Doctors are rude and arrogant. They don't tell you what is wrong with you. They lie to you about aftercare appointments being set up for follow up but they don't tell your Dr what they made the appointment for. Don't go to Vanderbilt. Not worth the frustration and lies

I really appreciate having such a wonderful place ...

I really appreciate having such a wonderful place to go for medical issues. I was diagnosed Type 2 diabetic a few years back at age 51 and had an Anti- Gad 65 test to determine if I had Auto antibodies which would make the diagnosis for me as late onset Type 1. I did have Auto antibodies as the result so I should have been changed to a Type 1 but the Endocrineologist I had been going to refused to believe I could be type 1.
I kept getting worse and thinner so I changed doctors. I tried Vanderbilt and was ready for the same reaction saying I am a type 2. Right away after reviewing my medical record and blood test results I was diagnosed as type 1. They also spend time with patients, suggest medical treatment you should have done and really care about what you think, want and need! I never liked going to a doctor's office but now it's no problem! I will never switch from Vanderbilt unless my insurance does not cover that place. All office employees and doctors I have seen or spoken with are so kind and understanding.

My grandmother was taken there last week 7th floor round wing. I stayed with her most of the time and can say firsthand she received excellent care! Everyone that came in room no matter who it was asked if we needed anything at all. The doctors and nurses she had were absolutely wonderful! My grandmother loved her nurses! Keep up the good work!

Nashville has many places to choose from for healthcare. When I was having a slight emergency, I chose to go to Vanderbilt because I have always heard good things. However, I thoroughly regret ever going to that hospital for service. Being in healthcare myself, I know the standard of care I hold myself to, and this was far from it. The nurse in the ED was rude and basically called me a cocaine user, even though I have never done cocaine in my life. Upon discharge, I had to pay $150 upfront. After insurance, I got another bill in the mail for almost $2000 while I was in the ED a max of 3 hours. I applied for financial assistance since at that time, I was in school and barely making enough money to pay rent and other bills. Each month I would call to check the status of my application with little to no help. Eventually, I was told that no notes had been updated in the system and that I would need to re-apply and send in more documentation, which I did. I continuously had to call to check the status and was assured that I would not be turned into collections, which was not the case. I got letters from my employers that were requested showing I was barely working, supplied Vanderbilt with pay-stubs and tax returns and Vanderbilt refused to work with me, only requesting more paperwork. I am ashamed for Vanderbilt and how they treat patients after they are seen in the hospital. Patients seek treatment because they need it, and for hospitals to send them to collections and refuse to work with them in any way is disgusting and evil. What happened to caring for patients regardless of their ability to pay? When I was harassed by collections about paying and needing to set up a payment plan, they told me that I had credit cards I could put the amount on, furthering my debt and unnecessary interest fees. Also, if I were to set up a payment plan, there would be several fees with each payment I made. If I were to pay the amount in full, there would be a 3.5% service charge. This is setting patients up for failure in an already vulnerable time. I seriously hope the healthcare organization in which I am part of does not treat patients in this way. If you are in Nashville and need healthcare treatment, go anywhere but Vanderbilt.

Horrible centre to place one of the best doctors on probation because a patient's mother was offended by Dr. Eugene Gu for protesting white supremacy and advocating for basic human rights. Of a basic medical centre cannot stand up for human rights, then what can?! Release Gu from probation and call out the racist woman who filed a complaint against him.

I don't really want to say I loved this place, only due to circumstances of coming to a hospital, but it's a well running hospital. Staff is very attentive and does not treat you like a number. Valet parking out front and free parking in the garages. It's a big place, get a map for inside, unless you know where you're going :)

Terrible experience here with my family member aft...

Terrible experience here with my family member after a fall. No communication. All the nurses are maybe mid 20s and only care about their appearances and playing on their iPhones. They have no life experience and don t care about people at all. No compassion for the patients. They answer questions with I don t know or I don t have time .
Spent the night in the ER due to no rooms available. That place is so nasty. Waited all night and into the next day wondering what the plan was. Finally had emergency surgery almost 24 hours later! Transferred to room after surgery. Care has been a joke. My family member has been in bed for 2 days with no therapy no one checking on her. Only me to provide care. I have asked the nurses questions and they get defensive and rude. I will never take anyone to this hospital again. I am extremely disappointed in Vanderbilt. You should be ashamed in the care your nurses provide. Please hire competent nurses with experience.

My child was brought to the children's hospital by...

My child was brought to the children's hospital by ambulance for what we thought was an appendicitis. After sitting for hours in the ER, an ultrasound was completed and he was admitted for further evaluation. They couldn't see his appendix, so they weren't sure what was going on. I couldn't tell you how many different doctors and nurses came into his room just to poke on him and ask him the same questions. At one point, there were about 10 doctors (most of them students) and the head doctor actually said they didn't know what was going on and they wouldn't be able to figure it out, but they were fine with sending him home. They made no effort to find out what the problem was, even though his blood work showed elevated white count and platelets and the ultrasound showed swollen lymph nodes, & he had a low grade fever. We were finally able to get him in with a pediatric GI and she found the problem after conducting exploratory surgery a month later - which the other doctor REFUSED to do. Fast forward to today when I call them to pay them & I ask if they offer a discount for patients that are paying in full......and they do not! Most hospitals do, if you ask them. The ambulance service that brought my child in gave us a 20% discount for paying in full, but Vanderbilt--the World's Greatest Hospital--can't do that? Aside from the GI doctor that we were able to see (Dr. Thomsen) and my own knee surgeon (Dr. Cox), this hospital is a complete JOKE! Their treatment is horrible, especially when dealing with the children's hospital and they're not considerate at all of their patients financial needs. For all the money these doctors get paid to treat their patients like dirt, and yet none of it can be discounted. Next time, I'll let them take payments and wait for their money!

The worst hospital ever! I was in there cardiac un...

The worst hospital ever! I was in there cardiac unit on the seventh floor, On June 23. The nurse in charge Amanda was very rude. I was there 24 hours , and had 10 things go wrong. Every time , I complained the staff would say they were understaffed , and having problems with their help. I'll make this brief but to give you a short list , they gave me the wrong medicine, then they gave me half the dose I was supposed to get, then they didn't give me any of my medicine. They shot me full of the nuclear medicine to get a stress test done and then forgot to bring me down to get the stress test done. They then told me I was going to get a heart monitor to go home with for 48 hours, and never came to give me the heart monitor I waited 24 hours turns out nobody remember to order it or ask anybody to bring one . I didn't eat or drink for 15 hours I finally gave up and told them l was leaving , and the charge nurse Amanda , was rude ,and obnoxious , and just said have a nice day . when I told her they were a terrible hospital they complained that they were understaffed , and they were not a bad hospital. If you're in Nashville there is other choices . I would definitely not go here! I have a heart condition, and I left without my heart monitor, because nobody seem to know what they were doing . the nurses had no clue what the doctors were saying. I would definitely not go here! I have a heart condition, and I left without my heart monitor, because nobody seem to know what they were doing the nurses had no clue what was going on, the nurses actually asked me what the doctors were saying. There was no communication at all between the doctors and the nurses , and the patient . they had the wrong information in my chart , and nobody knew what was going on for over 24 hours I finally got nervous and left. The valet parking guy was nice that's about all I have to say good about this hospital. I actually thought I was on candid camera at some points, Because I can imagine so many things can go wrong on one visit. And believe me when I tell you I'm leaving about 4or 5 things out .

Because some of the other people are much sicker than u are. Gun shot or car wreck. But they are awesome. And I'm a 44 yr employee for the university. I do HVAC. I love working here. As well as my daughter a employee as well, almost 17yrs.as like daddy she loves her job. 16 years with the nurses.

I have heard so much good things about Vanderbilt Heart growing up when I had problems with my heart 4 years ago it was no hard decision to go there. From that point forward I have had the same heart doctors and some new ones . I can not say enough about the nurses and care givers that helped me this last time . This is all my opinion and I read some bad things about Vanderbilt and I just know how they treated me. I have been to other hospitals and will not go back because of some incident. These Doctors and nurses at Vanderbilt has always treated me with the highest respect. When I think about it there are so many people involved in saving my life and so many things can go wrong I want the best and those that will fight for me that is why I chose Vanderbilt Heart...I thank God and Thank you for saving my life.

I would normally never waste my time publicly rati...

I would normally never waste my time publicly rating a business but my experience with Vanderbilt University Medical Center has been extremely disappointing and aggravating. In April of 2019 I went to their facility for gynecological services. I received zero services. What I scheduled an appointment for required an exam (in my opinion) and I was not examined by a doctor and was made to urinate in a cup for reasons unknown. My appointment consisted of a friendly exchange of medical history and symptoms and I was sent on my way. I was then smacked with a bill close to $500. To make a very long story short, there was months of back and forth between myself, my insurance company, and Vanderbilt because I did not owe that much after insurance. Vanderbilt harassed be via mail and phone continuing to claim I owed $486.00 when in fact I owed $186.55. They finally conceded ad I paid the $186.55. Flash forward to today, nearly a year later, and I am smacked with another bill of $165.03 and I am not sure of WHY. I thought I paid for my bill already and the services on the bill are vague and include the name of a doctor I DID NOT SEE. It is impossible to get anyone on the phone to dispute this and I refuse to pay this bill until I know what I am paying for. IF I do owe this, why would Vanderbilt bill me two different times, months apart ??? How confusing! If I actually received medical attention and answers to the problems I was having, I would not be so frustrated. But here I am a year later and I am still having to pay for services I did not receive! The cherry on top is this, since then I saw another doctor and am told I actually need surgery for the reason I went to Vanderbilt in the first place! I would bet money that if this issue had been dealt with by Vanderbilt a year ago, it wouldn't be this bad. Now that so much time has passed, surgery is 'medically necessary' as my doctor put it. I will never refer anyone to Vanderbilt Medical Center because the lack of professionalism is outstanding and their billing center is a circus! Highly disappointing.

It is VERY concerning that this hospital is literally punishing Dr. Eugene Gu simply for taking a stand for American Civil Rights which seemed to have offended employees/staff that happen to be complicit with issues such as racism, bigotry, as well as suppression of free speech. The administration as well as the nurses responsible for this should be investigated thoroughly and ultimately terminated. Un-American bigots have NO PLACE working for an American Federal institution serving the American public.

What is truly concerning is how the bullying tactics used by the nurses as well as the complicity with the administration are literal manifestations of racial harassment from the pre-Civil Rights era except the difference being that minority Americans now are protected under law and can take legal action. The nurses and the administration involved in this specific incident need to be investigated and lose their licenses.

Floor 6 North has the worst staff. I was told by the doctor that one of his residents would come in and tell us that night when surgery would be scheduled for the following day. It's the next day at 12 and still no resident. I have asked multiple nurses multiple times if they would call or if they had heard anything. Her response was "it's not necessary to ask everyone who walks by."

The worst Medical experience we ever had. Our first appointment they kept us waiting for two hours. When we went up to the desk somehow they had deleted out of system. Back for our follow up and again the doctor is running an hour and half behind. Every time we called to get surgery scheduled, it was an hour wait time on the phone. If you have another option I would go elsewhere.

This is by far the worst hospital we have ever bee...

This is by far the worst hospital we have ever been to! My wife & I were traveling through Nashville on our way to Florida, and my wife became very ill. Since we were from out of state, I looked up the hospitals in the area and decided on Vanderbilt. We were very disappointed. I do NOT recommend this hospital for tourists or any other "out of towners". My first impression was that of a prison. There were actually armed security guards at the entrance, and we had to take all metal out of our pockets to go through medical detectors - just for the ER! It was like going through TSA - only we weren't flying or entering a federal building. The service inside wasn't much better. After waiting for over 2 hours, my wife finally got seen. However, I could not accompany her to the room because they have strict policy about not letting children under a certain age go back there. My daughter was 4, and I couldn't leave her by herself, so my wife was forced to go back alone. She was in a lot of pain, and after waiting for at least another hour, they told her that they could not prescribe anything for the pain, and that she would have to follow up with her regular doctor. We were 600 miles from home, and we wouldn't be back for over a week. In addition, she was upset, and couldn't even get a tissue. She had to walk around just to find a nurse so that she could get one. Then, she wanted to get in touch with me, but since I could not come back there my daughter and I had no idea that she needed me, and the nurses were not helping. Finally, a fellow patient had compassion on her and let her use her cell phone in order to call me. We finally just walked out. After a 3-4 hour ordeal, there was no diagnosis, no help, and the hospital had the gull to send us a $500 bill. No, I will definitely not recommend Vanderbilt University Hospital. Stay clear of this place - I would not even send my dog there! I love the state of Tennessee, but this hospital puts a horrible black mark over the city of Nashville. This is definitely NOT southern hospitality!

I am very pleased with our stay at the Children's hospital. Dr. Doyle and the nursing staff were very friendly, and had awesome bedside manners. They were kind and patient with our 8 year old granddaughter, whom had a heart procedure. We do not get this kind of service in our home town. Was here in 2007 with my dad, a cancer patient and had awesome service and care as well. These people have a caring heart. Would recommend to anyone. The care we received was well worth the 5 hour drive.

Wanted to give "0" star but don't have any option. We are new parents and unfortunately decided to choose Vanderbilt to bringing our baby into this world - BIGGEST MISTAKE that i have ever done. They are short staffed and would let you wait for hours even though I was 10 cm dilated, I waited for 5 hours before starting to push just because no body was there. Only one nurse was there in the room and she kept waiting for other staff members on duty.. and as a result, i had 25 hours of labor with 3c degree tier ( one stage before the worst i.e. 4 degree tier ).

I've had a hell of a month, and I owe Vanderbilt my life.

I have aortic stenosis caused by a bicuspid aortic valve. Up until August 19th, I was also pregnant. In my second trimester, it was determined that my stenosis had become extremely severe, and I was told to keep an eye on any symptoms that came up.

On august 10th, I went to my local ER for chest pain and tightness, where my symptoms were dismissed as being pregnancy related, and was sent home after ~3 hours with instructions to follow up with my OB. Instead, I reached out to my cardiologist, Dr Damp, who wanted to see me ASAP. I went to see her that Thursday, during which she determined that I should go to the main campus immediately.

While I was there I ultimately had a c-section (with a cardiology team ready and on standby in case something went wrong, as I was now a very high risk pregnancy), followed by balloon valvuloplasty for my valve just a week ago. Thankfully, both surgeries went better than we could have hoped, and I'm recovering well.

Everyone I talked to in Labor and Delivery, the cardiovascular ICU, and the children's hospital were great and sympathetic. They were also extremely knowledgeable and able to communicate information to me without talking down to me or leaving information out. The fact that the cardiology team ultimately figured out a way to prolong the functioning of my valve AND performed the valvuloplasty well enough that I have extremely minimal backflow and at LEAST a few more years before I have to get open chest surgery is something I will be forever grateful for.

My experience was quite literally life-changing and overwhelmingly positive.

This is some of the letter my father wrote to Vand...

This is some of the letter my father wrote to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN. I am appalled at the treatment he received for his revision knee surgery. He had this surgery through the VA, but with the lack of care or knowledge on the hospitals end, they should be ashamed to partner with the VA. How many other Veteran patients or general patients that have had surgery at this hospital and had received such lack of care? It should not be this way. One would think that the Harvard of the South would be exceptional in their medical facilities. I hope those who have had surgeries here get the proper care and treatment they need, especially Veterans.

"9-10 July 2018
I was told to be at the hospital at noon on 9 July to sign in and I would be taken back to the prep room to get ready for my surgery that would start around 2-230pm. I was at the hospital at 1145am and was not called back to go to the prep room until 230pm. My surgery didn t start until around 330pm. I was in recovery from 530pm to 1145pm due to the hospital not having a room for me. I was told the hospital does not reserve rooms.
When I finally got to my room, it was no larger than a closet. With the bed and equipment, the nurses had a difficult time maneuvering around to do their specific duties. The room had no windows.
When my gurney was inside the room I was asked to step off it and get on the bed in the room. Mind you I just had a spinal block for my knee revision surgery. I was asked if I could get on my leg I did not have surgery on and hop to the bed. I had started getting my feeling back in my legs but I did not feel strong enough to be able to stand or hop from one bed to another. I had to suggest that the bed in the room be placed to the side right up against the bed I was on so I could scoot over on to in. I did not receive any help whatsoever in getting not it. I could barely lift my good leg let alone the leg I just had knee revision in and coming off the spinal block. When I got in the bed a nurse told me that none of the buttons on the bed rail worked. Not even the nurse call button. I had to have my wife go to the nurses station to get them. It had come unplugged from the wall somehow.
I could tell they didn t seem to know anything about my surgery. I asked them if they knew what kind of surgery I just had. They said all they were told was I was coming to their floor from having surgery. I told them I just had a knee replacement revision and that is why I was needing help moving from one bed to the other.
I was told by my doctor, the nurse when I watched the knee surgery video and the nurses in the recovery room that I would have the lower leg compression devices to prevent blood clots from forming. I didn t get those, or type thereof, put on me until 410am. I had asked the nurse several times when I would be getting them for my legs. She said the first time they do not keep them on the floor and had to order them from another location in the hospital. She said since we are not in the main hospital they may not know where we are. A Deep vein thrombosis, DVT, could be a life threatening thing.
For the surgery I was to eat or drink nothing from Sunday night at midnight. As I stated above, I did not get into a room until midnight Monday night. So this was close to 24 hours without food and water. Now, the nurse in the recovery room did give me some crackers, peanut butter and sprite. But this was not really a meal . She told me when I get to my room I would get something for filling. I had to ask the nurse for some food and water. She said they do not really keep food on the floor but thought she had a couple of sandwiches or could make me a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. She did bring me a turkey sandwich and some water. She did have other beverages and she did bring me a couple of ice cream cups. To hold me over.
I had to ask for a urinal to use. I had not been asked if I needed a walker or other assistance should I need to have a bowel movement."

No joke this hospital has figured out how to maximize profits in every single moment - they are absolutely relentless at making you wait. If you have even the smallest thing wrong you will see a minimum of 3-5 different people who will ALL tel you they don't know what's wrong, and then you will wait 60-90 minutes for lab work. Every trip here is a minimum 3-4 hour event. I f****ing HATE this place

My husband doesn't like hospitals and he's usually in a bad mood. At this hospital, he was a happy person. One RN, Ching, on 7th floor North was so good to us both that I must mention her. Also, his kidney transplant doctor is a great doctor. She takes care of her patients as if they were her family. However, everyone was awesome! We won't use another hospital and we live in Alabama! He's actually been in this hospital several times. He's 73 years old and they have saved his life several times. He was on life support during one visit with 2% chance of recovery, and he survived. I can't say enough great things about this hospital!

The lasting memory is going to be being moved out of my room to a 'quiet room' waiting for my meds before going home. It was a great experience up to that point and went from 5 star to 1 star. Turns out that can refuse to go to the quiet room. I did not feel that I had an option. The staff in the quiet room talk to each other and make it quite clear that anyone refusing to go to a quiet room is selfish and keeping a bed from another patient. I had major surgery 2 days prior and knew that I could get to the restroom, etc. Now I am facing an hour plus drive home and am very unsettled. I get the concept and what they are trying to achieve but disagree with the practice.
I am waiting for meds. If the pharmacy can't have iterations ready in over an hour then do something else

If I could give this place..won't even call it a hospital - stars I would. First and foremost I have encountered four different doctors all specialist. I was diagnosed with Dermatological Lupus..I've had discoid leisons for 16 months..most on my face..they are becoming painful and the meds that were prescribed 6 months ago have shown not progress..as a matter of fact they've gotten worse.I contacted these quacks.the response was use OTC until you can get in with a dermatologist I'm leaving the country for a few weeks..what in the hell..this is one of serval incidents I've experienced at this place..and it was the last..I wouldn't take my pet rock to this place..they don't care about patients.

This hospital is absolutely horrible. They are terrible about calling you back, I have been trying to make an appt for my son for the last couple of months and they still have not called back, I even left a message with the patient advocate and still have not received a call. What made me the most upset was that my son was having difficulty breathing and two cardiologist blamed it on anxiety only to find out he needed major surgery in Cincinnati.

Just wanted to remind you that your statements regarding Dr. Gu are about as good as a child with chocolate all over their face saying they didn't eat any chocolate. Yet, even that is offensive to children because they should not be compared to egotistical, money-driven, despicable people like you. Yet again, anything we compare you beings to would be a disgrace to any breathing community. But it's fine, you're being professional.

This hospital has been a Blessing. If it wasn't for there compassion and quick actions my son and I would not be here. I'm so incredibly thankful to all the doctors, nurses and even the interns. Every single staff member down to the cleaning crew were so kind and helpful. I will never be able to thank them enough or boast enough about this hospital.

Great nurse's and doctors. Only thing i dont like is their environmental service's. Shouldnt have to hunt someone down just to get a room cleaned. Especially when its your own family members room.

Dr. Eugene Gu is a so called Doctor who spends his days tweeting insults against people on Twitter, instead of treating his patients. My grandmother was being treated at his hospital and his was the attending physician. As he was giving us an update, he stopped in the middle of our conversation and prognosis and coarse of treatment, to spend 5 minutes tweeting and giggling. After he was done he completely forgot what we were talking about and we had to jog his memory. This is not only rude, it s completly unprofessional. We asked the nurse about it, and she said he does this often and it s a problem.

My doctor in the internal medicine clinic is super...

My doctor in the internal medicine clinic is super, but the billing issues have been horrible. My Blue Cross program has a flat per visit co-pay of $30 and I go for an annual checkup and the bill comes in between $300-400. Vanderbilt appears to be balance billing, which is contrary to the Blue Cross contract. I'm looking for another provider.
Update - October 2019 My wife went for her annual OB/GYN visit, which should be a $35 flat copay under our Blue Cross plan. She received a bill for over $300 and Vanderbilt patient accounts was adamant was the amount owed. A call to Blue Cross determined the claim submitted was improperly filed...thanks Vandy - at least the you're consistent in screwing up the billing.
10/17/19 update - Blue Cross advised the amount owed is $10...so much Vandy's adamant position of owing $300+.

Dr. Michelle Roach performed my D and C surgery due to me miscarrying. Prior to the surgery, she introduced herself and told me I would not be able to have children unless I had an additional surgery. After my husband and I asked questions, she went to check the chart and realized she mixed my diagnosis with another patient. Her staff at the hospital also did not completely perform the pathology test. I will now never know the gender of the baby I lost. Losing a child is traumatic and dealing with a bad doctor has been even more stressful and grueling. Would not recommend Dr. Roach for anything. In addition, the doctor had her nurse call me three months after my surgery because I finally posted reviews - not because she was concerned about me or owned her mistakes.

My stepmom was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in the early 2000's. and has been cancer free since her surgery at Vanderbilt..yes, I said "pancreatic" and yes , I said cancer free..for about 15 years now........ I myself was diagnosed with medullary thyroid cancer in December 2014 and have been cancer free since my surgery in March of 2015..the staff is top notch, and the doctors are beyond compare. The surgeons..I can't sing enough praise for these blessed individuals that can go inside of our bodies, remove all the bad while maintaining the good. God bless them all.

I'm a heart patient that came in Nov. 20 at 2pm for chest pain and rapid heart beats. I did get back fast but once in the back everything went down hill. I literally layed in the hallway for 10hrs during my care. Other patients and their guest can hear everything about my care, was really embarrassing. Tons of people came in and got a room after I've been in the hall waiting for 10+ hours. I was admitted but still remained in the hallway. Apparently if you get admitted in the ER you get a new care team, so the current ER doctors can't help with any symptoms or problems you're having. My chest was in sooo much pain, which I expressed multiple times to my nurse after having to hunt her down on my own, but she couldn't do nothing but page and tell the other doctors since I was admitted, delaying my care. I sat in the hall for 3 hours in pain, just cause I was admitted but no one took me to my room so I could express my pain and problems. After 10 hours of sitting in the hall; trying to rest, taking meds, and explaining personal information about me while other patients are listening I finally had enough strength to get up and leave. This hospital does NOT follow HIPPA laws and regulations. They didn't keep me updated with my care and barely checked on me EVEN THOUGH I WAS IN THE HALL. Now I'm waiting on my ride in the waiting room and a nurse came and gave Mrs. Anderson, birthday 10/15/1982, a dose of antibiotics not caring about her privacy!

Vanderbilt is known for being a great hospital wit...

Vanderbilt is known for being a great hospital with some of the best doctors.

They may NOT be known for their scheduling practices and pre-surgery information for the patient and/or the person that is waiting with the patient?????????

Yesterday I had the worst experience at any hospital ever at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

My friend who is 75 years young and has high blood pressure and diabetes, was there for breast surgery at 5:30 am (we left her home at 4:00am) and for a 1 and 1/2 hour surgery, which we were told would be done between 10:30 - 11:30 am. They took her back for surgery at 1:40pm. Her surgery did not begin until AFTER 4:00pm and she did not come out of surgery until AFTER 8:30pm. They wanted to send her home after she came out of recovery, which would have been around 9:30-10:00pm. Can you imagine a 65 year old helping her into a Chevy Tahoe after breast surgery and getting to her home around midnight and helping her out of the vehicle by myself. I told the doctor that I had to go home. They left her in the holding room on the surgery floor last night, which was better than her going home, but in my opinion, they should have planned for her to stay the night in the first place.

If I had known that this would be an all day and part of the night event, I could have gone to work, but I missed an entire day and became very, very frustrated and angry with the experience.

PLEASE VANDERBILT COULD YOU WORK ON YOUR SCHEDULING PRACTICES.

P.S. I WOULD NOT HAVE GIVEN THIS POST 1 STAR EXCEPT THAT I COULDN'T POST THIS COMMENT WITHOUT MARKING SOMETHING.

Greatest place in the world if you have a chronic disease or serious conditions that need specialists. But internal medicine is not amazing. You can't get an appointment with a normal doctor. You have to go with a resident who looks at you like a text book.... Dr. Spain and Dr. Clark are both great, though.

My wife hasn't even seen surgery yet, but one thing is for sure, Vanderbilt is in it for the money! Every contact from Vanderbilt has been monetary, never medical. My wife has flesh-eating bacteria in her skull plate, they gave her a surgery date in 6 weeks, they won't prescribe any antibiotics or even talk to her. No bedside manners, they just want to be paid!

Pick a different hospital to deliver your child.

Pick a different hospital to deliver your child.

Nurse midwife, when breaking my water was actually scratching my baby s head with the hook. The scratches are incredibly deep and are still bad one week postpartum. This midwife never showed her face to us again after delivery.

They took my new daughter away to bathe her, which gave her hypothermia, and then sent her into distress with low oxygen levels, and she had to be admitted to the NICU. They later said she was fine, that the low oxygen must have been delivery stress.

I spent the two days after having my baby hobbling down the hallway to the NICU with stitches in me because there weren t enough wheelchairs.

Finally, we re one week postpartum today, and I got a call from my primary care provider. Apparently someone at Vanderbilt just noticed that I had a severe UTI while I was there. I had been begging them to check because I was in so much pain - and they didn t bother to look at the results for a week. A CVS minute clinic can handle testing for and treating a UTI, but apparently not Vanderbilt. This past week has been needlessly painful and difficult because of their negligence.

Run. Fast and far, to any other hospital. We overheard several conversations from nurses about being understaffed and hating their jobs there. Everyone was miserable, and this showed in every aspect of our care.

Edited to add: I contacted patient relations, they did a review of our stay, and did NOT EVEN ACKNOWLEDGE the damage to my daughter's head or offer an explanation. They still expect me to pay for the visit. This is unacceptable.

This place has TERRIBLE Communication. My stepdad ...

This place has TERRIBLE Communication. My stepdad was Admitted because he was leaning to the left. They did a CT scan. 1 dr. Thought it looked or appeared to be a bleed on the right side. The other dr. Thought it may be something else. They didn't give him his Blood Pressure medicine on Friday nor Saturday night. But, yet he had really high blood pressure. 150 - 180 and they did nothing. But wanted to give it to him the morning of Sunday but, he only takes it at night. They stated he needed an MRI but, wouldn't do this procedure until they received the Brand Name, Model Number of the clip.(we had the serial #) If the MRI was so important they sure didn't act like it was because they didn't do much demanding to get the correct information sent to them. My stepdad has had many MRI in the past since his clip was placed in. They wouldn't let my mother sign him out because they wanted to watch him. We could of watched him at the hotel for FREE. So, basically he sat in this hospital with no care. They didn't have him down as a stroke patient he had no help in his room. They wouldn't do another CT scan to figure out why he was leaning to the right. He has fascia where he gets confused a lot. He can't read. Terrible Hospital....
If you're a stroke patient go to the Tristar Skyline Medical Center (they specialize in Neurology)
