My husband and we were there at this resort from Sept 5th to Sept 12nd 2019 for our honeymoon vacation. it was our first time to Dominican and 1st time with this Secrets brand. Overall experience, I would never recommend this hotel (even all chained brands, AMresorts) to any of my friends and families.
First, I would like to say the pros of this place. It is an absolutely beautiful resort. very nice beach and cute pool. there are lots of space with shade around both pool and beach areas~~adults only~~and entertainments different every night, which is probably very import for someone. rooms are big and clean; the bed is very comfortable. the room bars always full of water, beers, soft drinks and juices as well. rooms are cleaned twice per day~~cleanness are very good~~large bathroom, got Jacuzzi on the balcony. The seafood restaurant is very tasty.
However, there are lists of things that not make my vacation very relaxing.
original booked Now Larimar Punta Cana. By Aug 27th which is one week before our departure, we were informed by email that the original hotel we booked Now Larimar Punta Cana will be closed for renovations from Aug 20 to Dec 15 2019. We can choose either accept the relocation to Secrets Royal Beach Punta Cana, or change hotel/dates/destination at new rates without change penalty or cancel the reservation and at a full refund. And the check-in was very slow and the front desk people was not making me feel welcome~~they were friendly and polite but did not make you feel welcome~~it seems like that they do not want to do their jobs~~ as long as we got the resort, we figure out only Secrets Royal Beach is opened and other two resorts are both closed, as well as the shared facilities. Which means, we are going to spend our 7 night within only a quit small resort area with only 4 restaurants. If any of you like to check the resort map on their website, the side for Secrets Royal Beach is very small. Small buffet area and small restaurants, very limited areas to stay.
The biggest problem we had with this resort is we spend almost one and half day for their Unlimited Vacation Package presentation. very push sales, force you to sign the contract, 8:30am from the morning until 4pm in the afternoon, just wont let you go until you buy. and would not let you spend time to read the fine prints on the conract. Next day, we went to cancel our purchases, and spend another 2 hours with all their new offers and lectures. So my suggestion is do not go the presentation if you do not want to spend 2/7 days of your vacation wasting time on nothing true. And DO NOT BUY UNLIMITED VACATION CLUB MEMBER. I am not saying if they are scam, but my whole experience and feelings are they are not selling what they are claim they are offering. Maybe we are not smart enough to tell their tricks at the very first place, if we could we might not lose our time to it.
The salespeople for water sport/excursion are also very aggressive in the resort. They are very where. They chase you through the beach, the pool, the lobby, wherever you go they will find you~~ you have to show absolute ZERO interest to their stuff, otherwise they will chase you until you paid. Very annoying and not relaxing at all.
Very limited choice of food at buffet. The taste is ok but very limited choice. Staffs at restaurants are friend but not feel like working.
Beach area was not considered clean too me, and restrooms are a little bit far by the restaurant side. Lots of seaweed in the water, not sure if it because of the season.
So overall, not a very relaxing vacation. The resort is clean, food are fair, beautiful pool and beach area, but limited space to kill time quietly and relax. Would not recommend for friends and family. Felled more tire after vacation.
Very recommended! Adult-only resort, so most guests are couples on vacation, honeymoon or birthday. Very cool entertainment team, with lots of activities on the beach in the morning and in the afternoon in the afternoon. Nightly show inside the resort. This is always accompanied by good food and drinks. All staff always willing to help and always happy.

I m staying at this resort till Friday and i hate it since the first day were to start our room is old nothing works.Safe is broken bathroom missing a light balcony door you cam break your arm when you open it .when i asked to move to another room they told me you have to pay more money for a room with a view.Today at 8 am in the morning you can hear drilling they are working at the resort next door .Food is gross nothing os tasty .This was by far the worst experience ever and this was my last vacation in punta cana .
Save your money people this resort is a total disappointment.
It is a very relaxing place and the attention is spectacular.
Food is really horrible. Period. Don t let anyone tell you otherwise! The nicer restaurants that require you to dress up serve the worst food imo. Frozen peas and cream of chicken soup sauce no joke. The best meal was a steak at one seaside restaurant. The staff are not friendly. They are fake and not generous or kind imo. Drinks. There is NO ALCOHOL in your beverage. Period. Don t let anyone tell you otherwise. So it s a ripoff for all inclusive. The lodging is great. Adult television is great. The pools and lounge areas are abundant. Very relaxing just wish they had provided decent food and beverage with my all inclusive package. Glad I didn t get sick or die. Never going back.
Had to ask for water on the third day because they did not fill our refrigerator. They took the last two towels out of our room while we had dinner. No towels, no bath mat, no wash rags but we do have one hand towel. I will go some place cheaper to get treated like I don't matter!!!! Thanks for the great honeymoon treatment!!!

Unfortunately we are disappointed with the system and the service. We're still here for a week, but that's enough. The reception in the evening was very grumpy and short. After the first sleepless night (our room was near the reception and the evening entertainment at full volume) we asked for another room ... we got this after a second sleepless night. The staff in the restaurant is always short ... a tip will certainly help, as one would expect ... now we have pulled the Dominican Peso from the ATM and have been trying to change these into smaller tips for tips in the hotel for a few days now , so that many get something from the staff without success .... that's really disappointing. In our room the shower head, the telephone, the safe was broken and some of the room service orders did not work (waiting time, wrong food, forgotten things, minibar not replenished) We are now in the Domrep for the third time and do not regret it again to have left in The level by Melia.

Nice clean hotel with very well-kept garden area. Super nice staff. Nicely located right on the beach. While eating you can see the sea. The food at the Sea Side Grill is particularly delicious and the staff there are excellent. Thanks Carlos, Rafael and everyone else for the great service !!!
The beaches are covered with seaweed and a very gaseous smell. Not there fault, it is an environmental event.
The hotel placed us in a swim-out room that was literally 20yards from a construction site for a new hotel. There is banging and men looking at my wife all day Saturday and Sunday included.
Finally got moved to a new room. Now the Wifi is down on the whole property all day literally all day. By the way, your personal concierge is only reachable by iMessage lol
Whoops, trying to use the in-room phone to call house keeping, front desk, concierge and even room service noone is answering the phones.

Excellent time! All the staff were incredible, especially Angel in the pool area! He was incredibly fast with any requests and very friendly! Jacqueline at La Rivera made sure we had everything we needed to get our day started!

We are currently staying here for my friend s birthday and just had a pretty embarrassing experience. We are staying on the preferred side, which gives you access to premium liquor, and the security followed 2 of my friends over to the chairs and made a big scene in front of everyone. We are the only black people at the pool, and the only ones who were asked for a key. We felt like criminals even though we had our keys. They were so irritated they left and went to the beach instead and when we complained to a superior we were told that now they recognize us so it wouldn t happen again. It definitely put a damper on this experience and the only reason I am giving 2 stars is because there have been many other people here who have been great
It is always a pleasure to visit this hotel in Punta Cana, it is ideal for couples since they do not admit children.
Great resort. Adults only. Amazing customer service. Great restaurants. Clean rooms with good AC and all have jacuzzi on the balcony. Not too crowded and not too large. Getting from one place to another is actually easy. Great entertainment. They clean up weeds from the beach which other resorts didn't do. Both romantic but also good parties.

Nicest place on the whole beach - everyone there is friendlier than you would ever expect and they take great care of you. Now Larimar (next door) doesn t compare to the level of care that we received at Secrets.
I stayed here for 5 days with my friend and everything about this trip was AMAZING. The staff was professional and always made sure we were having a good time. Our butler Elvis was very helpful, he would call and ask if we needed anything and if we did he would take care of it right away. Johan was always available to pick us up and made the rides to our room so fun. Israel the bartender in front of the restaurant made the best drinks! very professional and made us feel like we were at home. The bartenders at the pool area were also really fun and were always offering their best drinks. Yariren was very helpful when it came to the excursions, gave us all the details and made sure we wouldn't miss the ride since he knew we were always staying out till late :D Edison one of the chefs at the Asian restaurant called Himitsu made the BEST food, my friend and I were craving mangu since we got there and he was kind enough to make it for us. It was delicious. Ariel was super nice and also took good care of us in the restaurant. Francis took good care of us with drinks when we were at the beach parties. Javier was very good at his job, always made us laugh and always kept us busy doing activities. The dancers Andy and Anthony were super nice and fun, they would always make sure people were dancing and having a good time. The rooms were always clean. Housekeeping would go twice a day, so we always had a clean bed. Everything was great those 5 days. We were so sad to leave and already miss all of them. Thank you guys for making us feel at home. We will be back soon!!
Lovely Resort and Staff very welcoming and attentive. Recognition to Vannesa bringing your drinks on the beach. She is amazingly lovely and to Ariel, who was at the buffet beach front. Riveaira, he will be a manager, warm welcoming professional. What a compliment to his surroundings.
Hotel in general is good / reasonable, yet it is very oriented to the North American market, to be well attended need to give employees with dollars constantly, a regular habit by Americans. Within the resorts there are areas restricted to customers "perferedclub", being a luxury hotel I consider the action inappropriate ... I do not advise Portuguese, we have less treatment than an American or Canadian, being very evident the difference in treatment .. I do not recommend ... plus the hotel allows the beach and within sellers resorte who are constantly pestering customers to sell trips, turs, objects ...... the beach is full of seaweed ... the elevators are constantly fails .... Just highlight as possessive the food, moreover leaves much to be desired ....

It was better last year. The quality has diminished greatly. The amis are in the majority and just do not tolerate alcohol. Also there is no free w-lan. Cost extra and not a little bit. $ 25 per day. If you think every Mc Donald is free, you could expect that from a 5 star hotel.
My husband and I just got back from 5 days at this resort. This was our first time at a Secrets resort and the first thing I noticed was that the resort needs updating. I think Secrets was a very high end resort to stay at one time, but now it seems other resorts such as Excellence have taken over that. The food was bland. I would say go to the Italian restaurant if you want something remotely good. The staff at the pool is attentive and it s nice that they walk around and bring drinks to you, although the drinks are extremely watered down. I actually witnessed one of the staff pouring out champagne from the Bellini he was serving me to fill it with more juice. I don t really see the point in this, it just seems like you re wasting alcohol to me, but maybe they re worried about guests getting too drunk. The one major thing with the staff and the hotel in general that they need to work on right away is the constant knocks on the door every night to tell us what s going on the next day. It s extremely rude and disruptive.
Staff is very attentive, excellent costumer service, facilities, rooms and all. I'll just say the have to work a little on making their shows a little more put together, since sometimes they come out like they are just improvising as they go.
I give this rating do to the poor service at the pools!

The Japanese restaurant is sublime, the buffet is to be preferred at Now Larimar but also the Secrets one is fantastic,
Impeccable hygiene the super clean rooms and the buffet even wash your hands with antiseptic before entering the room, fruit, fish meat vegetables of all kinds, pizza pasta rice in any way, breakfast both English, American and continental breakfast to say the least fantastic Italian.
You feel pampered like principles. Fun and really specialized staff always available and of the highest level.
The structure is formidable, every detail well taken care of, the shows in the evening are by professionals, fantastic drinks .. coco loco is world-wide
The beach is very clean and breathtaking, daily activities that are too fun are organized: beach volleyball, bowls, volleyball in the water, foam party, group dances, morning stretching and aerobics, Spanish lessons, salsa lessons, beach barbecues, dances of various kinds , unlimited drinks, world rum, group games such as shooting and other beach classics .. in short, I could not expect better ..

I took away one star for the resort allowing souvenir and excursion hawkers to bother you all day long on the beach. Beware especially of the men with the iguana, macaw and monkey. They offer to take your pictures with your camera of the animals on you- THEN will tell you you owe them a ridiculous amount of money! I had no problems at all at the two other Secrets I've been too. All three have been great except for the above issue. If I want souvenirs or excursions I will go to their stores on site. I do not want to be bothered on the beach when I'm on an expensive vacation! Also these souvenir hawkers told me they pay the hotel for permission to bother people while they are lounging on the beach so the reply to my post is not truthful. I can understand when you get by the water, cause it is a public beach but the lounge chairs are far back from the water. I came here for the ocean but ended up mostly at the pool just to get away from the hawkers- could have saved a ton of money and stayed home and swam in my own pool!
We had a wonderful week at Secrets- great room, beautiful beach, lovely restaurants (Seaside Grill was our favorite) and excellent service from the friendly staff! Robinson was our personal Butler and checked with us every day to arrange reservations, make helpful suggestions and plan special surprises just for us! We hope everyone will be lucky enough to be assigned to wonderful Robinson! The beach cabanas were Great and so comfortable- Juan was attentive and made our day more wonderful!

Super nice hotel-own beach with free sun beds, umbrellas and bath towels. Very large, well-kept pool area. The rooms are beautifully and varied prepared every day. Terrace with whirlpool. The room bar is replenished daily. All inclusive is really true, the only thing that costs is whole bottles of wine or champagne. There is also no need for colored bracelets. Super nice holidays if you would like to relax in a large hotel complex. Unfortunately, in this region it is not advisable to go exploring without a local guide.
I would always go back to this hotel.
Beautiful place to spend a vacation. The resort had everything - no reason to leave. The Apple excursions were great! The resort employees were all very nice, especially the restraunts breakfast staff.

We would like to highlight at the bar Jeffrey Espiritusanto because of his excellent language skills in German and his friendly and courteous service makes you feel at home in this hotel. We would also like to mention the bar colleagues Juan, and Fernando Solano at the pool. We look forward to our next visit and hope to find everything as usual.

This is our third visit in the last 5 years but our first visit to secret royal. Some things were not as good at this resort like the others, first most notably the food is not well seasoned. I was really holding off until my complete stay to write this review but after my wife got sick last night did it for me. We ate at the Japanese restaurant off the regular menu she got the spring roll as an appetizer and the pad thai for her main course I looked at her face after she took the first bite and ask her is it good she said ok. She went along and ate half but about an hour leaving the restaurant she said her stomach wasn't feeling well we went back to the room and that's where she started to vomit up all she had, my meal was the fry rice it was just ok. I wish I was living here I would offer a free course just for the chefs. As a chef and owner of restaurants I don't want to bash their food but they need to step it up. I am still having a great vacation with my wife. Our butler Argenis is wawesome, He went above and beyond to make sure we are having fun. If not for him, this may have been a 2 star review. Most of the staff were very friendly and helpful. Housekeeping is great so far. The entertainment staff, is awesome. They really seemed to enjoy their jobs and got everyone involved in activities. the water sports staff was also very pleasant and helpful. The beach is beautiful and well maintained. Just lying in the sun, looking at the water and relaxing was incredible. We did check out the spa on our first day and it was amazing. Not sure if we would return or try another resort mostly due to the fact that the food did not seem fresh but more mass produced which was disappointing.
Great hotel. It couldn't be better. Great service. Great beach. The pool stretches through the entire hotel complex. Beach bar available. Pool bar available. Buffet is really great. Every day there is a barbecue on the beach. Great view from the restaurant. Recommendable.
The resort was great, staff was fantastic. The food was mediocre but unlimited so theres that.
Very nice people, food was ok. I use that term loosely. Other than the keg room across the hall from us making all kinds of noise. It was a good place to vacation.

It wasnt up to the Secrets brand. Have stayed at secrets else where and it was 5 star. First off...the people trying to get you to listen to the "timeshare " pitch. What a waste of an entire morning! The pool area was under staffed. Usually only 2 servers for entire pool! At times we were not treated very nicely by wait staff in resturants. We also had dinner on the beach at an extra fee. The meal was disgusting! Waited 45 minutes for a pre planned meal to even be served. Plus when the entree got there...very mushy lobster and a hockey puck for a filet...we had to use our flashlights on our phone to see what we were eating. Made a comment to concierge about not being happy. They did give us 50% off the meal but offered no apologies or concern. The bright side was our cleaning staff. They treated us very nicely and the turn down service was top notch!
A great getaway, yes. But bring your own wine (choices are lacking) and lots of dollars for tipping. It's expected. Room service was quick though... and the preferred club restaurant was the most consistent. Beach was beautiful... and nightlife was fun.
Loved the resort but got really tired of the food selection in the restaurants. You can grab a hot lunch right on the beach. Do not miss this. It s the best food you ll have. They made paella on our last day. Delicious. Most of the staff wasn t that friendly and it wasn t as clean as other resorts I ve visited in this price point.
Overall, the wife and I really enjoyed our 5 night stay at Secrets Royal Beach. It is located on a property with two other resorts and Secrets is the most expensive of the three and the adults only resort. The "adults only" really becomes apparent when you're flipping through your TV channels and stumble across the Brazzers network. Simply awesome.
The reason Secrets is more expensive than the Now Larimar resort right next to it is because you get access to the other two resorts on the property.
A quick run-down:
Secrets- Adults only, access to all 3 resorts. 4 Restaurants.
Now Larimar - built in 2007 so its newer and it shows in the construction
and decor. Biggest of the Resorts and fairly priced. 4
restaurants and a buffet.
Now Gardens - Cheapest resort and very small. Only a buffet and Italian
Restaurant. Didn't even go here(is a shuttle ride or long
walk away) and didn't need to.
Activities:
We noticed Secrets is a more relaxed resort with the average age of its guests being much older. My main gripe with the resort was the lack of things to do. Whereas my wife can lounge by the pool or beach all day and find this to be majestic and fulfilling, I quickly grow tired of it and I did find myself wishing there were more activities for me to partake in. Perhaps I'm a little spoiled by cruise ships with their long list of activities spanning every 15 minutes of the day, and the few activities that were offered were sparse and underwhelming.
Going in the ocean would have been nice but it was overflowing with seaweed--literally mountains--and nobody was swimming out there( not really the resorts fault but still have to mention it). The pool was nice though and I found myself hanging by the bar the majority of the time.
Rooms:
We loved our room. Every room here is a junior suite and it's large with updated modern designs. We had a garden view room which was nice due to it being located right in the middle of everything so nothing was too far away. Our first night I noticed some smeg on the top of the bed sheet which was disgusting and looked like a crusted blood clot and housekeeping was quick to change it. The mini fridge came stocked with cans of Presidente and water bottles. The bathroom was clean and very spacious.
Food:
I've seen on other reviews the food is hit or miss for some people but we really loved it! Breakfast is a must and the spread is fantastic. I did not care for the bacon though which was smoked. I'm a bacon purist and prefer the non-smoked variety. And the lunch we found to be just as good. The resort was not too busy the week we went so we never had to wait for a table at the restaurants(which are only open at night). The OCEANA was really good and the Sole was flaky, tender, and delicious, but the ribeye here was not that great and lacked flavor.
The ribeye at the SEASIDE GRILL however was amazing and came served sizzling on a skillet with a beautiful crust, however, don't expect the "chefs" to get the temperature right. A medium steak could come out as rare or well done, it's all up for grabs. My wife had the Filet here and it was great as well.
The HIBACHI and sushi were not worth it in my opinion and should be skipped, but maybe I'm spoiled from the excellent sushi and hibachi I've had locally in South Florida. My wife agreed though, skip it and just eat at the Japanese restaurant with their regular menu offerings.
The FRENCH restaurant at Now Larimar was by far our favorite and we ate there a few times. The dough stuffed with goat is out of this world and the lamb shank was amazing. The sauces...wow.
We had a bad experience with ROOM SERVICE since it showed up cold and they didn't even get our order right.
Bars:
Our favorite bar was the MOMENTS bar at Now Larimar and it by far served the best drinks on the whole property. These were the only bartenders I could find who knew what a "splash" of cranberry meant.

In a lot of ways this was paradise. Unfortunately the all included food and drink was lackluster. I would still recommend Secrets to anyone looking for a beautiful get away.
Beware! Staying here now. Although advertised as a 5 star resort, we have been extremely disappointed. We were harassed from the very first day we were here to purchase upgrades. They told us we had a required appointment our first morning here to arrange our transfer time back to airport for departure day. However, little did we know that this was just a ploy to sit through a 3 hour sales pitch to purchase a time share to their resort. Very disappointing to be robbed of our leisure time in paradise. Although the beach is beautiful with white sand and tourqoise water, it is public. This means that every ten minutes someone is harassing you to purchase a cigar or trinket. No romantic, peaceful walks on the beach. Then, they have come by each day at 6 pm for turn down service. We literally have just walked in from spending 8 hours on the beach and trying to shower before dinner. We asked them to come back and have been denied. We have reported to front desk repeatedly and still no resolution. This means no bottled water or clean towels. To make matters worse, we ran by the gift shop to make an emergent purchase of aloe for my severe sunburn. Once we got to the register, they told us we had to pay in cash. When we paid, she asked for a smaller bill because they were closing. We told her we didn t have any (we were saving our smaller bills for tips for waiters and bartenders). She was very rude and said there s nothing we can do. We asked her to go to front desk and was told no. We reported to front desk and they said they always run out of change there in the evening. This is an unreasonable standard for a five star resort in my opinion. This was the gift shop within our resort, not some side hussle on the street. The staff were unhelpful and unwilling to help us. We will never stay at this chain resort again! It s so sad, because we read review after review to find the perfect resort in the Dominican. Unfortunately, this just wasn t it.
We had such a wonderful week at this resort! We spent most of our time relaxing by the beautiful beach and hanging out by the swim up bar! We usually ended the night at the evening entertainment show. Plenty of options to keep you entertained! I have to say the people that work here made our stay even better! They all went above and beyond to make sure we were having a good time! I have to give a shout out to Eddy, Garfield, Spaguetti, Milky way, Jhon G., and of course Angel! We had so much fun with these guys!

My husband and I spent our honeymoon here in June 2012, and holy National Lampoon Honeymoon! Our first night, noticed the strong mildew odor, mildew on the room walls and the air conditioning was not working. Thought, third world country, oh, well. Until the second night. After spending a morning having a time share pitched to us in a very comfortably air conditioned room, we tried getting them to fix ours. The mechanic spoke no English so I used a translator. He told me to give it a few hours. A few hours later, still nada. Then I asked for a room change and was given a hard time. The new room was blissfully cool, but...there was a huge urine stain on the white comforter, broken tiles on the shower floor and a huge infestation of insects making trails across the bathroom. In the night, we were a feast for the bedbugs. Another couple from the UK got disgusted at the resort shutting down all the lights and having no entertainment after 10pm and they left to go to Iberostar. Fortunately, I videotaped EVERYTHING and submitted it to our credit card company for a refund. We gave them multiple opportunities to fix things while we were there, but nobody there seemed overly concerned about a couple who spent $5000 for a honeymoon in a suite that was infested with mildew and insects. The food was really good, though.

Incredible experience we are having and we are only 2 days in to a week long vacation. We have been to many secrets resorts and I can't express how lovely the people are here. We first met Milein Reyes at the check in Desk at the preferred member's area. She was always smiling and full of important information to make sure we have the best vacation. We next met our Butler Marcelo, happy,kind, and happy to make sure our stay is great. We had to meet the manager Juan Manuel because we had a problem with no hot water in our ocean front master suite. Juan was so kind and accommodating that by the end of our day we had an upgraded spectacular room. I think the best in the place. I truly can't express the Goodwill and kindness everyone has shown to make our vacation perfect. Marty and I still have 4 more days to enjoy paradise and we can't wait!! Again, thank you Juan,Milein, and Marcelo!!!

I did not think this resort was as nice as others I've been to. Also the entertainment staff was very pushy and actually forced us to make a review of the resort while looking over our shoulder!
Great resort! Great food , great service and wonderful entertainment. Only negative- check in on the first day took way too long at the preferred club, he was using typical lengthy and annoying sales pitches for us to upgrade to the preferred club.
