Regret refinancing with our local credit union, although we have all of our financial business there. Whilst we love the credit union for all the other things like checking, CDs, loans, the mortgage arm, TruHome, has terrible customer service.
They are SLOOOOOW in processing anything! It took so long to get the re-fi complete that they ended up doing 3 credit checks (normally 2: 1 up front, 1 before closing) - this reduced our credit score by 100 pts. Honestly, it felt like our home re-fi was the first transaction they ever did -- no one seems to understand the process at all. Scary.
They are just painful to work with - no one returns emails, calls in a timely manner. We had to file an insurance claim and the settlement goes to the mortgage company when this happens. They were so slow in just processing a deposit (it took 2 1/2 weeks after we personally hand delivered the settlement check), that the general contractor working on our house almost lost his subs because he could not get paid. Honestly, just trying to get a simple business transaction completely painlessly and timely is impossible with this firm. I'm so disappointed that credit unions use this firm (assuming it is really a third party). When possible, we will likely re-fi with another company because of the poor service with TruHome. I would not recommend. Same on us for not reading these reviews. It would have saved us many headaches.
