Now Larimar Punta cana & Secrets Royal Beach Punta Cana Review

I love the Secrets. A great hotel. But it is not a club. There are drawbacks in the animation. Halli Galli yes (only during the day at the pool), but sports entertainment rather poor. If you want to sleep early in the evening, you should book rooms near the beach, so you will not be disturbed by the evening shows.
That was it with the "but". Great beach. Nice staff without tip (I give after the performance). 24 hours room service. Delicious food, wide selection. Ladies: wear a bikini, the Americans do it ;-)

Paradise on earth. I think everyone knows the difference between expectation and reality, but here the expectation is exceeded, it is actually a beautiful clean beach that is maintained several times a day. The hotel itself is a bit older, but it is kept in good shape. The service is great, but English is a clear advantage here.
The entertainment is intoxicating. A new dimension in entertainment and show. Deserved 5 stars from me.

This hotel is generally good, but the food is not the best nor the shows at night are very good, I think they are a long way from being animated by the show.
The best are its clean pools and the warmth of its people, with the exception of some guards who are looking to see people changing by the windows of the room or the private jacuzzi.
The beaches are clean in general but they have quite a lot of sargassum.
The property is safe and clean.

I just wanted to say how happy I am when I am here . The staff makes this hotel the best. I want to give thanks to Santo, Junior, Jefrey ,Juan and last but not least the man that makes everithing happened Elvis for making my vacation the best like always. this guy's are not just staff they are family and they treat you like you are part of theirs. Please treat people the way you want to be treated the team at secrets will not let you down anything is possible here . I don't want to forget Paolo and Darling for having and excellent team in the preferred site . See you next year my puntacanada Familia.

This was our first trip out of the country and I cant say enough good things about this resort. The staff is so friendly, fun, and just in general happy. The activities on the resort are well planned and we enjoyed watching the shows every night!! The staff work very hard to keep this resort spotless! I will most definitely be back!!

I trave extensively as a commercial charted pilot and have awarded five stars to only one other resort. As compared with the other many resorts where I've stayed, Secrets Royal Beach in Punta Cana, Bavaro is in the best repair and is the cleanest. This all-inclusive is truly so, with guest privileges extending to other facilities owned by its parent company. Dining is excellent with ample servings. The resort staff are top-notch, helpful and seemingly genuinely pleased to be there. The WiFi is excellent throughout with routers everywhere including inside the rooms. Also, remember that a private electrical company provides power to Bavaro and Punta Cana, so outages are rare during normal business unlike the rest of the island. Grounds are very well maintained. One truly does not have to leave the premises at all. Nonetheless, my wife and I consistently travel the towns, pueblos and rural areas because we love the Dominican people and we wish to immerse ourselves in their culture. We'll definitely return. By the way, if the Italian or French or Japanese, etc., foods don't taste like they do at home, just go with it. You are not at home! Don't complain or just stay home wherever home is. Enjoy the experience! Bienvenidos a La Republica Dominicana!!!

A wonderful place, all employees are at your service with very warm attention. The food is top notch and the facilities too. A quiet beach and sea.

The place itself was beautiful, though very much like a maze. It is hard to get your bearings until about the 3rd day.

The staff is not as friendly as what we are used to at other Punta Cana resorts.

Did not see the point of "own our private butlet". Ive stayed at Jade Mountain in St Lucia where you really get your own private butler. Huge difference.

The buffet at Now Larimar was great for breakfast but did see roaches in the cereal anf crawling on the floor. When i brought it to one of the wait staff he just shrugged and let it keep crawling like he was afraid of it or thought it was normal.

The seafood restaurant was terrible. They firsy got the order wrong and when they did bring the shrimp and scallops it was just shrimp they were out of scallops and the fish was fishy. The italian at secrets was like opening a can of chef boy-r-D.

The seaside grill had a great skirt steak, lamb chops, burgers and fries and Capers at Now Garden was terrific.

Doubt that we will be returning to this resort. But we will be back to Punta Cana, its our favorite vacation spot.

Secrets Royal Beach is a cozy, intimate boutique resort. Located adjacent to (and part of) the larger, family-friendly Now Larimar property, there are many options for food, entertainment, pools and beach. Adults can pass easily between the two resorts. The layout is user friendly and creates many different visual perspectives. The landscaping is lush, mature and well maintained. The Secrets side of the complex is mostly quiet and relaxed with the louder party areas you d expect at a Caribbean resort, it s up to you. There are options for entertainment, though a bit on the cheesy side.

The rooms are solidly built and virtually soundproof -- a blend of rustic and luxury. The mini-suite is large, well-appointed and thought out. The rooms appear to have been renovated in the last few years, the lighting is modern and creative. The suite s patio/balcony has a whirlpool tub on one end, which is surprisingly useful.

Of the many restaurant choices between the two properties, only one requires reservations, and 3 are on the Secrets property and therefore adult only. The food overall is excellent for an all-inclusive.

The beach is deep, with a mix of tall and short palms allowing many choices for sun/shade and plenty of chairs. There are many two person shaded huts as well. The sand is soft and clean of prickly debris, the waterline is raked by machine and by hand. There is an off-shore reef that cuts the waves, it is not calm but not too rough to swim. You can walk for miles in either direction.

The service is superior, we received three calls to verify our one minor issue was resolved (not really an issue, it was user error on our part).

The staff is genuinely friendly, one of the main attractions of the Dominican Republic as a resort destination for sure.

There was one logistics issue with towels and with bottled water, each on a different day. We had one (JUST ONE!) issue with poor service from the water/coffee servers at breakfast, otherwise the service was outstanding (or excelente as they like to say).

Our check-in documents included a Golden Key which a staffer soon offers to convert to some bogus coupons on additional services like the spa or a private dinner on the beach. This is a sales gimmick, you will be invited to a special breakfast in order to sell you on their Preferred Club. It is up to you if you want to check it out, or firmly decline as we did, and that s the end of it. Some reviewers have complained about this, just say no thank you, it s not a big deal.

Overall, one of the best resorts we have experienced in Punta Cana and Mexico to date.

Overall, a nice resort. My wife and I recently spent our honeymoon here. There are plenty of activities to partake in during your stay. Our only complaint was that the food quality can be rather spotty. The buffet at La Riviera was mostly poor during our stay (probably because the food is prepared in larger quantities). On the other hand, our meals at their more formal sit-down restaurants were excellent.

Things to be wary of: smoking is allowed on all beaches in the Dominican Republic. Additionally, the beaches in the Dominican Republic are also public, so there are usually a fair amount of vendors that walk the beaches in attempts to lure tourists in for business. I will say that the resort security team, along with the Dominican Police/Beach Patrol, generally did a good job at keeping most vendors away.

MAKE SURE YOU READ UP ON THE DOMINICAN DRINKING WATER AND FOOD PREPARATION BEFORE VISITING! You'll want to thank me in person after your visit.

Great resort with great service, a wide selection of different restaurants, you can relax and enjoy your vacation! The staff is very often singing on the road which brings a great mood.

Great beach, beautiful pool area! Rarely in Punta Cana: the barefoot grill for lunch.

Nice area with great rooms and jacuzzi on the balcony. Pool in the afternoon very loud, many Americans who can not behave, but they are not on the beach. Food was delicious, especially when grilled on the beach.

This is definitely NOT a 5 star hotel .This hotel staff definitely needs some lessons in customer service, especially Murray. On the first day it seemed like the girl at the front desk was a robot and was simply going through the motions. Don't get me wrong, some of the staff seemed very professional but I was very disappointed when dealing with one of the managers, specifically Murray. It's funny how people in the hotel will try to sell you on excursions every time you take a breath but when my wife had really bad stomach cramps it seemed like nobody cared. Instead, Murray referred me to a doctor which is $200 for an evaluation and all we needed was some pepto bismol (which I would stock up on if you plan on eating here). It was about 4 AM in the morning and he came out as if someone had just interrupted his nap. He gave excuses instead of answers and didn't seem to care about our troubles at all. He left and said he would see what he can do and that he would come back. He did not come back but called the guy at the front desk to tell him to tell me there was nothing he can do. Seemed like he was afraid to tell me in person. Also, my wife and I have been plagued by stomach issues ever since we got to this hotel. As I've read other reviews on this site I've seen that other people have had the same issue so so.something is definitely wrong here with the food. Also, it is all inclusive but the food was subpar to say the least. Not the best liquor in the world either...WARNING: if you book a vacation here, expect the staff to pester you about shelling out hundreds of dollars to go on excursions. Its like thats all they care about... I had high hopes for this hotel but I was let down immensely. All I have now is an upset stomach. If you are thinking of booking this hotel, I would definitely look around more. Im surprised to see this place has decent reviews overall but dont be fooled I would pay attention to the recent reviews!

We went here for our honeymoon. The resort itself was beautiful. The food was very good, and had plenty of options. The room was clean, spacious, and had a very comfortable bed. I m giving it 3 stars for a honeymoon because it is more of a party resort than expected. Loud music, and staff leading loud chants to take shots to late into the night. The beach is not relaxing due to vendors constantly trying to sell items or excursions. It would be a great place for a group of friends on vacation, not for a relaxing honeymoon.

Definitely leaves much to be desired in service to our arrival coming down in the engine lobby they took us without finishing down even because the owner was coming as if we had not paid our second lodging we went down to breakfast. We took an empty table and we ran a waiter To tell us that it was busy we went back to take our things away and they know by whom it was occupied by hotel employees !!!!!! Bone the money you pay for the stay is not worth it! Terrible show rooms stink of damp and no service. I would never recommend for an event because that's what I do.

The worst Secrets I have visited, the attention is terrible since they exploit the Dominicans and the vast majority of the rooms do not have an ocean view, the food is fine although the nightclub has a lousy DJ

We have been here 3 times and going again next week. We have been to many all inclusive resorts and Secrets Royal Beach is by far our favorite. The people and staff make this place special to us. We consider the staff to be like family. I know when we get there we will be greeted with open arms just like seeing family after an extended time away. The place is beautiful and the food is excellent as well. We can't wait to see Santa, Israel, Garfield and many others. The entertainment team here does an amazing job at getting people involved in playing games and getting people to try new things that creates amazing memories for all. If you want to really leave the world behind and just relax and enjoy some time with your spouse this is the place to go. Even with all of the concerns that America has about the Dominican right now. We literally just booked this trip 2 days ago because we feel confident in the staff at Secrets Royal Beach.

I absolutely love Secrets, the people that work and live here to take care of all of us that come to visit. Carlos and Angel and Artemigus were amazing and we are now part of an extended family of whom all I appreciate very much

Great place for a vacation. My wife and I didn't want to leave. Great hospitality from all of the staff members. The food and drinks were really good. The view was also amazing from anywhere you stood. Can't wait to go back.

Super excellent staff, I loved the joy with which you are served especially by Israel and Santa in the restaurant bar Portofino we spent an incredible evening.

Adults only resort the food was good and the rooms where huge. The staff was very helpful and courteous.

Actually a beautiful hotel with a stunning location, unfortunately too many happy Americans. At night a mess on the floor, during the day loud loud at the pool or beach. Too bad, would have booked us an adults only hotel to find peace.

The resort is beautiful like most resorts in the Caribbean. Our room was nice and the jacuzzi on the balcony was a nice touch. The room was properly cleaned with housekeeping service in the afternoon and turndown service at night. Concierge periodically called and checked in to ensure everything was ok. I also like the adults only feature, yet exposure to amenities at the Now. Bartenders were very nice, attentive and friendly. I would have rated much higher, but our last night and morning was not good. The food was just ok. I've had much better at other resorts. Our last night at dinner the manager at the Spice restaurant (Now Larimar) was very brash and rude when taking our order. He definitely needs customer service training. The service at buffet the morning before our departure was not good. It took 20 minutes to get our drinks, suffice it to say we had almost finished eating by that time. The waitstaff cleared plates from others' tables, but walked right past ours. The hostess was also rude. This was very dissapointing as it left a a bad last impression. I will never come back to this resort, maybe not even Secrets in general. I've had much better experiences, especially for the amount of money being paid.

One of my best trips ever, the entertainment staff (the King, Eddie Murphy) and the beach and wait staff (Wanda) were amazing. I would go to any resort that they were at. They were not just Friendly but made me feel at home. The resort is spotless and truly ultimate luxury. Some down sides but so few I won't mention them. I will seek out Secrets in the future. A home run in my book.
Oakland & San Farancisco Ca Lovers!

For a week straight I was harrassed by people trying to sell me time shares. Most bar tenders were rude and made it clear they didnt want you to order a drink that wasnt premade. Usually out of most ingredients. Not what I was hoping for, for and all inclusive.

Our first trip to the Dominican and out of country in 15 years and it was great. We arrived really late new years day and as soon as we arrived to the lobby we were whisked away to our Preferred lobby to check in. We were a little hungry but mainly needed a drink and the staff got us drinks and there was a nice little buffet to tide us over until we were able to go eat at a restaurant. (Which we ended up eating at 3 times as we were not sure where all the restaurants were.) Elvis, our butler, was wonderful, if we needed anything he was there and even when we were not expecting him he was there and very helpful. Our room was everything we asked for. There were a few minor issues with the room, that was taken care of quickly. Asking us to meet our rep in the main lobby at 9:30 in the morning after traveling from 7 am until getting to our room at 9 p.m. was asking a little much. The beach, the food/drinks, the staff were all wonderful. Made great memories and getting locked in our room with a representative from vacation services was one of them. I will have to admit I was a little disappointed that there was no Captain Morgan, but not having that got me to try different drinks, so it worked out. We have talked about coming back in a few years and bringing our sons. Thank you for a wonderful time. "Oliver" was very helpful as was "Speedy Gonzales."

Overall stay was okay. I would rate 3.5 stars if able. We had GREAT time.. the service was fantastic, especially if you tip (although not expected)...

Good:
Service was excellent. Especially Carlos L at the pool bar at secrets. Entertainment crew including spaghetti and sexy chocolate.. the housekeeping staff does an excellent job and our mini bar was always stocked. There was always fun to be had. We could get by without speaking Spanish, even those who spoke no English would find someone better suited to answer our questions. Room service was on point. The gaurds did a fantastic job of keeping people from the sister resort from entering the property.

Bad:
Food is TERRIBLE. It was edible, but nothing was ever the right temperature. Absolutely no spices or flavor, everything is very bland. This was consistent with all the groups we encountered on our trip. We both got sick at least once on our honeymoon due to food. Stay away from anything fish. Absolutely disgusting. Also the rooms, while spacious and well kept were very humid and moist. While that's to be expected in the Dominican there is a constant smell of mold in the rooms and you can see the line of mold/water damage in our rooms. We booked a king junior suite and upon arrival were given a room with double queen beds, as if we didn't notice. We had to complain multiple times and wait several hours for our "upgraded" room that we found was just as nice as everyone else's. The other thing we didn't like was the constant of people trying to persuade us for excursions, pictures, and nightbclubs. Takes away from the serenity and experience of the resort. The pools were also very cold. Even the hot tub in our preferred section was luke warm at best.

Overall we had a great time, the service members make the trip.. but we would likely explore other options upon return.

Lovely place, food mostly good but a few let downs. Bar staff on the beach were fantastic as was the location. No kids so beru peaceful.

Had a wonderful time. Everyone we worked with was friendly and helpful. There's a variety of food options and their beach was clean and offered some privacy. We enjoyed it so much we are planning a second trip already! Martin was great to work with.

Mallorca 2.0 for the Americans. Rest is not found here and complaints about all sorts of things are ignored. Value for money in no way justified.

We had a wonderful, relaxing time. Service, food and drinks were good. Room was very clean. Fun things to do or do nothing at all.

Good food. Friendly people. outside tubs were awesome, switched from Melia which was the worst experience to the best place.

This may have once been a 5 start resort but it isn't right now. The staff was very good for the most part. The physical structure is first class. But the food, service and beverages are below average.

The first room had no hot water and no internet. We waited for 90 minutes after we called to try again. The following day we changed rooms.

The internet in the rooms is unusable. At best it was 2 mbps down and 0.25 up. Some of the public stress have much better speeds. A zoom call was not possible in the room.

The house wine could have been used as vinager for the salad dressing. It was not drinkable. We purchased bottles of decent wine from the wine steward at $55 per. There was no Crown Royal or Irish Whiskey of any brand. The beer was el Presidente. Occasionally there was Corona. There were no craft beers at all.

I think COVID gets used as an excuse too much. There are still good wines for sale, Crown is still being made and Craft Breweries are everywhere. Are room was over $600 a night. For that I expect much better. I won't be back.

It's not worth the money it charges, on the beach no restaurant or almost no need you to pay a surplus, not never telling I'm going to return.

A holiday of a life time. Hotel staff could not do enough for you. The beaches and hotel were spotless, cocktails out of this world. I will 100% be returning to this place I have a love for.

We LOVED our stay at Secrets. The entire resort is very clean, the rooms are even mopped daily. Every single staff member was extremely happy and provided excellent service. The food is mediocre at best, however, at the beach snack shack grill it was AMAZING. They grilled burgers, chicken, tuna, salmon, shrimp, and lobster and served it with drinks at patio seating on the beach. The beaches are great and the water is very nice. The entertainment provided at both Secrets and at Now Larimar was also very good. We had a perfect honeymoon and would go back in a heartbeat.

We stayed at Secrets Royal Beach from July 14-July 20, 2013. The beach was gorgeous...The resort...not so much. It was nice and everything, but the service was not very good. The first morning we ran out of toilet paper, even after housekeeping had already come and didn't put any extra rolls in the bathroom. Also, housekeeping took our wash cloths and towels and did not replace them. The room was very hot and there is no way to control the tempurature.
We read there was a dress code at the restaurants at night so we dressed the way we were supposed to even though we would have much rather worn shorts and flip flops only to find they let you in no matter what you wear.
The food was not very good, very bland and not much of a selection. Every place we ate had few choices. Oceana was my favorite place to eat, only because our server, Ramon, was very nice and attentive.
No matter what bar we went to whether it be the lobby, pool, Moments, etc we always had to wait a while to even ask for a drink. It's not even like it was busy. When we did get a fozen drink it was watery, not frozen. I did notice they would say hi to you if you fashed cash at them.
We felt like the staff was just "going through the motions" and didn't care about customer service at all.
I will say Mr. New York was fun. He made sure people at the beach were entertained when he was around, and also at the pool at 4:00 when he was around.
I won't be going back to Secrets because of the lack of attention and lack of service.
We were told we could use our resort coupons at the spa, not true. We were told we could use our resort coupons at the casino, not true.

It's good! We've been to quite a few Secrets now. This isn't the best we've been to, that was probably Silver Sands in Mexico, however it's got the best food in terms of the quality of the red meat in particular and the most attentive staff we have had as well. Buildings are a little tired and the rooms could do with some renovation. We were upgraded for free to Preferred club which was a lovely surprise.

Excellent hotel! Since you check-in, all the staff strives to make you feel at home. The food is good and varied with multiple restaurants to choose from, unlimited cocktails and very good quality, as well as nightly shows every day for all tastes. The beach is clean and quiet, and the pools are very good and neat. During our stay, we noticed that the hotel does not house too many people at the same time, which translates into a certain air of exclusivity, as well as tranquility and absence of lines to access the services, making the stay very enjoyable. We will definitely repeat in the future.

Great hotel for adults without children. Clean rooms, wide selection of dishes in the different restaurants. The very friendly staff complete the positive stay here. When booking, you should also book the Preferred Club. You then have your own reception, butler service, other restaurants, bars, pools and beach areas. The spa is also a dream.

Excellent everything, attention and comfort is worth it, I would return without hesitation.

Enjoyment is very important here. At the moment I am relaxing this hotel for the second time. In short, pure luxury. There are only a few Germans here, but the staff tries to speak to me in German. Every day you are asked whether everything is okay and you can raise concerns immediately. Everything is also constantly being cleaned and repaired. Would be complaining here, because there really is no help.
In the words of the hotel ... it's all EXCELENTE

Update: At the moment I'm back in the Secret Royal in room 4208. The service is perfect again, but the neighboring hotel is closed and there is construction going on. I would particularly like to praise Ms. Torres for her commitment and good knowledge of German.

The only weak point would be the food, because for such an upper class resort, you could expect better food, not that it doesn't taste good, there is enough choice to find something that suit you, but not all restaurant are always open, I guess it s because of low season in june... but anyway, the positive aspect is that you won't gain 10pounds during your stay, but only 4 ;)

This was a trip to celebrate our anniversary and the honeymoon we had never had. We were so excited to finally get there after MONTHS of planning/paying on this trip. We had a few issues with the room and my husband went to the concierge desk to discuss. The young man that helped my husband looked disinterested and didn t look like he understood what my husband was saying. My husband felt like he was getting blown off when the young man started speaking to another employee in their language. Nothing was done to fix anything. In chatting with Usher out on the beach and then Fernando at the pool the following day, we mentioned the issues we were having and that afternoon a crew was in our room fixing the ceiling fan and jacuzzi for us. That was awesome and much appreciated and we felt like things were looking up! What wasn t awesome was pulling the curtain at sliding door to take a nap and discovering the entire curtain covered in mold spots and then mold up near AC vent that was blowing down over our bed. (There was also some mold in the bathroom and the torn wallpaper that the house keepers piled wash cloths in front of to hide too, but no exhaust fans inside a bathroom can create that so we overlooked that). This was the final straw for me. When I took pictures of the mold down to Raquel, she was very calm and helpful and got us moved to a better room. She even helped carry our stuff to the new room which was soooo much cleaner and more comfortable with access to the lazy river pool! (Same type of room but you could tell instantly it was a cleaner room when you walked in). So thankful for Raquel!!

The food at all the restaurants was just okay. I think we liked the outdoor BBQ shack and the Carnival buffet at NOW the best. We were first in the door one night at the Oceana restaurant and were told that there were no scallops despite them being on the menu. I could understand running out at the end of the evening, but we were first in and it was a main item of the menu!?

Thankfully, Usher, Chocolate, Spaghetti and El Grupy were so much fun with activities around the pool and beach during the day and around the plaza at night!!! So kind and caring and fun to talk to! Angel and Fernando kept our drinks flowing and kept us laughing around the pool area. Jeisy and Esthela were the wonderful ladies on the beach that took great care of us and we enjoyed talking to them a lot. Roberto from the towel hut was kind enough to bring us good cushions for our chairs at our new room. Greisy and Scarlen were our favorite waitresses at the plaza in the evenings. Their smiles and hugs were awesome. Charina and Cely at the Carnival buffet were so sweet and we enjoyed talking with them too. Charina even made my iced coffee just right while having a mimosa ready for my husband. And finally, Caterin in the gift shop - she was not only beautiful in person, but such a sweet girl and very helpful. I sure hope all the staff is compensated accordingly, because If it had not been for all those that I have named in this review, our trip would have been a huge disappointment. Those folks are the ONLY reason I would consider returning to this property. Just so I can see all of THEM again. They truly did make us feel like family. As I told Raquel, I wasn t happy when I was in that first room due to many issues that we were having, and that she and the other staff members I listed are the best thing going at this resort and they all deserve to be acknowledged! I would also recommend having someone at the concierge and/or front desk that can speak English because it was very confusing and frustrating trying to speak with them and conveying what we meant when setting up reservations or trying to explain issues with our room. I would also recommend that if they re going to make fun of us in their language, maybe they should wait until we walk away, because some of us do know a few words they re saying. I was so glad to have come across Raquel at last!

Great vacation spot, great views, and friendly staff. Food was alright some places it could be better but beach grill was the best spot.

We are staying here for this moment and it is just perfect. Everything is nice, the food is perfect. The staff is super friendly. One word...excellente. A big thank you to the friendly staff .
