roughly another $200 for BANDAGES and the sedatives that they should have anticipated he would need. Obviously this was a stressful situation to start with, as it was the first major health issue I've ever had with this puppy, and they made it exponentially worse. In the future, I would drive further in order to avoid this place.

I have lived in Austin for nearly 40 years and this was my first experience with this clinic. We had to say good-bye to our 12.5 year old Schnauzer, Beauregard, after dealing with 7 long months of watching him lose his battle to cancer. On Sunday, December 30, 2012, we took Beau on his final car ride to set him free. It was incredibly difficult. The staff at this hospital was the most compassionate, caring, and understanding group of people I have ever seen. We were greeted by a young tech named Amie who was simply phenomenal. Her compassion and caring toward my wife Linda was overwhelming to us both. What a special person she is. The Vet, Dr. April Reeves, was equally wonderful. Linda and I would like to personally thank the staff at Austin Vet Care for making an unbearable situation tolerable. We also offer our heartfelt thanks to Practice Manager, Suzanne Wallace, both for her wonderful professionalism and her incredible training of the staff. We have found our forever vet clinic going forward, and again, sincerely thank everyone there.

Fondly and sincerely,

Keith and Linda-Lang Henig

I've had about 10 visits in the past month to this...

I've had about 10 visits in the past month to this office with the same dog - she was attacked and suffered multiple lacerations that needed emergency care. The first go-round, they insisted on packing, repacking, and repacking her wounds more than 5 times. I finally took her to our regular vet to get a second opinion out of concern this was the best treatment option for her wounds. They shared my concern - her skin was beginning to break down due to being constantly covered and wet, and while the wounds were large, they felt they would heal best with a few staples and exposure to the air to "breathe" and dry out. They were right! She healed up beautifully, and the staples were removed after 4 days.

Fast forward 2 weeks to now. She suffered another attack over the weekend and had several more wounds that needed immediate care. The clinc did provide excellent care during her 24-hour stay. She was sutured and several drains were installed in her larger wounds and she was bandaged again. I was instructed it was very important to bring her back if the bandages were seeping through and appeared to be saturated. When I woke at 5am to check on her, the bandages were soaked through and were slipping off, leaving 3 of the drains visible and oozing. I drove her in right away and upon arrival (to an empty waiting room with no cars in the parking lot), I was told it would be at least a couple hours before anyone could see her, so they asked me to leave her with them. I said she was due for her pain meds at 7am, so to please give them to her and charge me for them, as I had not brought them with, not expecting for the visit to take more than 2 hours. At 10:30am I called as I had not yet heard anything. I was told nothing had yet been done and it would be until at least lunchtime until anyone could see her. I told them I would come to pick her up and schedule her follow-up care at our regular vet, as it's now Monday morning and their offices are open. Upon arriving to get my dog, I inquired to see if her pain meds had been given as I instructed. It took several calls to the back staff to get someone to come talk to me, and the tech said, "Well I arrived at 6:30am and haven't given her anything and we tried calling the vet that was on staff overnight but she's not answering her phone so we don't really know... but my guess is probably not because no one made any notes about it." I am positively LIVID. She had been sitting in their office for six hours with several bleeding drains exposed and completely saturated bandages only two days after a painful attack and was now four hours past the required time to be given pain medication. She had not eaten breakfast, had not been taken out to use the bathroom, and I'm sure was feeling awful.

Over the past month, we've experienced literally dozens of miscommunications from the staff at this clinic about her care, about discharge instructions, about who I even am when I show up after they've seen me for 5 days in a row at the same time for my appointment! I think the vets are good at their job but the techs and office staff are positively horrible. It was difficult to receive clear answers to almost every question we asked, and this last incident is egregious enough I felt the need to say something.

Sadly, if you need emergent care after regular hours, this clinic is only one of two options in all of Austin. I do not recommend them for any follow-up or non-urgent care... if you need a great regular vet, give Corner Vet on Cesar Chavez a try... they have been amazing, smart, helpful, responsive and caring during every visit for all 5 of our dogs.

On an emergency basis, I brought a 21-year-old cat...

On an emergency basis, I brought a 21-year-old cat for euthanasia to Austin Vet Care at 4106 North Lamar. He was not in pain when we arrived. Euthanasia means "good death." What we got from this place was trauma and pain, when what the animal needed was mercy and competence and a final peace. A technician over-shaved his paw and then repeatedly jabbed him, with no veterinarian present, unsuccessfully attempting to catheterize, with what seemed to me to be too huge a needle. I looked large enough for a big dog, and way to large for a cat. My animal was clearly in pain, until I made her stop and bring the doctor, who eventually arrived after yet another delay. Blood everywhere. Luckily I had refused to let the technician take my animal from me and into "the back." I take the doctor's word to be the truth: that this technician was "one of their best nurses." If that is so, they have a problem. If I had friends or family who loved their pet, I would recommend that they take their pet anyplace else but here. Eventually we came to peace, but this was not what euthanasia is supposed to be.

Two days later, I phoned Austin Vet Care in order to voice my concerns to the manager, owner, or medical director about the experience my cat had had here. I was told I would receive a return call. Hearing nothing after three days, I placed a second call. At the same time, I verified that my first call had been documented in my records. Now, four days later, I've still heard nothing.

Thus---So far as I know, nobody in a position of authority at Austin Vet Care has any idea what actually happened to my cat. And so far as I know, apparently nobody cares. In my view, if they cared to improve, they would want to look into what occurred. That isn t the case here.

The vets here are very knowledgeable, intelligent, and quick thinking! I brought my cat in on a Saturday evening because he was lethargic and with a complicated medical history. We were seen right away. Everyone, from the techs to the vets themselves, was very thorough in asking questions and getting to know my cat better. The initial labwork revealed that his blood creatinine level was elevated, and so the vets took swift action. I know a bit about feline health, and I can say with some authority that both vets we worked with were very knowledgeable about what could be the underlying causes of his symptoms and delineated several treatment options we could pursue. They actually provided the most thorough workup of any vet (including our regular vet and for all of the other pets I have had over the years) I have ever seen. I would expect this level of care from a (human) research hospital and I was absolutely floored by how much everyone cared about Caspian's health and well-being. It is worth noting that every tech and vet who saw Caspian allowed him a chance to sniff their hands before they attempted an examination.

Caspian (my cat) ended up needing to stay overnight on IV fluids and antibiotics, and they let me nip home to get him some things to make his stay more comfortable. They even let me get him set up in his cage before they set up his IV and cath! When they are keeping animals overnight (or longer) for observation and treatment, their policy is that you can visit or call whenever you like to check on your pet's status. Being the neurotic and over-involved pet-parent that I am, I did call several times throughout the night and the next day. During these calls, I spoke with the vets in charge of his care, or to the techs who were seeing to him. We were sent home the next day with a new prescription diet, a course of antibiotics (Dr. Gwin did a great job of explaining their purpose, ingedients, etc), and a (tentatively) clean bill of health.

It has been more than a week since then with no signs of relapse. Dr. Gwin has called several times as his various labs come back, and she has continued to tailor his treatment regimen according to their results. Austin Vet Care is not just an emergency clinic, and I fully intend to see them again in the future for all of our veterinary needs, including routine checkups. I have tried several vets in the Austin Area, and it was only dumb luck that lead me here (they are the nearest emergency clinic to my home). I will forever be grateful for the help they provided me, and of all the pet care options available in this city, this is the only one that I would ever recommend!

I wish I could give this place "negative" stars. I brought my cat in last week for an issue with her eye, looked like conjunctivitis. The trip cost around $250, and they whatever they gave her is not working, and instead of apologizing, they are demanding $55 to even look at her eye again. This is the worst customer service. The manager is calling me tomorrow to discuss so I will give them a chance to redeem themselves, and based on how it goes, I will update this post.

Just had my best emergency vet clinic ever. I am pretty leery of these places that pluck your heart strings in order to extract more $$ for their BMWs parked out front (Emergency Vet Clinic of Northwest Austin, anyone?).

Not here. Granted, wasn't a middle of the night frantic visit, but visited because of some serious concerns about our dog's teeth. Dr. Callaway and her staff offered compassionate, to the point care for Dexter and maintained financial considerations on the forefront without being preachy or judgemental about decisions made. She even recommended another clinic that would do impending dental work cheaper. SOLID.

And if anyone drives A BMW, they at least had the decency to park it out of sight.

Instead of caring for my injured cat, they took over a half an hour to change the cage door on her carrier to open the opposite direction, just for the laughs. They wanted to charge over $1100 to treat her open wound. We ended up paying over $500 for antibiotics, a bad hair cut, and a "pain medication" that turned out to be saline. They didn't even look for the other wounds I told them about beforehand, including an area on her neck. The 1/2 inch hole in her side was the only one they could "barely find"... These people "care" for your loved ones? They only seemed to care about taking an entire paycheck from a family with two little girls in the lobby. Maybe they can afford to spend that much in a night at their favorite club. We were hurting for quite a while after that. Go anywhere else, I would suggest going to a fast food chain for treatment before I would ever take an injured or sick anything to these dirt bags. Should have posted this a long time ago to save anyone the heartache. Sorry to those who fell into the same trap.

Our small poodle had a possible broken leg from a fall and then was mis-treated quite harshly which resulted in an concussion. Being from out of town and it being a Sunday, we took her to AVC. They were nothing but kind to us and Missy received wonderful care that enabled her to come home the next morning. Can't say enough about the staff and care we all received there.

The vet was very vague on the expensive medicine they prescribed to my dog. I had to do my own research on the prescriptions to understand what they were giving my dog.

Also after my vet visit, I overheard a customer yell at the staff because of an incorrect bill and she stormed off. I heard the staff talking saying they were going to fix the bill but changed their mind after how she acted. Instead of correcting her bill when she asked, they chose not to react the unethically. So after witnessing that, I feel like the staff is not reliable.

Telling me that My dog is not important and there are other more important things to do like what the heck is that? Every dog is important to their pet owner. They already had us waiting a whole hour and a half in total and she kept coming in and saying 20 minutes . Oh, and to make matters worse I got there and the lobby was empty! I had the worst experience! My dog had a hematoma that ended up opening and I rushed him to here. Once I called to check in ( because of covid-19 having to wait outside) I asked if someone could at least come and check on him to make sure he didnt have to be rushed in. NO ONE SHOWED!! Once they actually took my dog back they wanted to charge me $980 to run some test to see what time of infection he had once I told them I could only afford $200 they gave me one prescription for him didnt explain to me how to clean his cut and gave him back to me still bleeding!!! Staff was very friendly and accommodating. It's awesome that they are 24 hours, as the time I went here they were the only vet open.

I took my cat here for inappropriate urination. She was given an antibiotic and had a urine sample taken. Over the week, she wasnt feeling better at all, So I took her to a new vet for a second opinion. The new vet discovered fleas on her, and that she appeared to be allergic to them. There is little marks all over her from itching that this vet did not find. The new vet diagnosed her with idiopathic cystitis from stress, where this vet, it just felt like they tested the urine sample and pretty much said good luck, lol. I would suggest Austin Urban Pet Center, especially if you have cats. this place is great for an emergency, but not so much as a primary care vet.

I have been to Austin Vet Care at Central Park twice this year. Both times they were efficient and great at their modified check in process to keep everyone safe during the pandemic. They were mostly upfront with prices, they didn't specify the office visit/exam fee (was $75 first time and $55 second time). They take walk ins after 7 pm, which was stressful the second time as I was worried about an intestinal issue, but I understood since my dog had no other symptoms she wasn't in critical condition. I needed to ask some follow up questions about aftercare, but they answered helpfully. Wait times for check in and waiting for results were mostly accurate, but obviously things come up that may take priority so understandable.

I've never written and posted a negative review before, but a friend urged me to share my horrible experience at Austin Emergency Vet Care / Central Park so that others might avoid this place. My cat stopped eating on a Friday, and I made an appointment to take her to my regular vet on the next Monday when they were open. She went downhill over the weekend, and on Sunday I rushed her to Austin Emergency Vet Care / Central Park. The receptionist was loud, hyper, dancing around, and being extremely insensitive to the people & sick animals in the front waiting room. Her inappropriately wild behavior continued throughout the "intake" process. She lead me to a private medical room where I waited a while for the Vet Tech to appear. This woman seemed to have never worked with animals before. She was unable to take my tiny, gentle cat out of the pet carrier (so I did this for her). She was unable to take my cat's temperature. (she nervously tried but wasn't able). My cat had a small cut on her nose, and the Vet Tech started wiping it with cotton + hydrogen peroxide. I asked her to please stop , since my regular vet warned me NEVER to get any hydrogen peroxide in a cat's eyes. At this point I asked if I could see a different Vet Tech or a Vet, since I felt very uncomfortable. I tried to communicate this in a non-offensive way, however, soon after I overheard the Vet Tech, the receptionist and one other woman bad-mouthing me on the other side of the closed door. I had to leave, since the experience inspired nothing but mistrust and anxiety. I HIGHLY recommend choosing another emergency vet. My own vet recommends Central Texas Veterinary Specialty and Emergency Hospitals. I've not yet had to use them.

Well, visit started good then down hill. I was the first walk in and then I took backseat to other walk ins. I was not pleased. I had to have Nicole called twice to come wrap up my visit. The conversation turned to why did I own a dog if I could not afford to care for it. I did not need a lecture about this. I felt disrespected and she was rude by repeating it. She said she did not own a pet cause she can't afford one. I will not be back!

The good: this is a 24 hour emergency clinic. They are good at prioritizing animals in need. The staff are friendly (most of the time, it is an emergency clinic, so they can get understandably busy) and it's a clean place in a good location.

The bad: I was sucked DRY for my money to the point of tears & I considered giving up my young pet because I was led to believe they might have a congenital defect. I know medical bills can be expensive for emergency cases, but I later found that my pet was tested for diseases he actually had the vaccines for already. And they did not make my options clear to me. I fear that they saw I was a first-time, young pet owner and took advantage of that. It wasn't until I (humiliatingly) told them I could not afford more treatment did they discharge my pet. And he was totally fine under my care. They also continue to follow up via mail/email asking me to come in to complete treatment for an issue my pet did not have? Which is why I'm prompted to leave this review.

During diagnosis, I did not find the doctors or the vet techs to be trustworthy in their delivery of information (they seemed unsure) or even knowledgable about what was going on (my sister who is a doctor told me they were prescribing extremely general medicines...the kind you give when you don't know what's wrong) even after 24 hours of hospitalization.

In the end, my pet just had a very simply treated parasite. Which cleared up in 3 days. But I paid for 3 different medications that were unrelated to his actual illness AND one that made him even more sick.

While I understand that sometimes you have to try a few meds before finding out what is wrong, they didn't even read his shot record to see that he was vaccinated for distemper/parvo etc and yet still completely scared me and said he might die from parvo.

Only go here if you have a true emergency and can afford high bills/know a bit about your pet already. Don't be naive like me.

About 9pm or dog got into gum, threw up all his food and about half the gum (he ate about 20 pieces). Soon after he started stumbling and began seizing. We drove an hour and a half to this location, on arrival (About midnight) the woman who took him back said it ll be about $180 for this visit in total if that s okay so I wasn t as worried. We sat outside in the truck waiting on any updates, they called maybe 20 minutes later to Tell me he had to stay overnight, and we d have to pay $2000 and they needed $500 immediately. I obliged because of his condition. Then they had me call poison control ($75 cost) to access further treatment. After that information was transferred they told me overall he had to stay 36-72 hours and I had to pay $3200 up front or they could not provide treatment. At the 30 hour mark they called and told me he needed to stay another 48 hours so they could monitor his blood sugar and liver values, which I was told two hours before hand they were normal. My normal vet told me to bring him home, and put maple syrup on some chicken and rice and give him denamarin for his liver and he d be fine.

Overall: they were rude, money hungry, and had zero concept that no normal person has access to $3200 at midnight. I ended up paying $2400 with the help of two credit loans, a personal bank loan, and my mother in law. He also came home covered in urine. I wouldn t recommend this facility to anyone.

I have had several pet emergencies (cats and dog) and this is my go to emergency vet. I was shocked to see their ratings so low on here. They are great at what they do.

I've actually had more in depth thoughtful discussions about my pets health with these vets than some of my primary care vets in the past. Caring and knowledgeable people.

Slow, disorganized, slooooow, uninterested, did I mention slow?

Annnnd... Overpriced!, Upsells treatments and prescriptions they don't need. They tried to sell me 300.00 worth of meds that cost me 16.00 at HEB.

Animals are just dollar signs here. HARD PASS...

This is THE WORST vet clinic that I have EVER been to. My boyfriend and I took our cat in because he was pretty sick, and they told us that he didn't have any parasites and that he just needed some antibiotics and probiotics. $200 bill. Our cat only got worse, so we took him back to the clinic. This time they basically told us that they didn't know what was wrong and to just keep on giving him the antibiotics and probiotics. $200 bill. Our cat continued to get worse, so much so that he was clearly dying. We decided to go to a different clinic, and they took a fecal sample and let us know that he did in fact have parasites.
So, if you care about your pets and want to go a vet that cares about your pets, too, DO NOT GO TO AUSTIN VET CARE.

When I needed vet records, they told me I didn t go to this location for services despite me visiting this location for almost a decade and my bank statements showing otherwise. Multiple calls and almost two weeks of waiting for calls back, someone at the front finally found my record in another patients file. I asked 3+ times for a manager to call back during the processs, assured they would by staff, and no reply.

This on top of a 6-7 hr wait with a sick and dehydrated kitten with parasites the month before. No staff communicated with me in or outside of the room, when I was left in a room for almost two hours without seeing even a tech. Clearly communication is an issue here (which staff stays is a constant complaint), with poor management follow through.

As for follow-up and caring about customers needs or service, I m still waiting on that call

We took our beagle in with anal glands issues after work at 745pm. Everyone was so nice, but especially the Vet Tech Alex who was super patient and kind. The Doctor who treated him was very thorough and gave us all of our options for determining what may be the root cause of Riley's additional symptoms without pressuring us. They were very upfront about the fact that the overhead here is higher than a regular practice since it's 24 hour care and that the rates would be higher as a result. I like they were so upfront and we came in at half the budget we planned to spend. Other vet offices have made me feel like a horrible pet parent, which is one of the reasons I dislike going, but there was none of that guilt/shaming stuff here. I highly recommend!

I took my very elderly dog in to them with a sudden onset of seizures, and the doctor did a great job thoroughly checking her out, answering all of our questions, and helping us process the best decision for our little one. I called them back a couple days later, concerned about her behavior and not knowing whether it was a result of the medication. The vet tech I spoke to was so empathetic and helped ease our minds. And the bill for everything was quite a bit less than I was anticipating.

Very compassionate and timely staff, have tried one other 24 hr Vet in S. Austin that was not truly 24 hours and had to transfer back here- I wish I had just come directly here as the quality of service was so much better too! Highly recommend for emergencies!
