My 80+ mother was admitted for one week and received exceptional care. Comfort (an absolute blessing), Abishola, Taewo et al had an abundance of patience, utmost respect and compassion. The staff did their very best to provide a calm, communicative, and safe environment. Every service, from meals on down, took into account my mother's individual preferences (within reason) and diversity. We felt at ease and involved, readily commenting, asking questions and voicing concerns. They ran the gamut of tests, kept us apprised and gave my siblings and I peace of mind knowing mom was receiving medical resources and care of the highest quality. The desired healthcare outcome was achieved. Mom was ultimately released, feeling better and with detailed instructions going forward. Effective, safe, timely and efficient. What more does a patient require? Bravo and bless all of you!

Horrendous c wing pickup/drop-off area design. Paths are so narrow one stopped car causes a complete deadlock. Time to raze the parking lot opposite the entrance and make a pedestrian friendly and somewhat usable pickup/drop-off area methinks

There is no one enforcing the no smoking bylaw and consequently there are many smoking around entrances.

Short wait time for day surgery. Fantastic staff, very helpful. Everything is checked atleast twice to make sure there is nothing missed. Every one is friendly and introduces themselves. Thanks for making my (short) visit very positive. Special thanks to Marsha, Winnie and all the nurses (sorry don't remember all your names), also thank you to Dr. Sowerby, Sergei and the entire operating room staff for making me comfortable before and after the operation. I really can't think of any complaints, simply excellent.

Had a great stay during labor time. Nurses and doctors were just awesome especially dr. Vishal Bedi and dr. Grynn . But some of the nurses in NICU should be kicked out for their rude manners. Otherwise all other staff deserve gratitude.

One of the worst experience to be honest. Short on staff, very chaotic, not enough waiting area for the patients themselves, forget about visitors. Also, very little privacy and it is so embarrassing to share your condition and be administered in front of everyone watching. I have visited this place three times (couple of times with my son and once with my nephew) and each time it was a horrible experience having to wait for more than 6-7 hours. I felt so sad looking at the little ones having to wait for the same amount of time as well. Please take this feedback very seriously and I request and urge you to think about establishing a separate emergency unit for infants and toddlers at the very least. The experience has been so harrowing that each time I am advised to visit Mackenzie Health Emergency Care I dread coming here and almost do not want to come. I hope other than receiving a "THANK YOU FOR YOUR FEEDBACK" note, the management will seriously do something about improving the effectiveness and the efficiency of this hospital's emergency care dept.

Besides 5 hours waiting time, I was given a wristband with someone else s name, which was luckily caught by a nurse before any test were done, then the next day I got a call asking why I was late for an appointment I was not supposed to have and then I got a prescription for antibiotics for infection I didn t have.
Now I m sitting in the waiting area waiting for the right appointment, but because nobody told me I was supposed to register in a special registration area, it looks like I missed an appointment (I was sitting in a waiting area with no one else). Now the registration directed me to the waiting room full of people. So besides not caring about patients the hospital doesn t even care about using the resources and staff productively.
This level of care is below all standards!!!

Horrible, disappointing ,disgusting are some words to describe this hospital. Called an ambulance for an emergency situation thinking that would be considered as urgent waited 13 hours. people are treated as numbers staff is over worked and can keep up. What happened to health care?????? That's the only think Canada is known for around the world but it's a lie if you don't believe that just pay a visit to this emergency room. Please drive your kids and love ones anywhere but to this hell hole.

If I could give this hospital 0 stars I would. Worst nurses who don't even put all the patients on the system and have them waiting countless hours with out any updates. When you try to ask them anything, they ignore you and just tell you how you are basically not important and you don't matter.

Try to go anywhere but here if you actually care about your health.

Wait time: +8 hours

DON'T NOT GO HERE.

Does anyone find the recent donation from Muzzo family & naming a wing after them in poor taste ?
After wiping out a young family they try to appease their conscience by donating millions & get a wing named after the family
What a slap in the face for the parent that lost all their children at the hands of Muzzo

My wife has been in the hospital for 7 weeks now with a variety of issues. The care she has received has been excellent - there is a strong culture among the front line staff of treating the patient as a human and doing the right thing in the circumstances. This is a hospital that did not have a good reputation in the past - but things have greatly improved. All it needs now is more parking.

EXTREMELY MAD AT THE DOCTORS AT THIS HOSPITAL TOO PRIDEFUL TO ACTUALLY LISTEN TO CONCERNS. My family member came to this hospital with a broke foot the doctors put on a cast telling them it was broken in one place, to which the doctor then took off the cast 6 DAYS LATER. Our family member was in so much pain and when we asked "shouldn t they keep it on longer?" we were ignored and was told to wear a boot like cast instead. We then went to another hospital 2 months later, since they were still in pain and were told that the doctors at this hospital were wrong and it was actually broken in TWO PLACES. Our family member now has to go back in a full cast and isn t allow to take it off or put their foot on the ground for 4 MORE WEEKS.

Had an appointment today for an Ultrasound. Service was quick and excellent. Especially if you are on a full bladder you definitely want to go in on time. Was also amazed by the sign up process for registration and particularly for obtaining online the results.

Stay away from this place. Avoid and try other hospitals in a city, especially in case of emergency. Those people are insured to kill. Absolutely irresponsible doctors. Overworked nurses. I spent 10 hours there and after that left to get help in different hospital.

AVOID THIS PLACE

AVOID THIS PLACE

Just left. If you love yourself or anyone for that matter, avoid this "hospital". I walk in with tremendous pain. I was given a shot, fainted due to the shot and still in pain after coming to. My issue was diagnosed and I was told to rest.

I have been at rest for weeks and was still sent home in pain with no remedy.

Go to North York General instead. Mackenzie Health isn't a hospital. The doctors don't care. They just want you out so they can have an easy day.

I can assure you that I have experienced long wait time in various sections of the health system. I have heard many "patients" describe the long wait times etc. as being deplorable. What is really deplorable is what happens in other parts of the world when it comes to health care. Take that "long" wait time and thank goodness you are where you are and think about the millions of people who need desperate health care and don't get it. They would be very happy to trade places with you.

My visit to Mackenzie Health Hospital have been plansant, staff and volunteers were very friendly and pleasant. Some staff just there to do their job, while some do it with caring and empathy.Special mention of 3rd nurse Jing Jing who was very caring to gave me clean towel and gown to change and make my bed more comfortable. She called volunteer on my day of discharged, volunteer Jack was incredible to help me in wheelchair, he was very friendly and cheerful, made me laugh and made my day. He truly made a different and will always remember he gesture of kindness meant a lot to patients.

I spent 2 weeks here in April. I had doctor Dunn and she was an excellent doctor who helped me in my time of need. My rating is for the nurses some of the nurses were very rude and made my visit a nightmare. They would get very angry if I would ask for anything. My kidneys failed and I had severe muscle damage in my back which was very painful and I couldnt move or walk or even lie down in peace. Nurses there were very angry and hated there jobs and would take it out on the patients. Both doctors I saw there were very nice and had all information I required. I'm happy that I got better I just wished the nurses treated people like human beings and not like trash

Dr vito at the emergency was very unprofessional and lacked understanding. I will not be returning to this hospital again since the doctors clearly don t understand the family situation involving someone who has mental health issues at home. My dad and I brought my sibling there who tends to act okay in front of others, but he has been diagnosed with certain mental health issues and refuses to take his medication for years. Upon telling the doctor this information and our plan to get him the help he needs through the court, he makes a comment that we shouldnt do that since my sibling might not like us very much. We waited hours hoping the doctor might speak to him or advise us on what we should do as this problem has been going on for years, and he does nothing but criticize us. No understanding whatsoever, total waste of our time.

Sloppy. If you can avoid going to this hospital do it. There aren't enough doctor's. Seems like nobody wants to work in canada because the pay the taxes suck. At the end of the day doctor's who worked hard and earned their stripes fly south and work in the states where they make real money. This hospital is a constant reminder of this reality. No it isn't health cuts. We all pay enough in taxes and we haven't seen a return on this forced payment through healthcare. People will tout oour healthcare system. I somewhat agree it is good and better than nothing. But the service is glacial and there is .o incentive for educated talent to work here for low pay. We need to lower taxes to incentivize highly educated talent to grow their careers here.

First time ever to this hospital in emergency, it s about 20minutes after I register myself at Triage and I been well received by every staff so far I dealt. They all very quick , professional and ready to move you to next level of medical help , waiting my ECG report and to see doctor as last nurse told me will happen in next 15 minutes . Way things moving here I am very much sure that it will happen in same time frame nurse have told . I will after I walk out after complete check up and reports but so far considering so far experience I would say it s much better and quicker here than your family doctor office

Rude & disrespectful staff specially right at the triage (pregnant lady) & registration section as well.. so even though you are in pain they make u more frustrated & upset... I hope they train there staff how to behave with patients & people along with the patients.

I mean yeah it's an Ontario hospital but they took care of me and the nurses were super chill...emergency room was overcrowded A/F with people who's kids had runny noses but that wasn't the hospitals fault I guess...

The staff were very pleasant, knowledgeable and professional. The facility was clean, but the chairs in the waiting area were not comfortable. The only major issue though was the preregistration which registered patients for our follow up appointment the next day, not our surgical appointment, then the following day none of us were in the system to preregister for our follow up appointment. Parking for 1 hour was also very expensive.

My mother had an emergency visit here last week, unfortunately, and the experience couldn't have been more Amazing! Not only was she treated incredibly well and professionally, but the assessment forms and processes were very thorough and organized. A massive Thank You to the incredible team that operates this hospital! Obviously the CEO, Executive Leadership Team and all the Doctors, Nurses and staff are making Great things happen, as they should be! On behalf of my Mother and our Family... Thank You Again!!

I can't tell if the staff is incompetent or simply just don't care about their patients. My father had asked for water, when I came back the NEXT day they still hadn't gotten him water! I then went around looking for the fountain and found one which was broken - when asking where there was another the girl at the counter said there isn't. I asked how that can be... What do you do when your patients are thirsty and she just raised her shoulders (indicating nothing/ don't know). I then searched around in another unit and had to find the water myself. This is just a glimpse of what kind of service you receive here.

I'm giving 3 stars only because some of the doctors are actually good and there are those "unicorn" nurses (can count on a single hand) which are actually genuinely kind and helpful. All other services are below subpar.

Absolutely horrible, I came here because i heard MH is the place for mental health. I was given cold treatment and was not prescribed anything, sleep nothing even when I told them I havent slept in weeks due to medication. what I asked for was very specific because I was soeically told by a psychiatrist to specially ask for it after I come off the side effects and withdrawals Southlake gave me. If I could give zero stars I would, not worth it go to Toronto

Recently my father was admitted to Mackenzie Healt...

Recently my father was admitted to Mackenzie Health via emergency and then remained there for over a week, before being transferred to Southlake for a heart procedure. Now speaking to so many family members and friends I can understand the reputation and score this hospital has. First the good, overall the nursing staff was fantastic with both being empathetic and courteous. The doctors and administrative staff was the opposite. Specifically the cardiologist on duty who appears to be overworked. While he was in a rush I was surprised to hear he told my family members he did not want to share the details of my dad's state with other doctors as he had 'a lot of requests from family members to share information with someone else but didn't have time'. Of course we are able to sign into his tests thru an app and share it that way ourselves, it was still unfortunate. The admin staff's primary responsibility also appeared more to flip rooms and not want to listen to concerns for the patient. One administrator told us "the doctors do not decide who gets what kind of room, we do" yet were unfamiliar with medical conditions. In a stressful situation where a parent is sick, those experiences stick with you, and when possible I will never send my parents back there if I can help it. Of course choice is limited in emergency situations. In cases like that I urge people to take their own notes and advocate for their loved ones. This hospital primarily operates as a business and adds to stress rather than helping to relieve it.

Very bad experience In the emergency. There was only one doctor and the nurses were ill-mannered and rude. They did not have basic communication skills. We spent the whole night being ignored and we left in the morning without the treatment or medication. Awful!!

I was on my way to Ottawa but had a medical emergency and Mackenzie Richmond Hill was the closest hospital. Once I arrived, it only took half an hour for me to be seen by the triage nurse, get registered and into a room. I was promptly put on IV and the nurses checked in on me frequently. All members of the medical team I encountered were friendly, efficient and competent. I noticed a great camaraderie among the staff. The hospital is very efficiently run. I am fortunate to have received such great care at this wonderful hospital.

The ER nurse was terrible. She was running from patient to patient barely doing her job like a chicken with its head cut off.

The ER doctor told me that I would have to get an ultra sound just to be sure that it was my appendix. The guy who did my ultra sound was great, but apparently the shots weren't good enough.

Back to the ER where I was told I needed a cat scan.

After the cat scan, they confirmed it was my appendix and they I would need surgery. The doctor told me they would give me some antibiotics and that I would get surgery by 6:30AM the next day. They even told me that there was a good chance they would rupture. WHAT? And I have to wait?

The headless nurse came to give me the antibiotics but got distracted and I had to remind her to do it several times before she finally did.

They told me I would be waiting in the ER till a room was ready. It was almost 1AM at this point and I was exhausted and starving and dehydrated because I was told I couldn't eat or drink.

They put me on a stretcher in the hallway to sleep all night. Headless nurse told me that I wouldn't be admitted for surgery until I had a room.

I forced myself up and went to complain to some other nurses who laughed at me and told me I was hallucinating due to morphine. I tried to tell them that's what the ER nurse told me but they didn't care. So I went back to my corner and cried.

Another nurse approached me and said there was no documentation to prove that the ER doctor told my family and I that I would be having surgery by then.

I was finally admitted into a room where I had to wait until 4PM before I had surgery.

When I woke up from surgery, I was in massive amounts of pain and I was not given a Popsicle/freezie like I was given in other hospitals. I was told having anything would make me sick.

I was dehydrated because they had barely given me any fluids through my IV (I had only been through two bags in two whole days) and I hadn't had anything to drink since 11:30AM the day before.

My recovery period after surgery, wasn't too awful and the doctors who did my surgery were okay. Everything else was a terrible experience.

This is my local hospital I have visited the emergency department numerous times over the years. As recently as today even. I'll say this if I were dying I wouldn't go here.
At best the wait is between 4 to 6 hours. The staff have terrible attitudes and the doctors are more focused on looking at one another's vacation pictures and eating ice cream than attending to patients.

Thr staff dont seem to really want to be there. This place is disappointing

This is my go to place whenever I'm in need of ER attention. People need to realize that your experience isn't based on first come first serve, its based on 'life or limb' urgency. I'm sorry your sprained ankle wasn't treated fast enough...

Bad experience here had trouble breathing and I had to wait in the waiting hall of 3 hours and it was 5 in the morning and barely any patients. Ridiculous and the nurse didn't want to answer any questions. The specialists are nice and caring but everyone else does below whats expected. Now with covid they quoted my dad 1 day for a result on the phone and now on the paper it says 5-7 days. We now have to rebook a flight costing over 5 grand. Terrible and unorganized.

I would give this hospital a zero. I could get a medical degree and treat my daughter myself with the wait times. I waited over 8 hrs to get everything done. People around me waited 9 to 10 hours.

I figured out why hospitals make you wait such long times. It's psychological. If you walk in with pain in your arm or foot or whatever, they make you wait 10 hours so you leave with a headache and the pain shifts from your arm to your head. Never again.

I was in good hands at all times. Impressively quick and efficient processes for check-in, and very little waiting (even though I came in early). Staff at registration (Hi Maggie!), nursing staff, and doctors were friendly, professional and thorough. Being able to follow my medical history online through mychart.mackenziehealth.ca is appreciated! Thanks for being my partners in ensuring my good health.

I was very pleased with the birthing unit at Mackenzie Health. Throughout my stay I dealt with many different doctors and nurses and each one treated me with the best of care. Their patience and professionalism was much appreciated. I would recommend this hospital to any mother to be:)

I recently had day surgery at Mackenzie Health the experience there was amazing, everyone was very helpful from the wonderful woman at the help desk in Building A that directed to the correct area in building C to the medical staff that were very pleasant , accommodating, attentive and some of the friendliest severance I have every had . Definitely 2 thumbs up

I believe this is the MOST unorganized and unprofessional emergency room I ve ever seen. We stayed their for 10hrs, which most of the time was wasted waiting for the nurses to do treatments. This should have been done right away according to the doctor that prescribed pain killers and fluids but instead the nurses were chatting about personal matters and left my wife in aggonizing pain for over 5 hours. I believe 90% of the night shift nurses should be fired or there should be better supervision over them so they actually do their job. Disappointed in this hospital for allowing nurses to slack off and work without supervision. Wish I could give 0/5.

I had my first surgery in this hospital. It was the best experience I've had in a hospital, from the person who registered me to the last nurse helped me they were incredible. The staff that works in this hospital is totally friendly and they try to make your stay the best they can. Many thanks to all who work at Mckenzie Hospital.

Absolutely horrible place. To make matters worse,...

Absolutely horrible place. To make matters worse, they do not care about the patient's mental health here at all , nor take it into consideration, and you are more likely to feel completely disregarded and invisible rather than being treated like a human with emotions.
There is no worse feeling than coming to a hospital in the worst mental state you have ever been in your life after suffering since your early teens, and being treated like your situation is mild and trivial.
There can be absolutely no worse feeling.

I have never felt as unimportant in my life as I have here, and I would never expect to experience this in a hospital of all places in the world.

Mental health is just as important and can be as severe as any severe physical ailment.
My experience here was extremely negative and I quite literally shiver every time I drive by here. would rather travel 5 hours away to a good hospital half dying than come here again. Avoid like the plague everyone.

Nurses in emergency spend their time sitting on their buts talking and showing each other pictures on their cells. There was one nurse sitting behind the desk that I never saw look up from her phone. Terrible attitude and did not help the doctor when she asked for help. Really unproffesional behaviour. Got to the hospital at midnight-got home at 6am. Will travel a little further if there is a next time and go to another hospital.

I have found myself in a few situations where I have had to go to MacKenzie Health and I must say that giving this hospital 1 star is being generous.

I went to MacKenzie Health when I started having one sided sever pain and bleeding during the first trimester.
The Doctor did not take anything I said seriously. He said it was *just a misscarrige* and my body would sort itself out.
After a few days I was literally in the fetal position in pain my husband took me to a different hospital where I was diagnosed with a Ectopic pregnancy. Luckily we got to it in time without rupture.
This hospital is very well known for being dismissive. Writing people out of there. Doctors and nurses are in a hurry, short and rushed. The ONLY thing they care about is getting you out of there. The nurses have no compassion.... it's really so sad to see. This hospital needs a LOT of work.... and I don't mean redecorating or new computer system but rather with there staff. Rushing people of the ER is a very risky game, one day it will cost somebody dearly.

My uncle went to this hospital last year. He had a very rare disease which was like finding a needle in a hay stack. But the extremely competent doctors were able to diagnose properly and started treatment immediately. If there was any delay, my uncle would have been paralysed or could have died. Thanks to all the staff at Mackenzie Health Hospital. Somesh Sharma

This is the second time in 3 months my elderly fat...

This is the second time in 3 months my elderly father was brought to emergency by ambulance. Both times he is left on a stretcher for over 24 hrs in an emergency hallway. This is obviously a normal expectation of our health system. There are actual numbers on the walls in the hallway so they can keep track of the patience being left in hallways.
Have you ever been sick and just wanted to sleep in a dark room? Seems like a torture tactic to keep them in a crowded, bright, noisy, hallway for 24 hrs. But the staff look at us like we are unreasonable with our expectations. Of a bed to lay and some privacy during our weakest time.

Patience screaming for help and because as a somewhat normal and empathic person I flag a nurse to help a stranger in need, I get caught off before I finish my sentence and told, "it's not my patient.
So now the patient has soiled herself and I stand witness to her embarrassment as she makes eye contact with me.

This all seems crazy, but also very normal of you work in the emergency.

And the paramedics that brought him here said this was the best option. So I guess I should just accept that this is what our world class health care is. Apparently everywhere else is worst???

I have two things to review; the first being the daycare centre, and second, the psych department.

I did my placement in the childcare facility there, and I was disgusted. I've voltunteered in kindergartens, daycares, worked at day camps, and I would rate this one #1 on the 'do not send your kids to' list. This place doesn't seem to actually care about the children they're trusted with. They'd make a newsletter for the parents with pictures of the kids doing activities, and telling parents about the day. Which is a great idea, don't get me wrong. What I found disgusting was how the staff would set up an activity, the kids would get excited seeing it be set up, and then the teachers would pick a few kids, instruct them on what to do, snap a few pictures and then put everything away within 2 minutes. Then they'd write an article on how the children had 'so much fun' doing this activity. That's misleading and lazy. There were also times when they'd take out a laptop, go on YouTube and let it auto play children's shows.
But the thing that bothered me the most was how little the staff actually seemed to care about the kids. There was a bullying issue in the classroom, and when a kid would get hurt, or a toy taken, instead of comforting the crying kid or preventing the 'bully' from hurting anyone further, they'd snatch the toy back or simply say 'don't do that' and then walk away. Usually the 'bully' would just do the whole thing over again. The head staff in that room acted more like a business owner than a childcare worker.
Asides from those negatives, the daycare provides healthy snacks for the kids, and has lots of ways for children to explore their creativity. I was impressed with how kids could freely go up and paint with tools or fingers as they please. Story time is also nicely done.
So there's the pros and cons for that.

For the psych department, I was actually pretty impressed. Wait time wasn't too bad, and the psychiatrist was warm and friendly, easy to open up to and talk with, and super helpful.

I'd give more stars for the psych department, but the main focus of this review was the childcare centre.

I had a day surgery procedure in January. My visit throughout the continuum of care from the beginning through to discharge and post discharge visit to Fracture Clinic was positive. Throughout all, the staff and physicians were organized, caring and professional . I felt that I was well cared for and if needed I would definitely return for care at Mackenzie Health.

This hospital is totally mismanaged. I took my 65 year old father to an emergency room when he fell down on the icy porch and broke his hand. It was a mid day on Thu and we spent 6.5 hours before he has been seen by a doctor. I can only imaging how long we would've waited if it was at night or on weekend... I heard rumours about how bad this hospital is but never experienced it firsthand. With ridiculous amounts of money we spent on healthcare in our taxes, it is unacceptable that even in emergency situations we cannot get proper services! I have family in Germany and their healthcare is way better than ours. The difference is that they don't have 10 bureaucrats per one doctor!

Called the hospital to find out information on my father after being notified by the hospital - was transferred to the wrong department after speaking to the "operator" - when whoever I was speaking to realized I was transferred to the wrong department I was rudely told "you're wasting my time, you called the wrong department" then hung up on me! Regardless if I was transferred to the wrong department - they have no excuse talking to me SO disrespectful! Clearly you don't know my father or what hes being treated for, have COMPASSION!

I was admitted to the hospital 2 days ago with a kidney stone diagnosis. The pain that I was going through was indescribable. My 5-stars go to the Triage and Register crew that were very fast in admitting me; also Dr Berlinner was amazing in quickly administering the pain relief medication and arranging the ultrasound and XRay. I ve also got lucky in being assisted by the super kind nurse Faheen. She is an example of how a nurse should conduct in an environment full of people in pain. The urologist Dr Shahani was very kind in explaining everything related to my illness and prescribing the much needed medicines. Overall I ve got lucky in being taken care of by a great team of specialists. Thank you!!!

I went to the emergency Monday December 4th at 6:00am. All staff members were great. Working quickly and efficiently. I had a few tests done within a couple hours. Overall, hospital was very clean. I would like to say thank you to everyone that helped me that morning! Keep up the good work.

My wife is there now for a Doctor requested blood test as she is pregnant. She was told by the Hospital this test took place on Tuesday's at 11am only. She has now been there for 5.5 hours and all they say is they are busy. She is 7 months pregnant, on a work day which she has now had to miss, sitting there being told the Doctor is busy yet this is a scheduled test.

This is patient abuse. The Hospital staff treat patients as inconveniences if they inquire when they will have their SCHEDULED APPOINTMENT.

My Review... Take the extra 15 minute and drive to South Lake in Newmarket. This place is disgusting.

No one looks forward to having a Colonoscopy, and today after a couple of days of prep (nasty, nasty prep) I arrived at Mackenzie Health this morning for the procedure. Every single member of the staff; reception, nurses (especially the one who magically put in the painless I.V.) the volunteer and Dr. S. Jackson and procedural staff were excellent. It was so refreshing seeing a talented team of professionals who really care about their patients. After the procedure, Dr. Jackson spoke with me in straight forward, understandable English informing me of the results and patiently answered all of my questions. I am not particularly looking forward to my next Colonoscopy in five years but it will be at Mackenzie. Thank you everyone.

Received great care at the hospital, the Doctors were available & the nurses & xray was done immediately.

However, I have been there more than 4 hours on a weekend. Would be great to have more doctors & medical staff for emergency?
Overall great service & care though.

Thank you.

The emergency room has always been unacceptably slow. People wait 3 hours to get checked by a doctor, then 3 additional hours to find out from a nurse what's the treatment the doctor prescribed. Then 3 more hours to see a doctor for the final opinion. Either not sufficient or very slow staff.

We called in today for a follow up visit following a bad fall by a family member. The staff there were fantastic and really friendly. The appointment did take a bit longer than anticipated but it was busy so no complaints on that front however the car park is stupidly expensive $14 for 1 hour?!

I would like to give my thanks to Mackenzie Health for the exceptional care I received! The staff and physicians in the emergency department were kind, caring and very knowledgeable. Thank you!!

Both I and my Dad have been a imaging outpatient a few times in the past 12 months. Each experience was consistently wonderful.

There was no real wait time. (I don t count the 2 minutes between taking a number and being called a wait.) The directions of where to go next through the whole process were clear, unambiguous, given to me on paper and verbally. Everyone we encountered was polite, and eager to help. The waiting, examining and procedure rooms as well as the halls were all very clean, well lite and pleasant.

At the first appointment, everything was on time, people were cheerful & helpful, and the whole process from walking in to leaving the building (yes including the CAT Scan) was 20 minutes. I thought we might have been on Candid Camera . When we had the next appointment we joked, What are the chances we could receive the same level of service . Apparently the answer was 100%, because the second appointment was no different than the first. Same for the subsequent appointments.

I offer kudos to all of the staff at Mackenzie Health for making a trip for tests at the hospital a very pleasant experience. The level of service we received was terrific and I wish that all other service oriented business in Canada would match it.

Actually the only difficulty I had was trying to find where on the Mackenzie website is the page that I could enter these comments!

Keep up the fantastic work!

I have gone back and forth about writing this revi...

I have gone back and forth about writing this review, mainly because I didn't want to think about this event in detail again. I've finally decided to write it. This review is strictly about my horrifying experience in the ER, not the rest of the hospital, where the nurses and doctors were very helpful.

In 2014, I had an appendectomy at Mackenzie Health. The following day, I was discharged and prescribed Percocet. I later learned that a side effect of Percocet is urine retention. By that same night, I was back in the ER with extreme pain and discomfort from massive urine retention. This could have been solved promptly if the ER nurse had put in a catheter. Not only did she not give me a catheter, she advised against it, all while giving me morphine and a constant IV drip for 8 hours, exacerbating the problem, as my body was unable to expel any of the liquid. At some point, she did a blood test, something she evidently did not know how to do. She jammed a needle in my arm, and poked around trying to find a vein. I continued to express how much discomfort I was experiencing, and after a series of unnecessary MRIs, the nurse eventually said, there's nothing else I can do for this patient. When my parents and boyfriend complained to the Head Nurse, she couldn t be bothered to help and instead argued with them. Hours after having been placed in a room and waiting without any nurse checking on me, I finally saw a doctor, who was uninterested and reluctant to treat me. He provided no medical help or answers, and eventually just disappeared. It wasn t until the next morning that a new nurse knew right away that what I needed was a catheter. The MRI results, which were consulted only after the new nurse had put in the catheter, revealed that the fluid accumulated in my bladder had surpassed capacity, and my enlarged bladder was pushing my other organs out of the way, a potentially fatal situation. The results also showed a mysterious fluid around my kidneys, something the doctors initially suspected was an infection that could lead to septic shock. I was hospitalized for another week, kept under close supervision and given antibiotics.

It is baffling that over the course of 8 hours in the ER, two nurses and a doctor were unable and reluctant to provide me with any answers or medical help. In addition to them being alarmingly incompetent and unprepared, their attitude was perhaps the most disheartening aspect. I am well aware that after years of being in the medical field, you might become desensitized to some degree. However, when your job involves interacting with ill patients who rely on you to give them answers and a sense of comfort, the very least you should do is treat them with respect, compassion and professionalism.

Emergency staff were great. Doctors and surgeons were great. Nurses on the ICU were amazing. Nurses in the surgery ward - so many of them gave my family and I SO MUCH ATTITUDE and totally insensitive and disregard for my fathers needs. When needing a translator they were insensitive to his situation. And spoke to me with so much contempt. Ask them any question and they will say I don t know or why didn t you ask the doctor before of course with attitude as well.

I want to sincerely thank the staff at Mackenzie Health, we found them to be outstanding.

We know that hospital staff have one of the most challenging jobs and are some of the hardest working people in the workforce. This team was remarkable and, on many occasions, went above and beyond the call of duty.
My mother was admitted in Nov 2018 and starting with the attentive and compassionate care we received in Emergency through the following weeks...we felt that everyone there had our best interest at heart.

I would like to acknowledge Mr. James Sweeney, for looking at our situation and offering sound and educated advice. I feel fortunate and honored to have dealt with him.

Any hospital stay is stressful for families. During our most stressful period, we were fortunate to meet James and his team. Although some of the stress could not be eliminated, It was much easier to handle.

I would also like to thank Mr. Stationwala for his excellent leadership at Mackenzie Health. The care and professionalism was second to none. We have been and will continue to tell our friends and family of the excellent care at Mackenzie Health.

Sincerely,
Carol and Frank DiDonato

I have 4-5 bad experience for reffering to emergency ward of major Mackenzie hospital in hard time, tthe emergency ward is small, all the people with different disease baby to old man sit side by side , they transfer disease easily, doctors and nurses are very slow, not professional and just busy with computer typing, in the night just one doctor stay there , he doesn t introduce himself he is not friendly and just in less than one minute ask few questions, he doesn t touch the patient for professional examination or even doesnt use stetescope for patient with discomfort in chest, send patient to blood lab to kill the time for 5 hours and nurse do blood work after 2 hours and result after 3 hours and see the doctor for tratment after 2 hours and usually mistake treatment and just send patient for internist appointment for next 10 days, easy peasy !!!! When we complain supervisor come and say it is our rule waiting mn 5 hours, just ministry ordered us just having one doctor and 2 nurse is more than enogh for night shift, I made consent to leave there after 2 hours and supervisor didn t make any apology , I hope this hospital will be change to great real general hospital and and get rid of this unuseful clinic that make stress to patients, most people in richmond hill have No other place for emergency and even ambulance doesnt go any where else because they say it is closest hospital. We are not allowed to go any where else even other hospitals they don t make reception for people who live in Richmondhill, tell us what we can do to get rid of this hospital in this area in Richmondhill, I am really unsatisfied of its management , they don t follow international alphabet of emergency and very rude, 3 years before we reffred to emergency for apandicitis of my son , he had all signs of apandicitis but they wasted the time for 10 hours and apandis burst and made abcess in his abdomen , just God saved him

WORST HOSPITAL EVER! Last night I went to the emergency and waited 6 hours and still hadn't seen a doctor. Absolutely ridiculous! To make matters worse, when I had been called to the "red zone" (basically another waiting room) there were about 4 nurses just lounging, chit chatting, and laughing it up. Great to see our tax dollars hard at work. When I asked one of the nurses how much longer we would be waiting, her reply was..."well that depends on the doctor. He is here now, but may be called away again". Are you telling me that there is 1 doctor for that entire emergency. And to top it off, that emergency area is not his main priority. I understand that there may be matters that would be more urgent than mine, but 1 doctor....are you kidding me! I thought my condition was fairly serious, but I had to leave after 6 hours without being treated or even seen by a doctor. Tonight I will be heading to another doctor. I'm currently pregnant and was considering this hospital for my delivery. After seeing the way they operate, there is no way I would ever trust this hospital to take care of me when giving birth. I will never step foot in that hospital again.

Have always been impressed with the service and care at this hospital. They have a real balancing act to perform with all the multiple needs and patient emergencies. And they do it well given the daily challenges and limited resources they have. Well done. Thank you for all your service over the years!
