If you're taking your pet to an animal hospital, chances are high that you're stressed out. This place is a dream. Large waiting areas, attentive and knowledgeable staff, reasonable prices and paying options. Highly recommended for anything to do with your little furry one.

Dr.Anthony was so kind and willing to explain in detail about everything we asked for. Thank you again as we were so worried about our kitten.
I found one of the receptionist was little unfriendly but well. Overall experience was great so we do recommend this place :)

Very sad to see how this hospital has changed. would never recommend anyone take their dog to this hospital. From the moment you walk in the receptionists are rude and arrogant and treat you and your pet like a production line..
the vets are uncaring and misdiagnosed my dogs condition.. was as if he was in a rush..
took him back a week later and saw another vet who was just as bad. in the end had to have a CT scan and was quoted by the vet. fast forward a week later the day of the CT scan get their and the first thing the receptionist said "are you aware the cost is an estimate and will be more"... hadnt even been in their 5 seconds and she didn't even look at my dog just wanted me to agree to the fee. i was so angry told her how can you on the day of the scan do this to people. mind you the cost was $1200 which i struggled to pay but did it for my dog..
disgusting all about money they do not care about you or your pet...
finally get the results back to be told they can't even do the operation they have no surgeons to do it... after 4 appointments and spend nearly $2000 my poor dog still very sick has a rare condition.. took him to the advanced vet care in kensington and had the best vet help me and my dog.. he is still sick but this vet was genuine and with medication will help me manage my dogs condition..
also must say with covid restrictions the lort smith are overboard you can't even be in the room with your pet so to be honest who knows if they check them properly... do not go very uncaring and money grabbers

I don't know whether to laugh or cry about this place. It's such a beautiful place if you're an animal lover. The staff were wonderful and if I had a million dollars half of it will go to then. They do a terrific job for every animal and I love the fact that they have a no death policy on an animal. They were house and animal rather than putting it down and that's great. They are understanding and understand that sometimes animals get sick and we can't afford it but they don't think about the money they think about the animal and that's great.

Upon arrival with my very unwell fur baby, I was told there would be a 2 hour wait for her to be seen to...a lovely nurse came out and assessed her and said she ll try and push for my cat to be seen earlier by the vet. We waited almost 3 hours for her to be seen, by that stage she didn t have any food or drink just incase she had to be put into hospital. The vet we saw was outrightly rude and handled my fur baby roughly, pushing hard on her tummy that made her growl and hiss in pain. I was told that they needed a 50% deposit and although I didn t have the money I assumed they could do a payment plan...I had no other option but to take her home and was told by the receptionist she would die a horrible painful death if I didn t seek treatment...my day had already been filled with endless tears and guilt...I think Lort Smith staff need to be more accommodating to those who struggle financially!! And more compassionate because I know I only have one other option.

Great and amazing staff and would totally recommend to all!!! The mid-night emergency servive is fantastic. After coming in worried with an injured pet, Lort Smith took superb care and I couldn't thank them enough :)

I had to rush my 5 month old in tonight after he injested something he shouldn't have and not only were the staff super supportive and understanding towards me but they were so sweet and kind to my pup. They also gave me a few extra tips in regards to his breed but also I was very surprised on the cost, given that it was an unannounced appointment and it was late at night, very close to their closing time they were very reasonable in the cost. I was expecting to pay alot more then I did and with good reason too. I would deffantly recommend the the lord smith!

Waited 45 minutes to try and get an appointment, for my very unwell dog!

He was in 2 days ago, for pain, diarrhoea and vomiting. They said he probably has an infection, and then gave him an antibiotic injection and sent us on our way. I requested a blood test, just to make sure, and they said it wasn't worth it. I felt uneasy, but thought, they know best, I'm just a concerned owner.

I called today to try and get an appointment, as he is still very unwell, he hasn't eaten or had water, has been lethargic since his last appointment, and is in a lot of pain and nearly unable to walk! The very, VERY rude lady, told me that there are no appointments for 2 weeks, and that he doesn't qualify as an emergency for "not being himself". When I told her he is in pain, and quite sick, she asked how long he had been sick for, I answered, 2 days, she chuckled and she then said if I didnt care enough to come in 2 days ago, I can clearly wait the 2 weeks! I told her he was in the other day, and that this is another appointment, as he needs it, and she suggested I could come in as a walk in, but that I would be waiting 4-5 Hours, and would probably not get seen, as it's not an emergency.

Told her I was going to call another vet to have him seen today, she laughed, and then said "you do that, goodbye".

Called my local vet, who were very concerned, asked me an array of investigative questions, to ascertain how serious it was. Was on hold with them for 9 seconds, until they said, bring him straight in.....

And there prices are a lot cheaper than Lort! Not sure what the appeal of going to lort Smith is any more? They are rather pricey, compared to most clinics, you have to wait forever to speak to someone, or for an appointment, and then they don't even care, and brush you off with better things to do??? As someone who has been taking my animals here for years, the service is pathetic! I can tell you, I won't be attempting to come again!!! Would rather get good quality vet care ANYWHERE else!

These guys work so hard. Taken my dog for more complex treatment for years (lump removal, sickness etc). They are super busy so expect wait times in emergency. Had a couple of hiccups here and there but nothing too drastic. The vets are good, so are the nurses and vet surgeons. Reception are welcoming depending on who you get. I hope these guys stay open.

Absolutely LOVE Lort Smith for their wonderful standard of care & never ending compassion for our beautiful (in my case) four legged friends! We are so blessed to have you. Thankyou so very much .. once again

Over priced, vets are ok, won't do much treatment without full investigation first and just be aware $160 for out of hours consults, $800 minimum for 1 night of hospital care and treatment. Won't be going back.

Disgusting behaviour and utter contempt shown by staff. Brought pet in as emergency (as told to by local vet), they did NOTHING for 24hrs and advised it may be another 24-48 hours before they even attempt to look at my pet. So we discharged to take to another emergency vet, was seen straight away and pet was described as "in extreme pain whilst being severely dehydrated". We paid $450+ (which we will be getting back one way or another) for this so called treatment, don't know what the hell Lort Smith were actually doing. When they called the other vet to pass on the information, they were in shock that they were seeing my dog as an emergency patient and said to them "do you realise we haven't put them as emergency".
We were barked at saying that "your vet doesn't know what they are talking about" and "we are the trained professionals, not them", and that "your pet isn't an emergency case, if they were, we would actually be looking at them". Unfortunately our little baby needed to be put to sleep at the other vet, due to being in so much pain and discomfort (which Lort Smith, just fobbed off saying he was fine.). Absolutely happy to take any money though.

Staff were fantastic, the Vet was thorough and explained everything in detail. Was seen with an appointment straight away. We travel 50km to visit the Lort Smith because of the quality of service and the friendliness of Staff and Vets.

If your pet get admitted you will receive daily updates on their progress. Affordable fees and flexible payment plans means every animal can be treated.
I have been taking my pets there for 20 years and have never been unsatisfied THANK YOU LORT SMITH!

Lort Smith saw my cat as an emergency on extremely short notice. Considering the clinic seemed rather busy, he was seen quickly. The triage nurse was helpful and was very kind and gentle with my cat. When we saw the vet she was thorough, and listened to all my concerns. Unfortunately after running tests (very quickly) our boy had a heartbreaking diagnosis. The discharge nurse was absolutely incredible. She was so compassionate and patient with us. She answered all our questions and provided amazing guidance. We never felt rushed talking with her. Eventually we sadly had to bring our beautiful cat in to be put to sleep. Again, Lort Smith showed amazing support though an awful time and even sent us a handwritten card in the mail after his passing. I would not hesitate to bring my pets here again and I would recommend Lort Smith to any pet owner.

Operated on my dog with short notice, and while they did they noticed that she needed another operation on her knee. The service here is excellent, but it can be a bit expensive depending on what you need.

We had a really sad experience the other day with our cat Duo, but the staff were all so kind, gentle and caring. We couldn t have asked for better support for her. Thank you so much Lort Smith for everything you did for her.

Fantastic and Brilliant- Thankyou so much!!! The level of care and knowledge at the Lort Smith is remarkable. We had an emergency situation over the long weekend with our Labrador. We first took him to another Emergency VET hospital that was open 24 hours, as the Lort Smith was not open as yet. At this clinic we spent $700 on x-rays, and we were told that our Labrador had blockage in his intestine and would could die without a $10,000 operation. We were recommended to transfer him by that clinic to the Lort Smith, as I almost fainted when they discussed price. The Lort Smith diagnosed his issue with severe Hemorrhagic Gastroenteritis not a blockage. Total cost of care including two nights hospitalisation( over a public holiday), all medications, IV and food for after home care was a total of $800. The service and level of care is awesome. Anyone who thinks the Lort Smith lacks in knowledge, expertise or is incompetent, or charge to much, needs to seriously take a look at the incompetence and expense at other Emergency Vet clinics in Victoria first! How can another veterinary clinic get it so wrong???? We had constant telephone updates twice a day, excellent service. You are the best Lort Smith!!!! Thankyou Thankyou Thankyou!!!!

Sent our mate there with jaundice he was there for five days left untreated they pushed the biopsy later everyday (which we were explained to later by another vet that could have killed him because he was so weak) and refused to tell us anything the staff were rude and unhelpful every time we would call worried sick we were told to call back as they didn't know. We weren't even sure he was still alive after 5 days we had enough and took him out he couldn't walk and was on his death bed. We took him to advance vet care and they saved his life DO NOT TAKE YOUR PETS THERE! they don't care and they refuse to tell you anything . previously we have had problems with them as well as they don't ask you about your pet they just quickly diagnose and send you away, so you always have to go back. I understand they Re a busy hospital but its not worth your pets life they really are to busy to give your pet the care they need

I can not thank the amazing staff at Lort Smith enough. Our very sick Staffy (Bee) was admitted into ICU this week and from the second we arrived we were treated with so much compassion. They were 100% transparent about fees so there were no nasty surprises and we were constantly updated on our girl's progress. Unfortunately she passed away due to discovering she had advance and aggressive pancreatic cancer - the Lort Smith staff have been so caring and helpful during this extremely difficult time. I wouldn't hesitate to bring any future pets here and highly recommend this animal hospital to all. Can't fault a single thing in our experience with Lort Smith

I love Lort Smith animal hospital because they are situated close to the CBD, the fees are made affordable for pensioners and health care card holders and the facilities are outstanding. Quality care was provided to my 13 week old kitten and I will be revisiting for the course of my pets lifetime without a doubt. Highly recommend.

I've been volunteering there around 6 yrs. It is amazing to see the amount of afford that are done to recover and rehabilitate the dogs. And dogs are looked after untill they get adopted.

Very grateful to these guys for looking after all of our animals so well over the years. Especially thankful to Dr Jonathan Crawford for putting my cat's leg back together (in two surgeries) after he was hit by a car last year. Amazed to see that he is now running and jumping again!

Dont go emergency at night nurses dont give a dam. Doctors not better. One star toooo much. Poor effort.
However doctors such as Dr Caroline made me change my rating. She is thorough and caring. Day nurses much better as well

Unpleasant meeting with Dr. Mangalika Ratnayake

Unpleasant meeting with Dr. Mangalika Ratnayake

1. There was no any nurse in the consulting room, only the vet. The cat's owner need to hold his/her cat to let the vet vaccinate.

2. Dr. Mangalika Ratnayake always gave me ambiguous responds during the consultation. I felt she did not care about my questions and my kitten at all. She just want to end this consultation as soon as possible.

3. My kitten lick some voltaren cream but did not show any abnormal. Dr. Mangalika Ratnayake told me, there is nothing she can do. She told me there is no symptom after a kitten bit voltaren cream and my kitten may have kidney failure. She suggest a treatment for kidney failure which cost 900-1200 AUD and I need to left my kitten there for 3 days.
That is very strange, how can a cat have kidney failure without any symptom?
After this consultation, I made another appointment with another animal hospital. They gave my kitten a blood check which only cost me 130 AUD. The result come out really soon. My cat didn't have any sign of kidney failure.
I am so glad that I didn't left my kitten at Lort Smith. I can not image how can my cat survive from the 3 days check.

I will never visit Lort Smith again. I believe kitten should be treated better.

Would never take an animal there again. Took my cat there Thursday 5/1/17 they kept her 3 nights doing tests etc $939 later discharged Sunday 8/1/17 with a completely wrong diagnosis. Taken to the local vet Wednesday 11/1/17 after about 10 min examination had a pretty fair idea of what was wrong, stayed 2 nights had more involved tests including an ultrasound costing $395, sadly not the results I wanted to hear, total cost $1100 but at least they got the right diagnosis within 2 days with not much more of a cost. I don't care about spending money when it comes to my cat BUT for it to cost twice the amount that it should have and Lort Smith gets it completely wrong is not only upsetting but also annoying. "Lesson learnt" go to your local Vet.

We have been clients of the Lort Smith Hospital for over 7 years now, we regularly visit the hospital with our two dogs and usually understand how busy they are and sometimes we had to wait more than 40 mins to see the Vet but usually our waiting time is between 20-40 mins each visit, however, today we had to drive during the storm to catch our appointment there, we arrived about 18 mins late due to the bad weather and the traffic chaos to find the hospital car park almost empty part from one single car, we attended to the front desk instantly to find only one staff member behind the desk and she was hooked in a conversation with a couple in front of us (the only people in the waiting room) for more than 10 mins, when she finally ended her conversation, she looked at us and asked us for our full full details, the same details which were already in the system for more than 7 years, then she told us that we were 28 mins late and we missed our appointment not considering the weather, her long conversation time or even our sick dog, after checking with the Vet, she turned around and told us that we won't be able to see the Vet today and we have to reschedule our appointment or we have to list our dog to the emergency service list, not sure what was happening that day in this hospital or what was wrong with their system but I found their service that day was appalling, unprofessional and unacceptable, I looked at my wife and we decided to leave this hospital immediately for the last time ever, they are trying to convince everyone that they care about animals but the fact is they only care about money, what a shame.

Vets and nurses were great. However, one of the receptionists was very rude. When your puppy is at the vets sick it s obviously a stressful time. This receptionist was not understanding and tried to argue with me that a bill of $2000 was to be paid, though I had told her that was incorrect and she had the wrong dog. I even said I had videos of myself and my dog in a different location on the days this other dog was at the vets. She still continued to say this is what the system says, this is your bill . After a bit more back and forth argument she realised that there was another dog there under the same name. - Excuse me don t argue with your customers without double checking the details first. If there is an issue, verify that is indeed my dog, this is what she should ve done rather than assuming you she was right. Very stressful. Not happy. I think her name was Suzanna- brunette with glasses.

Seriously talk about the staff there, how rude are they, traveled 2 1/2 hours and then they talk about you when they think you cant hear them , " just great" they say about my dog when he has pravo, im so sorry my dogs sick, but aren't you there to provide a services sick animals NOT talk about clients

My personal experience was sad and bad as my 14 year old dog had to be euthanised....but....the respect offered by staff on the day and the fact I received a handwritten sympathy card in the mail afterwards showed true empathy. But even more so on the day being upset I completely forgot to pay the account but staff didn't even contact me until 1 month afterwards to allow me time to heal...then the account was surprisingly small!! (comparatively).

Greedy people that is all what they are Greedy.

Greedy people that is all what they are Greedy.
Our dog had an accident, because the covid 19 We have been very short of money, my wife is not working and I only have a part time work.
We live in Pakenham and the vet clinics are pretty dear around here, my wife rang this venue asking for prices , they told her they could not give her any prices without seeing the dog.
She took the risk to drive to this place in the city.
After the consultation and the mocking about by the vet, they come back with a price 3 times more expensive that here in Pakenham.
We could not believe, they told her previously, that they will take her connection card.
Guess what! all lies.
Any way they where not going to help her at all, even the dog needed urgent attention.
People like this ones don not deserve any respect, the Dog is a patient and Us the owners need it some help.
We will never forget how bad you treated us.

Can't thank the staff and the Vet that assisted us in our decision to euthanize our dog. She gave us enough time to say our goodbyes to our furbaby and explained everything thoroughly. She made the sad experience bearable. Thank you.
