Edited to one star, due to no soap for second week in a row in men s changing room. Important especially now with viruses going around.

Original review: Crowded and has broken aircon 90% of the time. You get what you pay for.

Getting dirty already!!! I havent seen it cleaned when I've been using it (lockers or gym floor) no cleaners around and toilet tissue and old dirty socks when left by users stays on the floor for hours. They have wobbly equipment not checked for health and safety. No antiseptic wipes' (boxes empty!) and staff could not care less... Just the attitude... Oh -and pricey too more than your regular well.looked after chain gym such as pure gym or fit for less. Not accessible to none Southwark residents - just didn't make sense for council run gym to cost sooo much

Pool itself is OK, but the (men's) changing room is terrible. The floor is filthy (bring your own flip-flops if you care about hygiene), the lockers are mostly broken or unusable due to missing keys.

Edit: The gym has somewhat cleaner changing rooms (same locker issues though). Gym equipment is mostly OK, but popular kit is very worn and the area overall gives a feeling of being a bit rundown which is sad considering the gym is fairly new.

People swimming for fitness need not apply.

This pool is a fantastic space if you want to casually wade in the pool or go for lessons. If you are a swimmer for fitness, you needs could not be more undermined.

The pool is clean and spacious. This is the only reason I gave it two stars. How that space is managed is abismal. They usually have 2 roped off lanes and about a 5 lane space of open swim. If you happen to be swimming in the two lanes when swimming lessons begin, you will be bumped to the open swim, and there won't be another lane created for you. Once you have moved to the open swim, prepare to run into about an average of 5 people who wade into the space where you are trying to swim laps. The lifeguards observe this, but I don't know if they don't care or they can't do anything about it.

The lessons are endless, which would be fine if they would allow for lap swimmers to have a designated space. Today I arrived and they closed the pool for swimming lessons from 4-6. Yet another reminder that lap swimmers are not acknowledged.

If you swim medium to fast paced, look for another pool.

Staff is very rude. There s a lady at the front desk that s been working a long time there and she (in my opinion) should not be working in that position. No smile nor greeting and it s not just one encounter cause I ve seen her quite a lot because we all have bad days understandably. Now excluding this I ve had another negative experience with another reception lady (or the same) over the phone and the manager. I ve forgotten my shower gel and by 730-8am it was gone(I had high hoped because I was the last person leaving the changing room). I called first thing in the morning but the lady was unable to check due to lack of staff to cover her, after an hour I received a phone call to inform me it was not found(even though she did not ask for the product s details). I spoke to the manager about the policies which as it turns out the have none. The manager simply didn t want the blame because as he claimed the cleaners are an external company with their own policies (which btw if you hire people for some service that means you agree with the policies just an FYI). So I asked if that means the cleaners have taken it which lead to the manager getting angry by saying accusing them of thieving isn t right. I understand he was trying to be diplomatic but this would have been resolved if he simply spoke to the cleaning ladies (which never happpened)

Very thorough. Also the gym is nice & clean

I've played badminton a few times here and have had problems every time. The courts are themselves pretty good, but they haven't been set up twice, and staff have been unbothered about responding. Once the court was covered in rubbish, including food - had to practically beg for a broom. Another time 2 Staff were stood chatting for 10 mins too close to the court rear boundary and were unbelievably rude when asked to move. Some staff seem to resent the customers which is such a shame. The centre could be great, but the culture among staff is dire.

I think some of the complaints about staff are a bit overstated, and I have never used the pool, courts or anything other than the gym.

However I do think that the gym - the free weights area specifically (of course) - is an accident waiting to happen, thanks to people misusing equipment, over crowding, potholes in the floor (!) and the attitude of some of the staff and punters.

That said, as with most gyms, it's fine 99% of the time, you just need to be persistent.

Fantastic premises+gym+pool with sauna+steam rooms. Excellent value plus Personal Trainers essential for novices for at least 3 sessions to learn how to use vast array equipment and machines safely and to work out a personal plan to follow.

Good job on the staff changes recently. The rude and unfriendly ones are mostly gone. The new staff are friendlier than the ones before. On the downside, difficult to find a free locker at times - at least half seem to be permanently squatted, which makes availability very limited for people. Time for a de-squatting!

Modern set up, clean and friendly every time I've been. The pool can get busy, but generally there's enough space for doing lengths. The changing rooms are much improved since they changed the system so you have to bring in a padlock (which means people can't run off with the locker key and put the locker out of action).

I like to go to this gym, however I can see the cleaners don't do their job properly, soon it will get worse and worse if they don't fix this problem. Some of the workers, with all my respect, don't speak English at all. No wonder if they don't do proper job if they don't know what had been told to them to be done. Pretty nice facility, although very busy during the weekend.

This gym is a minute away from my home and this is the only reason why I will keeping use it until the end of my membership.
A part from that...
if you call the centre it will take couple of minutes before your phone call will be answered.
Reception is most of the time overcrowded of people waiting to be assisted.
If you are lucky there are two receptionists otherwise just one.
There is a female receptionist that looks just miserable every day! She doesn t smile and her body language is dismissive as well. There is a guy which is quick and professional but a part this nothing else positive.
Pool s changing rooms are most of the time dirty, the floor is not clean and dry enough. Very dangerous.
Gym s floor and machine are ok, but very basic. If one of them is broken you can even wait weeks before it will be fixed.
The A/C-heater is too low. The gym floor is very cold.
Full of dust. If you see the wall you can see how dirty it s. I don t think is healthy.
Once, my boyfriend cut himself and no one was on the floor to ask for a plaster.
Today, I even had the pleasure to meet the manager of the gym.
I understood why the staff is unhappy. Obviously they don t have an example to follow considering how poor was the customer service that I received today from the manager.
There are rules, I understand but being careless is awful. You can even be right but you can t treat people like that.
Shame as the building is still fairly new there is a lot of potential but there are so many downside which they will not be fixed with this mindset.

Worst gym I've ever been. I joined last September with a very positive impression: nice and friendly girls at the "membership area", nice swimming pool, big and beautiful space.
But by the time you reach the reception desk to ask about anything, there are very rude people on the other side, looking at their phones making members wait to be attended, literally laying on top of desk, acting arrogant all the time. Never smiling, never giving enough information. I also got 6 personal trainer sessions with a person who, after the first two classes, disappeared. I was texting him (who apparently left the gym) and asking at the desk (twice) and to someone named Liam at the gym area (twice) NEVER receiving an answer and being treated as if I was asking for money. Lets dont forget that I was the one PAYING.
I finally got the classes thanks to a PT called Crystal who acted very professional and quick, but she must be the only proffesional person there. Other important details: pool isn't always open, machines are dirty and some of them broken, lockers broken too, not toilet paper and soup in ladies toilets.
Let me tell you, if you are from the neirbourghood, that if you walk to Oval station, is a NICER, CLEANER, NEWER and with BETTER STAFF gym near by. And cheaper!! No need to pay for a very bad service and despective faces.

Where do I start? Firstly, there are far too many staff to warrant such disorganisation.

I arrived this afternoon and just wanted a concession PAYG swim. There were signposts for 'free gym/swim' and for 'members' so I obviously wasn't sure where to go. The free gym/swim is great, though despite living only around the corner I am classed as Lambeth so don't qualify, but this is fine.

I was gruffly 'welcomed' at the turn style by a woman who barked at me that I need to queue. I told her I had, and she rudely looked at me as though I was lying. I repeated 'I just paid that lady over there'. She then put a purple wristband on me, and nothing. No directions or anything for a clearly new customer.

After wandering around for a few minutes I finally found the pool. Changing rooms were fine. After changing I went to the pool area where there are no wayfinding signs to be seen. I could see a pool and another staff member barked 'you need a pink wristband to come in here', I looked at her puzzled and she eventually pointed me in the direction of the actually pool that I could eventually use.

Got in the pool and it was very warm, no initial 'ooh' and then in. This meant my swim was very warm and uncomfortable, I don't think I have ever sweated from heat during a swim in my life, but here, wow.

I understand the time of day was a general swim session, but they hadn't even sectioned off a small area for people who, you know, want to actually swim. Kids were messing about (fine) in the area where people were trying to do some lengths (not fine) and the lifeguards were doing nothing to control this or stop kids divebombing in front of adults doing lengths. Every pool I have ever been to has had a section for length swimming no matter what time of day.

After just under 40 mins, I was called along with the other purple wristbanders to get out of the pool. I usually swim 45mins to an hour. No chance here. I spoke to a staff member and mentioned that I had only been in for 40 mins, and he said '40mins, and hour, near enough'... erm not when you're trying to do some exercise.

I told him nobody had mentioned a time limit when I paid, and he said if I had a problem to go to reception. Yes, get out the pool. Get dried, changed and then find someone capable of basic customer service. He also informed me if I'd waited 10 mins I could have got a green wristband, which of course was not explained on paying. I was made to feel the situation was my fault.

The pool is nice and clean, and the changing areas are fine. Bit everything else was actually a joke. I will try again on a quieter time (though really, it wasn't busy, maybe 40 people in the pool) seeing as I have paid an annual fee and it's cheap for concessions, but I really hope they take not of this review!! The place is a mess in the way it's run and some of the staff are extremely rude.

Great spacious gym with loads of different types of equipment - the best gym I've used for the price. Easy online system to book things. Yet to use pool but sauna & steam were nice. Went to play badminton one Saturday and the whole process was very easy. Can't knock it really.

Be careful. Southwark should change the partnership immediately as Everyone Active is a company that does not deal with anything: no maintenance of the center (20% of machine are broken; floor is damaged; PT saw the guys damaging and do not do nothing to stop them; shower male smelling like hell. 2 out of 3 male cabinet always out of order). The centre as 3 years and looks like 10!
There is thief operating and none of receptionist nor DM is taking action and reply (this should be address to the police as we do not have nothing to deal with. Police can't do nothing as no cctv available).
I cancelled my membership and they are still charging me for months while they are not able to retrieve data linked to my membership (but still able to take payment). Zero protection Of your data!!

My first induction went well. But I have to wait for more than 15 minutes. I was told that I am entitled to a one-to-one session for free with a personal trainer after that I am free to sign up with the a train.
Next appointment on Monday morning when I came about 2 minutes late. Mr X. (I don't want to mention names) cancelled my appointment because I was late for 2 minutes. When I asked him about the free session he said there is no such thing. He was arrogant, unapologetic and rude. In addition, there is no one is available in the GYM if someone needs help.
I wouldn't advice anyone to join this GYM unless it is free.

Swimming pools are great, both for parents and children, kids pool is 29 decrease, big pool 28 degrees very warm and clean place. I wish diving was allowed for kids training.
Only negative thing receptionist man can behave like a boss and arrogant.

Needs a refurbishment/new machines. Staff not really that professional. Sauna and steam often closed. Some of the pt's also need a bit of a pt's session themselves. Unfortunately it's the only low cost gym accessible around elephant&castle. :(

Not enough staff to answer phone calls half the time - reception staff need basic training on their telephone manner , and left me waiting on hold for a manager for 20 minutes. Staff do not know how to do simple things like re-book an appointment. Very frustrated

Front desk staff were unhelpful. Registration for the free swim and gym via the website for families is difficult. Management of the centre is poor with poor communication. When we went it was closed because someone had been sick. We were told to wait an hour and then when we came back ten minutes early we were told to wait ten minutes. By the time we realised it a queue was forming and only the first 40 were allowed in so we had to give up and go home. Southwark needs to find a better management company.

Majority of staff are very rude and do not have any manners, they have the impression they work for the queen, The changing rooms are filthy most of the time, the gym facilities do not work such as steam or sauna, even hand dryer and soap is not available.
It s a shame because the place is a good place but star and people that manage are very disappointing, especially there is a little Asian guy who thinks that works in prison in the way he behaves. This gym at this pace and with rubbish staff like that will not last long at all. I will be asking for a refund as there is no value for money, if you don t believe then visit the gym yourself...

Whilst the team on the ground are helpful enough face to face, I find the overall management of Everyone Active and the Castle site poor. I have just spent over 1 hour trying to book a class - with errors found on my account, the app failing to then process payment and then the website also not working. Exhausting!

So I actually switched memberships out of here a c...

So I actually switched memberships out of here a couple of months ago. Here are pros and cons of this place in my opinion:

Pros: brand new facility. New pool, new gym, new equipment and technology. Super fancy and modern. It s also one of the more affordable places for exercise (especially with student discounts!).

Cons: as someone who works during the day, I rely on this facility for evening and weekend classes. I wasn t quite pleased with the caliber and quality of the fitness classes. Some instructors were amazing and clearly trained on how to lead a class, whereas others did not seem to have any training at all and would lead the worst classes ever. And I m not talking about hard vs easy. I m talking about proper intervals, good flow of movements, punctuality and time for stretching at the end, and a variety of exercises. You d have the exact same class week after week- which gets so boring and really does nothing for your body.

Another con are the lockers. I guess they missed the memo that the pound was going to change because you can t lock them unless you have an old British pound.

And my final con is the cleanliness of the place. Sure, it s brand new and it all seems clean and shiny but it is very evident that they do not prioritize hygiene. At the end of the classes, nobody is told or encouraged to clean the mats that they just sweat all over and so if you go know you ll notice that the bright green yoga mats are stained black from shoes and sweat. Other gyms have disinfectant wipes to clean them up. The bathrooms in the evening often have garbage everywhere too.

Please keep in mind that my review is only relevant for the classes. I have never used the swimming or regular gym facilities.

Swimming pool is small and so is always full literally don't bother leaving your house without calling first otherwise you'll get told no access for 1-2 hrs. Today I've tried twice. First to be told closed for single lane swim (school hols) then came back in the afternoon you be told it's full wait 1 hour. It's a joke. If it's weekend or school holidays seriously don't bother without calling first. Never ever had this in Brixton or Camberwell seems to be elephant and castle that's smaller.

Cancelled my rolling membership after a month. Steam room closed, gym machines not enough variety and several broken. Resistance machines not that user-friendly. Gone back to using the much better uni gym (even though currently reduced in size) for less money. Staff I've interacted with have been helpful. I think this facility suffers from extremely high usage, equipment misuse and maybe operating on a tight budget. Shame; it looks so new and exciting from the outside.

Some of the receptionist are very rude, especially this east african lady with her braided in two, Very unprofessional. However the gym facility is fine with me. Sometimes they do run out of tissue in the toilet and in the gym, which is not practising good hygiene.

New facilities with top notch equipment in the gym. But the staff need much more training, they don't know what they are doing most of the time when booking courts and charging when its meant to be apart of the membership.

The swimming pool is very good, neat and clean. I'd say the arrangement of changing cabins is weird, there are not enough of them, and in peak periods (like the end of aqua course) you'll have to wait to get a cabin to dress. For the lockers in the change rooms, you'll need an old pound coin (the new one does not work) or a token you might ask at the reception.

As a Southwark resident, I'm entitled to free use of that gym Friday to Sunday under the "Everyone's Active" scheme.
Three stars for the hardware and facilities that are relatively new and in good availability.
But if it wasn't a freebie, I would probably don't go there. It can be a very busy place, where unfortunately, hygiene seems to be low on the management's priority list.
And the attitude of the security and reception staff is (always and invariably) terrible.

Great atmosphere inside the building staff very friendly and helpful. It has a sport hall where you can play badminton and basketball. There is a swimming pool for adults and children. There is a gymnasium for those who like to exercise and build muscle. It has a really good cafe which sell all sorts of food and drinks.

I go here regularly and today an elderly man had a session with a personal trainer. Unfortunately for the elderly man, who was clearly inexperienced, was being recorded and snapchat by the PT for his lack of form and strength, which is pretty cruel and disrespectful.
I wouldn't recommend going here if you don't like being made fun of by the meat head PT's

Went to gym today to check it out . Receptionist was miserable...no smiles. Spoke to membership/sales guys and again miserable! Not discovered the art of smiling! Doesn t make you want to join. Definitely not sales people. MISERABLE. Team need serious training on greeting customers (because that s who we are, our memberships pays their salaries)! Either that or they need replacing with a team who know customer service skills. Never experienced anything like it at a gym before.

Facilities are good, but the service are extremely too "GOOD" to talk about.

If you have any problem with the receptionist' attitude(highly likely). do not ask for manager's help cuz she is much "STRONGER". Just go to gym on upstairs and transfer your anger to power, so it will definitely boost your workout efficiency.

Btw, you need remember their membership cancellation is at 20th of each month, just in case their receptionist won't tell you (one month fee wasted)

This gym trains your mind and body together!

Last 5ish years) renovated gym with great facilities and an awesome pool. The gym is part of southwark everyone active so free access to residents on set times during the weekend. They also have competitive membership offers routinely making it a well-priced centrally located gym. Good range of classes and private PT sessions (Also very affordable btw!) offered.

Gym and swim is a great deal, with lovely new-ish facilities. Just a great shame front reception staff were never trained on customer service. Truly appalling! Infact, I'd just call it attitude and rudeness. Some reception staff don't even bother to look at you, let alone to speak. Never heard the words "thank you", ever! And most are too busy chatting with each other, to worry about the inconvenience of customers waiting to be seen.
Staff in the gym seem slightly more amiable. Slightly.
Not a great experience.

I spoke to this woman on the phone called Megan to book a basketball court, who told me it is booked for the weekend and I need to pay at the desk when we get there. The day rolls around, everyone has made the trip to the gym waiting at the counter, only to have this other woman named Holly tell us that it has not been booked, and we cannot play. The informed me that payment needed to be made within 24 hours, otherwise the booking is not valid. Holly, along with a man whom I presume is the supervisor, was unsympathetic, rude, disrespectful and proceeded to call me an idiot when I expressed my frustration (note that I swore under my breath, not even at the staff, yet they felt the need to address it and call me out for it). The fact that I have to deal with attitude from the stsff WHEN THEY WERE THE ONES WHO MESSED UP TO BEGIN WITH is absolutely laughable and ridiculous. To add insult to injury, they gave me a free voucher for HALF of what we originally booked for, and told me to join the back of the long queue if I wanted to make the booking. These people are unprofessional and utter garbage, completely ruined my day. You can make Elephant and Castle look pretty, but the people there will always be trash.

I've kept trying this place from the first time they opened and I am continually dissapointed.

From queuing up for 25 minuntes to be told the pool is full when I finally reach the desk. When someone could have easily walked the queue or shouted (normally they are good at that) and informed us, save all the queuing especially with a young child.

To the toilets not having any toilet paper and being a mess.

Veniding machines alway seem to be out of order.

Asking for ice when my 4 year old tripped on the pavement outside and she needed some ice for her bruised forehead only to be told NO at the cafe and I should ask at reception and being told NO once again.

Not being informed on entry we have only a limited time to swim and then being told to leave.

To the life gaurds continuously shouting "get out of the pool" rather than informing people nicely the kids pool is closing due to a swim class and would we kindly leave or being informed with some sort of notice or someone politely telling us in advance the situation.

Certainly won't be coming back, you've had to many chances!

It s quite a decent gym - really big and with lots of facilities. It s a great place to do your workout but there was only one reception staff (extremely depressed and not very kind) on a Sunday so the waiting time in the queue was 10-15 mins. They could organise it much better.

The pool is full of floating long hair that constantly gets between your fingers when swimming or even into goggles!! Which is not surprising as many with long hair don't bother wearing a swimming cap. The management should require all users to wear swimming caps - this is just basic hygiene and courtesy to others. Otherwise, the pool gets unpleasant quite quickly.

So it seems that The London Borough of Lend Lease (AKA Southwark) have got into bed with another private firm whose only motivation is to make massive profits even if this means putting the Health and Safety of Southwark residents at risk.

This place is not a great, it's not very clean and the staff I've spoken to are really unhelpful but it's the Health and Safety violations that are really worrying .

Fire doors blocked, many wedged open. this is to stop people getting into the gym for free. The manager actually justified the practice. Not sure if any from from Everyone's Active has sat in a Corners Court when a company says they've locked fire doors to maximise their profits. I have and hearing how people burned to death still haunts me.

I asked for an induction when I joined the gym and was told that I would have to pay for personal training. I said I didn't want personal training, I wanted to know how to use the equipment safely. After being told about three times that I had to pay for personal training, I asked to speak to a manager. After I had to tell them about their responsibility under the Health & Safety Act, they said there had been a misunderstanding and of course they could show me how to use the equipment safely for free. To be fair the member of staff that was trying to sell personal training came to afterwards to apologies and said that management at the centre have told them to also sell personal training.

oh, and there's no disabled access to the centre and hasn't been for nearly a year now. They told my disabled friend that to get in he could phone to let them know he's coming, for him to hang around the bin area and they'll let him in via there.

This place/company are a disaster waiting to happen. I hear you shout out, 'if it's that bad, why don't you leave?' because I paid upfront for a year.

Have been twice on a saturday morning, to use the swim/steam room after a run. The first time, no one mentioned that they shut the steam room and sauna facilities for 4 hours (in the middle of a busy saturday) as kids are swimming at the same time. The second time, the steam room was out of action, despite being a relatively new facility. Utter rubbish. And it's very very badly laid out
