All staff (Day shift and a Night shift) were outstanding! Never once were they rude or disgruntled. Each time that the nurses examined my wife, they would explain everything throughly. And on top of that, our room was huge!

Thank you from the the bottom of our heart for all nurses and C.N.A who worked with my new family!

Thank you Mercy Gilbert!

My dad had his successful carotid endarterectomy surgery in this hospital after him experiencing a stroke. The medical staff were fast to pinpoint the cause of his stroke from a plaque in his carotid artery. Now he is recovering well. All the doctors, nurses and staff were great!

We took my mom to the ER here on the 15th with a rectal bleed. She was on the cusp of needing a transfusion when she was discharged on the 19th. Early the next morning, and early the following morning, I had to call the fire department to get her back into bed. The FOLLOWING day (22nd), we called the 24 hour nurse for her insurance, who advised us to take her back to the ER. Inside the ER, we saw one of the doctors we saw the last time. He was on days as a hospitalist, and made sure she got adequate care this time, including a blood transfusion. Thank you Dr. David Bebawy.

This is seriously the best hospital I've ever experienced. I came in for severe abdominal pain and they made sure they did everything they could to figure out the problem! Sure enough I had to get rushed back to surgery for appendicitis and also an extremely large cyst. I've had nothing but the highest care possible. We love this hospital so much we drove 3 hours from Yuma to come here. Yuma ER sucks and I would never step foot in that place again. They told me my pain was all in my head. I came here and they figured out my problem and fixed me!! I also delivered my 2nd son here at Mercy Gilbert and it was the BEST experience ever. I'll continue to drive 3 hours away each time I need to be seen in an Er. Best place ever

Daughter is having her baby here. Have been given somewhat of the run around , different answers to the same question. Told one thing then told another. And are defiantly not family oriented. Seems like they are bothered that family is even present. Such a disappointment being it's a once in a life time event. With so many other options I would definitely look into other hospitals before this one .

I had to get some testing done at the inpatient facility. This place was efficient and everyone was so friendly. The area I was in for my tests had "regulars" that would come in for various reasons. The nurses greeted them by name, spent time catching up on what had happened since they were in last and listened to their stories. It was so heartwarming to see the love and care shown. It made my hours there fly by. Thank you to all that assisted me today, you were all amazing and I appreciate you!

Avoid the ER. Just avoid it. I went there with excruciating pain and swelling in my hand; the only worse pain I have ever had is a CSF leak for a year. I have many conditions, including rare diseases, but do not take pain medications. The doctor did some tests on me and told me, "Good news, there's nothing wrong with you." I said, "Except the fact that I'm in excruciating pain and my hand is visibly swollen and changing from red to white." And she said, "Yes, except that. We don't have to treat you, we just have to make sure you're not dying." It was only after the visit that I found out that she falsified my records and said that I have full range of motion. I didn't and I don't. The hospital also said that they stand behind what she said, and oh, she's not an employee, so it doesn't matter. It takes a lot of effort to try to get records corrected. It's nearly impossible to get doctors reprimanded. I was in their ER briefly back in 2009 (if that tells you how often I actually go to the ER) and they were just as useless back then. Unless your heart or your eyeballs are falling out, keep driving to the next hospital.

The ER overall (equipment, etc) did not seem clean. Not a single person examining my daughter - nurses, Doctor, etc... used the sanitizer foam on their hands without being asked! This should be automatic before touching a patient. The charge nurse that came in to review the discharge instructions (the only one not actually doing an exam) did use the sanitizer. The doctor that saw my daughter did a very cursory exam and skipped elements that should have been included for a child with a fever and her symptoms. She received the treatment she needed at the moment, but if we need ER services again we will try a different location.

I was in the emergency room for a stroke and then over night for tests. I cannot say enough good things about the doctors and nurses at the hospital. I was given exceptional care.
I do have one gripe though. No one showed me how to use the magic wand to operate all the electronics. I ended up sleeping with the lights on and the bed up because I did not know what button to push.
This time I was in for pneumonia and spent a week. I could not have gotten better care. And they showed me how the controls work. :)
The hospital is also designed with the families in mind. There was a pull-out couch for my wife to sleep on and they supplied blankets, sheets and pillows. Family are allowed to visit at any time, day or night.

I would NEVER recommend this hospital to anyone. ...

I would NEVER recommend this hospital to anyone. The way I was treated is VERY upsetting. I went to Gilbert Mercy as a direct admit from a Dignity Emergency Hospital. I needed an emergency Appendectomy. When I arrived in the emergency room it took about 30 min to tale care of the attmittance, even though I was told I would be taken to my room when I arrived at the hospital. After finally finishing with admissions, I was given all my paperwork and pointed in the direction of my room, so here I am with my mom and 2 boys wondering the halls looking for my room. Once we found the nurses station by my room (rm. 463), the nurses looked shocked and asked us what we needed. I told them I guess I am in room 463, the nurses looked at us and pointed us to my room. The four of us walked into the room, wondering what I was supposed to do, get in bed? Sit on the bed, wait in the chair, I had no clue.....my room did not have a door, a bathroom, a sink or even a hand sanitizer. After about 10 minutes a nurse finally came into my room. That nurse NEVER put gloves on, washed her hands or put on hand sanitizer (from what we could see) when touching me. Had my surgery a few hours later. When the discharge nurse came in she NEVER checked my incisions, did not put any type of bandage over the incision. The discharge nurse lectured me about the importance of walking, to get the gases out of my abdomen (I had been up walking several times already). She then asked me "do you want a wheelchair or do you want to walk out?" I said "walk out I guess", she said "right answer!" So drugged up on pain pills I walked out of my 4th floor room and out to the parking lot.

For such a pretty hospital they sure treat their patients poorly!! I will NEVER go back to that hospital again! On top of everything they double charged me my co-pay. THANKS GILBERT MERCY MEDICAL CENTER!!

Took my husband to the ER back in September at abo...

Took my husband to the ER back in September at about 9pm for very high blood pressure and some stroke like symptoms. (He had no prior known high blood pressure). ER was busy, but they did get him back in a reasonable amount of time after his initial triage (did an EKG immediately because his BP was so high. Get to the back, IV started, labs drawn, hooked up to monitors, BP taken frequently (never got a diastolic below 100, most were 110ish), he felt horrible, dizzy, trailing vision, unsteady on his feet due to vision issues. Doc saw him and also ordered a CT to make sure he wasn't in fact having a stroke. Then.....we wait. 4+ hours later the nurse only checked back in once, no one had come to get him for his CT. I finally went out to the desk and asked about how much longer for CT. The gal says "well it can take a while to get the results read "(a STAT should be no longer than an hour), I then tell her "no, no...he hasn't even had his scan yet". That got the ball rolling and he was off 10 min later. Waited again for a while, the nurse comes in and we ask about his labs. Answer was "nothing stuck out as bad to me". Doc then comes in, says CT was normal, labs all normal except a blood sugar "in the 300's". WHAT?? Then he proceeds to tell us he "kinda would like to keep him so he can see Neurology the next day". This is now about 2:30am, they have done not one thing about his blood pressure, are absolutely not concerned about his blood sugar, he feels just as bad as he did 6+ hours prior when we 1st came in and the solution is to see neuro....we politely declined and said we would follow up with our primary care in the morning since they didn't do one thing to help with his actual problem of high BP and blood sugar. I was LIVID! Got the bill later on and total charges to insurance was over $17000....for basically nothing but some labs and a CT. Never will I take anyone I care about to this ER ever again.

My husband went to Mercy hospital for trouble breathing & pain going down his arm. He was treated nice by the Male nurse but the er doctor was rude & accused my husband that he was not sick and needed to clear his throat so he could talk better. Worse bedside manner of a doctor I have seen. My husband was in the er for 5 hours & then moved to the waiting room to wait for the doctor to speak with us. The doctor never showed but we were told my husband was fine & we were sent home.
Day later he went to another er & my husband was sent home with meds as he was very sick, As Mercy didn't take his chest pain or heart condition seriously. Thankfully we could go to another hospital that took his condition seriously & went above & beyond for us.

We've had two of our three babies here, and each time has been great. Nurses are friendly and considerate. If they see you and your baby are asleep, they'll come back later to do what they need to do. The hospital's maternity is all about doing things naturally, this was a big draw for my wife and I. I wouldn't recommend another place, excellent hospital.

Well, I can't express how amazing this hospital and their staff were to me during my labor and delivery experience. The nurses were WONDERFUL. I had a three day laboring process because I refused a CSection, as it so happens my daughters head was lodged in my hip and she couldn't make her way out vaginally. She was also a lot bigger than anticipated, we were thinking at least 8-9 lbs .. nope she was 10 lbs 6.3 oz 21 inches long. I decided at 10 am the fourth day that I needed to just have the surgery and she was born at 11:00 am on the dot. The CSection was SO fast and easy and I didn't feel a thing. (Thank you Grayson Guzman) The four days we stayed everyone that came in to our room we're so sweet and gentle and My baby made a ton of friends, everyone adored her! Every nurse that came in was so helpful and respectful, they made the first few days as a new mommy so easy, I was very sad to leave the hospital and the staff because they were so amazing. (Shout out to Tami Miller of L&D, Jessica of L&D, and Heather!) I will forever give recommendations to this hospital! Keep up the great work! Thank you for taking such wonderful care of my daughter and I!

A lot of facilities make claims that aren't reflected in staff's attitudes, BUT a recent unexpected overnight stay at Mercy Gilbert Medical Center epitomizes what it looks like when healthcare meets humanity and institutions live up to the claims they make.

From the patient care coordinator who greeted me when I was moved to the hospital wing from the ER, to the nurses who continuously monitored me throughout the night with warmth and reassurance in an effort to make me as comfortable as possible under trying circumstances, it quickly became apparent that Mercy Gilbert staff goes above and beyond to make a patient feel that the words printed on all hospital material touting "humankindness as having the power to heal," isn't just a slick marketing campaign. From the immaculate surroundings and efficient care, to the incredible communication and responsiveness from staff members back and forth to me as a patient, Mercy Gilbert Medical Center sets the gold standard for what a well-orchestrated approach to patient care looks like. This facility fulfilled its promise to me with more than mere words, that humankindness truly is at the heart of everything they strive to do at Dignity Health.

A huge thank-you to every single employee who I had the pleasure of interfacing with during my stay; I couldn't have asked for more exemplary care than I was given at Mercy Gilbert Medical Center!

I was just at the ER worst service ever. My pain is over a 10 they wheeled me out in the waiting room and just left me there I was having chest pains as well and the nurses seemed not to CARE. One nurse had the nerve to argue with me (some young girl with dark hair and her ponytail sits on top of her head). Now I'm on my way to Chandler maybe I'll have better service!!!!!!!!

Garbage. Absolute garbage. Went in to get the medical records for my hand being broken. Brunette woman at the desk gives me gives me every single record of me ever being in the hospital. Why on earth would she do that when I asked her for a specific document. I had someone with me that I would have rather had no seen the information provided on the first sheet to those records. Would this be considered a HIPPA violation due to poor handling? I will be looking more into this especially since the woman had the audacity to laugh at my frustration with how she went about giving me my documents.

I had to put a star otherwise I'd give them 0 starts. Worst care I've ever gotten in my life. Please go somewhere else if you are experiencing pain. And if you do go and have a PA named Nicole in the ER let me save you some money and time. Leave. The nurses at the nurses station in the ER sit and chat not a worry. One nurse even said my first and last name out loud. Loud enough for other patients to hear which is a HIPPA violation. Save your time and money find a better hospital. One that will care about your health and well being.

UPDATE: 12/26
Below is the copy of my original review. As of the time of this writing, I have called and left a voice mail with customer care 10x since 11/21. After each comment, Mercy Gilbert "note from owner" request that you call their customer care line. I have 10x. Please call me back.

Original Review posted 11/21
What a disaster. If I could give it a 0, I would.I took my wife to the ER in June of 19 for kidney stone issues, and we came out with more issues than when we went in.

Some of the complaints:
- ER is under construction - No privacy, very noisy
- ER was under the care of a paramedic, not a nurse.
- Phlebotomist excessively poked my wife, refused to stop when asked, and caused damage to my wife's veins.
- Lab lost a vial of blood causing another blood draw and extending our time in the ER
- We were never explained the amount we owed until we received a bill
- Bill was 2x larger than expected
- Only person that ever apologize was the 2nd phlebotomist and ER Dr (they were great)
- Months of dealing with the customer care department and only one concern (billing) was addressed
- Extreme lack of communication, no bed-side manners, horrific.

*I used to love Mercy Gilbert. They always treated us right and we have never had any issues. I am not sure what is going on but as you can see from the many 1 star complaints, Mercy Gilbert has changed.

*A friend of mine just got out of the ER last month and experienced the same concerns I did. The bill was never explained, the bill was lot more than other hospitals, and they also lost a vial of blood.

DO NOT GO HERE!

Deserves 0 stars. If you have a child that is too old to be treated on the Phoenix Children s Hospital floor of Mercy, DON T seek treatment at Mercy. Go to PCH!!!! Not kidding, it can kill them. My nephew just got transferred. Case manager took her time, giving everyone the run around to extend his stay, meanwhile his health kept deteriorating. Unfortunately, my nephew is the one who suffered. I just hope doctors at PCH can undo all the harm they did at Mercy.

I have spinal stenosis and went into the ER department in severe pain. I brought in paperwork from my surgeon and the MRI doctor who clearly state that I have this condition.
Physician assistant Monk arrived and immediately began asking me questions in a very accusatory manner, like I did something to his new puppy. Asked me how I could be in so much pain.
When I gave him the paperwork, he glanced over it and then told me to sit down. I couldn't because of the pain, even though I tried.
His bedside manner is absolutely horrible and eventually had to ask for a real doctor who was less judgemental and cranky. I'll never go back because of him and I'll never recommend this institution to others. Terrible ER department.

I went to the E.R. for an ectopic pregnancy. I was rushed back immediately (I appreciated the haste). The staff in admitting were very kind to me and patient. Ryan, my nurse was top notch. I was scheduled for surgery a few hours later. I'm not going to lie, I've heard some bad things about the OB at the hospital and was pretty nervous. Ryan made sure I was comfortable and checked on me frequently. I then had an ultrasound and we were off to the races. The first doctor that I met with made me nervous but then I met the OR doctor, Dr. Guzman. 1st of all, the ENTIRE OR staff was incredible (I'm sorry I don't remember your names). They were caring, soothing, and so very accommodating. They were patient and I could tell that they genuinely felt sympathy for what was happening to me. Dr. Guzman took his time to explain everything to me. I have worked for many different doctors in my career field and know that this is so rare. I instantly felt safe in his care. I could tell that he really cares for his patients, has a passion for what he does and likes to research. The anesthesiologist was also very friendly. This was one of the worst days of my life but these people (who didn't have to give a hoot about me) truly cared. Thank your all so much!!

Went in for an out-patient arthroscopic knee procedure and ended back in the hospital a couple of days later with severe pain in my knee & inability to breath. I was admitted with a blood clot in the calf of the leg I had the knee procedure done. I also ended up with numerous pulmonary embolisms in both lungs. During my stay, I had to wait at least 50 minutes for pain medication. This hospital is totally understaffed with nurses. Then, the CNAs I had did NOT have a clue as to what to do for me. I could barely walk and one CNA just stood & looked at me when I asked her to help me to the bathroom. I HAD TO ASK HER TO GIVE ME MY CRUTCHES. SHE WALKED BEHIND ME WITH MY IV POLE & LEFT ME AT THE BATHROOM DOOR. SHE DID NOT EVEN ATTEMPT TO ASSIST ME OR ASK ME IF I NEEDED HELP. WHEN I ASKED ANOTHER CNA FOR A BAG OF FRESH ICE TO PUT ON MY LEG, SHE TOOK IT, THEN JUST HANDED TO ME INSTEAD OF ASKING ME IF I NEEDED HELP PLACING IT. NO MORE, NEVER AGAIN WILL I GO TO THIS HOSPITAL.

While the medical care was excellent....BEWARE! They charge you an arm and a leg for services. What was a simple couple centimeter cut to be repaired in less than 15 minutes ended up costing THOUSANDS of dollars. Then to add insult to injury after they care for you and charge you a TON they mail you a month later asking for a donation because it costs a lot to run a hospital. I'm pretty sure I already gave them a $1,500 donation when they overcharged me. I'll be visiting Banner Medical from now on.

Worst hospital ever, major hippa violations. They ask patients personal information in the waiting room. In the 6 hours we have been here I know 10 peoples social security number. Nurse is not wearing gloves when giving patients medication in their iv.

I've been to the emergency department 4 or 5 times...

I've been to the emergency department 4 or 5 times and each time the staff was so supportive and helpful. All of the times I've been there except once they took me back within a few minutes. The last time I went I had a miscarriage in the hospital and this is the part about my experience there that I feel makes them deserve a 5 star rating... So they used to be a Catholic hospital and even though they are not officially affiliated with the Catholic church anymore the vibe and some of the practices are still there from the days when they WERE a Catholic hospital. One of the procedures or practices they still have is that they treat any miscarried baby - no matter the gestation - as a person. This is not always the case at every hospital. Some people just don't know what to think about babies who are born too soon - but Mercy Gilbert hospital treated my baby born at 12 weeks gestation with all the respect and gentleness that they would treat a full term baby with. They brought a councilor in to talk to me who cried with compassion for me. They also have a connection with Queen of Heaven Cemetery and the hospital will keep and preserve your baby's body for 3 months while you make arrangements with the cemetery for your baby's burial - all of this is completely free and optional. They hospital employees and doctors were very clear that everything was up to me - but that I had those services available if I wanted them. All the services the cemetery provides is also free. It means a lot to me that my baby was treated like a person and as a grieving mother it helped a lot to know that they care. They also gave me a really beautiful box of memory things to take home in honor of my baby. I recommend this hospital to anyone - they have a firm grasp on the value of life.

My wife has been here a few times because it's the...

My wife has been here a few times because it's the closest hospital and there has been good (4 star) and bad care but I'm giving one stars because the bad care scenario really was that bad.

First the not so bad saga:
This past weekend my wife went to the er for severe cough and dizziness. We discussed with the er staff that she had been to the er and admitted 3 times in the past month for the same thing.

The first time the Dr treated her for pneumonia in the lower right lung and discharged her after two days. My wife felt good when discharged and the quality of care this stay was great.

She went back in the next week after getting food poisening that aggravated her cough and the er Dr admitted her for aspirated pneumonia. After the first night of treatment at the hospital they realized there was no pneumonia but kept her another night anyways. Being treated and kept another night for nothing was a waste of time and a waste for the insurance company.

The third time she went to the er after waking up to her shoulder/chest popping which again caused the cough to come back with a vengence. She was once again admitted and given a cough syrup and breathing treatments (which worked wonderfully) but when they discharged her they gave her a different cough syrup that didn't work. Quality of care was great but not giving her the correct cough syrup prescription upon discharge was not so great.

Once again we run into another issue where the hospital just wants to charge the insurance. My wife was admitted over night because the ER was unable to perform a spinal tap to check for meningitis and needed an ultrasound machine to do it properly but apparently they don't have one in the ER. After staying over night the Dr tells my wife they are not going to do the spinal tap because the blood work doesn't show an infection but they want to do an x-ray before discharging to check for "something", there were not clear on why. Then all of a sudden my wife is told she's staying another night for observation which was unnecessary and simply a money grab. And now, an hour after the Dr comes in and says they are going to discharge her we are told it's going to another 2 - 3 hours before the paperwork is done, this is gigantic b.s!!!! During this time period they brought food which is another charge to the insurance, this is one of the biggest insurance scamming hospitals I've ever been to.

Now the bad:
My wife came in for bleeding and since she has had a full a hysterectomy she shouldn't have been. The PA that saw her in the er was unable to see where it was coming from and then proceeded to tell my wife there was no internal bleeding even though it was dripping out of her. She used the restroom in the er and while sitting filled the toilet with blood so she called the nurse in to see it and then asked to see an actual Dr to see if the Dr could find the source of the bleeding since the PA could not. 5 minutes later the PA walked in discharging wife and telling her to go home and rest. My wife went from the Gilbert Mercy straight to Banner Gateway where not only did they find the source (internal cut) but they also considered a blood transfusion due to the amount of blood my wife had lost while Gilbert Mercy proved scarily ineffective because they could see the severe bleeding but didn't care to find out why. Bottom line, if you think you need a second opinion after treatment at this er go seek it out.

Also, since this hospital doesn't have any real employers and they are all contact (including labs) they all get to charge the insurance as out of network so you'll have to argue and fight with your insurance to get any stay or treatment covered.

The quality of care is really hit or miss here with some being very caring not only with health but home life and others seem only to care about what they can charge the insurance company.

We are currently in the ER. We've been here for 7 hours. So far, we were told they are admitting my husband for a possible stroke. They've done a CT scan and blood work, but no ones told us the results. I asked to speak to the dr who spent all of three minutes with us. We've had three nurses, but I couldn't tell you their names just that the room white board still says Kelly from the day shift. When I asked how much longer for a room, I was told that they are "looking" for one. I've had to ask them to disconnect his IV because it was backing up with blood, told them his oxygen sats were too low and could they give him oxygen, asked for medication that was ordered but never administered. The last nurse came in and said that the dispenser for one of the drugs ordered is out. The other drug, heparin, is also on "order". When I asked if they did an INR to determine if he needs heparin (he takes warfarin and took his meds this morning), she said they "probably" would check it first!!! Seriously!!! They let a student practice putting in his IV. This is the worst hospital I've ever been in. Do not come here!! Tomorrow I will be calling my his doctor and ask to be transferred. It's ridiculous that I know more than the "professionals" here. Ok update. Dr finally came to see me...OOPS the dr who left should have talked to us before he left!!! My husbands INR is 1.5!!!! That's dangerously thick and would cause a stroke. They've known that since 8pm. So he should have had the meds THEN! We were told that heparin was ordered but OOPS they forgot to give it to him. Seriously?! Can you say malpractice? Do not come to this hospital.

I read the reviews on this place before going and have to disagree with some of them. Now I haven't dealt with billing so my review is based solely on my experience. I had to bring my daughter there on Sunday March 8th. Due to stomach flu she had been unable to keep any fluids down including water. We arrived at 10:00 a.m. to the emergency room and were able to speak with the lady behind the counter right away and get situated. Within 3 minutes we were in the back getting my daughter's vitals taken. The nurse who was taking my daughter's vitals was amazing and made her feel completely at ease, he then took us to a bed in the ER where everyone else nurses and doctors were very attentive to what was going on. We spent a total of 3 hours there where they were able to get my daughter the fluids she needed, and discharge us all the while with her never once feeling scared or intimidated. Hopefully we never need to but if it does arise we will most likely come back here.

Awful customer service and yes, we are customers. My mom waits 2 hours for help using the bathroom and she's ignored when she's in pain constantly. They are easily the least professional hospital we have seen. Do everything you can to avoid Dignity Health's Mercy hospital. No one wants to be sick or injured but an entire staff that doesn't work to comfort you makes it far worse.

Gilbert Mercy is the best hospital by far for their care that is immediate, caring and top notch. Couldnt have asked for better treatment when I was taken there for inability to speak. Sudden onset had everyone on their toes to help me immediately. Courtesy, professionalism and doctors that were so brilliant it made me know that I will never go anywhere else.

I absolutely love this hospital! I had both of my children at Mercy Gilbert and my experience was excellent. I was always treated well by the nurses many where very compassionate and on top of things. The room was very comfortable and spacious I was able to have my family and visitors fit comfortably.Even the food was great! I would recommend Mercy Gilbert to anyone. It does cost a little more than the Banner chain hospitals according to friends but well worth it. Not quite a Mayo but I also loved the upscale feel and it was very easy to get a priest to bless the pregnancy before I had my c-section surgery.

I thought I paid every cent but now I'm getting I still owe more money for God knows what. Iv asked to talked to a manager about it and they say they are not available they will give me a call back. The collection company is their company but still cant give me an answer as to why I have another bill. Remember to keep all your receipts people. Even with receipts and confirmation # they still find a way to screw you!

The only problem I seen is the staff has these old out dated cell phone and the don't supply staff members with writing material(pens!)
AS far as the food bring your family to eat here, tell your friends, you don't have to be visiting someone or a patient, but the cafeteria food is excellent 20 Stars and the prices are very very reasonable!

Scheduled for 0730 knee surgery today. Had to be cancelled due to a blood issue. The staff that were prepping me were fantastic. Lori & Anita, "the fun nurses"! Thank you for making it a pleasant experience. I think they were more upset than I was when the surgery was cancelled for today. Hopefully they will help me again when I get to reschedule! What a great experience!

I have had the worst experience with this hospital ever. I have no words for how horrible upper management is. Social Media is powerful and I will be urging all of my followers and friends on all of my platforms to boycott this hospital. I want everyone who has had a bad experience at this hospital to speak up. Just because there is a pandemic doesn t mean we have to accept any level of care. #HospitalHorror

Spouse received a TKA revision on Tuesday, and was forced to discharge the very next day Not anywhere ready, but unrelenting staff pressure to go home. The reason for the forceout ? She had the unmittigated gall to complain about what she felt was very poor care. After her complaints, the facility's reaction , was, in effect : " Get Out !" I would not bring my dog to this hospial for care.

The labor, delivery, and recovery teams were AMAZING. All nurses were very hands-on and went the extra mile. I had a full-labor, episiotomy, and emergency c-section and I m over 6 feet tall, they could see that I was uncomfortable in my bed so they helped get a longer one! Everyone worked as a team and made our stressful experience more bearable. Thank you all!!!!

Avoid the ER here. It is worth driving probably even to Tucson as the wait times rival sitting at a closed facility.

The wait times in the ER are ridiculous. "don't eat in case they need to remove the appendix" but 3 hours later everyone that was in before you AND came in an hour after have already been called back. 3 hours since my vitals were taken (12 hours since my last meal) and still here watching people go past me.

I had shoulder replacement surgery at Mercy Gilber...

I had shoulder replacement surgery at Mercy Gilbert, my first hospitalization there. I knew I had an outstanding surgeon, PA, and anesthesia team because they are known to my family and I have previously been treated by the surgeon and PA. Clearly, this was the right hospital for this surgery! I am a retired hospital company CEO and because of familiarity with hospital systems and culture have high expectations for service, efficiency, and collaboration that distinguish excellent hospitals. My experience is that MGMC is an excellent hospital! I was impressed with the consistent friendliness, efficiency. and engagement of every staff member including nursing, all OR services, environmental service, OT, PT, lab, food service and admissions staff...EVERYONE with whom I had contact. The hospitalist internal medicine physician was thorough in his assessment, well-verse in my specific history and needs, a super communicator, and collaborative in treatment options...and equally personable and engaging. Explanations, responsiveness to my queries and changing needs were exact and timely, and nursing staff went overboard in making sure all written instructions upon discharge actually exceeded what was required to be certain I didn t miss a beat. I have told my family and friends that I have absolute confidence in MGMC and, based on my experience, they will be well-served there if they have a future hospital need.

I was at the ER at mercy on Friday evening. I eventually found out that my issue was Diverticulitis.
I was in a ton of pain when I got there. The only thing that Mercy did right was getting me a bag to throw up into. There was one other person in the ER when I arrived. This lady I believe has gotten pure chlorine in her eye and it was obviously burning and painful. The little greeter at the front door appeared to have two jobs, 1st and obviously most important was to be sure that no one had family checking on them, 2nd was to tell the patients that there was no way to determine how long one might have to wait with chemicals burning her eyes out and to prove that he did not care at all. I don t know how severe pure chlorine is to someone s vision, I assume it s pretty bad. Probably a good idea to flush with water ASAP. Mercy didn t appear to share this same idea as this lady was scolded for asking how long she should wait and told there was no way to know. She left and I hope the best for her.
I eventually left as well. While it seemed that the wait should be short as there was one other person in the waiting room, (no, not the lady that was to have her eyes burned out by chemicals, she was already gone). I left because I had too much pain to wait.
Mercy seems to spend a lot on advertising but won t spend on doctors and nurses. This may be wrong, maybe they had enough. Maybe there were 100 s of patients in the ER prior to me showing up at 8:00 pm. And maybe all of these people walked to the ER as the parking lot was empty.
Maybe a good idea to staff up a little with additional nurses to do things like flushing people s eyes, maybe getting a child in a bed that has a broken leg.
This visit showed me how poorly a hospital can treat people.

Went to ER for palpitations, had to take off my beloved and treasured necklace, Set it down on the rolling table... unfortunately I didn t realize that it was gone until I had left the facility; called a few hours later and was told no one found it. Called SEVERAL more times with the same response, left a message for patient advocate and never even received a call back. Shameful.

I gave birth during this pandemic. The reason for ...

I gave birth during this pandemic. The reason for the 2 star rating is because my amazing doctor and the nurse who delivered me - the only 2 who provided exceptional care. I will preface that the Family Birthing Center here comes highly praised so we did expect decent care. As much as I hate to complain about our first line workers right now but all of the other nurses on shift that night were pretty lousy. Being a first time mom, laboring during a pandemic, a little more compassion from the nurse staff was really needed. I was induced and the first set of nurses I had were just okay. The second nurse I had was the best she is also who helped deliver me. I wish I could recall her name but if it wasn't for her my birthing experiencing would of been much worse. My husband and I are pretty easy going people, which can be our downfall as we don't always use our voices as we should but we hate to come off as burdens to others. Our story starts after delivery a L&D nurse complained that I wasn't correctly on the waterproof matt and had an attitude about it (we overlooked it and let it go) once I was admitted to the postpartum room my nurse that night was just awful. She was chaotic, stressed, non attentive and zero compassion. She didn't take my IV out till 5-6 hours later after labor (even though I had already gone to the bathroom twice as required and requested it to be removed so I could rest) we also needed help with our new baby, as first time parents, we welcomed all help with proper diaper changing, feeding, swaddling. Our nurse did not help us with this until several hours after labor. She would come to our room only to complain that she had all first time mom's on her shift and that she needed to pee but couldn't. Again, we just needed help so we could rest. Then the worst part came, she finally was helping us properly change our daughter and as she had her diaper off our baby pooped (pretty expected to happen) and the nurse freaked out because some poop got on her hands. Again, this is expected and I wouldn't think as a L&D nurse this would be a dramatic scene as she made it to be. She frantically called in another nurse and acted as if what our baby did was so disturbung. This was just the tipping point. I wish I had her name but certian its in my file. All I can recall of her is she has prior experience working in the ER in Los Angelos. Needless to say, to a very tired mama with a brand new baby, not only were my birth plans changed due to COVID (understandably) but my experience with the L&D nursing staff was very unpleasant. My husband and I followed all the rules in place with COVID, we didn't complain and hardly asked for much. We were truly simple to care for yet we did not get that reciprocation from the majority of the nurses during our 48hr stay. My hope is they remember why they chose this profession and remember that delivering mama's especially, are very vulnerable in the L&D dept.

I have unfortunately had to be hospitalized there more than once, I have had major surgery there a lumpectomy about seven years ago which ended up being lymphoma cancer fortunately the operation was a success and my follow-up was even better I am still here today to write this review. In late 2017, i was told by a different hospital and their professionals, which they called doctors, that I would not live past the next two or three months that was October 2017. Of course they fly a different (" Banner "), but less not mention any other Hospitals name. Then I was discharged, good luck, and goodbye is what I was told, with no follow-up, no medication, no portable defibrillator, no anything, just that I had congestive heart failure and i was operating on less than 10 to 15%. Wow, so after discharge I decided to take myself to Mercy Gilbert again, thank God that i did and I am still here today one year and 4 months later and still feeling healthy and fine. The staff was very soothing and comfortable and carrying they made you like everything was going to be okay, just as it was and I AM still is. I personally will not go to any other the hospital in this area other than Mercy Gilbert it is a wonderful wonderful Hospital their personal and professional staff are friendly helpful and courteous and with all intent and purpose, they definitely do care about your recovery and comfort. WAY TO GO, MERCY GILBERT, GREAT JOB. I would and I do recommend Mercy Gilbert Hospital to everyone I meet, that needs medical attention and I will continue to do so. THANK YOU FOR ALL, THAT YOU DO FOR YOUR PATIENTS.

This is not the care or concern for a swollen Appendix anyone would expect, he also has blood in his urine, I pray they do what they are supposed to before it bursts

Professional and caring atmosphere.....at night. The day shift staff literally are incompetent and rude. My friend was admitted to the hospital for 2days and she fled the second she could walk! I was received into the emergency room on jan 23 with high blood pressure and atrial fib. the attendants stabilized my condition and found me a spot in the cath lab for an angiogram. the physician dr. markabawi performed the angiogram and called a surgeon to confer with him that the best course was a triple bypass not more angioplastys . the selfless acts of these two doctors made it possible for me to make a proper decision regarding my health. all of the emergency room staff were efficient and provided me with the life saving care i so needed. i am alive and recovering today because of their attention to my peril.

The thought of Mercy Gilbert being a Catholic Hospital that is receiving tax exemptions from the public and can not come to an agreement with AETNA health insurance, is a conflict of interest. I am Catholic and have AETNA as my insurer. Mercy is forcing me to go to another facility for medical care because they can not agree on financial terms. To turn away the afflicted and persons in need of help is not what being Christian is about. Is Mercy Gilbert in it for the money, or the public you serve? Shame on Mercy Gilbert for not choosing life over money.

I am not a big review writer but my knowledge of w...

I am not a big review writer but my knowledge of what makes quality medical care and what my family experienced at Mercy requires this warning.
Mercy appears to be mostly focussed on Revenue generation. The staff is nice but they have confused that with what should be their first priority of offering quality medical care. I found that the hospital keeps patients longer than what is medically necessary. This is good for revenue generation but not for the patient who is only getting weak by laying in a bed and who exposed to other illnesses. Next, I find that their doctors can order tests that they are not trained to interpret the results. This could lead to inaccurate diagnosis. My last point is many of the doctors are not board certified. This means that they have not passed the basic competency test for their field of medicine.
There are others issues at work here but I will leave with the suggestion that the winners at Mercy are the administrators that focus on revenue and inexpensive employees and equipment to give themselves outsized bonuses.
Follow up 9/26
After asking several questions of the hospital staff I realized my family member was not being cared for properly. I did call Mercy's Service Excellence Manager as well as her boss in San Francisco. The manager returned my call but did not follow up and her boss never returned my call. My conclusion was that my family member was getting the came inadequate care that is offered to all of Mercy's patients who entrust their health to the hospital.

The hospital itself was okay. Their billing depart...

The hospital itself was okay. Their billing department is a nightmare. I was there in person and made 2 payments. Then I made a credit card payment over the phone. This phone payment was made to the hospital. A billing employee took my credit number over the phone and told me my bill was paid in full. Then I start receiving calls from Blue CrossBlue Shield collection services asking for the money I had paid the hospital. They stated that I should have never paid the hospital as they were the hospital s collections service. I have called 47 times to try and get this straightened out. I have sent them copies of my statements showing the payments. An employee at both places confirmed the payments were received and also that the payments should have been taken by the hospital. But then the copies of the statements disappeared. One rep from BCBS even told me that the hospital was going to refund me the over payments so that I could ay BCBS. But for some reason the first two reps I spoke to are no longer available. Both Judy and Denzel seemed like they were getting somewhere in this investigation, but then I was told that they are no longer available and guess what, their back office manager wants me to resend proof of my payments again because they can t find them otherwise my account is going to collections. So I called Mercy Hospital for assistance, the rep there says that she does not show that I have a balance. I explained again what my situation was and they tell me oh, you ll have to call BCBS to get that straightened out. I asked if they could do a conference call so that the could tell BCBS that I didn t owe Mercy Gilbert Hospital anything and she said no, we are not allowed to do that. I called BCBS collection services again and asked them if they were collecting for services I had done at Mercy Gilbert Hospital and they said yes. I have only been there once. So then I asked if they could do a conference all with the hospital so that we could all be on the same page. Of course not!!! Ugh!! BCBS Collection Services stated that Mercy Gilbert Hospital Gad done a refund on my card for one of the payments. I pull the statements and go back to February, there are no refunds on my account.

Please be very careful if you go to Mercy Gilbert Hospital, they care about collecting money and will go as far as sending you to collections to try to get more money from you, even when you don t owe them any. They do not care about customer service one iota! Beware! Usually a collection agency and the entity they are collecting for, communicate with each other, however Mercy Gilbert Hospital can t do that... they just don t give a care. I have been struggling with this since March! It s September now... and 47 calls later....

I am here now in a room as I write this review, the service here horrible as I have been here 4 Days now & have not got no answers!!!!
A matter of fact them knowing my condition & what needs to be addressed been here 4 days & have not been addressed once.
I would also like to mention I documented everything!!!!

I m the patient & I started feeling even more Sick come to find out the rude nurse forgot to hook me back up to my antibiotics for hours & having the infection I have could be life threatening. The nurse here his excuse was & I have witnesses proof as my family was here & in complete shock his excuse was I got busy I forgot (Wow)
The only reason the nurse new I was unhooked is because someone walked by & heard me document the situation at hand!
Maryann Bowersox will be hearing from me personally about the quality of some of her staff!

I would just like to say myself as being in the healthcare field for so long my self. I am very, Very disappointed
If I happen to make it out of here in one piece which I don t see unfortunately, hopefully they get it together.

The emergency room etiquette is horrible here. Common manners are not in place with the Doctors or nursing staff. The Doctor, or I am assuming he was a Doctor,I wouldn't know since he did not introduce himself, walked in asked a few questions didn't even touch me and walked out. I have no idea who was a nurse, CNA, Dr or janitor. This is horrible!! At least introduce yourself if your the Doctor. Never again will I go here. I cannot believe this. Then there is the process to take me in a small room from the waiting room, to then send me in a confined area with everybody coughing, I have a concussion, and this poor lady next to me has a feeding tube exposed to all those germs. One girl in so much pain she had to go lay in her car to wait. This is horrible. I think county Doctors are more polite and have better manners than here and they are under more stress. Horrible.

I checked myself in to this hospitals ER because of severe food poisoning and waited in the ER waiting room for almost two hours. I ended up leaving without even having my vitals checked because of how busy they were. Which is not a my problem with them at all..

Fast forward a year and a half later I was contacted by a collections agency who purchased a debt of a few hundred dollars in my name from chandler regional hospital. I called and attempted to speak to a manager about this situation but they would only transfer me to their billing department and the person was not helpful at all. according to her they couldn t do anything because they no longer owned my debt. A debt that didn t even make sense for me to have because I have insurance!
The charges that they billed me for were not even any where near what I was there for. According to her information I was treated for chest pains that day and had a few tests ran on me. NOT TRUE!
She told me that I needed to find out who the front desk clerks were that day myself in order for them to help me.. what kind of hospital does this?! They took my information from the new patient packet I filled and racked up phony charges is what they did! I ended up having a mark on my credit score for months while I fixed this issue! DO NOT COME HERE!!!

I never write reviews, but I have to after the phenomenal care I received from the MGMC staff. I came here with my girlfriend to the ER 4 years ago and vowed never to go back after that experience. Turns out they truly do treat women differently than men in the ER....

I had to have emergency surgery and I wanted to express my sincere gratitude to Deana working the front desk on 7/20/20 at 1030 pm, Mia working the observation room that same night, and Alejandro (Alex) who took care of me the next day 7/21/20. I was never want for anything, and my needs were met with sincere care and empathy. My girlfriend was not able to stay with me or visit due to safety precautions, but they updated her often, and made sure she was able to see me before admittance. They also helped her deliver some heavier blankets to me in my room! It was nice to have something from home. She praised them for their COVID procedures and advised they take temps of everyone and require masks and she said there were many hand sanitizer stations. She said staff walking to another area would stop and help guests in the surgery waiting area even though they looked busy.

During COVID it seems that no one is happy anymore. Nobody cares to spread kindness. That sentiment did not exist at this hospital. I am blown away with the level of care from EXHAUSTED nursing staff and doctors. I hope that Deana, Mia, and Alex see this somehow, so they know how grateful I am for the wonderful treatment I received all throughout this emergency surgery. Wow. Thank you. I hope society can pay you back for your work someday.

First off I'd like to say my wife and I had a fantastic experience with the Labor and Deliveries team at this hospital, they were able to answer questions and help in any way they could and were available and sharp at the blink of an eye when our new family needed them most.

Unfortunately the ER and fourth floor full of general nurses that seem almost clueless are ruining this review. 28 hours after discharge from L&D I had to bring my wife back to the ER because of worsening swelling that came on very quickly, high blood pressure, as well as an abdomen pain. My wife was required to take a COVID test before birth and tested negative yet while in the ER they placed her in a cardboard box with a bounce house fan for ventilation that was setup for covid patients when there were clearly normal rooms available. They refused her food or water without explanation and when she requested post partum care items she was told she could not get them because she was not admitted. For 12 hours my breast feeding wife was trapped dehydraying and in pain before they put her on an IV drip. They quickly after arrival found her gallbladder to be an issue and merely told her there was fluid and inflammation around it and it needed to be removed. NO ADDRESS TO THE SWELLING OR BLOODPRESSURE. We found out later from her OB that did a very thorough job before making her rounds to her that the "inflammation" was her gallbladder was twice as thick is it should be, but this was not explained previously. We waited, doubting them for an entire day, before getting this answer. After repeatedly asking for post partum care items they could not provide the items that she REQUIRED. I had to call the hospital from home and speak to the L&D nurses to request help for her because she was helpless. The ER also FAILED to notify her OB/GYN immediately after her being admitted, it took my phone call to make that happen, that is unacceptable. Now as I write this horror story my wife is recovering from her surgery and I receive a phone call from her that her call button will not work and no nurse will come to check the 20 minutes of beeping happening in her room. She cannot get out of bed on her own and I was not allowed to return to the hospital outside of the hours of 10am-6pm(because you can only get or spread COVID19 at night or early morning?!)

I am furious at this point and will NEVER recommend this hospital or its family of hospitals to anyone for needs outside of Labor and Delivery, again, I can't say enough good things about that team of loving nurses that truly live to enjoy their jobs.

***UPDATE***

***UPDATE***
As of today I finally got my billing and payment issues resolved. Thank you to BOTH people who reached out to make it right! I appreciate that things can fall through the cracks and mistakes can be made, but when a company can make it right, it goes a long way.
Thank you again!

***ORIGINAL REVIEW***
This is a beautiful facility, the staff that assisted me last year when I had my baby was wonderful.
Even though I had great nursing Staff, after my c-section that Friday morning, I didn't have a Doctor check on me even once until on Sunday afternoon when I asked about when they were going to release me. They asked what the Doctor had said, and I told them I hadn't seen a doctor since the surgery Friday morning. The charge nurse looked completely shocked and apologized. That night a Doctor came in to check on me at almost midnight. I was released the next day.
Then the billing nightmares began. They submitted the bill for my sons care to my insurance under his name, instead of bundling with mine. Since clearly his name wasn't added yet since he was a new born, they billed me $11,000 for his care. (This number eventually went down some, but was only supposed to be a little over $900 that I was responsible for)
I called, they said they would resubmit to the insurance.
I called again, they said the insurance would have to send the information.
I called the insurance they said they had already sent the information.
I called again, they said it was the insurance that needed to fix it.
After 5 months of back and forth I finally had the insurance company conference in the billing dept, and we were on the phone for over an hour and they said it was fixed, and would reflect on the next bill.
Next bill comes and it's not fixed. I called again. They didn't know why it didn't reflect and said it would be on the next bill.
This wrong bill business went on for another 5 months! (And everytime you call it's at least a 20-30 minute hold time) FINALLY on my July bill its reflecting the correct amount.
Hallelujah, right?
WRONG, they sent 2 Bill's, both dated the same day, both for different amounts, one is correct, but now it says they are going to send me to collections unless I pay it in full.
(Also I have been making payments this whole time while they were trying to fix THEIR mistake!)
I have called and asked to talk with a supervisor to discuss payment options that I can afford, they just keep saying over and over that there isn't one available at this time. They said one could call me back, I gave them my work number so they can reach me. They keep calling my cell phone while I'm at work and can't answer. This has happened 4 times, and 4 times I have requested they call me at work.
I am BEYOND frustrated and upset. I will find another in-network hospital for anything I might need in the future. I feel like they don't care at all that I am willing and able to pay them, but still have a family to feed.
Worst billing dept I have EVER dealt with.

OB unreliable as a planned hospital for labor/deli...

OB unreliable as a planned hospital for labor/delivery if something out of the ordinary happens. Unable to get us in for MEDICAL induction (not elective) after on waiting list for over 54 hours and now having to go to different hospital at last minute for health of baby, adding to stress of the event.

Now learning their OB has been overwhelmed for last month for these inductions with many others forced to do the same late hospital switch. Might have a good reputation for delivery but doesn t matter if you can t get in! Totally UNSAT, unless you are looking for Mary and Joseph no-room-at-the-inn experience...
