Are these people really vets? REALLY? Have they been to school at all? Maybe, but it's hard to believe.
The incompetence is stupendous, the cash flow - first class.

Lort Smith Animal Hospital was the only 24 hour hospital that had compassion to take my kitten in for an emergency knowing I didn t have enough money on me - I was disgusted to know all the other animal hospitals would not see my kitten without money upfront in full .
The staff at Lort Smith are kind, caring and compassionate no matter what your situation is .
They have now become my Primary Vet Clinic for all 3 of my cats and the 45 min drive is worth it .
One vet in particular is absolutely amazing her name is Dr Amanda Tenne , she is so knoweldagable and will explain a lot to you , she picks up on things other vets have perhaps overlooked , she is by far the best Dr I have taken my cats to see .

We went for vaccination for our one year old cat. Friendly staff. No long waiting time. Can receive friendly basic counselling and check

Good big vet. Lots of staff and training. The wait times are higher than usual especially if they're are a few emergencies going on. Would recommend ringing ahead to check their time frame of your appointment on the day.

Fantastic place, we adopted a cat from a pet store that came from this place, she was very healthy and still is 8 years later you couldn't of asked for a better caring pet hospital in Melbourne.

The best vet practice ever! They actually care more about the animals than making money.

excellent service! I came in to have my bunny vaccinated and they managed to fit me in for desexing that day. they spend a lot of time making sure i knew about post operative care and gave me pain killers and a concession discount. you could tell that every single member of staff was a true animal lover so i knew my pet was in good hands.

I had a bad experiment in Lorthsmith today. I am a very easy person who will never give any bad review for any service before but was getting so disappointed about the Staff here.
My dog in a very urgent situation that need to be cared. I brought her to the Vet in the morning and they told us that our puppy need to be treated as soon as possible in the hospital as he is in very bad status , so the Vet send me address and also help us to call to LorthSmith hospital for an appointment.
We came there at 12pmand meet the reception at 12:20. Due to the COVID19 so we have to wait outside in our car and waiting for the call from them. We are very happy to wait as we understand it is busy at that moment.
Yes. When we waited for 1 hour i came and ask staff there how long it will be as my dog seems painful that time. And they said they will notice and come to us soon. Also, at 1:39pm the staff call us and said they will be there soon, we waited for 30Mins and another 1 hour, no one come to us. Me and my partner come to the staff and ask them again as we know our dog is really painful at that time. But she was just very RUDE to us. It the lady who have a hair tight. She looks at us by a very RUDE way.
But we still very patiently waited untill 3:30 . Still no one care about us. I came inside and asked the staff (different lady), at the moment my dog was crying in the car as he is so painful. I asked her again, and like begging her to help, and she told us our appointment was being moved to late as some another cases. WHATT?? Really???
And finally at 4:10, when i have to brought my dog in front of door, someone came to us to help.
And after 4 hours waiting there. And another 10mins waiting for doctor to check my dog. They send him again to Specialist as they cannot do anything. It means we wasted our 4 hours for nothing.
And again . After bring my dog to Specialist Vet, they doing Xray and checking my dog. And my dog at this time was really bad and cannot be treated.
He got EUTHANASIA !!
Now i will never see my dog again.
I am not blaming on you for our lost of dog. But I think you really need to care more about your service. Please dont ignore any case. If your staff seeing any long waiting, please inform us that it will be long. Dont let us wait for NOTHING.
We see people came after us and gone before us.
I know you will delete my review. But I really need you to know how upset we were. Please be in our point and think. Dont excuse it all happened because of the busy time. It just because you are not professional enough.

Took my dog, whom I bought from here, regularly here for check-ups for close to two decades. Always polite, friendly, caring and reasonably priced, can't praise highly enough.

We brought in a possum that had been knocked over by a car unfortunately it had to be put to sleep caring nurse at the counter.

Not so easy to adopt a dog when they don't let you have the one that suits your house.they knew better than me on what dog suits. So now I will not get a dog from a shelter.

Excellent staff, cannot speak highly enough of Lort Smith.

Have had to take my blocked cat here about 5 times and the vets and vet nurses have always been lovely and treated my boy how i would. Yes it can be expensive but vets are. And the service is great. All staff are lovely and its great they offer payment plans

My dog was taken to this vet on the 26/01/19 because he was found wondering up the Nepean Highway in Chelsea just outside his home. He was picked up by a caring lady. When she noticed he was stressed and began to vomit she took him to this vet. I was told by the vet I could not collect him or they would be fined by the city of Melbourne council and that he had to be empoundment . That was on the 26/01/19 . I rang this vet last night and my partner did as well they told us they have no record of Buddy ever been there. We contacted the after hours ranger at city of Melbourne and he has no record but tried to help us by trying to get in contact with private rangers. Buddy suffers anxiety attacks and helps as well as he finds it hard to breath . He has a skin condition but when he is under stress he bites himself and pulls out his fur. Buddy is a 7 year old lab retriever. Where is Buddy ???? Where is he???? Vets are ment to care for animals !!! Your fine is $700 but Buddy s welfare is worth more. You are cruel horrific people . I have contacted the rspca and if he isn t located tomorrow and if he has been in your care the entire time . You know he has a skin condition , you know he suffers anxiety attacks you know who his owners are . What kind of uncaring inhuman people are you. Where is Buddy and how is he ????? Is he still in a cage suffering ???? The city of Melbourne do have a cruel law but for gods sake you have made my dog suffer and I have suffered badly. You don t have time then be a human and make time . You are all evil

Relinquished and lost animals are treated and cared for here before being made available for adoption. There is a vet and animal hospital, for paying public customers

Friendly and patient staff and that's really important for pet care as owners tend to be 100/100 on the Worried Meter when they're bringing their pet in. A little on the expensive side but if you can afford it and want consistently good service, it's worth it.

The only problem is location as it's not the easiest place to get to. Usually need to fight through traffic to get to the almost CBD area.

Dog looked a bit unwell. Wanted to do Xray and keep her overnight. Xray showed nothing. They did another without my consent. $1,200 bill for an upset stomach. Well done, Sherlock.

Absolute legends. When my Cat got blocked after being diagnosed with a UTI I phoned them in adavnced stating I was making my way down to them ( I lived in melton at the time) and upon arrival within 30 secs of saying I had arrived a Nurse came out and took my cat instantly stating "We have been waiting for your arrival"... I had gone to a Vet in Werribee after hours and they made me wait to see a Vet which only made me panic more and my mate who was with me told me about the Lort Smith and how they do Payment Plans. Thank god she did because the other vet wanted to charge me 2x as more and was absolutely disgusting towards me. Treating me like I was stupid was her biggest mistake

Thank you to all the Vets and Nurses who looked after my Alice Cooper. He had a big impact on many as he is so loving even when in soooo much pain :-)

This place is one of the best places to take your sick pets or maybe buy a new kitten or puppy. Very caring people that are honest about treatment needed and very reasonable prices. I have needed this place many times...I thank them so much.

The staff nurses and vets are super amazing. I love these guys. They treated my cat with such love and care. It was just beautiful

I dont know how long they all take to answer the phone Have been on hold now for 1hour and 17 minutes and have gone from caller no 15 to no 11 At this rate it will be another 4 hours to get through to an actual person obviously only one person manning the phones .

I challenge you to find anywhere cheaper. My local vet sent me Lort Smith. Ii should have just gone there first!

I've never had such poor telephone service than I did with the Lort Smith Hospital today. Not at all friendly, quite rude and spoke with such sarcasm. Whether Cathy was having a bad day or not there is no need to be rude to a potential customer. I thought these people were there for the animals but obviously it wasn't in this case. Have a good day Cathy as you've lost not only a customer but you've tarnished the reputation of this animal hospital by your unprofessional phone manner.

Great place to take sick animals to be looked after. Have been 3 times and have always had a good experience

I had a very bad experience.

Terrible experience. Myself and my partner called to book an appointment for adopting an apartment cat.

Once there, we saw a cat we really liked.

However, when we said we wanted to adopt it, we were confronted with extremely personal questions, like where we were from, if we were living together and if we were renting.

We took the questions in because we really liked the cat, but they refused us to take it even after 20min of questioning.

Extremely bizarre experience.

Best place to get a new pet or a current one cared for, in Melbourne.

I have been taking my 2 cats to Lort Smith for their entire life (6 years). I also took my family pets when I was younger to the same place. I have never had a problem. Yes their waiting time can be a bit extensive at times. Waiting for a call to be answered can be very lengthy too. I've only had a problem with one vet over the years. So all in all, a fantastic place to take pets, and in comparison to other veterinary clinics, not too expensive either.

The most beautiful and caring staff who do anything possible to help your pet. They give options to pay your fee off if not financial at the time of your visit.

Can get busy, but very modern and well equipped animal hospital. Prices are closer to what you'd pay at your local vet these days, but excellent emergency facility available which most vets do not have.

We love taking our pets here. When we lost our old 17 yr old Lab they treated us like family. Thanks for the past 10 yrs of caring for our pet's. Look forward to years of future visits.

Can t speak highly enough of the staff at Lort Smith

They butchered my dog! They performed unnecessary major dental on my dog. He was bleeding internally from cancer yet they still pulled 10 teeth out and called me saying they would let him die on the table if I didn't pay for a blood transfusion upfront. I have placed a law suit against them and have been left severely emotionally traumatized by the whole experience. Avoid at all costs!!! RIP paddy my baby you were the best friend I could have ever asked for, I'm sorry I took you to these people. I blame myself for what they put you through. You didn't deserve that...

Would give a zero rating if could. My mums cat spent 3 days in lort smith getting tests done. She was discharged with the wrong diagnosis. Had to take her to the local vet where she soent another 2 days and was diagnosed with cancer. Lort smith are USELESS. They gave her antibiotics cos they said she had pancreatitis. Big difference between pancreatitis and cancer. Not that its the money that matters but she spent $900 at lort smith for basically nothing. All these arsholes care about is money. Thier bedside manner is deplorable. I will NEVER EVER take my animals there....EVER. 10mins in the local vet found more than lort smith did in 3 days.

I adopted my cat from Lort Smith 10 years ago and have been going ever since. They re kind, thoughtful and very reasonably priced - even for quite invasive surgery.

We take our cat every year for her annual check ups and immunization. When it comes to it, Lort Smith is good, though waits could be extensive but it is because there are emergencies and they try to rescue animals that could die.

However I tend to agree that with the emergencies and fees they are quiet expensive and not always very helpful. Our cat was hit by a car at one point of her life, Lorth Smith vet said she was ok, just needed some time to recover, However some time later a part of her tail dried up and she was chewing on it (the tail was snapped in half and one part of it died off). She ended up going through an operation (amputation of the tail) that cost us a little fortune. Ideally the vet should have been able to to see that from the first examination.

The other good thing about them is that they take care of stray animals - we brought in a rabbit and a small very sick kitty whom we found in our yard. Both were desexed, immunized and cured and rehomed. This is a great job Lorth Smith!

Great service, friendly staff, not over the top costings. Only problem is it's a little too far from me, but worth driving the extra few KMs. Plus they have a designated waiting area for cats which is a great idea for my timid boy!!

Open till midnight. Has payment plans for concession card holders for large bills. Call before you go. Vets are amazing here.

My Daughter Tarhana had desex operation last week! The staff was lovely they helped us a lot and answered every stupid questions I asked

The nurse was amazing, my beautiful Rotweiler has to come for regular injections, & seeing he's not to keen on other 4 legged friends, she was very thoughtful not only to myself but other patients, clearing a way & using a screen to guide my boy into a room to have his appointment without any dramas to anyone. She gave great advice on diet & arthritis care. Lovely bunch of people down there. I've been taking my furry friends there for years.

Took my kitty there after hours & was attended to by the lovely ladies at reception. As it's a sit & wait service it was a quick experience for me & my kitty. The nurse checked him 1st & suggested that we wait for the vet who was brilliant. Highly recommend this place. Great for concession card holders.

Amazing veterinarians, came directly from centrelink pay, so didnt need to remember to make payments..which is great and they also message your mobile how much you $ owe and how many payments left! So if you dont have all the cash up front...they wont turn you away! But really rather have insurance

The amazing team were great at saving my little pomchi who had swallowed a heap of nurofen one day. 4 days in, fluid therapy and blood tests and every day they kept us informed. The staff were compassionate and helpful. Couldn't recommend them high enough. Great payment options to help with every budget. Thank you for everything you did for our family.

BEWARE MONEY PIT! Make sure you ask prices for ALL services or you are in for a nasty surprise. $232 total for sick chook to be seen by vet and put down. Would appreciate detailed price list online.

First appointment they say be there 15min early so I'm there early, wait an hour after time of appointment time.
Next apointment for operation, they cancel tell me when I get there.
Then they did it again.
This morning go in again for operation, now they tell me they need $1100 deposit to do it. This is the first time they said this. I no how much it might cost and Iv got the money but they never said I need to leave a $1100 deposit.

So I said no I'm not going to do that if I was told this I would of had it ready, so they say go on a payment plan I said no I don't need a plan.

Now I'm trying to ring and talk to Russell Harrison the "manager". They will not let me talk to him I only get the head nurse who is trying to egg me on saying I'm yelling when I'm talking ect. Phone staff are good at that.

So to me this is a place where you go work when your in school or just finish if your not a sort after vet. Then once you get an offer to work anywhere else your off.

Again if they had there Together then the girl at the counter might not tell me the 24th was yesterday it's not today. I'm born on 25/10 I think I no what day it is lol.............

Ring up today 12/01/17 they say my dogs can come in get anything done just as long as I don't bring them in............1 min later after talking to head vet no your dogs can't come in only if it's an emergency, so what I said to you at the start was right? No..........so my dogs can come in get anything done?....no.......??????
Then it said stop yelling at me......I'm not yelling.....well stop talking over me........or I will end the call....lol

would give a negative 5 star if available as an option. Keep away from this place, the practice is horrible and unprofessional for the least to say. They took out the dog's teeth without even notifying the owner by any means, cannot properly diagnose a pet and just after money!

Always had great help here.
The wait can get a bit irritating at times but it's kinda expected being an emergency hospital.

Long wait time but good pricing, parking can get a bit crowded.
