Aside from one horrible person at the front desk, everyone here was amazing. It was a sad stay for my little cat, and most everyone that helped him was caring and compassionate. They were very professional and kept me informed.

My American bulldog needed emergency care and not only where lort smith extremely good with keeping my up to date but also very affordable considering the amount of care required, they also offer payment plans (with 50% deposit), if your pet needs overnight/care for a few days I wouldn't go to any other emergency vet

My cat fell from the balcony and he had a few bones fractured, i could spot one of his fractures so i took him to this vet hospital they took only two radiographies of the same part, i thought the would take plenty radiographies, taking into account he fell from hight, so i took my cat to other vet hospital where they found other two fractures.

Plus, the price for 12 hours hospitalisation was absolutely ridiculous.

They are all for the animals. You can trust that they will do the best for your pet 100% of the time.

A great place to take your love to pet virgin issues or ongoing medical issues very professional and no pressure in making hard decisions they have lots of experience and it's a great place to support 4 hour animal

Friendly staff, happy to have a regular specialist I see who doesn't cost the earth. My cats allergies are now under control thanks to the lovely staff here.

My experience at Lort Smith was due to my beautiful rattie Missy falling ill with a respiratory infection. They were so caring for both Missy and myself. I didn't have to wait very long and the team were very helpful and the vet attending Missy knew alot about rats which made me feel very safe in the advice I got there. Unfortunately Missy only recovered for a two week period before it became a bronchial infection and I had to have her put to sleep. Thank you Lort Smith for your efforts to help Missy.

Always helpful and always kind as well as providing top vet care. Our 20 yr old cat was dying and we attended to put her to sleep. My daughter 23 yrs was losing her dearest companion. Lort Smith was just wonderful how they supported her. I donate whenever I can.

best place to take yoir pet they do payment plans i had no money and my dog was badly hurt stayed there for 5 days she was let home 2 days ago

I've always brought my animals here because they do such a great job and don't charge an arm and a leg. If you have a concession card, you can get a discount off certain items on your bill. My cat had pancreatitis and stayed overnight for three days. It cost about $1000 which is quite reasonable compared to what I would have paid if I had gone to my local vet. I'm very happy with the service from the great staff working there and the level of care that Oliver had. Thank you to the nurses and Dr Bree for looking after him. Thank you to all the other great staff at the hospital for their tireless work. The Hua family will forever be in your debt. Oliver is doing great at the moment and sends his love. Take your pets there, they'll look after them very well, and it's quite cost effective.

Really bad place! And it's certainly not free if anything it's more expensive than your usual vet ..I feel tricked into going there with the idea that they might help you if your struggling financially...don't believe it

Had to take my little tiger here. She s was taken care of very well due to the circumstances. Very appreciative of not only the heart felt service but professional approach from the vets. It was quite stressful so appreciated the extra support.

Customer service is rude.
They don't have time to actually listen to you or what your pets needs are.

The only veterinary hospital that I have come across that cares more about your animal than their profits. Friendly staff, clean environment, onsite parking. Expect delays for emergencies on weekends/public holidays.

We (as a family) have been taking our pets to Lort Smith for over 30 years, and after today's treatment by the staff, 19/7/2014 I doubt I will ever return. We had a booking and were 10 minutes late, the person on reception Shane, looked down his nose at us as if we were dirt and stupid.

Shane told us that because we were late we would be charged the emergency rates $89 and that we would have to wait for the first available vet, then after seeing 6 people come in with their pets, who did not have appointments and be seen before us, we got up and left.

Be careful that you do not get caught in the medication rort or racket that Lort Smith run.

My pooch had been given medication allegedly to last for 7 days (what was printed on the medication label) and we ran out of medication after 4 days, so Lort Smith sting you again. The price of medication at Lort Smith as I found out is 60% more expensive than a local vet.

Over the years myself and my family have volunteered our time on open days at Lort Smith, provided them with items to be sold and made annual donations to Lort Smith to keep the place running. Ever since the new building has been built the place the service level has gone down and the prices have gone up dramatically.

Shane and the rest of the staff at Lort Smith need to treat their customers with respect and not treat them like dirt and idiots.

Lort Smith, you need to lift your game and get over being money hungry parasites that you have become and revert back to the brilliant veterinary hospital you once were.

After taking my acutely ill kitten to my vet (who are really amazing) she couldn't diagnose her and sent me straight up to Lort Smith. When I got there, they knew I was coming had the medical files from local vet clinic, and triaged my kitten and sent me into the vet. They saved my cat. The vet, nurses and staff were amazing and they offered me a payment plan too. The cost was more for the injections and take gome medications, but was extremely surprised at how little it was. An amazing place!!! Thank you Lort Smith

They care for your precious ones as well as for the owner.

They do great work here. I just hated bringing in a stray. That might not make it.

Never, ever again am I taking my dog here. After a two and a half hour wait in emergency with my very sick dog, with no other emergencies before me but their scheduled appointments, I ended up with a bil about $300 more than my local vet. And that's with a 25% discount with health care card!! Take your pet elsewhere this place is not affordable as it says it is and doesn't help people struggling financially look after their pets.

Only care about money and are willing to tell you to borrow money and then go borrow more to pay 50% ofdof the bill a payment plan or they won't treat your pet that is in pain ( possibly broken bone) they won't even do axa if they think your won't have there money for a possible op (may not even be need)

MONEY HUNGRY PIGS! WORST PLACE EVER! AVOID! This place is the worst place ever, they only care about money, not about the animal. Me & my partner took in a kitten who was dying, the emergency ward made us wait 1hr, when the kitten could not breathe we finally got to see a vet but it was too late. Had of the kitten seen the vet earlier it may have been alive. They saw the kitten for lass then 5 mins, offered no solution & then the lady said "please see the guy at the front", me & my partner see the guy who gives us the bill for $160! They offered no help, no medication, Nothing! Made us wait for over 1hr & then charge us for NOTHING. This place is more concerned about money, they don't care about ur animal. I saw one lady who's dog had over 30 nurofen tablets, he was made to wait over 1hr too. This place only has 1 or 2 vets working. WORST PLACE EVER! Avoid! This place needs to be shut down or investigated. If you love your animal, don't take it to this rip off place. I never write reviews but this place is SHOCKINGLY BAD!

A fantastic hospital for bringing animals. The staff are experienced and well versed in their field allowing for a good decent conversation about what is happening. They also try their hardest to organise.laymeny plans of needed and be clear about any costs to be expected.

Whole they don't have a 24 hour emergency line their service is second to none and are clear about expectation.

Amazing people even when putting our beautiful faithful 9 year old Maltese X down. It hurt but they loved our dog so much. They did their best for our family member.

Lort Smith has its flaws, but overall, they were the best for my baby's cancer diagnosis and surgery.

It's absolutely luck of the draw with the vets/service at LS. But if you can see a senior clinical vet, senior surgeon and/or Harold for CT or ultrasound you are in great hands imo.

LS were much better than a top rated cancer specialist that cost me double the price and achieved nothing.

Lort Smith gave me an extra nine months, when my dog was basically dead on the table, and I will always recommend them for serious illness.

Outstanding place for looking after your loved ones.

I took my cat Latte to Lort Smith and every vet visit was a different staff member. There was no continuity with the same vet, I was provided contradicting information and it became apparent a lot of the vets lacked the experience and knowledge. I felt the entire time Lort Smith's agenda was to make as much money as possible by conducting additional tests without your knowledge or consent. The customer service is absolutely appalling, especially when dealing with complaints and costs. In the end I had to swap to another vet for better service. Steer away from this vet, I had read negative reviews before going to this hospital and I wish in hindsight that I had taken the reviews more seriously to avoid them altogether.

I make appointments and always gets called after more than 30 minutes wait. What is the point of appointments then??

These guys are amazing. We took our little bird in and we were seen straight away. They put our mind at ease and made a stressful night end well.

Extremely delayed review from my end but thanks to Lort Smith they saved our 8 week old pup from Parvo-Virus infection after a week's treatment. Received daily updates. This was in 2016 June.

Very rude service over the phone. I m fostering cats and the foster organisation that I am with partners with them, I was asked to book an appointment with them from my case manager to check the two cats that we have fostered as we do not have any information on their past and I was greeted very rudely by a staff member. Aggressive on the phone and did not listen to what I said. I understand that there is a pandemic and so they are not taking non emergencies but I was not notified before hand and not till the end of the call. Very dissapointed

Cat died. We told the overnight vet, she had a fish bone stuck in her throat and instead of getting it out, they let the mother of 8 four week kittens die! Not happy. Cannot stop crying.

I have always found the staff here to be very compassionate and understanding when you bring a pet in for treatment or the final goodbye. I wouldn't go anywhere else even if I have to wait to be seen.

I, found staffs very courtesy, helpful, understanding, towards us Human's thoughts and feelings, regarding their pets. I surrendering five (5) kittens found in my elderly neighbour house, as he was unable to care for them, being over 85 years old. I donated in their donation tin. Thank you all for the Great work that you all do in their specialized field of work that you all do.

Our much loved Meeka developed a urinary track blockage that needed urgent attention over the ANZAC Day weekend. Our vet recommended Lort Smith. All the staff were fantastic, very professional and caring. Thanks to all for the excellent work you do in such trying times.

Need to bring the prices of puppy's down to a better price and seperate them from the older dogs and the adoption time to be quicker than the standard waiting time...

So annoyed car parks full, driving around endlessly. Parked illegally as my kitty is an emergency she's having seizures, go in to be told to sit in the car. It's so damn distressing.

I have taken my dog to Lort Smith since he was 8 weeks old. Every year he gets vaccinated and a thorough check up. He will turn 10 in November. His heart is fine even though a little overweight ( my fault )
I can't praise the Doctors and nurses enough.
They all so friendly and the reception staff are friendly and very patient with customers.

The actual care my dogs have received there has been great but it does not override being treated like an ATM.

The first time I took my dogs there for a consultation (I had just adopted them) they prescribed a months worth of antibiotics for his tooth infection. I brought him in for surgery 5 days later after which I was told he needed a different antibiotic which I had to buy 5 or 6 weeks worth. Surely this is their bread and butter and they would have known there might be a chance that the antibiotics needed would change after surgery. But no, they cant refund or reuse dispensed antibiotics so I wasted money on the first batch (and wasted the medicine ultimately).

My dog had major dental surgery which he recovered from beautifully, happy with that. On their recommendation I had my other dogs teeth cleaned and he had 4 teeth removed. I was thinking that might be that for a while.

One my 1 year anniversary of adopting my dogs I took them in for their annual check up and was told both of them needed a scale and polish and possibly teeth removed. My littlest dog yes that is true at least for the scale and clean but my other dog only had one 6 months ago! As one of my dogs had a reaction from the vaccination last time the vet did it via needle but gave him antihistamines anyway. Never mentioned price or that we would be charged for them I only found out on the way out (I would have rejected them if I knew I was paying for them). I was deeply disappointed to leave Lort Smith with another recommendation for $2000 worth of dental and paying for medication that was over prescribed. And to make matters worse I gave the receptionist cash, which she didn't count so then over charged me by $20 which I waited until they counted the till so they could put it on my account.

I am going to Fawkner Animal Hospital now. Their dental service is between $380 and $480 total. The vet is warm and practical. Their prices are reasonable and I feel like they respect me and my animals rather than seeing them as an ATM.

The vet we saw here seemed as if he wasn't interested in our thoughts about our pet, he seemed more interested in his paycheck. Pricing was way too high. Another vet did our xrays for $200 cheaper. And there was a very sick dog in the waiting area pooping everywhere, we are lucky my puppy didn't fall ill.

Thank God for Lort Smith. Had an emergency Wednesday night and took my puppy there. Checked her out ICU whatever was needed . I've always found them to be first rate and have used them for twenty years for from the littlest things to orthapeadic surgeons. They give discounts if you are on a compelling payment but they allow you to say the work off which is incredible otherwiseany would'nt be able to afford it. Also, they are open until 12pm.

Went there without appointment because my cat had blocked bladder. Good facility and staff. Downside, I ended up spending more than what initially estimated. Upside, unlike private clinics, they offer payment plans.

My local vet tried to charge me $660 for neutering my puppy, including a superfluous blood test he didn't even need. They inspected his teeth and told me to postpone his operation because his baby teeth hadn't yet fallen out. He said I may as well wait so that if they don't fall out, they can remove them in the same procedure (at a cost).

Lort Smith conducted the neutering for less than half the price!!! And just rang me to say his teeth are wobbly anyways and could we please take them out? I said sure and asked how much it would cost "its no worries, free of charge, it will only take a couple of minutes" Thank you!

Amazing facility. We traveled Al the way from castlemaine to have our dog looked at thinking he may need a scan. Lovely vet nurse, we were seen promptly and the vet advised no further action needed. No charge incurred due to circumstances.

Very helpful, accommodating and understanding. To be offered a payment plan also helped emendously. Staff went above and beyond.

The help and care my pet recieved here is always amazing, professional and helpful! The vets have helped my cat to be a much happier girl. It's affordable and I highly reccomend anyone seeking a pet look here first into adopting a beautiful companion rather than a pet shop/farm.

My friend brought their dog for a minor surgery. Lort Smith tried to save money by not giving the dog a blood test, even though they put it in the quote and said it was standard practice before surgery. If they had given the dog a blood test they would have known that the dog could not have the surgery.

They did the surgery and the dog died.
