Called for my medical records today. Very pleased that a person answered the phone right away, no machine. Call transferred and a very helpful lady in records dept has my records on the way. No fuss, no cost and very polite friendly and efficient. I should add that in 1991 I had my Dr refer me to Mayo for a problem his office could not diagnose for about 4 years despite every test possible. He referred me to the WRONG dept at Mayo (Rheumatology) but the Dr I saw came up with a diagnosis in about 20 minutes. She also sent me over to Endocrinology where I should have gone. After a week of tests her diagnosis was confirmed, and this was not a condition most Doctors will ever see. My own PCP never would have figured it out. I admit I was skeptical at first because I had to trot all over the building in a johnny for a lot of testing and it seemed so impersonal. But it was efficient and everyone was courteous and professional . Best of all they got this extremely rare diagnosis correct the first time, prescribed some simple medications that reversed the progression of this condition. I literally began to feel much better in 2 days while driving back home. Within a few months I was 100% back to normal. This condition can be fatal if not treated, so they saved my life. Yeah, it was expensive, but I'm alive and healthy. I suggest you DO NOT go here for run of the mill medical care, Don't go without a referral and expect to be seen within minutes if you do. And don't expect you will get the best care in the world on the cheap. And check your attitude at the door.

this is the best medical attention that i have received in years and worked in hospitals in Iowa for over 20 years. Very professional and i got more info in two days than i did in 6 months in Des Moines Iowa. The Drs here in Des Moines lied to me more than once and i have the proof. I dont have all the info yet but Im sure I will have it soon. Thank you Mayo.

I went into Mayo clinic for their addiction treatment program they offered. They immediately put me on more drugs than what I was coming in there for to come off of. My addiction was way worse after their treatment then when I started there. I do not recommend this place to anyone looking for treatment for themselves or a loved one.

What's not to say about the Mayo Clinic that hasn't already been said? Perhaps, the best medical staff in the world. If you are being treated or seen at the Mayo Clinic. Rest assured your medical team will be first class in just about every metric there is.

There's a reason why Mayo is known as arguably "the best health care in the world". I just had a rewarding experience with my appointment there, and I'm thankful for the very knowledge doctors staffed there. If I have any complaint, it's that the waiting time from first communication until finally getting in there was a ridiculous 10 months!

Feeling thankful and privileged to be cared for by the impressive Mayo Clinic health system with their entire medical and oncology care team. Flew here from Hawaii to be treated for cancer. One month post op and doing well. Now gearing up for radiation treatment. The people here in Rochester, MN are friendly and caring.

BE CAREFUL. THEY WILL TAKE YOU OR YOUR LOVED ONE AND SECRETLY GET PROTECTIVE GUARDIAN SHIP BY COURT ORDER BY FALSE MEDICAL REASONS. Poor girl they kidnapped was not mentally ill at all and they used that as an excuse to keep her there. Money hungry sicko's. I smell a big lawsuit coming Mayo Clinic's way.

I don't know how they do it but this has to be one of the most on time clinics I have ever visited. Not only are they the best for med care it seems like they don't stop their and strive to be the best in all area's except for dining options. While the cafeteria has improved slightly its still not that great.

Whole experience was horrible. The front desk clerk was wanting to cancel the appointment because the check-in time was over a couple of minutes. You can feel the hate they have for their patients and the arrogance as soon as you look at the place.
I looked forward to my appointment with what was supposed to be a highly regarded specialist that was going to diagnose and treat my disease and make progress. Instead I got sent home early after being poked and prodded all day by hostile physicians, told I was fine and also basically crazy, and stuck with a five figure bill. I am convinced Mayo Clinic is all marketing on their clinical side. They might have some good research only in certain departments but this is quickly dwindling as their agendas take over. Typically if you are going to the mayo clinic you have a cryptogenic disease. Most local tertiary centers have comparable diagnostic capabilities if not better (trust me, there are a LOT of better places with better specialized programs than Mayo Clinic if you do your research).
Mayo clinic is really old fashioned in a lot or most areas. They have been there forever so in certain areas they really just don t care to try novel treatments or explore newer possibilities. This place is a sick joke. It takes a lot of the money it should be paying on property and federal taxes and dumps it into nonstop marketing and mass-media publicizing and overcharging patients along with their breadwinner doctors who spam PubMed with their "groundbreaking" research.
They put highly damaging stuff in my medical records. The doctors repeatedly refer to feelings instead of facts in medical records. The mayo doctors commit fraud, do not rely on objective evidence, and really do harm their patients any way they can on paper, especially if it looks like you re faking or exaggerating.
They engage in bullying as well. You will hear them laughing outside of your appointment room before they enter at you. Can you imagine what occurs behind closed doors? What I found in the records was horrifying. What happens when your doctor calls the Mayo to discuss YOU, off any record? Let's just say you won't be able to repair the damage done.
Drive across the US to hear you're basically sick in the head and exaggerating all of your symptoms. Holy cow and this is supposed to be the best hospital in the US? To add insult to injury defamatory material is then logged into your permanent medical record used by every major hospital in the US preventing you from receiving proper future care.

They will redo everything here to fit their own needs even if they do their tests wrong. If it boils down to them putting a brand new, completely opposite opinion on paper of any previous test you have had they WILL do this and make sure it happens to ensure their outcomes and objectives are met. This place is grossly overrated.
They whine and cry when you bring them all of your records yet they admit their fax machines won't receive half the time (because of their viral marketing) due to massive numbers of patients simultaneously faxing in their medical records for evaluations to get appointments.

I never really consider leaving a review on something as large of an institution as Mayo. What changed my mind was the commercial they've recently been advertising: the young man yelling over the top of the cliff in frustration, only to be relieved of fear, stress and anxiety as he arrives to Mayo Clinic. It put a lump in my throat-as I came to you after MONTHS of being repeatedly ignored, abused and gaslighted by local doctors. Mayo Clinic was my last hope; and why wouldn't it be? It's Mayo. I was admitted and to be fair, they did "some" testing, but not nearly to the degree or specificity that I needed. (e.g. I had burning feet/toes and they only did blood work. No nerve conduction tests or anything similar.) I had a TON of blood drawn and that was it. No one could be bothered to push the envelope and dig deeper into a potential less common cause, disease, etc. If it didn't show up on a blood test-that was it. I was released back into the faulty medical system that I fought to get out of and Mayo told me to "come back once it gets worse". I expected far more from your medical facility. To make matters worse, one a doctor now sees that you even attended Mayo in any sort, they automatically dismiss you because "If Mayo can't find it, it doesn't exist". I needed you to help me, and you left me to suffer.

Mom has been treated with nothing but kindness and competency here, and with state-of-the-art facilities. We did get a rude doctor in Neurology, but the other departments have been perfect in treating multiple conditions and sending her back home (700 miles) well.

Are the people insane who rated this place poorly? If you're really sick, who cares about the food?! or some triviality in how the "electronic porthole" works?! It's the best hospital in the world and it shows.

The docs at Mayo saved my life 20 years ago and have carefully monitored me ever since. More than once they have been alert to issues at my annual physicals that my local doctors didn t catch, probably because the locals don t review my chart as carefully or listen as well. Have I run into some lemons along the way? Once or twice, but my primary and main specialists have always been terrific and rectified those less than helpful situations. I trust Mayo with my life because they ve earned it over decades.

Great institution. It s simply amazing how they manage to treat so many patients, coordinate appointments, work hand in hand with specialized drs, and dig deeper to find the cause of your problem. Don t get me wrong, not every doctor is perfect. But most are above average. When it comes to pricing , it is also above average . Way above. If your insurance doesn t cover it, don t even walk in there. Any 30 min visit ranges from $400-900 per doctor. Plus dozens of blood exams, xrays, scans etc that may range from hundreds for a simple data point to 2k for a CT scan. At least they offer cost estimates upon request . A double jaw surgery estimated at Mayo came
out around 100k, at other institutions 40k. It s all about the experience, prestige, technology and know how. Photos show view from gonda building

Failure to follow current ethical standards in US ...

Failure to follow current ethical standards in US by medical staff. Performing actions outside of medical licensure, including physical restraint, without necessary diagnoses and orders. Malpractice, as well battery by both aids, and staff. Unable to follow legal guidelines for medical transfer of treatment within stated time limits. Medical staff is unable to consult ethical committee, and places their desire for treatment before patient/family. Healthcare is about providing care, not forcing it on someone who needs it, but does not desire it.

Mayo Clinic seems to have abandoned its motto "the needs of the patient come first", in favor of cherry picking cases. They now have review committees that look at your medical records (but only what they access via EMR) to determine *IF* they will see you. Two depts pulled this stunt when I requested an appt; Urology flat refused to see me at all (despite 2 lesions), and Gynecology refused to deal with one of my gyn problems. Mighty patient-centered...not. It's not clear who exactly decides who gets past the indifferent gatekeeper, but my bet is a panel of nurses, PAs, and other nonphysicians. It's a stain upon Mayo's previously stellar reputation, and I say that having worked there for a decade.

I have never been so disappointed in Mayo's practice model. It's the end of an era.

Horrible, terrible experience! My mom went there and received incredibly poor care from all departments. The doctor was dismissive and arrogant, and did not listen. She was not allowed to speak to the doctor who was going to perform her procedure ahead of time. The doctor had her come in for unnecessary visits and then threatened to bill her insurance until she told him that that was fraud and then he backed off. The radiology tech actually groped my mother to position the film. Do yourself a favor: find care closer to home. Mayo rides on its reputation for which there should be none.

Can t believe this place is rated one of the best medical facilities, it is one of the worst medical experiences I have heard had. I met with a Dr and had a week full of tests completed and the results posted on my patient portal on Monday. No call from the dr Monday which I can understand but I called Tuesday, called and sent a message through patient portal Wed, called Thursday and again omg n Friday with absolutely no response. I was told there is no other person that can help me and that I just have to wait. In the mean time I can see my results and see there are abnormal results but have no idea what they mean. They have no respect for their patients and clearly do not take the health of their patients seriously. I am very ill and need a Dr who cares about their patients.

Fairly unhelpful billing staff that can't explain billing practices (or sometimes even take payments) alongside general disorder with IT upgrades that leave old account information and health info missing. With all this chaos, why am I paying a huge premium compared to other hospitals that provide the same level of care? Unless you've got something really rare, don't bother going here; even the top doctors at this place are undermined by poor administration.

Absolutely world class care. The doctors don't stop until they find you answers. There is no such thing as a rule out diagnosis, you know? The kind of diagnosis that some doctors give because "well you don't have this so the only thing left is this, but there's no way to prove you actually have that."
Everyone there, from the doctors to the nurses, and the hospitality workers; everyone there made you feel cared for, that you mattered.

Because of my stay at Mayo Clinic I got the right treatment and I have been slowly healing. I wouldn't be where I am today if it wasn't for their tireless work and dedication to me.

Well worth the trip.

The first picture of me was when I was in my local hospital, paralyzed and suffering from seizures. The second picture was taken a month ago at my gym, after a 2 hour long strength training session. The difference a year makes.

Thank You Mayo.

If you aren't getting answers and are contemplatin...

If you aren't getting answers and are contemplating going to Mayo, please go. They accept most insurance in my experience (I work in the industry) and are very accessible.

This place saved my husband's life and changed our future forever. They gave us hope when we had none. I will be indebted to them forever. I would not recommend going anywhere but Mayo Clinic. The doctor's that we deal with there have come to be like family.

We came here for a second opinion on a brain tumor. The first hospital we went to told us that they were unable to safely operate due to the location. They basically gave us a prognosis and sent us home to play the waiting game. We left feeling so lost and scared of the unknown.

The doctor's at Mayo explained to us why they were confident they could operate, and what the benefits of doing so were. They also thoroughly explained all of the risks.

This is a hospital like no other. They take all of the time needed to answer the questions that you have. They treat you like an individual and make you feel special.

They have specific facilities for pretty much any disease or condition you may have. For example, the cancer center has a multitude of information on all the different types of cancer out there. They also have some free items and classes that you can often take advantage of.

All of the staff we have dealt with are great. It doesn't even feel like a hospital, it's a completely different atmosphere. The Clinic itself is beautiful with lots of artwork and outdoor sitting areas.

The hospital has many amenities. They have sleeping rooms so you can rest between appointments, cafeterias and multiple places for shopping. If you forget to bring something don't worry you'll be able to purchase it at Mayo.

They also have an excellent online portal. You can pretty much pull up any test, note or Imaging that you have had done here.

If you are not pleased with what your local doctor or current practioner is telling you, please visit Mayo Clinic for a second opinion. They have given my husband and I our future back.

Words cannot describe how much we love he Mayo, and how grateful we are to their lifesaving care.

I grew up surrounded by hospital, my parents were in the medical field. I can honestly say that no hospital has ever treated my family kinder than the Mayo.

Not only are they kind but their quality of care is unmatched. Their efficiency is a marvel. All of our appointments are scheduled and coordinated together. It is beyond impressive.

Every doctor we visited around the country gave a dire prognosis for my wife. I won t go into details here, but suffice it so say that after her treatments here there are no residual issues. Where everyone else said she may die, or be paralyzed, the Mayo left her at 100%. We are forever grateful.

Went to the Mayo for an Executive Physical. Overall it was beneficial, but the follow-up was terrible. Could not get anyone on the phone for weeks. Then they had their notes wrong in terms of what I was suppose to do, quoted me one figure for a test and charged me a higher figure for the test. Maybe they have grown to big and the doctors have a hard time keeping up. On the plus side you do get a nice sandwich in the lounge.

My mother is seeing a doctor in the breast center as well as a doctor in medical oncology. The care she is receiving from these doctors is top notch. I am very impressed with the care and expertise of this medical team. My only complaint with Mayo is the way they do their scheduling for appointments. They do not set up the appointments while you are there and make appointments that would work with your schedule. They set them up and mail them to you and you are expected to come when they schedule it. I have never seen a health care organization do appointments in this manner. Maybe I don't understand why they do it this way but it would be way better for them to help you find an appointment that would would work best for you. Also it would be good if you have to see more than one provider to be able to schedule them on the same day. When people have to travel a distance to get there it makes it hard to have to come back multiple days for different appointments. This is the one thing I could recommend for an area of improvement. I am very happy with the qualified staff I have seen so far.
