It's an outdated hotel in the middle of everything. The location is the only reason why i give it 2 stars. The walls are paper thin so you can hear all of your neighbors, don't be fooled by the lobby pictures the rooms are a lot less nice. I would only stay here if you need a less expensive place to stay close to most sights.

We were up in NYC for the night to see a show and spent ages trying to pick a hotel. I'm glad we landed on the Manhattan because the location was perfect. We were a short distance from Time Square and Broadway, but just far enough out of the action that it wasn't overwhelming. Check-in and check out were a breeze, and the elevators were always busy but never too slow. The rooms themselves are a bit outdated, but we're clean and suitable for a place to crash after a day in the city.

Well the truth has not been very good not to say nefarious, after waiting at the airport for 4 hours we arrived at the hotel, which is our surprise that the receptionist very badly educated, tells us that we have no room because we have arrived late and that we look for another hotel having it already paid from Madrid, when we got angry because we did not understand what was happening they give us a pretty dirty room with dust, with the curtains broken in order very bad experience

I booked this hotel online and the photos looked great! Got to New York, walked into the Lobby, it's still looked good. Got into the elevator, doors opened and that's where the nightmare began. As soon as the doors opened I was disheartened. The walls were extremely dirty, carpets stained and ripped, paint coming of the walls, and the smell was horrible. I went downstairs to complain and was given a full refund but I did have to fight for it. Counter staff became very rude when I asked for refund. While I was trying to get my refund, 2 other groups of people were having the exact same issue and were wanting refunds.
I paid an extra $100 and went across the road to the Sheraton. The only good part of this hotel was the door staff.

this hotel is disorganized and crowded. they failed to put our credit card on file at check-in, so the next day they locked us out until I put a card on file... but there was no note, email, or phone call explaining this, so I just had to figure it out. 40 minutes later security let me into my room, and I ate my now cold take out food. the elevators can take forever due to crowds and renovations. check out took a half hour because there was one clerk for a long line of people. the manager said he was not allowed to help check out because this is a "union shop." the room condition (renovated) was pretty good, but the bed was unsupportive. the cleaning staff was nice and helpful.

Went to NYC with my mom and had a blast. Senka from the reception helped us get the information we needed, arranged for us to have free breakfast and generally helped us a lot throughout the stay. Perfect location and friendly staff. Thank you!

Hotel staff was courteous and helpful. Allowed an early check-in and held our bags for us the next day after check out so we could continue exploring. Hotel is obviously a little older but that's nothing to knock a star off for. Rooms were clean, Location was great, and cost was very affordable. Our one first world grievance would be there weren't any outlets near the bed so charging our phone at night wasn't very convenient. Great stay over all and would come again!

My experience was very good. The hotel is clean and comfortable. Close to everything. We were able to walk to many places of interest. Just steps away we enjoyed the Macys stop. We have a view of the main avenue. At a good price to be the week of Thanksgiving and the perfect location of the hotel. I recommend it.

Decent location but the hotel was really really old and not well-maintained. The lobby looked okay so was expecting the upper floors to be okay. But our furnitures were rundown, lights broken, and had to call front desk to send someone to fix it. The hallway floors were uneven and the carpet was extremely dirty. Would not recommend this place.

I agree with most other reviews on here! When we booked on Expedia they didn t tell us about a hotel fee, so we were surprised by that when we checked in and they asked us for another $40 a day. The front of the hotel and the lobby was absolutely beautiful. The rooms however were outdated and our bathroom was nasty. There was black and red mold all over the tub and it looked like the carpet has never been cleaned. Overall the staff was pretty friendly, except that one guy who gave us back our bags. Rooms can use a lot of updating.

There's no fridge in the regular rooms.

Edit: Thank you for your concern. Despite the lack of a fridge, I felt happy and satisfied during my stay. Your staff in general treated me more than well.

Decent hotel and very well placed to visit Manhattan. Time Square 2 steps to enjoy the excitement NY. Have breakfast outside because the area provided by the hotel is undersized and therefore inaccessible when there are a few people, hence the 3 stars, and deco to refresh on the floors

The location is great .. but the service left something to be desired. I was with my brothers in a room and when we returned from a walk we felt a horrible smell (smell of mold with some very bad and strong perfume to try to conceal) we warned and said that there was no other room ... grudging and ironic reception. As my brother is a doctor and I have a lot of allergies .. he asked who would take responsibility if we went wrong .. was then that other room options appeared ..

Very lovely and professional hotel. The room was slightly less than anticipated for a times square hotel but nonetheless it was steps from the amazing strip of stores, bars, and restaurants. Easy subway access and plenty to do. I do wish there was a restaurant IN the hotel but there is plenty to eat around.

Great location. Don't let the outside and the lobby fool you. The rooms need to be updated. They are smelly and old. The hotel needs to invest in some better beds and update the bathroom rooms. The air was off on a 75 degree day not acceptable as much as the rooms cost. Will not stay here again

Was clean, but dated. Staff was friendly. Convenient location, close to time square, subway, Broadway, etc. The lobby was more upscale than the rest of the building. Bed was awful, pretty sure it was broken as it sagged on one side.

I used it for the countdown.

I used it for the countdown.
I was very happy!
I don't think there was a restaurant, but there is a cafeteria where you can have a light meal.
There was a reception and souvenirs next to it.
The post is also in the hotel, so I can send you letters, etc.
It's underground and I want to use it again!

I don't write a ton of reviews, but felt in this instance I should. I just checked out of my horrific stay at the Manhattan, and I'd like to warn everyone against staying there.

I travel to NY every other week for work, and usually stay in the Financial District. As the weather is changing and spring break is happening, the hotel rates sky-rocketed, and I ended up staying at the Manhattan, a good 25 minutes from work by subway.

Upon check-in I was greeted by a wonderful lady named Maxine, who was my only positive experience during my stay. In fact, she upgraded me to the Executive Floor on the 18th floor, which was a nice surprise. When I got back to my room on Tuesday, my key didn't work. After 3 trips down to the lobby, I was informed I had to move. There were a TON of workers on the 18th, which had recently been renovated, but a lot of cleaning people as well. I had smelled a strong odor of pot sleeping Monday night, so I assume whoever it was got caught, and they had to do a deep clean on all the rooms. No problem, as I had never expected to stay on that floor.

I move down to the 5th floor (eventually), and while the decor is certainly a lower grade than the 18th, the size of the room was 3x's as large, so I was perfectly content. Until...

That night I kept hearing a noise in the bathroom, and realized the water was running from the back of the tank. Leaving for work Wednesday morning I stopped the front desk to let someone know. But that was before I attempted to take a shower, which had ICE cold water coming from the shower head. I took the fastest shower of my life, and bathed with a wash cloth in the corner of the tub to keep from immersing myself in the water.

The worst part of the entire stay was attempting to sleep. The 5th floor is apparently the staging area for EVERY CART IN THE HOTEL. This is where House Keeping brings out carts of fresh towels, pillows, soaps, shampoos, etc. And guess when they stage all those carts? From 3-5 am. They're banging into walls, getting re-filled, and people are on walkies talking to other people on walkies. At 4 in the morning. Attached below is a picture from the doorway of my room. I took it this morning before I checked out of the worst hotel I've ever been to in Manhattan. I'm posting it here to let people know not to stay here. Pay the extra money, go somewhere else. Youth hostels, the subway, park benches, I welcome it all after staying at The Manhattan at Times Square.

Oh, and I also got hit with a Resort Fee of $30/night, which, to be fair, was in the fine print of my reservation. After doing a little digging, it seems more and more hotels in midtown are charging these types of fees to make a little more money. The woman I checked out with this morning handed me a card to show all the wonderful things the Resort Fee provides. Things like "Local and Long Distance Calls," Wifi, Refillable Water Bottle, and a Business Center. You know, things only the fancy rich and famous hotels provide. Thank god I had a phone to dial out and water bottle accessible for $30/night. Money well spent.

Manhattan is a wonderful town. THE Manhattan is a terrible hotel.

I m being generous by giving two stars. The first star is location and the second star I ll give to some of the pleasant staff members such as the gentleman that looked after my bags when my room wasn t ready. This hotel experience was anything but a good one, let alone a decent one! Check in was a hassle, rooms were not ready on time and no one would give me even an estimate as to how long it would be before my room was ready. Once I did get my room, my key wouldn t work so had to lug my bags back and forth a few times before I finally got in. The keys stopped working the very first night which i had to make multiple trips again to the check in counter for a working replacement. The pictures online are nothing close to what the hotel looks like. I was given a room on the 11th floor, all three days of my trip, there were cleaning trollies parked up in the middle of the hall way, stains and scrapes on the wall, filthy ripped carpets and an unchanged water filter at the drinking fountain. The room wasn t much better, the bathroom faucet would shut of unexpectedly, the carpets weren t much better than the hall way and neither was the safe wouldn t shut and thus wouldn t let the closet close either. With all that being said, when I brought it up to the staff, all they could say was sorry and nothing more. I will never recommend this place to anyone!

This place was stunning ! The manager and Aerial were exceptional with customer satisfaction! I stayed on the 18th floor it was what I expected a Manhattan hotel to look like! Thanks for making my trip to New York an amazing one.

Outdated broken dirty and expensive, the front desk young girl was very rude and making faces, but they have one front desk woman that was very helpful I'm disappointed that I forgot her name cause she has really good. The lobby is really pretty but was dirty too under the chairs they have like a separated elevator to more expensive rooms and we didn't knew that.
We choose to stay in a 2 persons bedroom with view and the view was worth it but the room was really ugly and old and smells weird. The restroom was dirty in the corners the rug was loose and wrinkle so wrinkle that makes waves and you could fall. This hotel need more love care and maintenance. It could be one of the best hotels cause it has wonderfully views and its greatly located but im surely not staying there again.

Awful!!!! The rooms look nothing like what I booked online and its dirty! I felt deceived by the website. I was very upset and chose not to stay and they kept my money anyway which is terrible! I went to the Hampton Inn which was very nice and clean great staff and location!

The only redeeming value of this hotel is its location. Other than that it was pretty disappointing.

There were a number of fit and finish issues. The hallways were marked up with scuffs and stains and the furniture in the room was banged up. The beds were terrible. They felt more like box springs. Attention to detail and presentation would have made a huge difference.

The rooms were normal New York City sized nothing problemayic there.

We stayed there because it was really all that was available for the Macy's parade that had two doubles.

Finally the high floor upgrade is a rip off. It was only $18 but all it go was a view of the hotel across the street.

Conveniently located near time square, parking was easy, we were given a room on the executive floor which was recently renovated and the room was spacious, clean, and comfortable.

On the bright side it is located between Time Square and Central Park. If you want to spend your time in Manhattan it can be one of your options. On the other side, this hotel needs a complete renovation. Almost everything, although functional, is outdated. I am not too picky about hotels and I had a reasonable deal so I am positive about it; but for any price higher than what I paid I would shop around before booking.

The best thing about the hotel is the location, very comfortable beds and excellent service in the cafeteria, although I miss that they offered some type of sandwich. To improve I would put some air freshener in the rooms.

Landed at 8pm and now it s 10:43pm, we are still waiting in the lobby for our CONFIRMED room. We are asked to wait for at least half an hour more. I see 6 other families waiting with their large bags and kids in the lobby. Reason given was: room is not clean yet. Highly disappointed after a long journey.

Great location in Times Square. Lobby was nicely renovated but smelled like sewage which they tried to cover up with a strong scent of some sort. Had adjoining rooms with family on the 19th floor and rooms did not appear to be well maintained or cleaned. Our room also had an overwhelming smell of marijuana that we were unable to locate the source of to try to get rid of - even with the windows open for circulation. Beds were uncomfortable.

Good location, front of house amazing although rooms a little dated... 'Coffee machine' was a loose definition and staff a little laid back but friendly. Long story short this Hotel is hard to beat for the location, size of room and especially very good price!

Terrible experience. Extremely expensive. Convenient location. We booked the room through a third-party app and when we arrived the front desk tried to talk us out of staying. They advised that the only room available did not have a TV (we didn't care).
After we told them we didn't care, and that we ALREADY BOOKED AND PAID for the room, we waited about 30 minutes for a room - that had a TV. The room was basic, there was an obvious empty corner where a desk/table should have been. A few days later I was charged TWICE for the room (once by the third party vendor, and once by the hotel directly).
Calling into their billing department gives you an automated voice saying your call is transferring to "Mailbox #####" where no one answers and you need to leave a voicemail. Given the other reviews about being double charged by this hotel - I will not be surprised if I never get my money back.

Old hotel, poor attention from employees, dirty, you have to be asking for a change of towels and never replace soap. The only thing it is worth is that it is close to all Manhattan attractions.

Absolute dump. Outside looks nice and lobby is great, but step off the lift onto your floor and oh my days it's grim. It feels like a social house projects. Room is very simular. Looks like it's not been decorated since the 80s. In our room wallpaper was hanging off the wall, paint is dirty and bathroom was grim. However, bed was very comfy and the location is great.

The staff is friendly but the lobby has a pungent smell of cheap cleaner. The carpet is stained and the room was outdated. The location is great but for the price they could've had more updated modern amenities and decor. (no fridge was provided in the room)
