Best deli in the pacific northwest. The meshugaletta is a must try.
It's gone downhill.
The pastrami, which when I had it last was delicate and rich, was like rubber this time (I had it as part of a pastrami hash at breakfast).
The lox was totally pedestrian. You can get the same thing at Costco. Interesting that here we are, just a few miles from Astoria and the best fish smokers on the west coast, and they're not using that wonderful product, but instead whatever this (most likely packaged) junk was.
The scrambled eggs were dry and overcooked, the bacon not exceptionally crispy, thick, or savory. Really, the breakfast menu was completely and utterly plain. Just nothing special at all.
The bagels were slightly stale at breakfast. That's just inexcusable.
I am giving a second star for the decent service and the EXCELLENT, if overpriced, bloody mary. I wish it hadn't been ice all the way up to the top, so I could have had a bit more, but it was delicious. The pickles, too, seemed pretty decent, although $5.95 for a small plate of them was a little crazy. And the liver was decent, as usual.
Awesome sandwiches! Try Ken's special if you have never tried it before.
Nice deli in downtown Portland. Service was excellent but the corned beef sandwich was a bit too dry to my taste.
Friendly service, nice atmosphere. Pricey as one would expect from an airport place, but wasn't to bad. Food was great!
Delicious pastrami breakfast options. Fresh baked breads, bagels, biscuits & more. Both my husbands and I breakfast dishes were excellent. Matthew was our server. He did an amazing job at being present, attentive and authentic. We loved our whole experience!
Always packed, often poorly ran in terms of clearing and seating. Some staff are a bit spacey. Food, however, remains excellent. Portland's best deli food.
Solid New York deli-style comfort food in downtown. The matzo ball soup is a must-try. Most items are carb and meat-heavy.
This is a breakfast-centric review since that's all I have gotten there. That being said I have never left disappointed. The ingredients always taste fresh and the flavor combinations are always perfect. Journeyman's comment about the service is right on target. The server seems to magically appear exactly when you need something but are otherwise not bothersome, leaving you to enjoy your meal. I left the last star off because it's a bit pricey IMO but worth the visit. Maybe just not everyday if you are on a budget.
They have absolutely great food. Every time I'm in Portland I stop in for the pastrami; it's the best outside of NYC!
Pastrami is to die for! It's as good as the photo!!!
This review is for the airport location- wherein I approached the bar and waited for service, trying to order a couple of beers. The woman behind the bar did not represent the standard of service I have recieved at this location in past or with K&Z in general. I only resort to this method of influence (Yelp whining) when I think it will benefit the company itself; the unfriendly service elicited my 15% (for one beer) and recieved an exaggerated eye roll. That was the most engagement I experience in the entire transaction. A positive attitude is the top perogative of an employee who values customer satisfaction.
The reuben sandwich was delicious! Service was also exceptional in this small 'mom n pop' establishment. My server Youssef was super helpful with everything I needed. I'll definitely be coming back here the next time I visit Portland.
Never been here and never will thanks to Oregonian live's article. You don't deserve to do business in our city. FDR would agree with me.
Went when it wasn t busy and got myself a burger with their house made dressing on it that was so good. The bun was soft and buttery and the meat was amazing. Try the pickled vegetables it s a unique treat
Service was fast and food was pretty nice for our family of 5
Still a great breakfast and nice light room on a dreary day. The rye bread is killer. I've come back 3 or 4 times over the years and suspect it is less "in fashion" in Portland than it used to be,.. but in any other city,.. they would be top of the heap for a good hash.
Good food, staff was a little rude about not allowing us to sit anywhere, despite the fact that the restaurant was mostly empty.
Cool joint, great food (big potions), happy place. Spacious, great music. Great food, did I mention that before?
Got two sandwiches
One of which id give 5stars
One of which id give 1 star
The corned beef sandwich was not good in my opinion
I have never cared for thick sliced corned beef and this was THICK
Some may like it but the texture of it falling apart in my mouth is gross to me.
Its almost like bbq.
Was decent value
Especially when compared to$$ kornblatts$$
(Their owner must drive a Ferrari)
The pastrami rueben was excellent
TOP NOTCH
One of the top 3 reubens ive ever had
The pastrami was cut just a hair thinner then the corned beef. Everything surrounding it was delicious
Place is a pretty good value for portland
If you wanna go the best deli in the world
Its just outside Chicago
KAUFFMANS
The pastrami/corned beef will bring a tear to the eyes of true delicatessen lovers
Wowy wow wow. What to say... I think all I really need to say is this: In a city where delicious eateries and brew pubs dominate the restaurant scene, Kenny & Zuke's Delicatessen takes the cake for sandwich shops here in the Portland area. I challenge you to find a better pastrami sandwich. The prices might seem a little steep, but believe me, you get what you pay for, heaping portions, great service and an awesome atmosphere. Check em out for yourself, you won't be disappointed.
I love Kenny and Zuke's. Best pastrami outside of New York. It gets pretty busy Sunday mornings.
The best pastrami I ve ever had!! Spiced well, tender, & a nice smokiness. Stacked high with a tasty special sauce on the side. Everything I was hoping for & more!
Excellent food and drink, delightful & attentive service, with lots of options from which to choose... Highly recommend the Avocado Bagel with pico
Excellent food, every time. This is a place I take anyone who is visiting Portland from the East Coast.
Menu good. Food dry. Not authentic. Especially the pastrami. Disappointed.
Pastrami like few other places do it. Get the Benedict. And the Jerky Mary.
Excellent Rueben! The bread was great, a good solid amount of kraut, just the right amount of dressing. The corned beef was Devine. I think my favorite part was the Spivey pickle though. I could have eaten a whole plate of those!
The staff was nice at least, but this place is kind of over-priced and we waited 20 minutes for them to come take our order. They were also out of half the stuff we ordered so we had to get something else.
Kenny and Zukes will charge you 18.95 for a very small Reuben sandwich. I could understand this if they paid their workers a living wage and you didnt have to tip. But no, Kenny and Zukes not only will overcharge you, they will give you a small sandwich, AND you will cover paying the workers fairly by tipping them.
Kenny, Zuke,- It sounds like you need me more than I need you.
PS the service was great.
I never thought I'd give a 5-star rating for any restaurant, let alone a deli, but this deserves it. Fantastic food.
Had a Sunday breakfast there; tried the 222 (2 eggs, 2 very generous strips of their smoked pastrami, and 2 potato latkes).
Great service - not too much pestering, but every time I needed something there were right there. Great coffee too by the way. Took 3 coconut macaroons to go and ended up giving 2 of them to hungry beggars on the street corners of Portland - something Portland has no shortage of. The one I ate was delicious.
The sandwiches here are fantastic. Friendly staff and quick service make this one of my go to places.
Food is always delicious. Best pastrami around, never a bad meal here.
As a ex-New Yorker who uses Essa Bagel on E 3rd as a standard in NY and the now defunct Kettlemen's as the best I have seen in the NW, I have to say I am quite disappointed. Very tough to chew and lacking flavor. Great boiled bagels tear apart easily and need nothing on them. K and Z's fall far short. Go back to the drawing board, more work to be done.
Space is nice and the concept is good. Not many vegetarian options so it's more of a miss for me.
Chicken soup was homemade. Service fast and friendly. A little overpriced for me.
If you're looking for a New York style deli you're in luck! I got The Chicken Toastie and my husband, The Pastrami.
Wow.
My chicken had caramelized onion and spicy peppers which made my husband want to split our sandwiches. He usually turns down chicken. The Pastrami is loaded with flavor, juicy and melts in your mouth.
I give Kenny & Zukes 6 out of 5 stars!
The breakfast was good but the chicken sandwich was not a good quality sandwich. This place seems like a touristy place that doesn't try hard anymore
What a great date spot! Mr Right took me there! It was love at first bite! I had a really tasty sandwich and a yummy pickle. He ordered a hot sandwich and it was super hot, but he kept eating it. It was that good! They have really tasty ginger beer!
The service is great! The food is great!
I used to go in every month, but since I've moved to Tigard, I'm going four times a year now... SOoooo, went and had the Meshugaletta the other day. It was to die for... end of story. The breakfasts are also great! Honestly, I can't think of anything wrong with this restaurant.
Authentic deli! Pastrami fries! Chocolate eggcream!
Fabulous bagel and lox. Recommended order: everything bagel, scallion cream cheese, lox. Tastes like New York.
Too much meat on the sandwiches. But some people like that.
Great place for brunch with Good vibe in a fantastic location.
Great deli food and a decent bottomless coffee. I eat breakfast here everytime I'm in town, the smoked salmon hash is legit and the rye toast is perfect!
I didn't eat here, but my parents came to visit and dad had one of their sandwiches(I think pastrami) at the airport location and requested that I pick him up a sandwich to have at their hotel and this was the location close to my apartment. He really liked it. Mentioned it several times and I'm sure he'll be requesting it again next time they visit. Lol.
Really good ,,,had the pumpernickel bagel Yum with lox cream cheese !!! So fresh & tasty service good ...
I thought my sandwich was good but not I don't have cravings like some people I know
