This place is well worth the trip out of your way to see. The farm area and Marie Antoinette's place at the back are also well worth the reasonably long walk through the gardens. Unfortunately management haven't figured out how to streamline entry so expect to queue up for an hour or more to get in unless you get there early. The palace itself is crowded but once in the gardens, the crowds are not a problem at all.

Amazing palace experience. Inside arts and exhibits are very detailed and exorbitantly beautiful. The surrounding garden is very nicely decorated and maintained. The walkway to the palace also is filled with nice restaurants.

My day visiting the Palace of Versailles was simply splendid. I had never visited such an interesting place before. For proof, in only 4 hours of visit, I made more than 200 photographs. The castle is so beautiful and interesting to visit that it was sometimes difficult to fully admire this place as there were too many people present inside.
I would add that I more liked the gardens with the different groves (which are really very well maintained) than the castle and even more the show "Les Grandes Eaux Musicales".
To conclude, the Palace of Versailles really deserves its international reputation.

Not as good as Buckingham palace just a lot of photos and a HUGE garden. The free audio guide was a big plus. Make sure to get there early or you will be standing in a line for at least 30min, even if you bought tickets ahead of time

If you want to avoid the queues then book tickets online AND book a tour 7 extra/person. Booking tickets online doesn't mean you skip the long queues. Arrive at 9am. Park next to main gates (~ 20/day) then do bag security. (Fast queue by first gate). Avoid queue for desk A. Turn right by security and go to first right hand side building and look for little sign saying 'tours'. The tours are great value. They last about an hour and allow you to skip all big queues. Sunday 23 July the queues were hours and hours long.
Note: Children under 18 get free entry but you need a seperate tour ticket for over 10s. Also need seperate ticket (different payment system) for special garden water fountain days for children over 6. This made getting tickets for two adults and two kids (aged 9 and 11) tricky!

If you're going to Paris, you have to make a day trip to see Versailles. Whether you want to see the incredibly lavish architecture, the art or have a walk in the gardens, this is an absolute must. It will also help you to understand why the French revolution happened. Not in an abstract, "the rich had a lot of money and the poor didn't have any" kind of way but in an "I would have chopped people's heads off too if I knew they had built that while I was starving" kind of way :-P
Better get your walking shoes on though, because there's going to be a lot of walking! Also, plan to go early in the morning before the queue to enter starts getting long because after a certain point, you're looking at a 2 hour long wait to get through security.

Gorgeous palace, you have to visit in-person in order to get an idea of the sheer size and scale of the place. Tons of tourists around, especially when it opens in the morning. Visit in the afternoon to get a more relaxed crowd.

This is one of the places that I really wanted to visit before I left France, and it didn't disappoint. It is an incredible monument to "The Sun King"s ego, which makes sense, since he thought he was a god. The highlight of the tour for me was the hall of mirrors, mostly because I grew up learning history, and that's where the Treaty of Versailles was signed, ending WW1. Combined with the visit to the gardens, this was a great day, and I recommend it to anyone who visits the Paris area.

Wonderful palace. Recommend it for any tourist visiting paris.

I suggest you buy tickets in advance of arriving.

They provide audio devices for the tour.

Has bathroom facilities and the palace itself is disable friendly.

Breathtaking. Amazing. This was by far my favorite place in the Paris area. Make sure you wear comfortable shoes and check before you go to see if the workers are striking that day. Also, do the gardens / Trianon first, before it gets hot, then do the palace in the afternoon.

The entrance fee is way too expensive, totally not worth it. With 18e I can see bunch of interesting things in Vatican City or Uffizi gallery in Florence or Louvre. Besides, it is not easy to get there from Paris center.

Amazing.

Amazing.
If you want to skip the cues book online.
But the palace itself is georges.
If you could try not to go at public holidays and weekends.
We went twice once in the middle of the week and had great time no cues and you had chance to see everything. And second time we went at the weekend and it was packed. So not as pleasant.
The gardens is a must see.

DO NOT GO HERE! Bought tickets beforehand, arrived before it opened, still waiting in line 2 hours later and have not even made it inside! Nothing is worth this. Would leave had i not already paid for over inflated tickets!

The biggest problem is the crowds. If you're claustrophobic, go straight to the gardens. Its really hard to enjoy inside. The gardens were beautiful. If I went back again, I would go straight to there.

This was a beautiful palace with a lot to see. You need to buy your ticket first then join the line. It goes by quickly so don't be afraid of the ques. If you're an EU citizen you get in for free. If you but online you get a slight discount. The palace was filled with art and history but if you've been to the Louvre then you won't be impressed with this one. Make sure to walk down the main street and venture into the side roads. There is a lot to see.

Beautiful inside, it is truly excessive and exceptional. Make sure pre-book and arrive as early as possible, even with pre-booked tickets we queued for over 3 hours in the sun. Bring shade and something to occupy your waiting time. Skip the line tickets are probably worth a look at if you don't wish to arrive early or wait. Also wear comfortable shoes!!
Second also, make sure you check closer to the date, that the gardens are not 'musical gardens'.

Impressive. Very busy at 10:00 with queue of about 2000 so it was good that we had booked our timed entry passport tickets online. We went straight to the entry point and were in within 10 mins. Lots of opulence to see. Just how rich were those French kings? Walked nearly 10 miles, plus rowed a boat on the Grand Canal for 30 mins, so it was a healthy day!

Simply breathtaking views and step back in time. A visit to Paris would not be complete without this visit. It can be VERY crowded so choose your times wisely. Also make sure to walk through the gardens.

It is very big and beautiful royal palace. You should go to spend the whole day. If you have anything less than a day for this place then avoid it since it is big and has lots of things to see. Try going early so that you can beat the crowd and heat. If you are in a group then stand in the queue to enter and then send one person to get the tickets. You will save some time.
Lots of paintings, big halls and rooms. It's just to see the garden and if you do not want then buy tickets only for palace.

Nice place to spend the whole day walking around the gardens and maybe having lunch or breakfast. The gardens are too big to finish in a single day. The palace is also food to visit but the gardens are probably better.

It is sad that all but a few of the original furnishings were sold off. It would have been awesome to see the Palace in it's full glory. Regardless of that, the palace and grounds are so beautiful. Take a full day to tour. You will not be disappointed.

The bathrooms are few and far between and smelled terrible. Better cleaning and perhaps air conditioning in the summer would keep out this horrible smell.
Every other part of the castle and grounds was spectacular, the staff friendly, and the little train for the gardens is nice if you're tired.

Not enjoying because of the crowds and no limit on the numbers of visitors into the palace so not having enough space to really appreciate the grandeur of the palace. I thought with COVID-19 situation that requires visitors to book a time slot, it would be a good chance to limit no. of visitors at each slot but i guess making up the lost revenue is more important than keeping social distance and appreciation of France history.

Tip#1: If you take the metro to go there, buy a specific ticket to Versailles and only use this ticket. Don't use your intra Paris ticket under 2euros
Tip#2: Come during the Water show garden show. It definitely worth it, and give a full experience of Versailles
Tip#3: in weekdays, I'd arrive there around 12pm, there is plenty of time to visit all Versailles
Tip#4: you should start with the garden to avoid the crazy morning line on the left that last about 1h and half. The garden do not have line at all. Come back to see the palace around 3pm with literally no line!
Tip#5: Online ticcket do not allow you to cut the crazy line for the palace. But it will save you some precious minutes. Just get it!

The queue to Palace of Versailles was super long when we reached around 3pm. There was no priority queue for Musuem Pass holders. Interesting to take a tour around the palace. Palace is big and will take around 2hours to complete. Did not had sufficient time and energy to visit the gardens but the gardens look amazing. Suggest to reach early in morning in order to complete the full place.

A piece from the fairytale. Dream of Louis Quatorze. Reading a bit of its history would definitely give one better understanding (also chills) about this palace. Visiting this, one of my earnest dreams of came true ....

We came from Paris by train to find a gigantic cue (3 hours!) With no clear instructions on ticketing ended up cueing on the wrong ticket register since we only wanted to see the gardens because of the long cue on the entrance of the castle.

(Very unfriendly service on that ticket register btw)

Gardens were beautiful though. Hence the extra star.
