I received a gift certificate from my husband for my birthday. I had heard and read really horrible things about the services, prices and atmosphere, but how bad could a spa really be? I called to make my appointment and the girl at the desk was very pleasant and scheduled a friend and myself for a hydrotherapy + swedish massage package. On the day of my appointment I called and asked if I could upgrade my package to include a deep tissue massage. She said yes, but it was an up charge of $20. I went to Kimberly's and was extremely surprised that there are no other amenities included in your spa services. Complexions in Latham (where I normally go) has a sauna, steam room, triple headed shower, relaxation lounge, and tea/snack bar. Kimberly's had a coffee carafe which was empty and a cookie-nazi that handed out one cookie to each person and put the rest behind the counter. I chose the seaweed hydrotherapy, which while good, was not worth $55. . The herbal bath at Complexions is MUCH better for $35. My masseuse Jonathan was amazing. Since Kimberly's only has one hydrotherapy bath, my friend and I could not go together and her bath was scheduled after mine so I had some time to kill after my services. I put on clothes and waited for my friend to finish. I was brought to a living room area and left there. There was no coffee, no tea, no lounge chairs. Just a couch and an empty fireplace. I waited for about 20 minutes before going downstairs to a now packed seating area. I finally got a cup of coffee and sorry, Splenda is not available. We went to the desk to pay and my service was $20 more than I had been quoted in the morning. I explained that I called in the morning and was told the girl must have been mistaken, you can't upgrade the package. So I essentially paid full price for both. When I asked for the name of the reception who told me the incorrect price, I was told there is no way to get that information. I complained to a manager with the same response, "perhaps she didn't understand the question". So I asked how can you misinterpret "Can I upgrade this package?" I was then put on hold for 15 minutes before hanging up. I now have $100 left on my gift certificate which I will never use and surprise there are no refunds on gift certificates, even if you are an extremely unhappy customer. For all that are looking for a great spa, I highly recommend Complexions in Latham, or Hair and Body Essentials in Clifton Park.
