I like location of this place. Food was good and tasty. I had veggie burger and it was really good with crispy veggie patty. The service was slow but nice.

If I could have the roast beef sandwich every day I would
Pretty solid New York style deli. Would give 5 stars for the happy hour, where you'll get great portions of delicious food for a good price. I visited a few times during regular hours and thought the prices were a little steep for the value and it seemed like the items weren't as good. Also makes my second favorite bagels in the city.
Nice service but Breakfast came out cold. Which totally made the experience not great. If you know somewhat how to cook you probably could run to the store and put something better together. One thing it has going for it -very big open space which makes the environment loud. If looking for something similar in price but smaller place but good warm food-I recommend going to Roxie's which is right across the street.
Almost worked here, and I would never eat here.
They store their eggs non-refrigerated in their basement and re-use filthy sheet trays for baking all the bagels and other assorted breads. Also if you are ever in the shop just look at the walls and surfaces near the grill, in the open kitchen where the food is prepared, you will see it. It's bad.
These guys deserve an inspection.
The pastrami hash is one of the best breakfast dishes in Portland.
Some of the best food in town. Definitely the best pastrami and corn beef.
Some of the best pastrami I've ever had. The eggs with it are great as well as the delicious sandwich
I read the reviews and had to try it anyway. As I was standing out front, I had 2 guys walk by and I could hear them saying how they hated the place and couldn't understand why it was so full. I went at 1:30pm on a Wednesday and it was packed to the point I had a 20 or so minute wait. I ordered the classic reuben sandwich and it was average. The pastromi was so tough I could barely bite through it but outside of that it was decent. It definitely was not with the $13 price tag for the sandwich. Also, the entire hour and a half I was there, I saw the waitress three times. Once for the order, once to drop the food, and once to take the plate and drop the check. Like most other people, I would say it's ok, not terrible but I probably won't go back again.
3 stars for the pastrami (a bit dry) but 4 for the other food. Quality and tasty.
This is one of my favorite places in Portland. Some of the best sandwiches and breakfasts in the city. Sometimes there is a wait, but it is so worth it. I love this place!
Delicious Reuben sandwich and fresh red potato salad
I've gone a few times with friends and family. Each time, my pastrami was stringy and fatty (Not slow cooked fatty which is what you want) and the service was disappointingly slow. I suppose it's unfair to compare Kenny and Zuke's to NY or LA deli but any meat sandwich that uses fatty cuts should be a lot slower cooked and have no tough stringy fat. The waitstaff was slow to take our orders (~15 min), each on a very low traffic day.
I don't eat meat that much any more, so when I do, I make sure to make the most of it. And doing so at Kenny & Zuke's is definitely worth it. The pastrami sandwiches are amazing, sliced thin and stacked high, as they should be! And the knishes are superb as well. It's a bit pricy, yes, but my goodness, you get what you pay for here.
House made smoked pastrami that is to die for. Though it does seem like the quality of the meat has degraded over the last couple years. The last few times I visited the pastrami was not exceptional. I even asked if they changed their recipe. At any rate still a great brunch spot. Awesome locally and fresh baked bagels. Try the garlic covered bagel!
Great place to eat in morning plus service with smile and very friendly .
Very lively place, with excellent sandwiches. (I haven't tried their bagels/bialys/pastries yet)
There can definitely be a bit of a wait during peak hours, so make sure you set aside a little extra time if you're coming in for a weekend brunch.
Staff was friendly and good service. I had the salami sandwich. Good, but a little dry. Didn't realize it didn't come with any condiments
Solidly tasty lunch offerings, but slim GF choices.
The very first minute that we arrived in Portland, we were craving for something sweet. The parking attendant told us about this place, to our surprise. The plus was actually not only very good, the young man gave us a complementary coffee. Gave us a lot of pointers on things to do around town, never rushed us as we laughed and carried on. If my wife had not noticed the time, we could have been there past closing time. So we paid our bill and went on our way, we'll gladly come back if we're ever in this town.
Will keep coming back. Have never had a so-so meal at this location. Even if we just pop in for a bagel, schmear and coffee, it is stellar. Great service, great food and a great view.
Food was great, if a bit pricey. Our waiter was nice. Our food came out quick and piping hot! There was a huge selection of root beer (my favorite soft drink), with a couple locally-brewed varieties. They seemed to be out of a few varieties of root beer, however I didn't mind. I got the 3 eggs frittata made with pastrami, with a side of potato hash and toast. Everything was awesome! The frittata and hash were perfectly seasoned! The crust of the toast was a bit burnt, but I like burnt toast! Same with popcorn. I know, I'm wierd. The only REAL complaint I have, is there isn't enough padding on the chairs, so my rear and lower back kinda hurt by the end of my time there. Other than that, and the slightly high prices, I loved it! I would go here again, and I definitely recommend it to you!
Very cool place in downtown. I thought the food and service was good. It's downtown, so park on street or find a lot nearby ( there's one about a block away). I had the pastrami it was pretty good. Would like to go back and try other stuff.
A terrific traditional Jewish deli, with delicious sandwiches piled several inches thick (and big enough for two) with nearly everything made in-house, including the Pastrami, Rye, and pickles. Soups are outstanding as well. Terrific place to pick up a fully prepared picnic.
Second time to K and Z. Was not impressed the first time, not impressed this time either. The service is slow and inattentive due to being understaffed I believe, just like the last time. The place is super noisy and cold.
Why do they think they need to charge $15.50 for a Reuben with bland pastrami, almost no sour kraut and stale bread. I got a vastly better pastrami Reuben at Kornblatt's for $11.95.
I know that a restaurant or a customer can have an off day which is why we went back. Don't bother, K an Z is just another example of sheeple figuring it must be good since it's busy despite what their senses are telling them.
Two strikes, I won t go back. I wanted to like this place, comfortable place, and the staff seems real nice. The problem is getting them to come over to you for the min expected service.
Both times, place was less than 1/4 full. Both times waited for almost 5 min to have somebody greet / seat me. Then, inexplicably, no server even approached my table until I flagged one down, though they walked by often.
Super nice, How are you? Hungry. Oh.
Different people took my order, brought drink, dropped off food, all nice.
Then... nothing. No, Everything ok? Do you need anything? (I did). Drink went dry, nothing. Finished and waited 5 min until I again flagged down staff to get the check.
Food was ok, kind of overpriced basic food. Omelette once, average. Meat loaf sandwich, average. No side, not even chips. Fries are crazy expensive.
Probably the worst avacado bagel I have ever had. Extremely stale bagel and lack of seasoning on the avacado. Server had a "typo" when processing my tip which I happened to notice when the check cleared. They issued a refund but we're very defensive. Will avoid this place in the future.
Staff was really nice. Pretty standard eggs & bacon plate for $13.25
IMO It is the only real bagel in the city.
I have experienced super friendly counter
help and it feels like a real NY Deli...BEST!
How can you beat a good Jewish deli? Gives Elephants a run for the money.
Salmon hash had to be without question the most incredible Northwest breakfast dish I've ever had and I've lived here since 1972 absolutely incredible
The pastrami is to die for. Seriously one of the best delis around
Reasonably priced food. Fun set of sodas and root beers and etc. to experiment with.
They fired their worker after he was interviewed by the Oregonian on how hard it is to make rent even working multiple jobs. Makes my stomach sick. Never to eat there myself.
The Rueben was great but the Matzo ball essentially raw - maybe the outer 1/8 cooked and the chicken broth watery. They comped us on second mention. Service was slow. Will try again but stick to sandwiches which are reliably good.
I ate here a least a month ago and I still have the taste of their sandwich in my mouth. A+ there make a great sandwich; would eat there again.
This place is awesome. Firstly it's busy and for good reason. They have amazing food. I had the tuna melt sandwich which was delish. My friends had the Ruben which was massive.
Terrible experience! Never seen that kind of bagel ! Bagels weren t fresh at all.
Great deli, probably the best in Portland. Great deli foods but they also have nice breakfasts. It's worth going to if you are downtown.
Honestly I was disappointed in my visit here. My husband and I ordered a meshugaletta sandwich and it came missing 2 of its ingredients. I would also say the rye bread is dry and the crust is soft, I typically expect a crusty rye bread. The pastrami and salami (which was left off the sandwich and we had to ask for) were good, the roast beef was meh. The sandwich was also missing the Swiss cheese. Luckily our waitress gave us the sandwich half price, hence the two stars instead of one. I just wish there were more jewish deli options in town, maybe a little competition would be good for this place. This is also the first Jewish (style) deli I ve been to that charges for the pickles, so that was very sad. As my friend said when I mentioned this aspect They re a gift from Hashem, everyone knows that!
Amazing pastrami. Excellent place to eat. Very friendly staff. Highly recommended
I'd give Kenny and Zuke's a higher rating, but there a few problems. While their food is to die for, the service is quite lacking. The prices are also a tad high, especially for how hands off the wait staff are.
I have had the best NYC corned beef, but it doesn't compare to Kenny and Zukes. Yum!
I live around the corner from this place and I have to say the people who work there are freakin' AWESOME!! That being said, I WISH the food was as good as the prices they charge. I really do. Because I don't mind paying more for excellent food.
Last week, I got a Reuben sandwich. The meat was so fatty and chewy, i had to toss it. I decided: No more Rubens. This morning I went for my fave -- the $12.95 bagel and lox plate to go. When I got home, I realized there were no picked onions in the container. That's like having sweet OR sour chicken. I went back and was told they were out of pickled onions. The server was gracious and added some more olives and onion slices. I got back home and took 4 bites of saltiness and decided to make myself some cereal. I figure each un-enjoyable bite cost me around $3.00. It's like ordering a sushi roll, getting charged for a sushi roll, bringing it home and finding out they were out of rice. So here's what you get - not what you ordered from their menu.
Again - FABULOUS STAFF! The food isn't worth the $$$.
Great food, the furniture could use some maintenance but other than that really good food and service.
I had the classic pastrami on rye. Good sandwich. Coleslaw was tasty.
Kenny and Zukes is great! Try their sour kraut, it's the best!
Best Corn Beef in town hands down. Their Ruben is AMAZING and their corn beef hash can't be beat.
Maybe we just had a bad first time experience but food took 40 minutes and the taste did not make up for it. May be worth another shot but with all of the great food in the city I suggest looking elsewhere.
Awesome lunch. The Creamy Tomato Soup and Corn Beef Ruben were delicious.
I didn't enjoy my experience at Kenny & Zuke's. I had walked by the location many times, but had never tried their food until a few weeks ago. The menu is a bit confusing offering some items all day, other part of the day and some as specials. Also, it might not be immediately obvious, but his place is suppose to be a Jewish Deli. They advised me to get the pastrami or corned beef (I can't remember). However, I deviated and got a simple sandwich.
The sandwich bread needs to be reevaluated. It's quite hard and would be much better had it been pressed or panfried in a little oil/butter. The meat was on the dry side as well.
I prices weren't crazy high, but when I saw the meal I ordered I didn't feel like the price matched the value. There are much better places to eat nearby and I will be visiting those instead.
Friendly service, good food. Really liked the garlic bialy. French toast is excellent!
I'm really torn between this place and Rose's for the best Rueben. Let's just call it a tie...
I stop in here whenever I'm in Portland. Very good house cured meats.
There was a strange piece of paper in coffee , and I ordered a cup of coffee, but the bill contained two cups of coffee. I had to say again.
Featured in the Travel Channel. Must try their double-decker build-it-yourself sandwich.
Great pastrami and great food. Been going here since 2010. The prices have increased over there years though but I guess I get it. I used to go here for lunch at least once/ week back in the day.
Good food and plenty of it, and, best of all, no long wait.
Got me the tasty "healthier" version of the turkey pastrami sammich for lunch today. Super nice and attentive service, easy to get a table for one during a workday lunch hour, and I got a Sprecher root beer, too. I'll be back!
Always has good food and atmosphere, no matter how long you are in Portland you should come here. Decently priced also.
If you're from out of town and you're craving a bagel, look no further. They make them like they do on the East Coast.
Specialty sodas, great reubens, and the staff is second-to-none. Go there. Now.
Expansive menu and large portions. Good cheesecake. But for the real NY Deli experience, go to Kornblatts on NW 23rd Ave, next door to the only true NY slice in Portland at Escape From New York pizza.
I went here about 5 years ago and loved it. I went recently and was very disappointed. The rye was dry, the fries were soggy, and the dish just was bad overall. I haven't been back since.
Ordered a "turkey club" through Postmates - what arrived was the saddest excuse for a sandwich I've seen. Two tasteless pieces of whole wheat (?) bread, no condiments whatsoever - I mean, no mayo even! Just wheat bread, turkey, ham, tomato, and a little avocado. How is this a "turkey club"?? With service fees and their forced gratuity I ended up paying $25 for it. A Subway sandwich would have been a thousand times better.
