I must have caught the reception staff at the end of a long day because the two female receptionists seemed very disinterested and were quite frankly, unprofessional in the way they took payment and processed the paper work for me to pick up my dog that was thankfully found. I didn't appreciate them casually talking to one another across the counter while being served. I found their attitude rude and dismissive. I appreciate the work they do everyday but I would have appreciated a more positive and welcoming atmosphere.

Unfortuantly I had to come because of a Dog emergency after hours. The staff were wonderful and offered exceptional care. This (or North Melbourne Lost dogs home) vet should be your regular vet. Much better to support animals in need rather than some private Vet s bank balance.

The best place to take your creature friends for veterinary care when living on a low income in Melbourne. Staff are passionate and brilliant about providing the best care to all regardless of financial or social standing.

They can negotiate ongoing payment plans for Centrelink recipients and people on low incomes to assist in you getting the appropriate treatment and care for their animal companions.

Great cafe next door that makes toasties and is part of the adoption centre. That s a nice to place to have a coffee and watch kittens play.

We like to thank all the staff at lort Smith for looking after our boy Aussie, from the bottom of our hearts you all are amazing and do an amazing job. Sadly he flys high with angles today and isn't in anymore pain. But thank you again for all your care and kindness.

Just spoke to a lady about possibly having a vet call me as i live over 2 hours away and my dog needs extensive surgery. She could not get me off the phone quick enough and basically told me to just 'call' back without listeneing to me properly. Shame... i could have been going there and leaving a few thousand dollars with them only for this rude lady.

VERY MONEY HUNGRY PEOPLE.

VERY MONEY HUNGRY PEOPLE.

Took my dog here recently due to her having a seizure it was a sunday we waited 3.5 hours to be seen once seen the doctor said she needed emergency surgery due to having an infectious uterus i agreeded oviously during the whole time i was there nothing was mentioned of a deposit or anything until i said yes to the surgery this nurse comes over to me and my partner and says they need half of the surgery cost which was $1500 when i told them i dont get paid till wednsday she become really rude saying they would have to delay the surgery (which could kill her if left to long) after telling her for 40 mins that i cant get any money till wednsday she gave up and said thats fine once the surgery was done i recieved a call the lady was very nice.
The next day i went to visit my dog she looked very depressed they asked if i could try get her to eat i agreed oviously when they brang me the bowl of food out i asked the vet if she could make it the only way she would eat it and thats with biscuits, she refused and said she will eat it if she is hungry after 20 mins of saying you dont know my dog she finally gave in and well she ate the whole bowl.

Overall the doctors were nice they dont really go into detail of things, only a handful of nurses were really nice the rest were cows and deserve to get fired.

I will never take my dog back there as they think they know everything about everyonrs dogs not relising every animal has their own way of doing things.

The nurses and vets are fabulous, can't recommend more. The prices reasonable. However, after having my dog stay over night, my partner and I with no sleep and worried. We couldn't get a park and were late to our "pick up" appointment and the reception staff were incredibly rude and not sympathetic of our worry at all. Made us wait another half an hour to pick up pur boy. Plus a fire drill, making us exit the building for 10 mins. Not allievating our worry. After the waiting the nurse gave us a piece of paper and repeated what was said over the phone 3 hours ago. Would recommend some training for the reception staff to speak and act appropriately.

I can't thank the people at Lort Smith enough for their attention and compassion when helping our very sick little puppy. When the bill came through they were able to apply my concession as well as offer me a payment plan that didn't put me under financial stress and suited my budget. Everyone was amazing! Angel and my family will be forever greatful

Nothing but praise for Lort Smith and their staff....

Nothing but praise for Lort Smith and their staff. They were fantastic during the adoption process of our dog and have been nothing but helpful with support since. He has issues and they have gone beyond what would be considered normal service with support and advice on his on going care since the adoption,They truly care and it shows in everything they do. This team need support and recognition for the amazing humanitarian work they do for animals in our community.

Helpful in an emergency. Be prepared for wait times depending on how busy it is on the day. Different vets daily so your pet is seen by a different vet each visit. Most of the staff are young.

Thank you for you kindness from Luke, reception staff Triage Nurse and Vet Rachel. Your professional knowledge did not mar your compassion to ua as Oliver's parents as we had to lose him. Many thanks and prayers for you and the work you do, Graeme and Marian Hunter

Money minded and incompotent... not honest and will charge an arm and a leg then will hit you with extra costs they leave out its not a charity its a scam then they will throw you into a payment plan for additional costs they will never mention to you even though they verbally tell you something what you sign is very different... i cant believe they have donation options be ready to be taken advantage of if you decide to come here

My beautiful dog died a few weeks ago.
Today in the mail I received a lovely sympathy card from Lort Smith.
I was even informed my dogs name is in a memorial book.
Thank you so much.
This means so much to me.

Took my cat in around 10pm, was clearly having issues breathing, assumption was he was hit by a car the vet only checked his spine and bones, nothing broken, listened to his breathing said it wasn't good but didnt check for anything else, proceeded to gave pain killers, either stay overnight or take him home. Can't say I'd recommend this place as the vet did nothing and I dont know how you would fail to hear fluid in the lungs.
We took him home thankfully (otherwise he would've died alone), his condition got worse, took him to another vet (essedon fields) around 4am, automatically they saw something very wrong, took him in gave him oxygen, did an ultrasound and found fluid around his heart and lungs. He died before we could do anything. If only I had taken him to the other vet first he might've had a better chance.
Very upset and disappointed with Lort Smith.

Lovely staffs at the reception. On time appointment and the Vet herself she was very kind to my little kitten. We are definitely choosing them as out vet to go. The location also was very convenient for us as there were parking for visitors inside the premise and also in the street.

I have been taking my pets to Lort Smith for over 10 years. I never had a bad experience with the staff. The vets and nurses truly care for animals and are direct and no-nonsense when it comes to explaining treatment. The receptionists are always nice and are efficient on busy days to make sure your not waiting in line longer than is necessary. My current cat was taken in to the vet 1 months ago and required emergency surgery for a bladder condition. I was seen within 5 minutes of arrival and had the procedure explained to me clearly. He is a very timid cat and the staff did all they could to keep him relaxed and happy.

Not only does Lort Smith offer discounts to pensioners, seniors and concession card holders, but they provide a level of service, care, compassion, empathy and respect that is high class.

I am grateful to them for all the care and love they have given to my fur family throughout the years and the ways in which they also supported me after the loss and through the grief of losing my purr daughter.

I cannot recommend them highly enough.
Everything the do and stand for is wonderful. This is why so many take their beloved family members here and why animal lover's wish to volunteer and work here.

I hope to one day have the honor and privileged to work alongside them and help them to fulfill their mission to not only help animals but those who love them and to improve the lives of the whole family.

If you are ever able to I highly recommend donating to them so that they can continue their great charity and ethical work that they do.

I will be forever grateful to them and the extra years they gave me with my purr daughter and when I am able to I plan to give back so that they can continue to do for others what the have done for me and my family.

Thank you Lort Smith for doing what you do.

Several years ago I took my cat to Lort Smith as he was lethargic and had breathing problems. On arrival at reception it was clear that money was their top priority as we had to pay upfront and there appeared to be no triage so we then waited a long time to see a vet. The vet was awful and had no bedside manner as she suddenly shoved a thermometer up his behind. She described the cat as morbidly obese as if l was the cause of his lethargic appearance. I then admitted him on the proviso that he would have an ultrasound soon. The following day I rang up to ask about his ultrasound results to be told he would not have an ultrasound for a couple of days due to the weekend. I immediately decided to retrieve my cat. On arrival I then had to see another (albeit better) vet to, what felt like, ask for my cat back. As he was obviously not going to receive crucial diagnostic investigations in a timely manner. I then went to my local vet who listened to his history and gave him an ultrasound immediately. He was found to have a lot of fluid in his chest and around his heart. His heart stopped mid ultrasound and the vet then drained fluid from his chest which saved his life. To think my much loved cat would have died in a cage at Lort Smith had I not "rescued" him breaks my heart to this day. Yes I was unfortunate enough to see this particular vet and they can't all be that horrible but to think that they would keep a critically ill cat without proper treatment and without informing the owner of delays whilst expecting me to pay additional nights stay makes me feel sick many years on. This was so far from the charitable and humanitarian experience I had expected. My local vet is wonderful! Treatment comes before payment. I will never ever have anything to do with Lort Smith..

They took great care with my lizard and it was very cheap and they allowed me to pay it off I was quoted buy a reptile special vet on the other side of Melbourne $1000 just to see my lizard and the lort smith did the operation and everything for $400. Very friendly staff and they where very quick to see me.

Took in my German Wirehaired Pointer pup with severe symptoms and they quickly diagnosed it with a very rare condition. They commenced treatment and the puppy is on its way to a strong recovery, when it seemed like it would be heading to an untimely end. I found the vets and staff to be very knowledgeable, capable and friendly. Contrary to some of the negative reviews I've read, I found that this organisation provided a first class service that was very affordable, even with my pup being hospitalised for over two days. My thanks and full credit to the vets and staff.
