Not sure why my last review is missing . One of the worst experience I had here . My wife got admitted here for c section . After delivery they moved us to a room where there is an AC without remote . It was freezing and my new born baby was shivering . I asked them multiple times to help , finally the lady rudely told me to stay in a cafeteria which was a public place with vending machine and microwave . My wife and 1 day old baby had to sit there for couple of hours . Now coming to their billing , I could not understand the system . I made a payment plan for all my dues . Every month I get a letter saying your account overdue , I call billing ask them , they say its all set up . Billing would never give any information on writing and next month I get a overdue letter again . Finally I asked patient relation to schedule all my payment and give me written confirmation . I got a written confirmation saying all my payment are set up I have zero due . But after email confirmation saying I have 0 dues they send my case to collection agency . I am trying to explain to collection agency that either its a system error or human error and I am still struggling to resolve this even after 15 months of my wife C Section in Vanderbilt . I would not recommend this place to anyone .

My wife was air lifted here. She was pregnant and was losing alot of blood. The placenta was detaching from the uterus....she lost 2.5 pints of blood and given 4 pints for a transfusion...the emergency surgery team was A+. However when they couldn't figure out why my son couldn't gain weight I started questioning things. They only want to feed him 20ml every 4 hours. When he is in the nursery that's how they fed him. Everytime he was in the room with us 20 ml was no where near enough. He would eat 35 ml with no problem. When they came and weighed him after we had him he was fine. Everytime. But when they had and fed him he mysteriously kept dropping weight. This led to a longer discharge of course. Not a big deal except hes not premature....breathing on his own pooping and peeing just fine, opening his eyes and passed all hearing, vision, and carseat test. This is day 5 June 19th 2019 and they have moved us to a "family room" is what they call it. It's almost the same size as the bathroom inside the room. This is no family room. Plus my wife mind airlifted here 4 pints of blood to save her life and having a c section was taking the all the medication prescribed but could not get comfortable on the tiny couch.....mind you the only thing holding her stomach together was 13 pieces of tape and surgeon glue ...so I went to ask a nurse about a fold out cot or a reclining chair....I had found a nurse and asked about this reclining chair that was not in a room ,did not have a sign on it saying "in use" and literally just sitting there not being used by anybody....so as I asked the nurse about the chair not only did she have a attitude, treated me as if I were scum .....but raised her voice at me and told me that she would just have to deal with it and get over it...I tried to explain my wife's situation to her but again I was cut short and told(not asked) but told like a child to go back to my room. I asked the nurse for her name for she did not a have any identification card on her shirt pants or anywhere....THIS IS THE BIGGEST PROBLEM SHE REFUSED TO GIVE ME HER NAME SHE SAID SHE DID NOT HAVE TO GIVE IT TO ME.....so very frustrated I did return to my room....PEOPLE A HOSPITAL THAT WILL NOT HELP.....THEY DONT CARE.....THEY TREAT YOU LIKE YOUR SCUM.....THE PLACE IS DIRTY....SOME DOORS ARE NOT EVEN SECURED PAST THE 9 O CLOCK CURFEW.....THERES A SERIOUS PROBLEM WITH THIS PLACE AND STAFF AND SECURITY....DO NOT GO HERE.....NO CONSIDERATION WHATS SO EVER.....THIS NURSE WAS ON THE FOURTH FLOOR SHE IS IN HER MID 50S AT LEAST ,WHITE, 5'5, 130LBS ,DIRTY BLONDE HAIR.....I WOULD NOT HAVE WROTE THIS REVIEW OR TOOK THE TIME TO DETAIL IF I WASNT CONCERNED FOR OTHERS SHE MAY INTERACT WITH.....sincerely Charles cain

I loved Vanderbilt and the team in the past. That being said I took my child yesterday because he was sent years ago for a Pectus problem but his doctor moved on elsewhere. He started having problems with breathing and pain. I saw Dr. J Upperman he was the worst. He didn t want any of the forms and stated I prob googled stuff before coming in. Dr. Upperman advised me to start back with PCP. I would recommend anyone that gets Dr. J Upperman to run as fast as possible the worst ever.

I went to a doctor at Vanderbilt because of ear pain. She told me I had an ear infection in each ear, and prescribed a very strong steroid. Two days later, I saw an ENT at Vanderbilt and he said I had ZERO infection and to stop taking the steroid. He recommended I see a dentist because perhaps my ear pain was caused by grinding my teeth? So I did. Of course, I wasn't grinding my teeth and seeing the dentist solved nothing. Now, 3 months later I still have ear problems. I am going to have my ears irrigated and hope that helps. I have always liked Vanderbilt until this happened. How can 1 doctor say I have bilateral ear infections, and 2 days later a different doctor say nothing is wrong? Also, why didn't any of the doctors recommend ear irrigation... which I hear is proven to stop the ringing and pain in my ears? I am frustrated to say the least.

I am beyond pleased with our experience at Vanderbilt. Every single person we encountered treated us with love, respect, and compassion. This will be our hospital of choice so long as we are in Nashville.

Most of the staff is not "Family" friendly of patient's being cared for. I gave them my cell phone number to contact me about my Dad Care, but when the Doctor's called they had an attitude with me because of Hospital Policy, but He is my biological Father. If I could I would give them a negative stars for treatment of Family members.

Horrible. If you or a loved one has cancer I highly suggest going to MD Anderson. We would be in/out in two hours, at Vandy 8 hours +.
Vanderbilt is very disorganized. One Dept does not know what the other is doing. Vandy needs to revamp their procedures.

My wife was a direct admit with a brain tumor. We were admitted to the hallway of the emergency department for over FIFTY hours. After a fight broke out at the foot of her bed, I raised hell with the charge nurse. We were sent the next morning for a biopsy that never happened and left in pre op for eight hours with no med or food. ( she had been fasting since midnight). Now we are here again, not much has changed. We were scheduled for chemo on friday, that was canceled because she was too sick. She received fluids and was set home.Extremly sick, we were back on Sunday, still sick and have been here all week with very little improvement. This place is so big and so unorganized that nobody knows what the hell is going on. There is no communication between Doctors and nursing staff. There is very little communication between the Doctors. The experience here has sucked at best. One positive note, the nurses and the staff on the floor go above and beyond to assure that the patient is taken care of. Come on vandy, you can do better than this.

They refuse to help homeless people that are suicidal. They would rather put them back on the streets instead. When asked for a patient advocate they gave a number nobody answers and nobody returns calls.

They have excellent nurses ....I would know about doctors ...while I was in intensive care I never once actually saw a doctor .. The nurses would take pictures on an iPad and thara how the doctor treated me I was in the burn unit ....I think we could have a great burn u it here at U T hospital in Knoxville Tn ....I believe the doctorsthere could do what they did in nashvillecauae when it first happened that's where I went and I saw a doctor and theytreatednejustgreat and at vandwrbuilt big nameijuatreally expected more from them . there was no getting to know the doctor treating you ....so distant....no personalizationbetween doctor and patience . I'm sure they earned therename of being a great hospitalsomehow cause my granddaughter went to a doctors office thereabdthetwere alright withherbut her mom ....my daughterwentthere for the same reason years agoieven remember the doctors name after all these years and he was so cold and spent like10minutes with us ......we drove almost4 hrs in the darknotknowing nothing about Nashville for him to say 5 words to us and sending us on our way the doctor she saw in knoxville was absolutely wonderful it's just I believe the doctors need to know us and we them ....especially before you go home to know your the type of person who will follow the regimine ....I don't see how you can treat someone without knowing a little about them . I just didn't have a good experience ....twice .... But othersmayhave wonderful experiences and have great doctors and maybe I just was unlucky and got uncaring doctors ....twice but I'll say the nurses who really did take care of me were wonderful I give them 5 plus stars but I'm a truthful person and I'll not lie and this was MY experience . Thank You

would have gave a zero for phone communication. my son has been on the kidney trasnsplant list almost four years and we get a yearly call but today 3-11-19 the call came private my phone never rang and I see it 3 hours later in my call log. how does someone call from the kidney tranplant team from a private number and leave a voicemail. Why is the call private. Yes angela I mean you its very unprofessional. MY QUESTIONS IS HOW IS THE CALL GOING TO COME WHEN THERE IS A KIDNEY AVAILABLE. The number you left is in my phone I answer all 615 area code calls. This is the first year I had a problem.

My wife was transferred to Vandy after her diagnosis of leukemia. After not being able to have an ambulance to transport her, I took her in our personal vehicle. All the arrangements were already made to be directly admitted and we were met with grace and effectiveness. After being admitted and arriving in her room, the Drs and nurses were the best. That were very professional and encouraging with the treatment. The patient food leaves a lot to be desired, but the patient care is impeccable. Highly recommend this facility. Great place.

They were the best during my two surgeries and hospital stays last month. He had 2 major spine surgeries and everyone was awesome in his care. Dr Christopher Bonfield and the spine team were the absolute best. The 6th floor nurses and staff in both the North and South wing took such good care of him.We appreciate their care and the attention they gave to us so much.

4.5 stars: as good as a U hospital can get. was here on 2-mo rotation, having seen the inside i can tell you - they do some really good things here. V thorough with their workup, they're into advanced research as well, always looking up and putting into practice novel stuff. Staff is V busy given their Large referral area, but they do their best to keep up n do their best. i would certainly admit a family member here than any other place in TN!

Vanderbilt University Hospital is one of, if not THE, best medical facilities in the world. They stay on top of all the best medical practices out there. As a veteran, when the VA cannot handle a particular medical problem, Vanderbilt is where I prefer to go. Unfortunately Vanderbilt is popular, rightfully so. But this makes parking suck a little bit. Absolutely no complaints about any provider I have seen there, and no complaints from family members who have visited either. Vanderbilt is a modern miracle and should be listed as a great wonder of the modern world.

my sister had a cranioplasty today . Surgery was supposed to have been at 11;30. They had a emergency surgery which I understand. Finally they did surgery at 5;20 or took her back then. She was in recovery at 8 pm. Dr. Konrad said will will go to a regular room. NOT. Her room has still not been cleaned after 2 hours. This has been horrible service and I thought Vandy was supposed to be the best. Well my opion you need to get with it. Baptist has you beat . Worst experience I have ever dealt with. And my mother is just sitting in the waiting room by her self. the nurse Steve said he would come and get her. He was very polite but he has not been around since. PITIFUL

My brother had a rare form of cancer and had surgery at this facility with Dr. Chang. You would think they would be interested in keeping him alive and doing close follow-up. His last appointment was at 10:30 am , finally at 4:30 pm he left without seeing the doctor because the valet parking was closing. Really? Can these people not schedule appointments any better than that. I fear he will not return....so where does that leave his test results and follow-up? We would not be upset if this was the first time....but Oh my it is definitely not. Over the last 3 years this has sadly been the norm.

I have been paying on my Vanderbilt bill for 3 months and they sold it to a collection agency because apparently I didn t see the set up payment options if you can t pay in full. It s bologna. Not everyone can pay their medical bills in full and to do this to me I will not be back. I m so upset!!! I have hundreds of medical bills and do not need this bull because I was on top of paying this!!!!!!!!!!!

I went to Vanderbilt ER with a seriously painful flare up of my Crohn s Disease. The pain of this ailment is out of this world. I was supposed to receive prednisone for it. However, two doctors by the name of Dr. Allie Reinbold and Dr. Overbee decided to pick me to torture that day. They decided that the side effects of steroids (which are long term and not immediate and did not apply to my situation or medical history ) were more important than immediate relief from the monumental pain I was enduring. All I can say, as a mother with two daughters who are likely to inherit this terrible pain, I pray you avoid this hospital and the diabolical, insidious, and callous doctors there at all costs! Their efforts were malicious and my treatment deplorable.

2 and 1/2 years ago I took my son which was only 6 months old to have three surgeries done in one and I had the best experience possible i couldn't be any happier but the reason for only three star's is that my youngest son had to be put in hospital so I loaded my son up and took him 3 hrs away to Nashville checked in at ER and the doctor was rude the nurses were rude and I will never be back to the ER for any reason

I can only sing praise of my Surgeon he is a gem. ...

I can only sing praise of my Surgeon he is a gem. My Dentist is fantastic who I cannot sing more praises for and her leading me this individual whom I have utmost respect for. I wish that could be said for many others I have encountered this past year in that puts the "Odd"yessey that would make Homer's seem bland.

To walk into the morning of your procedure and be scolded and reprimanded by the check in desk for coming to the wrong location, given the wrong directions by her in turn, then demanding payment when I paid the day before did not set the right tone. That was the first flag

By the end of the day the flags on the field were numerous. This day was surreal. I suspect this is the norm as I am constantly told there is a massive problem with communication there and it is clear that is between departments, between individuals and especially to patients.

And given others complaints it seems to center on scheduling and pre surgery information. They need to truly work on this issue it affects every aspect of care.

Came for a 3pm appt, didn't get called back till 340pm. 4pm, no doctor in sight. These offices don't respect patient time anymore. It is only about how many people they can cram in and how much money that equals. The 3 stars are for the competent, kind staff dealing with shuffling too many appointments through.

*This is for the office in Clarksville, TN, just off Warfield Blvd

The entire staff was great front start to finish. I went to Vandy ER yesterday Jan 5 2018 around 130pm with what I knew were a few broken ribs & thinking my nose was broken too. While there after x-rays & cat scan learned that I had multiple facial fractures & would need facial surgery to correct it. Being a single daddy of a 3 yr old & also being from out of state. The staff allowed my son to accompany me the entire time. They made sure we had plenty water snacks etc. Around 1130pm even though potty trained my son peed on himself & the nurses went out there way to get him a change of pants socks etc due to me forgetting his bag in my vehicle. We were there from around 130pm 01/05/18 until around 730am 01/06/18 due to amount of test needed & specialist needed to be called in. However, again the entire staff was great & made us as comfortable as possible. I highly recommend Vanderbilt & will share my experience there as often as the topic comes up.

I have had the absolute worst experience with this...

I have had the absolute worst experience with this hospital in the last few weeks. I had a scope done last week, waited forever, the nurses were excellent but the doctors and residents were terrible. I have a condition called interstitial cystitis which is very painful and when I have scopes it causes me to be in a ton of pain. They were aware of this and my doctors left and gave me nothing. I was screaming and crying so a doctor who wasn t even part of my care sent me home with pain meds and bladder spasm medicine. This week I went to the ER (I was transferred from Williamson via ambulance) bc I had sepsis. I was kept in the hallway, and then in a ER pod overnight after I was admitted. The next day I was moved to the hallway of the urology floor and then finally moved to a room. They had been giving me pain meds every 4 hours and were seriously going to send me home with nothing again. I ve never had this experience with any other hospital in my life and I will avoid Vanderbilt at all costs.

They were all okay but Allie in the ER was AWESOME! She went above and beyond to assure that I was as comfortable as possible. I have came across some nasty people in this profession but she is nothing like the horrible people I've dealt. It really made my heart smile while I was in the ER. I'm glad you guys hired her 5 for Allie!

I had my first child here and there is a reason I did not go back to VUMC to have my second child. They let me labor for over 36 hours even after loosing the baby's heart beat multiple times. The person who did my epidural did not tell me he was a student and he missed putting it in correctly 2 times! The third time the actual doctor came in. I had to ask for a cesarean. Once I was out of the OR and feeding my child for the first time a nurse comes in and tells me they forgot to take the epidural needle out of my back after the surgery. Also, one of the pediatric nurses made me break down because I was having a hard time keeping up with how much my son wanted to eat and when I wasn't producing enough milk she made me feel like a terrible mother.

HOWEVER, I did have the most fantastic labor nurse! Her name is Lauren and I can not boast enough about how wonderful she was. She helped me stay calm and helped me so much during those 36 hours.

Vanderbilt does not accept any policy purchased on the healthinsurance.gov exchange. Even if you have coverage you will have to pay again. I have Humana Nashville PPOx and my Dr. visit just cost me $500. This is after I paid the deductible and policy max out of pocket.

A family member had to go into the ER, and ended up with a 3-day hospital stay in TOBS. I was there for most of those days. The staff that provided care over those 3 days did a nice job. The PAs, nurses and care partners were caring, responsive, and helpful.

Top notch staff kind well informed and they never mind put things in terms you can understand.there's no other hospital that I would rather use in Nashville I've never been misdiagnosed and I've always been handled with the best care is if I was being treated by a friend. They are far above any of the other surrounding hospitals.

My brother passed away this pass weekend 8/8/2020 and no one knew where they took his body due to being a DOA. With that being said multiple people was trying to find where they took his body called around to multiple hospitals. So I was calling Vanderbilt and I didn't know my husband was doing the same thing. The person in the E.R. that answer the phone was very rude. She said to me ( I dont know why you keep calling we have not had any dead bodies come in. ) By the way I had her on speaker phone my mother, father, his wife and children heard the whole thing. This happened around 10:30pm to 12:00 Unsure of the correct time due to being upset just finding out that my brother had passed away. All I have to say is I hope that she never has to go through that trying to find a love one. All of the other hospitals was very nice and very helpful.

If i could give this place no stars I will.. If you are considering having your baby here because they might save their life do not even heatitate they will not do anything to save that babys life. My sister came here because she had complications with her pregnancy and they just left her baby die they did nothing to save that sweat angel one of the nurses that was coming to see the baby had huge nails and was cleaning the babys wound without gloves is that the baby was born with her brain outside her skull and with large kidneys but i seen stories of doctors saving babies lifes that are born like that. Plus with that they did a c section on my sister and did wrong where they hurted one of her intestines now she can not walk and is going to therapy plus of that they negleted her where no nurse will see her all day and she could not even stand to the bathroom thankfully my mom was with her everyday and cleaned her and helped her to the bathroom and did there dam job. I hope my sisters gets a lawsuit on them. Also i forgot she told them to tie her tubes and they cut them i also forgot they took forever to take her baby out because they told her that her baby was not that important. Now her heart is broken and she is looking to adobt a baby girl in a near future because she wants to give love to a baby she lost thanks to the negletion of this hospital.. Please do not have ure babies here if they have complications because they will be left to die and not only that they will mess u up physically and mentally ...

Received an estimate for elective surgery (full conversation was recorded). When bill came, it was dramatically higher (70%). I would not have agreed for this surgery if they had been transparent with costs. Wildly misleading. Discussed with billing department and patient relations with no proper resolution.

Currently in process of contacting BBB and filing a formal grievance to hospital through insurance carrier. Any suggestions for contacting medical or hospital boards would be greatly appreciated.

Note: will provide further updates here moving forward.

Had a toothache tried to go to their 24 emergency dental clinic somehow directions sent me to emergency room...got there was seen they did absolutely nothing to help me then waited 6 months to send me a 1200 bill for doing absolutely nothing. which payment was due last month.....these scam artists are what is wrong with the national healthcare problem...i will never come to this hospital again even if my life depended on it.

Never go to emergency room., we ended up waiting 10 hours and still no doctor showed up.. Receptionists dont have any idea when the doctor will arrive. This kind of behaviour for non covid patients with extreme stomach pain cannot be ignored in big hospital like Vanderbilt. Hate to have this hospital for this many years in Nashville.

I'm a dsp for prospectinc in Lebanon I drove to Vanderbilt everyday for a week the nurses was nice until Thursday morning the primary nurse name Tim was very rude no eye contact while I was talking he ignored me and walked out very unprofessional I was on the 6th floor in room 6025 wouldn't recommend him to be my dog nurse.

I have been a patient here several times. The ER is crazy busy and overall I would give it a 4 star rating. Inpatient would be a 5 star. My doctors and staff are top notch and very helpful. I would not go anywhere else.

The primary care was awful. I felt as though the doctor did not listen to what I was telling him, and then I got blood work done. I was told that I would need to access my results on My Vanderbilt Health. Despite me correcting two nurses and the doctor on the spelling of my name, this was never done, delaying my results. When I finally got access to the results, they were listed out in the way that a doctor would need to interpret them. I got no explanation, and on my results page it was notated that some records were not available, potentially because of "sensitive results". It wasn't for nearly an entire day that I heard back from the office, and then they sent me a letter that was apparently sent via the U.S. Postal Service two weeks ago. Vanderbilt is a great hospital for more serious and specialized matters, but their primary care is absolutely appalling

You hear people constantly saying how great this hospital is. Well in appearances it is great, it's a lovely place with lots of art and fancy structures but that's it. The care you get here is a mess. The doctors do not follow through with their care plans nor does patient care seem to be a priority. Zero compassion and zero common sense. If you want to sit in a pretty building and tell everyone you went to "Vanderbilt" by all means go there. If you want real care with a doctor who sees something more than a number go to another hospital.

Went into the hospital for a laparoscopic abdominal procedure and was to stay over night for observation. The pre-op and PACU staff was nice enough- no problems there. In the OR, I was absolutely treated like a slab of meat. Nobody made the effort to look at me, greet me or make any pleasantries whatsoever. I was transferred to the OR table, strapped down and the mask slapped over my face before I was even sedated. VERY unnerving to say the least. The day of discharge, I got home and got a good look at the three small incisions in my upper abdomen; two of the three were already showing infection (oozing green pus). Since the surgical dressings had not been touched since they were applied, it is obvious that the infection was acquired from a dirty OR. Required a visit to my PCP and a prescription. Within three days of discharge I was back at my PCP and was diagnosed with HAP (hospital acquired pneumonia); the direct result of a dirty facility. Long story short- I will definitely avoid Vandy in the future. I came out much, MUCH sicker than I went in.

I wish I could rate it a -2, st thomas west is worse -10!! There is 1 hospitalists here that is "GOD" I guess, he is over all spacialists I guess. When he is not here things are pretty good, would rate place 2 almost 3 stars. He now ordered a "babysitter" to sit in my wifes room with us!! Absolutely no need for her to be in here!! (She sits here and watches tv, I know right how do I get that job!!) Just to piss us off so we sign out ama!! "GOD" already knows we are making a complaint on him, so he is trying EVERYTHING he can to get us to leave like we did a month ago!! Yes we have asked to get a new hospitalist, but we are stuck with "GOD" till his week of POWER is over!! She has gotten no better since. So hopefully we will get "GOD" run out of here so this hospital can be good again!! MVGA!!

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. I have a crushed foot that hasn't healed after the operation they done. I stay in pain. Had to go to the ER and they wouldn't do ANYTHING for me. Had an operation on Wednesday and the nerve block wore off before I woke up. They gave me a pain shot and immediately released me before even letting the medicine work. This hospital is a joke!

The ER experience was horrible my son was flew there after a motorcycle wreck they don't clean you up you lay in whatever filth you have On you if it's blood or whatever. I went to Vanderbilt Medical Center as a self pay patient. I paid the full amount they asked when I walked out of the visit. I then got a bill in the mail saying I owed money. After several long phone calls with long wait times I found out they over charged me by several hundred dollars. I had to prove that I paid the bill and request to be paid back for the over charge. I had to then wait 2 weeks to get the reimbursement. I never got the money and I now have to call again. They said they got a new system and are having trouble. Horrible customer service! DOUBLE CHECK YOUR BILLS!

This was by far the best hospital experience I've ever had. I came to Vanderbilt to visit a family member in ICU and from the first moment we walked in to when we left a few days later the entire staff of the hospital was courteous, genuine and very helpful. Everyone from the nurses and doctors to the cafe staff and the front desk workers were all great! I'm so happy that my family was able to be taken care of in such a top-notch hospital, thank you all!

If you want to wait 6 hours to get a room and then wait another 3 to even hear from a nurse, and then wait another 4 hours before you are spoken to again. This is the place! And just to add how rude the nurse at the front desk was along with the fact that she didnt know what she was talking about.
