Super, super nice people who love animals. They understand the concerns of the "friend" owner. Professional, yet caring.Very reasonable price. A big bang for the buck, and the buck, again was more than reasonable. Highly recommended.

Terrible place, my dog is pooping purely blood and I have been waiting here for 2 and a half hours to see a doctor. After about an hour of waiting I asked how long till I see someone, the front desk ladies kept claiming he was next and it wouldn t be long. An hour later goes past. I see 2 more dogs walk in to the building and they go right to the back to get seen because it s a bigger emergency . Don t come here unless it s your last resort. They will just waste your time and lie. I had to put 1 star to leave a rating, but In reality this place and people deserve 0 stars because they don t care about people or their pets.

Wonderful experience! I have visited in two different emergency occasions and one follow up. The staff gave great service from check in to check out. Kept me updated on wait time. Friendly and caring. Highly recommend!! Both pets are doing great now.

I'm new to the area with a new dog from a shelter that I'm still working on training and this weekend my dog was having some problems and this was the only vet I could get her to. They were amazing. My dog still has some issues with strangers, especially men, and new places so she was barking and growling a lot but they were all so understanding and great with her. I will definitely go back!

Sunday morning I took my best friend here Because he was so sick losing weight, we literally rushed here at 6am when I saw my puppy throwing up. They did not tell me exactly what was wrong with him. They told me I would have to keep him there 24 to 48 hours and it would cost me 2800. I told them I can give them 500 right now and pay more in two weeks. They gave me option pet credit card, my credit is not the greatest so they told I would not get approved. So I was only left with two options, considering I didn t have the money I was forced to surrender my puppy. I am still so hurt Bc of my credit I was not able to keep my dog. I just want my dog back he was my everything I have been crying all week. My friends and family told me other places would of gave me more options and worked with me as far as payment plans. I been calling this place just to know if he at least lived. They told me once I surrender I can t know any information regarding him. The lady even told me she would get police involved. I only had him for 10 days and took him to vet 3 times. I have all his medical records. This was my first puppy and the worse heartbreaking experience for me

Very bad service and pricey too. Called in for a appointment, went to the appointment said there wasnt on the scheduled. Did a walk in that costs extra 80$ and the staff did not believe or said the number provided by google was correct. Than who did I talk to? And I still have the record of the phone call on my phone. Still dont believe it?

Went in yesterday clueless about an issue with our dog. They charged us an unnecessary amount of money for pain killers he didnt need when he actually needed antibotics. Took him to our regular vet this morning and was treated fairly and was only charged 75. This emergency vet wanted to put our dog under and charge us 1500 dollars. I want a refund for the pills. The vessel they gave us for the liquid didnt even fit into the bottle so we cant use it. We are poor people that just got totally taken advantage of.

Everyone was SO compassionate. I got some very bad news about my kitty, and they talked me through it and let me make some calls. I didn t feel rushed, even for a second. Ricki in particular sat with me as i talked about my emotional worries about my cat. She was very kind, and showed me how to take care of him. They were short staffed so the wait was going to be long. I asked if i could take my big cat to my car so he could get out of the (too small) carrier, and they were totally fine with it and even came out to come get me when they were ready. 5/5 service.

Received prompt service and amazing care when I brought my border collie in for an emergency visit. We were seen within 10 minutes and the nurse and vet were extremely caring and great at diagnosing the issue. We will be back for sure. Thank you for taking care of my fur baby!

The vets and vet techs at Austin Vet Care are empathetic, dedicated, and patient. Our dog was incredibly sick and, like any dog parent, we were freaking out. We absolutely would not have made it through this process without the support of the staff here. Every time I called in tears, the vets hurt and processed with me, no matter how busy they were or how late it was. They ran every treatment recommendation by one another to make sure they were making the right decisions every single step of the way. We will never be able to thank these people enough - I absolutely recommend them to everyone!

Great experience - as great as hauling your pet across town in an emergency can be! My very naughty and smart lab puppy learned how to break out of his kennel and found a bag of trail mix that had RAISINS. We came home and weren t sure which of our two dogs had eaten the raisins, so we took them both in. Decent wait time, but there was a significant emergency that came in after us that took precedence. The vet was very kind and thorough. I was especially impressed with the cost - it s never going to be cheap, but they were very up front with the cost and didn t try to get me to do anything (read: pay for) beyond inducing vomiting which was all that was necessary!!

The past two times I've visited each time I have waited about an hour to be seen even after making an appointment. The staff is generally nice but the wait I'd far too excessive. Won't be coming back.

This clinic is so very kind and supportive. We just moved to the city and my sweet baby girl of 14 years got sick. I brought her in and unfortunately she was not going to get better and I had to make the hardest decision of my life. They told me to take my time and we stayed there for at least 5 hours if not more. We had never been there and had never spent any significant amount of money there but they still treated us like old friends. There was no rush, just patience and kindness as they explained over and over again that I was making the right choice because I had to keep asking. They helped me figure out my financial situation and even suggested looking into third party crematory services instead of shoving theirs down my throat or being upset about not using theirs. They were so sweet and gentle with my dog, letting her take her time to get up and were not forceful or trying to drag her out when she was reluctant to get up. They let me take her on one last walk and even made a suggestion as to where to go. I noticed it was getting busy at one point but they never made us feel rushed at any time at all and were always right there when we needed them for any reason as if we were the only ones there. They gave us blankets to lay on so we could snuggle for the last time and lots of treats and tissues. I don't remember the name of the tech that helped us because I was very emotional but she even clipped some of my baby's hair for me to take home. They were all so nice and reassuring and loving and made our last moments together very comfortable and sweet. We were so fortunate to end up in such good hands in a last minute crisis situation since I hadn't had time to research vets and was more/less at the mercy of whoever was open at the time. I will definitely be using them as my other dogs regular vet and would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a vet that will have their pet's best interest at heart

I would absolutely recommend Austin Vet Care at Central Park to anyone. Dr. Millington was great at reassuring my family and I that our cat was in good care. He made sure we knew exactly what was going to happen and had a very caring demeanor. The staff was so sweet and made us feel like they truly care. My baby is now home and doing so much better thanks to the staff here! I know their job is so tough and I hope they know they are truly appreciated for everything they do!

I had a horrible experience at this place. I would not recommend this place at all! I went in on an emergency visit. Was left to sit in the waiting area for over an hour with a very sick dog. I got the impression that animals that are transferred from another vet or pets that will bring in the most amount of money are taking back first. (not based on urgency as I was told). I observed this first hand, lets not forget.
After thinking a hour was a long wait, a vet tech took us to get weight and temp then placed us in a exam room. After a hour wait, I asked if they had forgot I was back there. They basically told me, oh other things came up. It might be a while before we can get to you.
Another hour goes by, I ask again what is the hold up. I was told that they just had shift change and everyone is getting caught up on the events. Only one doctor on staff and it could be a little while longer.
At 3 hrs and 30 min later, still no one has done anything but take weight and dog temp. I explained this is ridiculous. I have a very sick dog and we would both be more comfortable at home. Just trying to figure out something to get the dog home and on some medications. I was told, well your dog isnt in any critical conditions and if something were to come up with your dog, its in the best place to get care since you are right here and not back at your house. I was told that it could be another hour to two but that doesnt mean the doctor wont come in before that. I was then told that I was more than welcome to call around to other emergency vets to inquire what their wait times are. Then the tech left the exam room.
1 hour later, I was done. 4 hrs and 30 min and NEVER seen anyone! When I arrived at 5:30pm. There were only 2 dogs in the entire place. So as the evening went on, this place took in pets they selected to treat and pushed what I consider less money makers to the end of the line. So at 10:30 p.m. I got my very sick dog, opened the exam room door, walked all the way through this clinic to the front, through the waiting area and out the door and NO ONE EVER EVEN NOTICED WE LEFT! Will never go back. Wish I had read reviews before going. Would suggest to find another Vet and never to use them. Even after we left, if they had actually cared about my dog, you would think they would have called and followed up , asked about him.. Oh but that would have been something that doesnt put money in their register. NEVER AGAIN. Ive since read the reviews on google. Wish I had done before hand. Ive noticed a pattern and experienced first hand. I also noticed they have only responded to good star ratings on reviews. HERE IS AN IDEA TO THE BUSINESS: MAYBE YOU COULD ACTUALLY LEARN SOMETHING FROM THE CONCERNS OF YOUR NEGATIVES REVIEWS AND ACTUALLY MAKES SOME CHANGES.
To potential customers: Dont go there!

Just an update: after visiting another vet. My dog had a stomach, intestinal blockage from a toy. So my dog was critical, after being pushed aside for over 4yrs and ignored. The vet never even seen my dog, only a tech and was told my dog wasnt critical and we could just wait. Dont take your pet to this place! This pic was my in their exam room chairs. He does look fine to me in this pic.

Further update: My dog after getting treatment at another wonderful vet. The prognosis was not good. I was informed if my dog had recieved treatment sooner would have had a different outcome. My dog had to be put down and I will leave it to the consumer to decide if they feel that Austin Vet Care had a hand in that! Miss my dog and hope no one ever has this experience! ;-(

My dog got into some raisins my in-laws left in a bag on the floor while visiting, and AVC was so supportive. They saved my dog's life with their quick action and made it easy for us to visit while he was on a 2-day stay. Everyone who works there is so kind and obviously loves animals, and the facility seemed to run smoothly and efficiently.

I removed one star because it's very expensive and you have to pay in advance ($3000 up front for 48 hours of care for me), and vets in general know they have you over a barrel because you only want to help your pet if you can, but they will give you an itemized bill so you can check if it's not a life-threatening emergency.

I have had such good experience bringing my fur babies here. I am a very obsessive pet owner and often feel overly anxious when my babies aren't acting like themselves. But every time I have brought them in, the doctors and staff have been extremely kind, patient, responsive and supportive. One of my cats was recently diagnosed by their clinic with hyperthyroidism and his vet, Dr. Cotnam, was so helpful and responsive in his treatment of Momo. He explained the diagnosis clearly and effectively, answering my long list of questions with sympathy and compassion. He also took his time to called around to find Momo a specialist for treatment; and he got back to me in the same day! This is a great clinic with great people; I highly recommend them.

Worst place to bring your pet. I called, the lady was extremely rude. I asked her what were the fees to see the vet. She quoted me for $109 to see the vet plus whatever the treatment. She said that there are more affordable vets around town in case I could not afford their prices. So I decided to go to Thrive Vet. Much better services and the staff Is not pretentious or question your ability to pay for the services. Go to any of the thrive clinics instead of this vet.

We can t thank the staff at AVC Central Park for the routine and emergency care they have given to our dogs and cats. The personal communication with Dr. Gwin and the other vets shows their compassion and commitment to helping keep our fur kids healthy. The ability to talk through more advanced medical conditions as well as simple medical care is why we trust them with our kids.

well after a 2 weeks i visited this place for a emergency for my precious cat , because she was having difficult breathing, anyways i soon i got there with tears desperate for my cat, i could see in their eyes the $$ i mean im a salesman and i recognized/notice it that right away , regardless al i was thinking was my precious cat to feel better, well they went ahead took her to the back had me waiting like 40 minutes when finally someone came and tell me my cat is extremely sick and probably wont make it and possible die next day so the vet told me dont worry i will give u a quote of the things she need , well after 30 minutes of figuring out how to rip me off he comes and said is going to be 4.000 $ like what are you serious , and ask me if im able to pay or have the choice to surrender the pet , i was like well i cant afford it i might have to take her tomorrow to a shelter, well after that they still have me waiting in the lobby to give me a total of 245$ for nothing ? like are you serious 245$ for what ? no meds nothing , completly rip off , avoid this place , I felt the vet was not prioritizing saving my cats life, just fill their pockets,

Someone needs to shut this place down by any means necessary.
I would be ashamed to work here. yall forgot what is the trully meaning of being a vet? i think yes....

my cat is doing completely fine now, thanks god. i feel bad for all the people that had been ripped off by this scamming artist.

Thank you for alleviating my fears. We just got a new dog and are establishing a pecking order. The new dog bit my current dog in the ear. It's been a trying past two weeks. The new dog got a second ear infection and then a few days later we found out she also had tape worms and my current dog had a mast cell tumor removed on top of growing pains due to a new dog. I was pretty upset and the staff was very understanding of my current dog's dog selectiveness and came out to the car to look at her and let us do the paper work and wait in the car. There was a bit of a wait but there aren't many 24 hr vets and I didn't feel like my dog needed to be seen asap as her condition was not life threatening; it just couldn't wait until Monday. I didn't think the visit fee was outrageous and I suppose the procedure cost was a little high compared to a regular vet visit but what do you expect at 10 pm on a Saturday night knowing my vet isn't open on Sunday. I did think the medications were expensive. I know the human equivalent (exact same drugs but separate and not in chewable form) are much cheaper but the overall visit was about what I expected. They did suggest a procedure that I felt was not absolutely necessary but it wasn't inappropriate. I opted out bc of cost and bc by the time it got worse, my vet would have been open. I have a human medical background so I felt comfortable watching for signs of infection. I definitely wouldn't go there unless I needed it but then again I wouldn't go to the ER myself unless I needed it either. The staff was kind as well as the doctor despite being busy. I would absolutely use then again for an emergency.

Fast and friendly. Great service. Came in after my dog was attacked - was provided with a good breakdown of treatment plans and corresponding price ranges & expert advice on tending for the wounds afterwards. Hopefully, won't need to come back anytime soon, but good to know they're in the neighborhood for when things do happen.

Unfortunately, the only thing they was telling me about is the amount they want $2100 and you pay it all now. And we won't guarantee that your dog will survive. Ha but this was my mistake and I didn't felt they really cared about the dog which that oxygen was running out they didn't know until my dog was out of breath. That's why they don't let owner stay with their dog so they can say we sorry the dog didn't make it. I don't recommend this place to anyone they don't seem to know other than

Though the staff and vets have all been nice (one nurse is from Austin Pets Alive and I absolutely LOVE her and Dr. Gwen is really knowledgable), I am floored that nearly every visit has cost me $100 or more (not including how much they try to upsell me on various examinations) whether it's a follow-up appointment or just to check out a simple irritation.
I scheduled an appointment for my pet and missed it by 30 minutes because the man on the phone told me two different times to arrive. Because of that I was charged a walk-in fee of $50. That's more than I pay for my own visits to the doctor! The pricing is absolutely ridiculous and the only reason I've been here several times is because of how close it is and that it is open on Sunday's. They certainly take advantage of working people who have to come after hours to the vet. I would highly recommend going elsewhere unless you want to pay an arm and a leg. It's worth it in cases where your pet needs immediate care (as it was for my cat, who had an infection) but I went to a check-up at a regular vet and it was FREE.
Additionally, one vet tried to scare me into getting a $500 examination to check for feline herpes. I said no, but later found out that 90% of cats carry feline herpes from Emancipet.

Visit Austin Vet Care as a LAST resort and prepare to say no to pushy sales tactics and various examinations. If you get a chance to request a vet, request Dr. Gwen as she has been great and never pushed any unnecessary examinations or medications on me. If it weren't for the ridiculous surprise charges every visit and overpriced services, Dr. Gwen would be my go-to vet. But unfortunately, I can't afford to keep spending $200-$300 on a vet visit.

The staff was extremely nice but I can't overlook how they went about seeing my cat. I paid a $110 fee just for them to see him. I was then told my cat was dying and that he would probably pass during the night. I was quoted $1500 for hospitalization and $400 for blood work. I take my poor cat home and try to comfort him for the next 5 hours thinking my 15 year old friend was going to die in my arms. Turns out he was given too much insulin which they failed to tell me. After a few hours he went back to his normal self. Still to this day he is doing just fine. I also told them he was diabetic before hand, and they still failed to realize the symptoms of an insulin overdose.

If i could give this location zero stars i would. I took my dog in and was told he was fine that his coughing was due to allergies but its been less then 24 hours and his symptoms keep getting worse. I was told by 2 front desk employees i needed to pay a rechecking exam fee since its for the same concern. I explained it wasn't right that i was told by there vet less then 24 hours ago my dog only had allergies. They both stated they couldn't help me since there managers had gone home for the day but they must of forgotten they had placed me on hold to apparantly speak to a manager. The second female kept arguing and talking over me refusing to take my information to have the veterinarian contact me. I had never received this type of respect from anyone in this office in the years ive been coming here. I will be looking for a new veterinarian office after this experience. I feel i needed to edit my review. I took my dog to a new veterinarian clinic and after a complete pet examination he was diagnosed with bronchitis. Plz do your research before coming here.

Austin Vet Care has been our go-to emergency vet for well over a decade. They have helped us with a wide variety of emergencies and have been incredibly kind and thoughtful through two end of life moments. I will always hold them dear to my heart. During those harder times I didn t think to post a review, but just now they helped me with a much less real emergency and were equally as kind. I was having trouble locating a prescription food that wasn t regularly stocked. I called hoping they might have it by chance. They didn t, but stayed on the phone with me while they tried to locate someone that did. And they found it. They could have easily just said they didn t have it and moved on, but that extra help is why I go to them. They really care. Thank you!

This place has been my to go place in the past. But today they have disappointed me to where i will never recommend. I have my puppies that have Parvo and instead of helping and doing the exam they lied to my sister and sent her else where. They told her to go to Central Texas Vetinary. That there was no wait list and it would be cheaper. They could of told us they didn't want to bother. We came to the other location instructed and they are making us wait 2 plus hours and are more expenssive.. being worried about the pups and then lied to is never a good thing. Just wanted to point out that you should be more up front and that way i could of looked into the location my self or if you were too busy that reason would of suffice.. but instead we had to get lied to and ended up spending more than what i was thinking too.. not really about the money. It was more the lie and the action of the lady that gave the false information to my sister. And even included that the doctor was the one who suggested us to come to the other location..

It's okay because the bad news will travel and maybe im just a small number that might not be important enough but still i will gladly relate the bad review to the next person asking about a vet place. I will make sure to tell them not to take them there.

Dr. Gwin is amazing! I have never been to AVC but she made me feel like my dog was a long time friend. Its always nice to have someone who treats you like you aren't a stranger.

Updating this because I tried to bring my dog in because she was having labored breathing and not moving. They informed me they were too busy to accept my dog, and recommended I drive to San Antonio. Of course I was not going to drive to San Antonio with my dog dying. I ended up calling Austin Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Center. They were also busy, but immediately told me to bring her in. When I got there they immediately took my dog in to try and save her. I still believe Dr Gwin is an amazing vet. But I will no longer be using Austin Vet Care at Central Park.

This is very concerning please read my story

This is very concerning please read my story

Unfortunately, my visit generated a lot of concerns that I think need to be addressed. First of all, I was there with My dog and she was triaged with no life-threatening signs. As soon as that happened the receptionist told me to go back home and wait until called for about 2 hours. 20 minutes later, the nurse called saying that I'd lost my spot in line and that I needed to go there again and make the line. At the end of the day I spent about 4-5 hours since there were other critical cases in front of me which is very understandable. However, the receptionists should not be misinforming dog owners in any way. This is not the internet or a restaurant, this concerns animal health and should not be taken lightly.

Second and most importantly, after taking x-rays on many areas, she did not receive the right diagnosis and treatment. The discharge report does not really address the main concern I've brought time and time again. She was coughing with vomit. The vomit had gone but the coughing was still there, and she was actually seen doing it while inside repeatedly as expressed by the nurses. The doctor said it didn't matter basically, and he was not concerned about the cough since the X-Ray didn't show anything. WRONG!!!! He actually got upset when I had him look at the video I've sent hours before where it is clearly displaying white foam and an awful cough. When I called Austin Urban Vet center this morning, and another veterinary, the first question they asked me was "Why the hell didn't they send her home with some cough medicine". And this was over the phone. MY DOG WAS ACTUALLY SEEN AND HELD FOR 1.5 HOURS. I'm pretty sure as doctors you are aware that any respiratory symptom can aggravate overnight, just like any human, even more so on pets. TWO DIFFERENT VETS said the same thing this morning (not your clinic)!!!!!. Granted her symptoms worsen at night time and she woke up ill, lethargic and with a cough. Finally I got the right antibiotics and treatment since you guys were unable to provide anything accurate at all. Although this is an urgent care, do you guys have to wait until she develops pneumonia? Can't you simply straight forward diagnose early symptoms of a respiratory disease and treat it before it becomes critical? Which again, can happen very quickly. This is rather disappointing, expensive and FRANKLY VERY WORRISOME for any dog patient. I'm not the vet so you guys should be the experts calling the right diagnostic and treatment for this, not me begging the doctor to send her home with a cough medicine and him refusing to do so. I spent $800 dollars and left completely concerned about her, moreover, the doctor wanted to get rid of me asking questions and basically shutting me off. This is absurd to say the least and this situation could have become critical as it was.

Up until the point that we talked with the actual vet, i was about to give 1 star. Wait was super long, over 3 hrs and reception and vet tech were short and rude as if we were an inconvenience for an emergency visit. Vet tech sent my dog back out without any treatment and then when I called back in she was rude again told me the wrong info and it wasn t until i demanded to speak with the vet that we got somewhere. Dr. Gwen, Rachel and Amber on the other hand were amazing! I ve come to this vet several times and always loved the vets. Support staff on the other hand is just ok if not below average. Just make sure you talk to the vet and make sure they provide the treatment the vet orders, it s very hard to tell when you can t see what s going on due to Covid procedures (which i totally understand) but I did almost drove off and paid for services not rendered because of a miscommunication and a rude tech. Don t be afraid to make sure you get what the vet is ordering and push to be transferred if you re not sure or don t understand something, that s what they are there for.

They will take good care of your pet but they will...

They will take good care of your pet but they will push unnecessary treatment and have poor communication. We were referred here from our normal vet because they couldn't provide the care that our pet needed. So we came in for a very specific service. The estimate they gave us was $2500 on the low end. When we told them to only do what our vet recommended it dropped all the way to around $700. Once we declined the other services the judgement was laid on thick. When we came to pick her up they didn't give us any updates. Just had us sign the release that we were "leaving against medical advice". Which is funny because we weren't given any medical advice nor did we ask for it. We didn't go there for a second opinion...just to get some specific treatments done.

TLDR: they will milk you for every dime they can and when you turn down unnecessary services they'll treat you like a terrible pet owner.

I took my pup here as it was the closest emergency vet to my house. My dog was not even there for a full 24 hours and they charged $3500!! Most importantly, they did not save him. He needed an Ultrasound, which they only have access to twice a week. The vet convinced me he would likely be ok until the morning when the ultrasound tech was in, and she would put him on the top of the list for the next day. Well, he wasn't ok. He did not survive the night. For charging as much as they do, you would think they have 10 available ultrasounds ready at any time! There's no telling at this point if the ultrasound would have saved my dog by providing the information needed to correctly intervene or not. However, I can definitely say I do not feel like they provided high quality care or judgement, and I would NOT recommend this vet to anyone. It was a huge mistake taking my dog here in an emergency situation.

I brought my pet in last week on Sunday night after my normal vet was closed for an eye issue. While other emergency vets had a 6-8 hour wait, austin vet care was able to get us in in about 1.5 hours. All of the staff were friendly and professional.

The only reason I m giving them a star is for the new guy at the front who was so kind to help me after this business tried turning me away when I had no where else to go. No one has a clue to what is going on and they are absolutely RUDE.

The girl told me to head up to pick up my pup. I let them know ahead of time I was on a time crunch due to business related matters. I live not even 10 minutes from the clinic and I notified the technician of this so she is aware. She verified that my pup with the meds would be ready to go. I get here and wait over 30 minutes, am given bs reasoning to why it takes so long, and am hung up on by a technician.

No one apologies for the bad behavior or anything. They screw you the eff over and take your money. Tbh they d rather let your pet die or be sick AF then help anyone out who needs it. BE AWARE IF YOU CARE ABOUT THE WELL BEING OF YOUR ANIMAL AVOID THIS PLACE LIKE THE GD PLAGUE!!!

You ll thank me later. Take your fur babies, money, and time elsewhere.

i can appreciate this vet for its 24 hour availability. however, i'm one of the few that had their pet misdiagnosed. he was having trouble pooping yet the people here were adamant that it was a urinary/feline crystals issue and presented me with a 1,000.00 bill for a treatment plan. a follow up to my actual vet showed that his anal glands needed expressing and that was that. so, nearly $600 later this place put me and my cat through some unnecessary stress and burden. the cat is on a 14 day antibiotic injection he didn't need (Convenia) and i foolishly accepted their opinion and bought the meds it would take to get him back to normal (according to their diagnosis). it is hard to know where to place blame here. however, my advice to this clinic is to LISTEN to the people that bring their pet in. at no time did i say he had trouble urinating and at every time i corrected the technician they assured me that this was the best path forward. i would not recommend this vet for anything other than the most dire of emergencies. if you pet can wait until reg. business hours, do not waste money here.

This was a terrible experience, we had to bring our dog to this clinic as it was an emergency and they were the only ones open but we would/will never go back. They have outrageous prices and up charge everything, provide very limited information which caused multiple trips and delayed treatment of our dog, and don t offer payment plans OR warn you beforehand that you will have to pay for the whole visit upfront (600$) with no payment plans available.

Terrible service, outrageous prices would not recommend.

I am a student at UT, and decided I was ready for an adorbale puppy. He is my best friend and it was the best decision I've ever made to get him. A happy, young new owner I took my puppy to the closet vet to my house.. Austin Vet Care. I was knocked with a HUGE bill my first time and the vet 's compassion was mediocore and talked above my head for most of the appointment not taking into account I am a first time owner. So... when they called to schedule the next round of puppy shots, I tried acting responsibly and asked for an estimate on my next visit, offering them another chance, I accepted the reasonable $40 estimate. Not only was the vist more than DOUBLE what she had told me, but I left the place in tears because the doctor scolded me for playing tug-of-war with my pet and then proceeded to tell me my beautiful new pup had behavior problems!!!! ??? She was so rude and kept quizzing me and asking me if I was mistreating him at home. As an excited new parent, I spend all of my extra time playing and loving my puppy and for her to tell me what an awfully behaved dog I had and that I was doing an awful job taking care of him sent me over the edge. I feel I was taken advantage of and was persuaded to run every expensive test under the sun on my puppy. He is worth it, but the awful, money hungry and terrible customer service is unacceptable. Thanks for the $3.00 student discount on my $90 visit!!! My puppy isn't misbehaved, he can just sense humans with bad character.
And how about $200 to have your puppy neutered.. you be the judge.

I just had my first visit there, and wanted to say that I am very impressed. Dr. Cotnam was very straight forward in his general assessment of my dog, Sam (something I've never seem to able to get from any other vet), seemed very experienced, explained everything in depth, and was very open to any questions I had. The staff was also very welcoming and professional. I will be making Austin Vet Care my new vet.

This is literally my first ever google review because I wanted to share my own experience since there s such a contrast in the reviews here. I was in a position where I needed to go to an ER for my cat and found that this one was close to my house. I almost didn t go here because of all the scary 1 star reviews. Since then, I have been there twice and have had a good experience both times. I had a 3 hour wait one time but that s to be expected with an emergency hospital. I had two different doctors and they were both super thorough with explaining their treatment plans. They also made sure to go over an estimated invoice. I would feel comfortable coming back here and recommending this place.

My husband and I chose this clinic when we had to make the tough decision to euthanize our 18 year old kitty due to failing health. We had visited once in the past for an emergency digestive system issue and really liked how they dealt with the situation... especially considering it was on a Friday night. The charges can be a bit higher (but not much) than clinics that do not offer extended hours (which makes sense). They sent us a hand written sympathy card later on too which we kept. The entire staff was patient and courteous during both visits which were about two years apart.

They call themselves an emergency hospital? I went by and the doctors were in a meeting and could not see my pet until two hours later. This was so unprofessional I cannot believe that they can call themselves emergency doctors. I suppose their coffee and donut meeting is more important than my dying pet!

I have been going here for 3 years, but I'm tired ...

I have been going here for 3 years, but I'm tired of making excuses for the service here.

The bottom line is when you can get in, I think Austin Vet Care's staff provides great service HOWEVER I'm starting to see the hassle and lack of care with every continued visit.

Be prepared to be nickled/dimed every visit and ready to explain, no... I don't want that stool test, no I don't need kennel cough vaccines. Every time I come here it's the same story even though they're allegedly making notes that I don't want this service in my dog's chart.

My most recent visit they tried to sell my 5 year old dog some kind of health plan because he's getting old. A 5 year old dog is considered old now? Thanks for the anxiety. I'm glad to hear the answer is in a monthly fee you guys can charge me.

Also on the same visit my appointment at 3:30 for my second dog wasn't worth squat. I checked in 5 minutes early, and waited for 45 minutes. Never given any update on time or what the hold up was. When I went to ask the answer was appointments were running behind... probably b/c we're too busy trying to up-sell clients. I left without my dog being seen.

If you're willing to fight the logistics around this place I think the care is pretty good. The waiting room is clean and the front desk staff is friendly though not always that helpful.

If you're really in a pinch after hours for another vet, this place will do. Be aware there's an appointment fee and a walk in fee. On top of that, they'll run as many tests as you'll let them and tell you up front how much it costs so they can get your willingness to pay. It was nice to have the piece of mind that my pup was not in pain. Since her problem couldn't be solved over night, we waited until the next morning to do a drop off appointment at my normal vet. I saved about $600 (and my dog got care from the people she's used to seeing and more comfortable with). If you can wait, go somewhere else.

Took my kitten here a week ago for an ear infection. Paid $330. She didn t get any better. Took her back today for a walk-in appointment because they were the only place open at 1am. Was told it would be about 1-1.5hr wait, no big deal. There were only 2 patients ahead of me.

2 hours rolls by and I m the only one in the parking lot, it s now 3am. I call the office to ask about the wait time now... It ll be about an hour and half to two hours . Are you kidding? Why couldn t you update me on this drastic change while I was waiting all that time??

I called to explain how this was annoying and they shrugged it off, we really appreciate your input. said the receptionist.

Please don t go here. It s wont be a good experience. Feel like my cat got worse from coming here.

We received incredible care from Austin Vet care! They were very quick to get our dog back. They assessed him and got our test results back quickly. They called with great updates and had a comprehensive and flexible plan that worked for us. Unlike a lot of these reviews we did not think they were overpriced at all, Especially for the level of care they gave our dog.

TLDR: I was charged a ridiculous walk-in fee of $90, left to wait with a very sick and vomiting pup in a cold room for three hours, and then asked to sign some bullshit guilt-inducing waiver because I told them I was leaving. Wait times are completely unacceptable. My dog and I were an appointment-turned walk-in for his vomiting every 20 minutes. I went in at 7:30 instead of my appointment at 9:30, weren't seen until 8:15-ish by a vet for a 10 min consultation during which I was told my dog would need blood work, x-rays, and an ultrasound plus IV, etc, totaling upwards of $1200.00. I asked to start with just this and that, to which they agreed, and then left me to wait in the same room for approximately 4 more rounds of vomiting. I ran out of paper towels at one point, and decided at about 10 am that enough was enough.

Get your business together, jerks!

Took my cat in for crystals late at night when he couldn t pee. They worked with me on the estimate so in the end I payed $1,000 less than originally planned. They called me after surgery and twice a day to tell me how he was doing until I could being him home. They were very caring towards me and my cat. They even helped me out with all of his things to my car even during this pandemic.

My dog got bit in the face and this place was one of the few open on a Sunday that would take her. They seemed to have taken good care of my pup when it was her turn and they were very covid-conscious. The wait time was 4 hours which was insane but to their credit, they were accurate in their time estimation when I checked her in. My only complaint besides wait time (which wasn't necessarily their fault) was slight disorganization when calling to check her in - had to repeat a few times my information and incident.

I m sorry for the dog. But my cats stomach is a lot harder to handle than a broken paw... very disappointed. Will not be back. Stay Away!! I had never been to Austin Vet Care but they are close to my house and in an emergency we rushed here. I arrived in a panic with my pup and they immediately took him in the back to do an exam. I was upset I couldn't be with him in the back (COVID) but they brought him out to say bye before I had to leave him there for the day for testing/monitoring. The Vet was incredibly empathetic over the phone and the staff were helpful and kind. If we have another emergency we will definitely come here.

I spent a good deal of money here only to have a r...

I spent a good deal of money here only to have a recurring problem with my puppy due to a series of oversights by both technicians and receptionists. My puppy had parasites that kept coming back - three rounds of it. After some cursory research online, I found it was most likely due to him eating fleas & I asked for a monthly flea / tick preventative multiple times on the phone and in person over the course of several visits here. I was not provided with this simple solution I asked for many times, which led to me spending way more than I intended for the same problem, only to end up scheduling a vet visit somewhere else. We did a fecal test on him, and he didn't test positive for tapeworms. There was a literal live tapeworm in the sample I provided and I had to insist he had them to get appropriate medication.

On my third visit, the receptionist treated me with disdain and told me to return 24 hours later "because she couldn't fill the prescription" - even though I was told by them to come in to get my dog weighed for the appropriate dosage & pick up meds. I was confused and asked if there was anyone on site to fill the prescription, since I was told by their staff to come in for it. This seemed like a huge problem for her & she made me uncomfortable with her irritability. She did get the vet tech who filled the script in a minute, no problem at all. I don't know why I was treated this way, it was sort of frustrating. I know people might be having a bad day and give them the benefit of the doubt for that, but it was upsetting because my puppy was in discomfort due to the worms and it would have been such a simple solution all around.

They did give me a month's worth of flea/tick preventative for free and admitted the oversight on my fourth visit. I wouldn't have come to a clinic normally (which seems like it's more for acute problems), but when covid regulations were intense not many vet places were accepting new clients.

I would say this place is hit or miss. It seems good for other people which I appreciate. However, in my experience it was a frustrating waste of time and money.

We've just been told today that our dog is dead! That's right! They took our dog back to give him tests as he was throwing up blood. They insisted on an immediate payment of $500.00 and then stated we needed to do a credit check for potentially more charges because they were going to run so many tests. After charging us $1000.00, they came out and informed us our dog was dead. No reason, no answers. PLEASE, if you love your pet ....DO NOT TAKE THEM HERE!!!

I've had strong experiences with Austin Vet Care, but I'm really concerned with how they're handling these negative reviews. The owner keeps replying with a stock "We're sorry the visit didn't meet your expectations," which is already a semi-condescending way of phrasing things. It's better to show some character and humanity than it is to give such a generic response.

I didnt have a primary vet fr my puppy yet and she woke me up vomiting profusely so I went to this vet to diagnose and treat my puppy's Giardia. Staff was great an emergency bases.
My only complain is that the price is RIDICULOUSLY high. I understand some prices for assessments and such will be higher -- they are open 24 hours, but they charged me 3x the normal amount for medications etc.
I got to compare prices with another local vet and I regret (as being a college student) having to spend about 2x the normal amount for my dogs treatment.
dont come here if you are looking for most efficient for the dollar

I always hate that people treat me like I m a bad dog owner, and she s a bad dog. The staff, although had a hard time handling her and even checking her, they never made me feel like a bad dog owner. They were patient, worked with my budget and we re super friendly. Thank you so much for everything!

The first time we went to Austin vet care it was an emergency our dog Roxy needed some dental work done she had a really bad infection and my wife and I were so grateful they were there to help! You mite think there just doing there job but to us they saved our little girls life. Now they are the only vet we will take our pets to. This is not the end of our story our other little girl Shannon was on deaths door step and she needed emergency surgery to save her life but she wasn't strong enough to survive if they went right in. So they did what they could to get her stable and let us know that they would be doing the surgery at 12:30 AM..... Again Austin vet care saved another one of our little baby's life.
Just to let you know we live in Smithville which is 45 to 50 miles from Austin and there are plenty of vets that are closer but they are the only vet for us. There is no way we could ever thank them enough for what they do, from the front deck to the PA's to the Doctor who did the surgery and keeps our pets healthy now except maybe telling everyone who mite need a vet to go to Austin Vet Care...They are the best!!

Despite the long estimate, my kitty was taken in immediately since she was in a bad condition. Once she was stable she was added to the current waitlist. The cost was not too bad and they talked me through what was necessary and what could wait to be done at her primary vet. While I was unable to see them interacting with my pet, I saw the urgency with which they acted and that made me confident in their ability to help her.

My 8 week old husky puppy wasn't eating or drinking, and was feeling ill. I needed somewhere to take her fast. I saw the reviews for this establishment earlier in the day, and rushed her over that night when my Miko's health was scaring me. I still didn't think it was an emergency, so was fine with waiting for a bit in the parking lot, but when it was her turn to be seen, I knew she'd be in good hands, and I was right. She is playful and happy, and has her health back!

Thanks, everyone at Austin Vet Care!

I trusted Austin Vet Care that they would have care for us but we left the vet office very confused and a bill over $1,400.
We rescued 2 chocolate labs from the street. They were in a taperware storage bin outside of a boutique. Both pups were breathing heavily and were covered head to toe in sores. With great concern we rushed them Austin vet care. They did a full work up on both pups and sent lab work off. We were told that s the cultures would take one month to get back. In the meantime they told us they were contagious to humans and other animals since we wouldn t get cultures back for a month. They sent us home with some meds but not all meds the pups needed in the end. We left the vet office confused, worried and tired. We were not fully educated on the medication schedule. We brought the pups to Paz the next week and that vet prescribed higher does meds and an antibiotic and puppy supplements that were not prescribe by Austin pet care. These pups had active infections that needed aggressive therapy which would have resulted in sepsis which could have killed them if untreated. Were we left with a bill $1,400 and untreated infections.

Thanks for saving our baby, Tika, after her snake bite. It's crazy to think that we got so close to not having her with us. We can't thank you enough. The doctors, technicians, and staff were all so wonderful. Thanks for being receptive to all my phone calls and keeping us well informed of the situation as it developed. Every person we encountered at the clinic was very sensitive to our situation and I greatly appreciated the compassion I felt for us as owners and Tika as a patient. Your excellent customer service was VERY comforting in the midst of a scary situation.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!

The people at this office are absolutely incredible. I've had one pretty quick interaction with them, but it was SO perfect that I think we're going to permanently switch vets over to @ Central Park.

Our sweet little old lady dog had a tumor in her lung. It was found about two weeks ago, but her condition deteriorated extremely rapidly. We had an appointment with our regular vet for the next day, but all of a sudden she started coughing up a lot of blood. She was in horrible pain, every breath was agony. It was time.

We called ahead and then rushed her in to AVC@Central Park to have her euthanized at about 2:30 AM. They were wonderful. I've never been treated with such respect and compassion. The doctors and techs were obviously highly skilled, and everything went mercifully smoothly and quickly. They asked all the right questions about our wishes and granted all of them. They left us alone or comforted us or informed us when we needed, and they gave us all the info necessary. They took care of everything ahead of time so that we could just grieve our own way after and not have to worry about the awful logistics.

I don't want to go into a lot of detail because it still hurts, but I am so grateful to the wonderful people at @Central Park. GO TO THEM. They will take care of you, and they will take care of your pets.

We went to this center this afternoon because my cat was blocked (unable to urinate). After all examinations, only answer we received was that they were not sure if my cat was fully blocked or not. So they gave us two options: one is medicine which was like $430 and the other is urinary catheterization which was like $4,300. We thought $4,300 was too expansive so we chose the medicine. Turns out, he was fully blocked and the medicine won't work out for him. We ended up going to two different vet clinics and the last one gave us the estimation for catheterization about $1,000.
I don't even know why they ask us $4,300 when it can be done around $1,000. And the medicine, which won't even work, was too expansive. Pain reliever itself was $174, when other place asked for $60 for the same amount. Definitely don't go to this clinic. They litetally rip off your money while they are not even sure how to treat pets. I give 1 star because I can't give half or 0. Whenever customer leaves such negative comment, the owner replies with the same structure of writing with different customer names. So they are not even trying to fix their issues. I am so sad that I paid them examination fee.
