Well worth the visit but the two hour queue in the hot sun was a challenge. Tip- buy your tickets online and jump the queue
Very nice chateau, make sure you are there at 8.30am latest even though they open at 9am. The queue at 11am takes 2 hours!!! They definitely miss toilets, a lot!
Bathrooms are absolutely disgusting!!! It wasnt just one particular one, it was every bathroom here. I gagged everytime. I should not have to smell dirty sanitary products. Please stop reusing the trash bags.
Buy tickets online!! If you dont, you'll be waiting in the queue for hours. If you have a set time to visit, they let you cut in line.
The grounds and gardens are so beautiful. The history here is amazing. Its also close to the RER
Be aware that armed military men walk around sometimes.
Don' take the bike, we've been thrown out even as we pushed the bike. But their golf caddies are allowed
It is a great palace built by French Kings
Till French revolution it is officially residence of French Kings including 14 th Loui
Beautiful paintings and statues chandeliers and furniture
It is huge one took a lot of time to go Arround and lot of days and months to study and understand
Lot of kingly rooms and queen apartments closed for visitors
Paintings are beautiful
Gardens are great
vast and attractive
Must see if you're spending at least 3 days in Paris. Plan for a whole morning. The gardens and lake are incredible.
Beautiful palace. But we thought the treaty of versilles was here! It was only signed there though
Insanely large place to tour. You need a whole day. If you can get a tour do it. It will save you time and make the visit more efficient. We did a fat tire bike tour and we cycled through the gardens covering much more ground much faster.
Excellent place to visit! I purchased my ticket one day in advance & scanned my mobile ticket for entry without any problems! I would recommend taking a tour bus as my friend and I took the train from downtown Paris and had a bit of trouble taking the right trains to get to Versailles. The town where the palace is located is so authentically French. So beautiful and clean. Wear comfortable shoes as the palace is huge and the gardens are massive!
Beautiful in all its sense...It's a must visit in Paris
Nice place to visit.
Garden also. Take the 1 HR car in garden.
I could agree to live here although it would probably be a bit over the top sizewise and in terms of taxes and maintenance. Like the gardens though just the right amount of space for my taste.
Amazing and nice palace located 20 km far from Paris. You can go there by train and have a good day. If you want to see all area you need a full day to visit. Most of the time there is a long line for ticket so try to buy online for time saving. The palace and garden is so nice and you can take a amazing photo there.
A vast amount of historical artifacts related to the French royalty is preserved here. The management provides audio guide devices, which can be activated for detailed voice-overs by entering a number shown in each room. The commentary is pretty helpful and fascinating. The garden is gigantic, which makes it impossible to explore in one day.
Great attractions - long queues. Entrance queues seemed the same length no matter the time. Took us 1.5 h to get in with a passport ticket
The most beautiful thing is the gardens, but the entrance for these is free and without queue. Instead the palace is nothing special. They are luxurious rooms, few furniture and the guide tells you little.
Too much line to enter the palace..
The highest level of opulence ever seen. Best seen with a local tour guide to learn the history. Then there's the massive gardens. It's a must see.
The palace and the gardens are great, but they sell way too many tickets for a given day. Having to wait in line in the hot sun for an hour, despite already having a ticket, is unacceptable and somewhat unnecessary. Also, the rooms of the palace are way too crowded. All in all, I am still glad that I got to see it.
It was very dark hot and crowded. If you're going with someone who doesn't handle crowds well don't take the palace tour. But go see the petite de triannon and gardens and fountains. Totally worth the trip.
It was closed the day we visited but the gardens are amazing
This was only a three star for us - not as impressive as I expected. Also, there were not very many areas open during our visit which seemed like a loss and was a disappointment. Gardens were in repair, no water in fountains, it's probably better in the later spring and summer. The audio guides are like something out of 2001 - many things need an upgrade here.
Beautiful but very busy inside. The gardens are enormous and colourful
Probably one of the most interesting palaces I've visited. The audio guide was easy to use and clear. The palace is absolutely stunning with it's exterior and interior workmanship. The garden is huge, I wouldn't recommend to visit during winter because you won't get to see the plants and flowers. I do advise that you get your ticket online because the line was a killer. You will get it same price for euro18 online too. If you are thinking whether you should visit here or Museum of Lourve, personally, I do prefer Palace of Versailles because Lourve is just wayyy to huge and it is hard to cover all areas. If you are not a museum lover, you might find it boring after a while.
Witness the extravaganza of the Royal French.
Also, book your tickets well in advance, preferably the 9am day or 2 days passport to have quick access.
Anytime access can make u wait for hours.
Also, carry a bottle of liquid to keep you hydrated.
Great place to spend a day. Lots to see and do. Tip: have breakfast in the Palace
It's always a pleasure to come back to this magnificent place.
It was amazing! I learned in school about french history and the wealthy center of Versailles. But to see this wealth with my own eyes blew me away. It was heavily crowded that sometimes was very exhausting. I assume this is the normal case as it is a tourist hot spot. The map I got was very simple as I expected to get more information to read on my way through the palace. I didn't take the audio guide so I can't say anything about it's quality.
A beautiful place to visit, well worth the wait as very busy!
Great place! Worth the train, bus or metro ride there from Paris! It's amazing! The architecture and art work are mesmerizing. Went in November so didn't get to see the beauty of the gardens which spans the size of a normal north American city. In November the garden tour is free but they removed most of the flowers.
beautiful with extreme long q, longest ive ever seen, the program about attractions and places is completely wrong for almost everything in the garden, you just go there and nothing happens...
Very nice gardens and the interior of the palace is also impressive. You should prepare a full day for visit. I wasn't able to go to the Trianon , we were already pretty tired, but you can rent a bike and go there (rather expensive, though). I rate 4 stars because the cloakroom apparently was full (something that should not happen in such a place) and the bathroom that I went was mixed , man and women inside... Something very weird.
The only reason this is a 4 is because of the CROWDS. Not sure how or why they structured it in a way that literally makes everyone wait forever before buying tickets, entering the castle grounds, entering each room.
I swear, there's too many people there to ever enjoy anything. You follow a pretty straightforward visit path and it gets clogged up because of so many people.
Also the free audioguide is kinda weird because it sounds like every sentence is a question or sometimes they just abruptly stop talking and that's your cue to change rooms.
But even with all that the palace is GORGEOUS. I mean it's GRAND. We didn't have time to do the whole thing but what I did see was just extraordinary.
The highlight for me though was the gardens! Those are worth it completely. Usually they are free but now they have fountain shows so it's 8.50 euro. Worth it though, it's gigantic! You won't have time to see it all but you'll love how beautiful it is. There is a suggested route and although the map is a bit confusing, I do believe it's your best option to see the most if you're pressed on time. Also since it is so enormous, you will see other people but it won't be at all as occupied as the castle.
Waaaaay to crowded. Work it out Paris! Other European countries do!
Speechless the opulence is beyond
Explanation
We got there about 11 aiming to spend about 2 hours there and then head into central paris. Instead we spent 2 hours just waiting in the queue to get in. However once inside it was a lovely palace and tickets are free for students/under26 Would be nice if there were any stalls with drinks/food there as we were out of snacks and water very quickly, waiting outside in the sun
Not my thing. Too many people. Like one of those stock yards with the cows. MOOO!
It was a disappointment. I bought tickets online to avoid queuing but I still had to wait for security check for about 1,5hrs. No toilets, no garbage bins. Inside I complained about that and the fact that they were using only one X-ray machine when they had 2 and enough personnel. The guy started HOWLING at me to get moving. The supervisor just looked blandly. Disgusting. The palace itself is a fast walkthrough with queen's apartments and some of the king's closed, while some new rooms opened but with only some paintings on the walls and the mirrors gallery. In between some movies were shown. Luckily, because only there you can see the fountains working. I seem to remember that at my previous visit the Trianon domain could be visited with the same ticket. Not anymore. You have to pay separately for each palace. Last time I visited it, it had much more substance and it was a lot less expensive. Be prepared to spend about 50 with transport and all. The French don't care very much about the tourists: all announcements on the RER are made only in French. You have to understand the system behind the train designation to get on the right train (no clear indication of the destination on the train); errors are very easy to make. At the Versailles station, no indicator to the palace. If you find the map, don't take that route. Just turn right at the exit from the station and turn left at the first street light.
The palace was busy but impressive. However the gardens were the best part of the trip. You could happily get lost in the gardens for hours and see something different every time. We only viewed a quarter of the grounds and was there a good 3 hours. We would go back to the gardens not so much the palace
A marvel of architecture and history. Go rested and enjoy. Beautiful scenery, wonderful place.
Amazing place if you love culture, history, and classic stuff.. Is a big, beautiful, amazing place.. Also the canal in this palace is big and beautiful
Worth the visit.
Excellent help available if you are traveling with a mobility impaired family member.
Thank you.
The palace itself if full of history and luxurious rooms, although they're a bit empty. The garden is definitely the best part of the visit, numerous fountains with musical shows, very well hidden refreshment areas an lots of shade even on a sunny day.
Even with ticket, have to wait in queue for more than 2 hours. And should go in the morning time. Else will not be able to cover fully
A bad experience, fuelled by long queues, unfriendly staff and the extortion of paying for every element of the grounds.
We came to the palace with tickets purchased in advance and had to queue for about an hour. Very unorganised inside with many many people pushing. Rooms were artificially rendered. Even entering the garden, you have to pay nearly 10euros, simply because they play music (played through speakers, not even live). Our afternoon of paying the privelege to listen to recorded music was drowned out by renovation works and leaf blowers. If you want to use the train or electric carts to tour the gardens, they are 8 and 34 euros, respectively.
Avoid going inside and admire this place from the perimeter!
We were waiting in the line to enter on December 31, 2019. They decided not to open on that day because of the strike.
The garden is really big, with differents (but not so much) little gardens. Some of these are more prettier than others and the ticket cost was worth (8,50 for the EU students and 9,50 for the full price). We didn't visit the interior of the Palace because of the long queue, I recommend you to come there early in the morning if you want visit it.
FREE ON SUNDAYS - Most museums are free on Sundays.
Prepare to walk a lot because this place is huge. I m no poet, so I m not going to try to articulate how beautiful and immense this place it.
A Cultural Hotspot and a great place to visit if you love Art
Amazing ! A witness to the greatness of the greatest French king Louis XIV aka Le Roi Soleil (the sun king)
We got the disappointed with the fact that they cut off the water of the fountains and the gardens were very dry.
The palace itself is beautiful!
Not organized. Absurde queue even for People Who bought tickets in advance. Nothing special inside
What a national and international treasure which is the confluence of history, art, architecture and beauty. We saw it 45 years ago and enjoyed it even more this time. We had a great guide and we have come to appreciate the art even more than before. Our guide knew the history and the artwork. This added even more to the experience. Go see it for yourself. My words can only describe so much.
Not a garden for flower lovers! It is vast beautiful grounds with avenues of trimmed trees with amazing fountains.
Beautiful! A whole is needed for exploring the vast gardens
Ever see something so beautiful you cried? That's how I felt being here. It was very crowded and the crowd management could be better, but an amazing experience for the most part.
I think the best time to go here is always in the morning. At least before lunch time. There is not a long queue. The garden is extra pay Iunfortunately. The palace was beautiful.
Obviously a beautiful and singular experience, but was so crowded on a Sunday that we were hardly able to enjoy the art inside
The palace is around 30 minutes train journey from Eiffel Tower. The architecture is quite amazing and the palace has a massive garden. Crowds are well managed and the audio guide gives all the valuable information. I decided to walk around the garden which I believe was a big mistake. Please make sure you take the toy train or rent a electric car to check out the massive gardens.
Must visit. It is amazing. Take a skip the line tour. Lots of people but worth
Amazing history a must visit! Do not waste your money at the Angelina's in the palace overpriced and not good.
Little bit out of the center of Paris, but worth viewing. Do yourself a favour and book a "skip the queue" ticket and guided tour from GetYourGuide and Guideotours.
Very expensive and far from city center! Consider a huge line and prepare your leg muscle for a long wait!
Five stars had our guide told us gift shops are inside only. Other than that tour was just enough time to see the important things. Gardens are huge and can take hours.
Gardens aren't planted yet but still worth the visit. Amazing place.
Make sure you purchase a timed ticket in advance. The line to purchase tickets on site looked to be HOURS long. The audioguides are free here which is really lovely. The bathroom lines are long at the entrance/exit so try to go when you're either touring inside or when you get out to the gardens entrance. (Or event better before you come to the grounds). The palace itself is so opulent. The amount of lavish detail is amazing, especially for that time. It's like nothing you will see anywhere else so if given the chance, definitely do visit. I was a little disappointed we went on a day that was more expensive due to the "musical fountains in the garden" as we saw maybe two of the fountains actually turned on but the gardens were still quite a site to be seen. We also found delicious ice cream tucked away near the Grand Canal. That was perfect on a sunny day in the gardens.
Beautiful historic palace, every room are full of luxury and history.
The pros:
- Free Audio guide in every languages ( really helpful and informative ).
- Free entrance the first Sundays of every months between November to March.
- Free access to the Gardens, probably it s more beautiful during spring and summer.
The cons:
- The distance from Paris to Versailles could be easily 45 minutes.
- Long queues at the entrance on that day.
You have to grasp when the construction was done to truely appreciate its beauty.
Super over priced and toruristy. But also a must do in Versailles. It's definitely a day trip from Paris to Versailles. The train ride is relatively easy. The admission is pricey but included in the Paris Pass (but no transport). Pro tip, do the Gardens first if you arrive in the afternoon and the palace first if you arrive in the morning. Also rent a cart while at the gardens if you want to cover more ground quickly. The gravel makes it difficult to walk for long periods. The gardens are massive and by foot will take about 1.5 hours. They offer diffenet lengths of routes on the map. There is also a quick service restaurant within the gardens. Palace was so fast paced and super crowded. Didn't feel like we could really rest and enjoy all the rooms without being rushed along. Also most of the rooms where closed when we went so the palace only took about 45 minutes to complete. The lady at the ticket box was very rude. The line for tickets alao very long.
Too many people and the venue can't really handle it. Be prepared for a 2 hour wait to get inside then a different fee to enter the garden. Staff were rude and overworked. Only one bathroom with many toilets out of order. Be careful to not go the wrong way because you can't get back in. The exhibits were OK, but not great. Many areas closed off or under further restoration. Really not worth the trip.
Stunning view, nicely managed park. One of the biggest around the area. The ambitious space and stunning views are definitely worth the experience. You can literally relive history by visiting the castle and the parks of Versailles. Truly beautiful!
unfortunately only few of the furniture were there.
apart from the palace, the gardens were the most beautiful and amusing part of the journey
Must see, worth the visit. Huge grounds, hire the buggy. Shame we missed the musical fountains
This palace has acquired so much of space, and it is so widespread.. It is a one day picnic type place from Paris. Visit the palace, and next comes the place you will love the most. The gardens. The gardens here are so beautiful... It has a lake, and fountain show. So much greenery, and so much space. Of course a great place to hang out with family or friends or for couples. Being a hit among tourist, you will find people from all around the world at this place.
Be prepared to wait in line. Lines to buy tickets and lines to enter the palace. Sometimes you may end up waiting upto 3 hours!!
However, its a breathtaking place. You should spend the whole day here. There are a lot of things to see here. I think it is something everyone should see just for the sheer magnitude of the place. Read up on the history before you go. It will mean more to you that way.
The crowds are crazy. There are a lot of tourists here. It was difficult to see some of the rooms in the palace because of huge crowd. Bring food and water because queues are very long at food points inside. There's also Marie Antoinette's hamlet, which is neat to explore. It's about 2 km away from the main palace. You can walk, take a golf cart, or the mini-train.
3 hours in line for pretty much nout. Complete waste of time. Our ticket was meant to include the gardens then found out we had to pay extra. Complete rip off.
I visited this historic place years ago on a rainy spring day. I happened to take a small tour bus that seated a dozen or less people and it was very nice as it was raining so hard. It was a better option than the train. This is a beautiful place and the history of it is quite remarkable. Years after visiting I learned more about the important events that took place there.
The magnificent palace belonged to the French royal family from 1682, under Louis XIV, and continued as royal residence till the French revolution in 1789. It is a UNESCO heritage site, and now owned by the state. The palace, along with the adjacent garden, is now a major tourist attractions. It was looted during the French revolution. Annual visitors are around 10 million.
Blown away by scale and decadence. Book ahead. Hoards of tours and selfie sticks...
Gorgeous sights and gardens, go with a tour group with timed tickets or you'll wait hours in line!
Amazing palace. Long queues. Would recommend international students to use their BRPs for free entry. Don't forget to visit the gardens.
Very traditional tour, not a lot a scenery. Free audioguides but number to follow the story not always visible. On customer centricity and entertainment, they score very low. We expect more from the place. We end up: all this for that....
Gorgeous place! Grand Trianon definitely worth seeing. Only the queue was dreadful.
Recommend to find any of these special pass to enter otherwise it will be 2 hours waiting.
No words to describe this place, buy tickets ahead of time to skip the line and rent a golf cart to get around
The palace itself is kind of a let down. At least it was for me. The audio tour was more about the art on the walls than the actual history that took place here. There really isn't much of the original things due to the revolution, which just makes the place full of replicas. It was way crowded with all the tours. That being said the gardens are amazing! Marie Antoinette's estate was by far better as it was less crowded. You actually got to read the plaques and learn about the place! All in all, really pretty but pretty crowded.
A must see for anyone visiting Paris. Worth arriving early to beat crowds.
