I worked with Jason Canulla, and I have very mixed feelings about the experience. Jason quickly found an apartment that fit most of my requirements, and he went out of his way to help me move there (for example, Facetiming from the neighborhood to show me where I could park the moving truck, and getting the keys so I could pick them up on the weekend). He was energetic, responsive, and nice to work with throughout the process. That's the good part. On to the bad.
One of the positives was that heat was included in the rent -- that's what Jason communicated to me in our discussions and by email when describing the apartment. Well, 20 days in I receive a $180 electric bill (in March!). I called the apartment management and found that in fact heat is not included. Called Jason, who expressed surprise and blamed the apartment listing system Key uses. Apparently, this apartment was listed as having heat included. He promised to take care of it. That was three weeks ago. Since then, he has become very difficult to get a hold of (in spite of repeated calls and emails). Today he got back to me, offering the "possibility" of a $100 gift certificate (you see, he has to talk to his boss about it). This is unacceptable. I don't expect real estate agents to be perfect, but I do expert them, like any professional, to take responsibility for their mistakes and make it right. Otherwise, how can I (or you) trust anything Jason says?
(Digression: what about the lease? I have read it carefully before signing. Some of their units do have heat included, so the lease says "heat is included unless it's not," in a more obfuscated legalistic language. Since Jason assured me that this apartment does have heat included, the vague terms in the lease did not raise a flag.)
