Situated in a beautiful setting, surrounded by mountains and natural springs, The Homestead is a must see and must stay location. There is plenty to do for the whole family, from zip-lining to the lazy river. The room was very spacious. The food was great. The staff was very friendly. And the atmosphere is fantastic.

Love this place. Been coming here for years. But selling off or abandoning assets. Old springs no longer open, everything worn ratty n run down. Power outages and inoperable elevators, gratuities no longer included in bills, pools broken dow and not open. charges on everything. Hmm very sad and disappointing

The Homestead is so wonderful. The beauty of the location, the setting in the mountains, the amenities are all amazing. I have been twice and really enjoyed the restaurants, amenities such as the pool, and the top-notch service. This past weekend, as a part of their American Family series, the kids-focused events were so much fun for all of us. I know they helped to create amazing memories for my son. The only reason I give this review 4 stars, is that the rooms are not the best. We were in the "garden wing," which is well-insulated and quiet. However, the rooms need a deep clean badly, or even replacement of carpets and upholstery. The HVAC system was loud and could not combat the humid weather, so we actually had mold/mildew growing on our ceiling and could smell it all weekend. It's an 1970's building, so likely not well constructed in terms of modern HVAC, but there are some things that Omni could do to update. I'd pay more to stay a night without mildew.

NOT A FOUR DIAMOND RESORT on this past trip! Front desk employees are all foreign and hard to understand. They also have a hard time giving correct information. Also, no one seems to know the history about the resort...it's 250+ years old and not one person knew anything about the place they work at. Food was way over priced and just ok & what's worse is no one will tell you there's other stores, restaurants & other "off site" activities. They are too worried about lost revenue? A waste of money and time. Food was out of stock, machines couldn't produce drinks, activities & sports equipment was old & broken. They should've paid me to go there!

We had a wonderful time at the Homestead. I'm writing specifically to say a great big Thank You to Sandy in housekeeping, who was so helpful in finding and retrieving an item that one of our party had left behind in her room after we checked out. Sandy was extremely patient in fielding my repeated calls over several days to inquire about the item and to suggest places to look. Our story had a happy ending, and it's all due to her. So THANK YOU, Sandy. You are a credit to your job and to the Homestead. It's people like you who really make a place special. The Homestead is lucky to have you!

Lovely old world ambiance combined with modern, well functioning facilities. Southern charm and hospitality. The staff was attentive, responsive and obviously proud of their work and of the hotel. Highly recommended for a comfortable stay at a good value.

My mother and I enjoyed an overnight stay at the hotel and overall had a wonderful time. We enjoyed dining in the main dining room, shopping, and tea in the parlor. We even went to the skeet shooting which was the highlight of the trip. The staff was wonderful and it was a different experience getting to shoot the guns with someone helping us. There was a transport van that was very prompt with picking us up also. There are wonderful places to hike. We wish the Jefferson pools would have been open to enjoy the natural springs but they are in disrepair and hopefully going to be fixed soon. One thing I would say is watch out for the charges for ordering movies in the hotel room. The tax can be a little pricey.

I stayed at this resort for a convention. While it's beautiful, it's also old and needs lots of work. I never had any hot water in the morning, I stayed 3 nights. I could never get a reservation for dinner even though it's included in your rate. I slept with lots of Lady bugs in my room, which is creepy. One night I did call maintenance to vacuum all about 20 ladybugs crawling over my ceiling.

Honestly, it was OK but the salt to the injury, 3 maintenance men plus more employees went in my room, while I had the do not enter sign hanging on my door, and when I returned, my wireless ear buds went missing. They were brand new, I brought them to use so I could workout in the morning, but they went missing from my room on that day! I placed a complaint but no answer or compensation was ever given. I am going to play the race card as this resort is very telling of their heritage and racial bias. I am of Latin decent and feel no person of color should ever go here willing. I am sure if I was white, I would have received the proper attention to my dilema.

Thank you for taking my money and ear buds!

While the staff is friendly and professional, the facilities haven't been updated in decades and it clearly shows, and the service/amenities are below average for the prices that they charge. The rooms are expensive but problem-ridden. I came in a large family group and 2 out of the 4 rooms we were given had air conditioning problems. The furniture and decor in the rooms was what you would expect in an average hotel anywhere in the US, and the bathrooms were nothing special. Would expect much more from a resort like this. The food was priced as if you were eating something special, but nothing there seemed particularly special or good to me. The lazy river and mini golf are ok and could use a significant upgrading to be on par with newer resorts - same goes for many of the other facilities on site.

This place advertises that 26 Presidents have stayed at the Homestead, and I believe that really is its only claim to fame at this point. Everything else is a relic of its past glory. I think the only real draw to this place is telling your friends you stayed as this "fancy" place with lots of history. Would recommend spending your money elsewhere.

Great weekend stay. Had a 15th floor suite and views of pool and golf course were wonderful. Spent the morning playing golf while wife did the spa. Met up at the adult pool and enjoyed the evening. Did not have dinner on site, but the breakfast buffet was amazing!

Many things to do. Very isolated. The staff could know more about the restaurants, so be sure that you explore them yourself, especially Jefferson's bar/lounge area which is quite extensive. We recommend exploring the hotel before you make decisions. Online reading information is deficient to make the best choices.

Staff is excellent but physical structure needs cash infusion. Rooms look nice but outdoor elements are working their way in. Food was average . Im literally giving three stars based solely on how much I enjoyed interacting with staff. Omni should invest a little in upgrading building and they d have something .

Really enjoyed the atmosphere and history of the resort. Room prices high but neccessary for a resort of such stature; restaurant prices so high that it spoiled the eating experience.
I think I lost weight while I was there.
I would consider going there again, but would research eating some meals outside of the resort to protect my wallet.

We love The Homestead and have been coming here for years. But my only complaint is that they need to have more food options and restaurants available. Not everyone wants to sit in a main dining room to eat breakfast and dinner.

We reserved 2 nights they charged us for 3 nights then told me we had to wait 5 days for refund. We were charged $20 a day for parking and had to walk a quarter mile to resort. I don t mind paying for parking but $20 to walk that far is not right! The food was great the room was ok. Would not recommend this place to anyone!!

Truly beautiful resort, with amazing views. My wife and I spent a weekend here in late July and the staff was friendly, especially Allen who leads the hike. If you want to spend the day at the pool, get there early. We tried finding a chair one afternoon and none were available, so we had to spend some time wandering around the resort until one opened. Also, everything on the resort is super expensive and doubled the overall cost of our stay.

Traditional elegance in every way. Loved my stay at this distinguished resort. The beauty is captivating. Loved sitting in the lobby, with a glass of complimentary wine, and soaking in the beauty and reminiscing of days gone by. The Jefferson Restaurant was lovely and the food excellent. My room was charming with a cozy atmosphere. All services were top notch. Loved every minute of my stay.

The Homestead is a beautiful, classic hotel. I would not recommend eating at The Dining Room, however. The service was remarkably deficient. I got the impression that the servers were poorly trained or didn't care. The low point was being served a warm bottle of sauvignon blanc. Yes, this sounds really snobby but at a place like The Homestead you expect really top-notch service and that was absent.

This is like Grove Park Inn... Only in Virginia.... We had a wonderful stay here and would recommend it to anyone looking for a weekend getaway from Greenville... About 6 hours drive. They treated us like the VIPs we are (in our own minds)... Terrific anniversary!

We did not enjoy our stay, mostly because the dining options were poor. The cost of the stay was higher than staying at a moderate resort at Disney and the accomadtions and service were far below those of a Disney moderate resort. The staff was pleasant and the pool facility was nice. It was our first time staying there so maybe our experience was the results of not being familiar with the resort, but we expected more information to be available.

Overall, an amazing experience. A few pieces of feedback: too many nickel and dime fees. Ie: charging to go to the warm springs, (which at $17 per person was incredibly high) the $10 parking fee, the svc fee, etc. These small charges added up very quickly, which is a big issue considering the cost of the room was $220/night. Just set a flat rate and include everything. The bath tub was RIDICULOUSLY shallow. In luxury hotels, it's not unreasonable to want to enjoy a soak. The pedastal sink doesn't have much counter space for makeup, curling iron, etc., which wouldnt be a huge issue if there were a mirror in the bedroom. This was only an issue because I was there for a wedding, so makeup and hair were tough to orchestrate whilst sharing the bathroom/mirror with my boyfriend. Also there was not an exhaust fan in the bathroom, so the steam/blow dryer heat were a bit of an issue. I understand this is an older facility so these things are common, and again, overall I enjoyed my stay, these are just small improvements that could be made. In short, the bathrooms are pretty, but could be more functional. There could also be a mini fridge in the room for storing drinks. We ordered room svc, and the burger was overcooked, and the grilled cheese/soup was luke warm, so attention to detail on that front could be improved. However, the food at the wedding we attended was INCREDIBLE, the facility as a whole is gorgeous, and the staff is charming, friendly and helpful. They definitely know how to make you feel special. I'd recommend this resort but also caution that the cost will be much higher on the back end than you expect.

Keith has gotten in touch with me and has upgraded us to the finest suite that they have....I look forward to see what our experience is like after speaking with him and other hotel management. They accommodated my voucher and are going above and beyond thus far.

Will update next weekend. Looking forward to getting away for a few days.

As always, the staff is the best part of the Homestead. As with all of our previous stays, every single person we interacted with was friendly, helpful, and provided wonderful service. We look forward to returning to the Homestead for years to come.

Total local bar in the mission district of SF. This place felt like a speakeasy (I think it may have been one at one point). They featured all California beers on tap. I ended up trying an Anchorage on recommendation from our host. They also let you eat peanuts from the shell and drop them on the floor! This place was so fun. Right before we left the DJ started to set up, and he began to play all this old time jazz music. It was really unique!

We recently stayed at this glorious place for our anniversary, a real treat for us. We wanted to give 5 stars, but can't for one reason. We are seniors and don't move as fast as we once did. The young parents do not keep their children under control and almost tripped my husband more than once. He is a disabled Viet Nam veteran. The parents should teach their young children how to behave in public.

Beautiful old, elegant hotel nestled in mountain valley. Staff were quite friendly and helpful. The resort offers many and varied activities for every member of the family. Far from the maddening crowd which provided a great escape. Will definitely return.

The OMNI provides a fabulous experience with fine food and activities. The staff is the best I have experienced in any resort, they accommodated my wife who has serious food intolerances and were happy to do it.

Great resort.

This was a hard decision to make since the resort ...

This was a hard decision to make since the resort jumped between great and mediocre many times throughout our trip. I landed on 3 stars because while we overall enjoyed our stay, there were a lot of things that took us out of the resort feel that could easily have been avoided. However the atmosphere is very nice, and we will most likely be back.

The good:
1) The Jefferson Restaurant & Bar - the food, drinks, and service here were all quite good. As it is was pretty much the only place we could go to for dinner during the weekday (aka off day), we ended up eating there twice. Both times we were pleasantly surprised.

2) The tea and cake time - Every day at 3pm they have a nice tea and cake time, and we found that to be very pleasant. They lit fires in the fireplaces, and it was nice to hangout in that grand lobby while

3) The surrounding area - we went on a hike our last day, and it was really nice to be able to walk out their front door on a nice 1-1.5 hour hike and enjoy the scenery. We took the North Trail and enjoyed it immensely.

4) Beautiful spa - the spa is very nice and has a lot of different options inside it

The bad:
1) First and foremost, the price - Many things can be forgiven at a lower price point, but for the restaurants/spa pricing here, you can't help but feel you're being taken advantage of for what it is. 16 dollars at the casino lunch area for a pizza that looked worse than a frozen one you buy in a grocery store? Come on.

2) The service - the service ranged from pretty good, to just downright bad. Many times we asked employees around the property about open times for restaurants or things to do around and we just got blank stares and "I don't know." There was rarely an attitude of "let me find out for you!" or really any sort of apology for not knowing. The only exception here was the front desk, which was always very helpful.

The worst example of this was in the spa. After a couples massage, we wanted to order some food and drinks in the lounge area (which is two stories above the outside pool area). We asked a random employee about ordering, she said she would tell someone, which she never did. My wife went into the womens side figuring she would just ask someone and they'd help us. Wrong! She asked THREE people, including the manager at the front desk. Their response? Walk outside yourself and order it from the outside area. Meanwhile it's 40 degrees out, we're in robes, and had just finished our massage. Nobody said "let me take care of this for you" - they all just said either I don't know, or go get it yourself. For a spa, it was the very opposite of relaxing.

3) Maintenance - the property simply isn't maintained all that well. Walking around you just got the feeling that things were very old and not very well kept up. This was most obvious in the room, where 2 out of the 3 chairs we had were VERY stained. It also became clear why things looked the way they looked as throughout our stay housekeeping did a poor job of cleaning our room. They clearly didn't vacuum, or not well, and pushed dirt around when wiping down the bathroom sink area.

All in all the place has its charm, but falls short on service and the finer details. For a good promotion it would probably be worth going back to as the building is historic and pretty grand, but we won't make a special trip to go there again for its own sake.

A good contrast to this is the Mount Washington Hotel, also owned by Omni. We got married there and loved staying there, and go back regularly. We were hoping for the Homestead to be our Mount Washington replacement, but it didn't quite make it.

We hadn't even gotten there and I called ahead for special dinner request for a birthday and I had to call fives times then got put on hold indefinitely! Not a good first impression! After I called back, a lady I couldn't understand very well said the concierge was on the phone and I needed to call back again!! One thing I would just say is there should be anti slip strips in tubs and safety bars. Absolutely nothing to hold on to. Kinda dangerous for older folks. Plan on walking a lot for EVERYTHING! Nothing is close to the rooms. You should state that the adult pool is for spa packages only. The kids pool was so crowded you couldn't get in. On a good note, the beds are dreamy! The staff are all very nice!!!

The rooms were spacious but there was not really a view from the room we were in. We loved the casino restaurant they were kid friendly and the staff was great. The pool was wonderful and there were lots of outdoor activities. We had a wonderful time.

I just held a sales retreat here for 50+ people. We had a great time on the property. We held a business meeting in the Commonwealth room and it worked perfectly for our group. We also held two dinners on-site and the food and the servers made both dinners a success with the team. We scheduled activities for our team. They were able to choose from golf, spa treatments, shooting, a mixology class, and even falconry. Many said they enjoyed their chosen activity. Thomas was a great on-site resource and was easily accessible through the whole event. He was a pleasure to work with and was quick to accommodate any requests I brought to him. I look forward to returning here with the family on my personal time.

Located in the mountains, about a 75 minutes drive off the highway, rooms are ok, expected a little better, resort is very well kept up and impressive. Would come back, and although very little time spent in the room wish it was updated.

This has got to be one of the best places I have ever been. This resort is massive with such creativity. It's own museum, massive pools, ballrooms, wedding areas, special events, piano music in the lobby at night, board games that are free to play and rent, clean rooms, friendly workers, daily hotel tours, snow tubing, skiing, cheap restaurants, 3.5 mile hikes each Friday and Saturday, and did I mention everything else about the hotel? This was the best hotel I have EVER seen. I would love to go back! 10 out of 10. Would definitely visit again.

We went to the Omni Homestead for a quick weekend getaway and a bit of pampering. We were not disappointed. We took advantage of the Serenity Garden and were so relaxed afterward. Our dinner at Jefferson Grill and breakfast at the main dining hall were both amazing! Everything was tasty. Service; on par with the Homestead's image. LOVE the Homestead! Great value.

Customer service was outstanding! Was treated like a queen. Food at Jefferson Grill was exceptional. I had a wonderful rendition of shrimp and grits. Resort is older and has a few age related issues like Diego's that stick and stains on carpet, but all that is forgotten when you experience the Homestead. Beautifully decorated for the holidays. I didn't want to leave!

I was expected stuffy New England style (The Balsams) resort with tiny old rooms and much to my surprise it was a beautifully kept, facility with no pretense, all relaxing, patience on the part of the staff while maintaining a respect for your time with prompt respectful attention from beginning to end. They made sure you knew who they were, if you needed anything how to reach them and it was like a big hug. Food was spectacular not a bad meal was breakfast but it cannot go without notice that the Filet Mignon, while produced for a high number of people was perfect. Didn't need a steak knife and so impressive. Just go and enjoy.

I have been visiting the Homestead for 26 years, it is a once magnificent resort which has become an empty shell of it's former self. The service is a mere shadow of what it once was, Woody would be ashamed, and the food was mediocre at best during my most recent visit. The carpeting throughout the entire hotel hasn't been replaced since before I started visiting and it clearly shows with stains and advanced wear. Make sure you carefully document and look over the car before and after leaving it with the valet or you , like me, may end up with a damaged vehicle. One might assume that their insurance would take care of such problems, but that would be a mistake, as their insurance company is rude and, unless you have before and after photos AND stop the Homestead before you leave the premises you will be denied your claim. For such an expensive experience, I would suggest taking your money elsewhere.

Grounds are beautiful and well maintained. Structures and rooms are not. Changed rooms twice due to water leak and broken heater. Furniture is old, ripping, and stained. Same with the carpeting. Paint is peeling and wood is rotting. Windows don't function properly and don't seal. Food is good and large portions, but service is very slow. Understaffed throughout the resort. This grand hotel could be returned to a level to compete with The Greenbrier, but it is clear Omni does not care to invest at the required level and has trained the hotel staff to deliver revenue and not a luxury guest experience.

I stayed at the Omni Homestead in August 2014 and had a fabulous time. I went alone and the staff made me feel so comfortable and were so kind. I took the nature hike with Brian the guide and he was so knowledgeable and funny. I also took the Segway tour which was awesome and went horseback riding. The Spa is INCREDIBLE! I had massages and the staff was experienced and cared about how I was feeling. The food was top notch and the rooms were so nicely decorated and comfortable. I cannot wait to go back to the Homestead. The whole resort is beautiful!! If you are looking for a nice getaway with southern hospitality and lots to do, I highly recommend going to the Omni Homestead. You will Love it!

We are a family of 4 including two grown children (20's) and made a game time decision to spend two days/one night at Homestead on New Year's day . After an early check in we were able to enjoy all the Homestead has to offer with the grounds, pool, restaurants, bars , etc. Such a great, relaxing stay . We've decided to make it an annual trip but with more time. The Homestead exceeded our expectations - Comfy rooms, great amenities and super helpful/friendly staff. Big Shout out to Ken in the Jefferson restaurant for helping us out with a reservation and great table!

Was attending a wedding, when the power went out to the entire hotel due to a storm. The staff was very professional and helpful even in a trying time. The resort is also beautiful in a great destination.
