Wonderful place but crowded like a subway during rush hour
Nobody can miss Versailles while they are in Paris. The place has been packed every time I go and nobody takes any notice of the no photo rule - but well worth checking it out.
Beautiful palace, lots of facts and tours going on but definitely way too many tickets sold each day as it is too crowded to enjoy the tour itself.
Go early in the day. Buy timed entry tickets online. It'll be worth the extra fee. Bring snacks to eat when you're in the garden area. Bring selfie stick. Gorgeous place!
We went on a tour, which in my opinion is the way to go since the place is just too large to undertake on your own.
We came right before it rained and hailed and literally ran back after visiting the gardens.
Read up ahead and know what you want to see so as not to waste time on the actual day.
Why only three stars?!!!! Three stars is for the slow snail moving looooong line and too much of crowd inside the palace until I cannot breath. To be frank, the palace administration shall limit the # of visitors and create quota for proper viewing of the internal design of the palace as well as safety purpose of old building. I will give 7 stars for the chateau and the jardin. I went there in a group with official tour guide (cheap one) during last winter. I was super exicited to see the real garden that was showed in the movie of 'A Little Chaos (2014)'. Must go place especially during sping.
Visited on a Sunday. Very, very busy, Over-Crowded in fact which spoilt our visit. Will go again at quieter time
In my opinion new Covid restrictions helped my experience. Almost no lines and fare less people
Such a beautiful building and surrounding gardens. So much more expansive than I imagined. No wonder the peasants revolted!
Worth the trip but does get very cramped and crowded inside.
Absolutely gorgeous, exceeded my expectations in every way.
The most beautiful place that i have ever see.Very beautiful.I rode a bike there and spent hours in the museum and inside the garden.I enjoyed my lunch and very fantastic experience.highly recommended
Love the palace and the gardens. If you are traveling and are anywhere near there it is a must see! Also, buy tickets ahead of time. :)
Stunning place and Outrageously beautiful grounds. Rude and unhelpful staff though. You need an entire day and please do not miss the fountains!
THIS IS A FREAKING MUST GO !!!!! EXTREMELY IMPORTANT : BUY YOUR PASS ONLINE OTHEWISE BE PREPARE TO SPEND 2-3 HOURS WAITING IN LINE IF NOT MORE. WHEN YOU BUY YOUR PASS ONLINE, THERE IS NOT WAITING. THIS IS A FULL DAY TOUR. BRING COMFROTABLE SHOES AND MONEY TO SPEND . A MUST GO !!!! BY THE WAY IT IS A CITY .
Gardens were amazing. Big queue for the palace though.
Go with a tour only. Waiting in line for three hours on a non-busy day. Inside was overcrowded and a poor tour. Would not do this again.
Beautifully stunning palace. Highly recommend visiting first thing in the morning. You'll be able to walk through the garden nearly empty and then visit inside. You can re-enter the garden all day as long as you keep your ticket.
Go for the gardens. We waited in line for 2 hours just to get in. The palace is hot and stuffed with school groups. Rent rowboat on the canal.
So gorgeous
Loved every bit and would definitely visit again and again! Especially the night shows
Beautiful place. Go after noon but give yourself enough time to see everything. The gardens are beautiful
Beautiful. Stunning. .. a must see. Versailles its self is a nice town as well. We stoped in one of the first souvenir stores on the walk to the palace and found AMAZING deals. I wish i remembered the stores name. The touques they were selling in paris were 20 euros and they were 5 euros in this store! So try to find it. The man who owns it is lovely too.
We did the main palace and a bit of the Gardens in half a day. Beautiful palace with immersive explanations from the audio guides. Very awed by the amazing wall murals and paintings. Unfortunately the crowds were just way too stifling and there are only 2 toilets in the entire place, thus a visit to the toilet may take up to 20mins for the ladies. We took the priority tickets with a side gate entry. Glad we did because the queues might have taken about 2-3 hours at least.
The actual palace was grand, however the grounds... It is exquisitely kept, classical music as you walk about. Loved being here, we spent a good half day in the grounds I don't think we scratched the surface. I highly recommend going later in the day for the palace as the tourists boards are bigger in the morning, we even overheard someone who works there say "all these stupid bloody tourists queuing all morning, look at the place it's empty now" this was around 17:00.
The chateau of Versailles is one of the most spectacular things that I ever see. I reccomend you so much to visit it and spend a time just discovering the spaces. If you decide to take the audioguide don't spend so much time on the ground floor. The important things are on the first level. Don't lose the chapel, and if you have opportunity visit the theatre. I reccomend you so much to visit it. If you are interested to diacover more about art and Paris follow me on youtube: Art is Life Gerard Vidal. Have a nice day!!
If you're staying in Paris, it's well worth a day trip out to Versailles (only 1.70 each way when we visited and you get to ride a double decker train - novel experience for a brit)
It really is worth making a day of it to see all and I highly recommend downloading the audio-guide app (free on Google play and Apple store) it's free and we downloaded it in the queue - really brings the rooms to life as you get more of a story and history - it's free and easy to use.
First castle of Europe and worth watching it. I love it
Fantastic attraction to visit. Lots to see and lots to learn about French history. Audio assistance recommended as often there are no English translations, however the former is part of a reasonably priced entrance fee. Easy to reach by train and nice views of Pais from the distance.
Great experience to feel and know about france history.
A beautiful palace, thoughtfully restored. We visited on the centenary of the treaty that ended the first world war. When asked ' how many people knew this?' After a pause, just us.
This place must be seen to be believed! Such opulence and display of wealth and power of Louis XIV.....It's little wonder that the masses rose up and ended this abuse of the majority of the French people.
Absolutely beautiful, the gardens alone were magnificent. The hall of mirrors WOW
Atleast 3 hours wait even with the Museum Pass.. Did not go inside
It's a huge palace with big garden..... One should visit this place
Amazing experience . I advice to consider visiting the garden to enjoy the nature .
Absolutely gorgeous, but had to leave before getting inside due to a 2 hr+ wait in line.
Fantastic interiors, great to walk around. And it's great that it's free when you are under 26.
But the queue for the house was an hour and a half also the queue is not for the garden. Don't leave the house without finishing looking around.
Very very nice and clean thank you for your efforts
I really didn't like the palace of Versailles all that much. The waiting queues are horrendous, even with advance tickets, during the summer season. I went in February last time and it was a breeze with no waiting times at all, but during summer it's just awful.
It's more of a museum than a palace really and while it's still super opulent, I just didn't enjoy it as much as Windsor Castle or the Louvre.
The gardens are absolutely worth a visit though and usually have much shorter queues as well!
Don't visit if you hate waiting in long queues! The lines to get into the Palace are ridiculous! 2 Hour wait MINIMUM! Definitely not a place you want to visit if you have small children! Once you get in you will be pushed and hurried along! The only way I can recommend this place is if you get a private tour! If I ever do visit again I will be doing this!
idk seemed like a tourist trap, nothing interesting inside the palace. BORING the line was 4 hours long and purchases tickets in advance.
Brutally exhausting lines. The rooms were crowded. We were constantly being pushed out due to the ques behind us. We spent 2 hours in a line. Tickets weren t refundable either. My advice is to go early in the morning or think twice before spending 2 hours in a line.
Skipped the Palace and spent the day at the garden instead. Absolutely gorgeous
Long waiting time to enter the palace (1.5 hrs) because of the ancesion day weekend but was worth the wait
Must visit if you are in France! Filled with history, vibrant colors and lively stories. A full day of discovery and awe. A lot of walking but there are rentals> there are bikes, electric bikes, golf cars, boats, pedalos< Luxurious gardens and luscious secret meetings spots, places where so many plots and intrigues and forbidden interactions happened! Art and debauchery, conservative and extravagant ! Every kind of history lover will find this fascinating!
Wonderful visit completely ruined by tens of thousands of visitors arriving at the same time, many of them jostling, pushy people from the Far East. Colossal queues to get in if you don't buy a more expensive queue-cutter ticket. Very poor signage both in the chateau and the gardens. Will NOT be going again!!
If you go in summer beware of the heat! Beautiful place, don't miss out on the amazing gardens
A lot o history, take the day for enjoy, garden, battle session, the walls, everything wonderful
Beautiful palace with the Hall of Mirrors. Take a couple of hours to see the huuuuuge garden.
The palace is magnificent, the garden is majestic, but they are so unorganized. No one can speak English, my mom felt sick and they couldn t help us, they just offered to take us to the hospital. People stood in line for over three hours. A lady lost her son and nobody helped her.
It must be beautiful and amazing inside.. but u buy a 27 per person and still stand in a long ass line. Pre buy= buy on the spot. Currently in the long ass line :)
Nice garden and good shelter during summer especially in those trees labyrinth :)
Please notice that from Paris Metro, you need to literally go out from metro and then use your RER C ticket to enter the gate again so you will have your ticket stamped by the gate and avoid 50 euro (or 35 euro if you can show your metro ticket) fine from the security inside the train.
Amazing palace but you can't buy water or rent a golf cart after 6PM, which is not very convenient considering that the Passover is open until 6:30 and the gardens until 8:30. The cafes and restaurants are closed by 6 as well.
Amazingly beautiful. Buy your scheduled ticket to avoid spending precious time in huge lines...
a beautiful place to visit but the are so many people it was hard to enjoy. be prepared for at least 1.5 hours in a queue unless u get there b4 opening times. Signage is very poor so be be prepared to be lost. Information on line and in brochures particularly about fountains is very misleading. Toilets are not the nicest but they r there!
This sprawling palace with monumental seven hundred rooms along with beautiful garden, ponds and canals bears the history of French revolution. Louis XIV transformed this ground in 17th century. It is divided into four main sections.Main attractions are Hall of Mirrors,a large ball room with massive mirrors on one side & windows on the other.Marie Antoinette's Estate,Trianon Palace,Gardens,Canals. History of the France is depicted here through pictures, paintings, furniture, frescoes, statues, sculptures etc.from Louis XIV to Antoinette,Louis XVI,Napoleon.Royal Chapel dedicated to St.Louis is two storied with galley for the royals. It will take almost a day to cover the estate.Keep in mind that this place is always crowded & be prepared to wait in a long queue before entrance.Must for a visit to Paris.
Spent the day here. Could have spent two or three. As it is huge and amazing. Just wasnt impressed after purchasing a skip the line ticket wasnt permitted in with said ticket. Was told to go to the back of the queue . Not ompessed so it took an extra hour to get in. Why i will never know.
.
Beautiful palace. Audio guide can be downloaded from Google play store before visiting. Would have been nice if the park entry was included in the palace ticket everyday.
The palace is huge. It's very recommended to rent a golf car in the garden
Very special building ,but every body have to wait more than 1and half hours .
Yesterday was raining day around 12:00noon to 4:00 pm.
Over 2-3 hundred people were wet.
No trash can around there , n very disappointed.
One of the most incredibles places that I have been.
This place is too crowded. Something should be done about this he number of people let in at a given time.
I had studied French history at school. It was great to actually visit and bring to life this history.
An enjoyable day with lots to see.
Multimedia guide very helpful and interesting
Beautiful! Sooo Crowded!!
The Gardens were expansive & Lovely!!
A lot of parking areas! The ticket fee is 18 per person. Available to pay by cash and credit card.
The palace is very huge. I love the garden and the swan in the pond. The hall room is very elegant. The audio guide is available for 6 languages. I recommend this place if it's your first time in Paris. You can take RER C instead of using private car
Beautiful palace, arrive early to avoid the queues, it gets VERY busy
The chateau is beautiful, but the gardens are impressive. You can walk and relax in the estate, and there are some places to get some food. People relax over the grass at some areas, and you can rent some vehicles to go around. A beautiful place!
History is rich and amazing to learn about but the actual beauty and splendor of the palace and the gardens are overrated IMO. If you just go by yourself without a tour guide or expert I don't think you'll truly enjoy it after about an hour of the initial hype and picture taking. 100% go on a guided tour or you'll be bored out of your mind. The beauty of the palace itself is completely torn apart by the hundreds of tourists shoulder to shoulder with you, old women pushing you to take a selfie with the Queen's bed, and the heat! The gardens are refreshing, I went in the summer so some things looked dead but the little garden where Marie Antoinette hung out was gorgeous...fun to explore but the touristy tourists ruin the experience.
Amazing palace with many rooms decorated in garish colors and opulent furniture. The line to get in was very long (we waited about 1.5 hours), which made for a not so great experience inside. The palace was packed, which made it difficult to get around. Be sure to get your tickets before jumping in the main queue, as the line for tickets can be long.
Best place for those who have interest French monarchial history..
Just wow! Gardens are amazingly well kept. And HUGE. Did not even get down to Marie-Antoinette's chateau. Quite interesting how power and wealth were symbolised back then. Suggestion: Hire a cart for the garden.
One of the biggest palace I have ever visited with beautiful painting and history. There's a gigantic garden with beautiful decorations.
In A Nutshell:
-Versailles is a place in world history where you walk around in "awe".
-To see how opulent & rich this chateau was, is just crazy.
-The "apartments" are very big rooms w/ little to no privacy.
-It's very helpful to grab a pair of headphones so you can learn about each room & who lived there & how the royalty lived.
-Be prepared to face mass crowds as you wander from room to room, building to building.
Overall, once you complete the tour of Chateau de Versailles, you still have the gardens to visit, which cover even more ground.
Beautiful palace. Work several trips to see it all. Queens rooms currently closed, but still great to see. Takes several hours to see it all.
Nice building and rooms with a fantastic garden. However, the amount of people was crazy. Like trying to walk to the first row at a popular concert.
The Queen's quarters were closed, but aside from that it was a magical couple of days.
Amazing place to visit but there are a few things that were disappointing. The palace is beautiful but I expected to see a lot more inside. I understand that not much was left to pick but there could be rooms recreating the times somehow, the only thing there is to see is the chambers. They are still great rooms but I expected to a lot more. The best thing was the battles room, the paintings are incredible. The gardens are really neat and the fountains are beautiful but only a few were working, that was the most disappointing thing. For the tickets and parking price, and in comparison to the Louvre, it stays far behind in the whole experience.
Magnificent. Wear comfortable shoes to see the entire grounds.
it's really good Place to see and huge Garden!! it could be really crowded so go in the morning itself. You can easily spend a whole day there.
Much bigger than I expected. Beautiful palace. Definitely worth the visit.
There is nothing new to say, everyone knows this is a must go visit. So my recomendation is to go really early because of the big lines, the very long distances you will have to walk and go with the museum pass to avoid extra charges
The Palace is beautiful even from outside, we were interested just in gardens and he had our luggage with us, they told us we need to buy ticket for palace not only for garden or take our luggage to the garden. So we decided to go to the airport, we couldn t understand why is the drop off point for luggage only inside the palace. Staff in the section A and B gave us very confusing information about the luggage, so we were walking around with everything 1 hour and nobody really gave us helpful info.
