Great location ; easy access to the beach and with a rental car it's easy to get around where you need to. Staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. Be prepared to pay additional fees however - on top of the usual resort fees you need to pay a daily valet fee if you have a car with you.

First class experience. The hotel staff are first rate, unfailingly polite and helpful. The hotel is huge, with gorgeous views carefully designed into every space. They have an artistic motif front and center; statutes and paintings abound, with lighting fixtures and rotating platforms for some changing their entire presentation from day to night. It adds immeasurable beauty to the whole facility. Lights on the trees and tiki torches turn it into a visual wonderland at night, especially as the sun sets.
Aside from that there are many shops and amenities available on-site. Multiple different pools and slides and a wet bar in one of the pools. Just be aware that prices are as expected for a hotel of this caliber. A can of beer will run you $10, cocktail $18.
A beautiful sandy beach with yoga at dawn. I did that and found it truly inspiring. There's nothing like doing a pose, feeling your heart beating and seeing the first rays of dawn break over your shoulders on to that gorgeous panorama.
I hope to return when we can. Thank you for a wonderful experience.
We loved this resort. It was absolutely gorgeous & grand from the first moment we entered. The staff was incredibly friendly-- we used the concierge to book a few events and also the Enterprise desk on site was extremely helpful. The pool is AMAZING, huge and fun. We loved that all the pools were interconnected, and its VERY quiet after 7pm.
The beach is well appointed, with nice soft sand.
Our room seemed up to date and we had no maintenance problems. The bathroom was spacious and the bed was comfy. The area itself seems very peaceful-- I didn't have any problems with noise. Our room faced the mountain, and I spent a lovely morning watching the sunrise with a room service breakfast. A true Hawaiian experience.
The food options on site were really nice too and the Wailea area is very nice to stroll around, if you are so inclined.
The Grand Wailea has gotten strict with rules. You can no longer bring friends to the pool while you spend the night. Only 2 adults and 2 children per room.
The room is beautiful, and spacious, but I think I want to move into the bathroom. So beautiful! It feels like a spa. The staff here go over and above. They volunteered to set us up with extras for our drive to watch the sunrise. The pool complex is perfect for winding down after a day of adventuring. Tons of space, and plenty of activities.
Hotel is absolutely gorgeous and the staff is knowledgeable and friendly. The outdoor pools are some of the best I've ever experienced, and don't forget to try the 200ft water side!
Not very safe - Was given keys to an occupied room. Walked in a family gathering in the room. The family was shocked. No response back from the hotel on the serious breach of security.
May be it was a 4 star hotel 30 years ago, but now it's just ,filthy, dirty hotel like facility. One more time old and very dirty. Too bad i can't load some pictures( Hair all over my room, dirty windows and mirrors, black mold all over the shower, toilet was soo dirty that they decided it's easier to replace it then clean it, stains on sheets and towels. Staff is arrogant and poorly trained( managers, front desk, bar and restaurant staff, spa, pool and shops staff, NOT poor cleaning ladies and room service staff they are very nice actually). Glass of milk delivered to your room $13.95, Ihop quality breakfast for two $100, one bottle of water (16.9oz) $20 (you get only two complimentary bottles of water per stay) too compare a glass of rose in 2 Michelin star restaurant is $35. I understand that different people have different standards but I'm still amazed how someone can give this place 4-5 star review. DO NOT go there unless you like spend insane amount of money and be treated like crap.
This is my second time staying here and have to say it is the best resort I have stayed at. Hotel rooms have recently been renovated. Absolutely beautiful grounds. So much to take in, no matter where you look. Although pricey it is definitely worth staying here. The only negative I could find is that the beach chairs are lacking in comfort and need to be replaced.
The condition of everything at the grand wailea is always spectacular. Staff if always very friendly and welcoming. The grounds are always well maintained and manicured. The grand is also a beach from resort so you have some really beautiful views.
Best resort I have stayed at. Great customer service, great surroundings and activities, a private beach, amazing pools, and good restaurants to choose from.
My husband and I had a room with a king-size bed reserved for our stay there. Upon checking in, we told the lady at the front desk that we were there for our anniversary, and she informed us that she had moved us to an ocean-view room with two queen beds in it, as opposed to our reserved king-size bed room that, supposedly, overlooks the roof of a garage. So, she made it sound like she was doing us a favor. Come to find out, ALL of the rooms in this hotel face the ocean, so she moved us to a wing that had families with children in the rooms around us. The walls there are VERY thin, so we heard screaming children during our entire stay. The following day, I took a shower and was about to blow-dry my hair. I was horrified when I saw the hair-dryer they had in the room! It was full of dust, and the handle was all sticky to the touch and covered in filth! My husband called the front desk and requested for another hair-dryer to be delivered to the room. About 15 minutes go by, there's still no new hair-dryer. By then, my hair partially dried on its own and required to be rewashed for me to be able to style it. My husband calls downstairs again to check on the status of the new hair-dryer and gets transferred to housekeeping, where they ask him why he needs it. At that point, I grabbed the phone and told them that the hair-dryer they left in the room for the guests to use is an embarrassment to the hotel and that they should be ashamed of their department. About five minutes later, they delivered another hair-dryer. Then, we went downstairs to enjoy their breakfast buffet. They offered us a table that was right by the stairs next to a prep area, while better tables were available on the outside patio. I asked if we could have one of those tables instead and pointed at the one I wanted. They tried to offer us a different table instead, but I asked for the one with a better view that was available anyway. They said, "sure." 30 minutes go by, no one has acknowledged our existence. By then, my husband was done with his meal, while mine got cold during our wait for water, let alone any other drinks. I got up and told the hostess that no waiter has approached us, and we've been there for 30 minutes. She said she'd send someone right over. 10 more minutes go by, no one has approached us. So, I get the attention of Mike, the waiter that was serving the two tables right next to us and effectively ignoring our existence. I asked if it was his area, and he said yes, but because we moved to another table, the former waiter assigned to us would have to release us as customers for him to serve us. I said that we never even saw the other waiter, that we've been sitting there for about 40 minutes without having placed a drink order, and that I wanted to see the manager. Another 10 minutes later, the manager approached us, apologizing about the miscommunication between the hostess and the wait staff and offered to take care of our meal and drinks. Needless to say, my appetite and my mood were spoiled by then. If only the quality of their food made things better, but they fell short even there while charging $45 per person. I'd rate the food at 4/10. The omelette station was useless, as the lady there kept overcooking it. They struggle to keep their food hot, as it was always borderline cold, and the choices were not impressive at all. Beware - if you try to eat their Eggs Benedict, you may break a tooth on the over-toasted muffin. Now, the housekeeping...One of our wash towels was covered in fish oil. How do you overlook the stench and the yellow stains that all over it? Once reported to management, they were going to "deep-clean" the bathroom. All they did was replace the towels and the toiletries, except for shampoo (really?). In the rooms, the paint is peeling, the plastic on the shower door is broken off, so you flood the floor every time you take a shower. The housekeeping overlooks dirt stains on the floor and shower walls and even misses a price tag stuck by previous guests onto the wall. Save your money! THIS HOTEL IS A DISGRACE!
The whole experience, from arriving, to getting to your room is exquisite! The turn down service with a different Hawaiin saying each night is so nice! The bathtub is to die for, bring bath bombs! I would highly recommend this place! And with a short walk to the beach, it's the best!
Fantastic resort with beautiful well maintained grounds. This place is huge and has something for everyone. There are separate pools for kids and adults. The kids will have plenty to do with the waterslides and lazy river, while the adults can enjoy great cocktails and a swim up grotto bar complete with TV for the sports fans. The rooms are nice sized and tastefully decorated, and the gym and spa are fantastic. The beach is lovely and there are plenty of activities such as paddle boarding and kayaking if you are a more adventurous traveler. This is definitely a place we will come back to.
One of the best hotel experiences I've ever had. The staff are very proactive and make this a very immersive experience from the minute you step out of the car until you'r walking away with your bags.
Housekeeping not only does a respectful job but look for ways to improve your needs, for example they noticed my wife put a towel in front of the mirror; so when they came the brought in a rug for her to stand on instead.
The restaurant HumuHumu was simply fantastic, the service, the food, and maybe the most beautifully positioned sunset to watch from our table that you could ever imagine.
Shopping is a snap with not only the large selection of shops they have on property but the great options within a mile around them.
Snorkeling off their private beach with a small reef and turtles nearby, free paddleboard access, assigned beach chairs and umbrellas in front of the water, a pool system with slides, ropes, lazy rivers, etc all right there in front of the water for the family.
This property truly captures a piece of paradise and makes it feel like you're the center of attention at every step.
Everything was amazing, this place is easily a 5 star hotel. Why then the 4 star review? Because my god the bars in the wailea are over priced. 62 dollars for 3 (mid shelf) shots?
The Grand Wailea is more than a hotel, it s an experience. The staff is always there to make sure your having the best time. The resort fee includes all sorts of extra great activities like scuba introduction, a photo shoot, yoga... The best snorkeling is just out front of the hotel. It s literally where the tour boats bring you to see turtles. We had the best time and will definitely be returning. I d like to give a special shout out to Michelle and Joseph for taking such good care of us for our entire stay.
The lauau was ok. The food was decent and the dancing was pretty good. Definitely don't listen to them and show up at four. They will just make you stand in a line until five. This is not a small event. There were over 600 people involved. Overall it was satisfactory. We got out tickets at Costco for a reasonble discount
While the dinner setting was beautiful, the birthday celebration was marred as a convention reception for thousands with a loud band ruined the ambience for the evening.
To be honest, good service, but could be better. My expectations climb if I pay the price and reside in a Waldorf Astoria resort. If I kip in Rednecks shak at the price of $1 then I've no expectations.
The service is friendly and welcoming, but the hotel is aging. Minor problems like keys not working, shower drains backing up repeatedly, and fraying towels and rugs add up, especially for the price. The pool area is a lot of fun, although it too is in need of repairs. If you can manage to find a good deal, consider the Grand Wailea, but don't expect perfection.
Love the Grand. Beautiful gardens, great kid areas with slides and pools for every age. It used to be over $1000 a night, but they added more units and I saw some for under $500 a night. Very old style Hawaiian with lots of open air gathering areas and a fabulous Hawaiian themed stained glass chapel in a pond, garden area. The very popular on site Hummahumma restaurant is in a huge pond with unique grass hut like structures for eating areas. If you order a lobster, they pull up out of the water - a large bamboo basket with lobsters from which to choose. Very cool place with excellent food.
If your willing to spend a fortune staying at a resort close to the ocean then this is the place. They will charge you for everything and everything is OVERPRICED!. The resort fee is well above the $40 they mention, a beer will cost you $10-12, a simple breakfast sandwich is $18. I understand that they have fees and you pay for the location, but expect to shell out over $2k to stay here couple nights.
Will not be coming back to this location or any Waldorf Astoria Resorts since Mr. Waldorf is a billionaire who wouldn't mind if we did come back or not.
Everythings great but the VALET IS EXTREMELY RUDE. This is a very expensive hotel (definetly worth it btw) but maui being a place you have to drive alot to explore, you have to deal with valet everyday and they are extremely unprofessional if you dont tip. Of course they deserve a tip for working hard but people dont always carry small bills on them 24/7. Everything else was fantastic but the valet gets 0 stars.
Most unbelievable place I have ever stayed. Rooms were updated but still had character, clean, and bathroom was beautiful. Free internet was an absolute plus. Service was always efficient, friendly, and everyone went above and beyond during my whole stay. My group and I ate out fro every meal and every meal was exceptional. We ate at 4 different restaurants at the resort as well as at the Grand Wailea luau. Highly recommend this resort! It is paradise and I am already looking forward to my next trip there!
Nice resort. The kids love the pools. I wish the water slides were open after 5p. The beach is nice. Everything is expectedly expensive, but we knew that going in.
One day into this trip and so far a nightmare. We were promised a room with king size bed and then upon arrival were not given one. Today I called 7 times to speak to someone and after two hours received a call back saying the only option is to back up my stuff and leave it with them and when a room comes available they will call us. So i dont get a room for a day while they try to get me one. How is this a solution? This trip is not worth the money spent at all
The staff was excellent, my room had a wonderful ocean view, and the location was superb. The food has a massive disappointment especially breakfast. This is a five star hotel with a motel 6 breakfast. The breakfast for 35 dollars plus tax and plus tip consisted of some overcooked scrambled eggs and some underdone bacon from a buffet. It lacked the effort I expect from a 700 dollar a night hotel. I checked out and moved to the Fairmont, it s much better here. I would not stay here again.
Read this! Do NOT recommend! I should preface this review with the statement that we traveled to Maui during COVID so I won't comment on the many services that were unavailable to us (booked prior to COVID becoming a pandemic). Our greatest disappointment was that we arrived as a family of 12 with 5 of us having "pending" COVID results, which was permitted at the time. The day before our arrival the hotel had changed their policy and would no longer accept anyone to quarantine with pending results - we were never advised of this important change (nor were we ever informed of the many services that would be not be available or were closed. We were in regular communication with the hotel prior to arrival and none of the above was ever mentioned). Upon arrival, we were informed at the airport that we would not be permitted to stay at the Grand Wailea, which was news to us. I reached out to the hotel for assistance, only to experience staff that was unwilling to help (we had booked two villas for $1500 per night for 8 nights) or provide any direction. In fact, the staff on the phone was incredibly rude and when I inquired as to what our options were, I was told "I don't know ma'am, but you aren't staying here" (exact words!). I won't go into the chaos and confusion at the airport, but after an 8 hour flight, his response was less than comforting and shocking. We ended up going to the Andaz ($650 per night) for the days that we had to quarantine (5 nights for me, because CVS lost my test). Once we were able to check in to the Grand Wailea (Ho'Olei Villas), the staff had no idea what benefits were available to Hilton Honors members (we later found out - 2 days before we left- that we could have box breakfast that consisted of a yogurt, a very small danish and an orange juice). Additionally, we were advised that there was no longer shuttle service available between Ho'Olei villas and the main hotel (we were traveling with one person who had just completed chemo and another family member who was handicapped). We had to drive our cars across the street to the main hotel each time we wanted to use the pool or go to the beach - not a huge deal, except there was no valet and our rooms keys wouldn't open the parking garage gate- so it becamse an annoying hassle. The best was the pool chair situation! We had two villas at Ho'Olei for a total of 6 bedrooms for 12 people. We were allowed 2 chairs per villa - however, had we booked 6 rooms at the main hotel, we would have gotten 12 chairs - wait what?! Each day at 4 pm we needed to reserve our measly two chairs on a website for the next day. The following day, we were required to stand in line (usually 30 minutes-no kidding) to check in for our chairs and get wrist bands- oh and our handicapped family member had to show her face at the check in counter which was down a flight of stairs. Standing in line for pool lounge chairs is no way to spend a vacation-there has to be a better way. The bottom line is that neither the service nor the experience is what I would expect from a Hilton property, let alone a Waldorf - they fall way short - no one wanted to help or go above and beyond. We travel a lot as a family and for business, so we have reasonable expectations, which we adjusted for COVID, even so, it was beyond disappointing. Save your money! There are plenty of other hotels nearby who will appreciate your business.
Superb 5 star resort. Signature restaurant Humu is absolutely exceptional with a cuisine of superior quality and very attentive service. The sommelier is however very sad and unpleasant, he should rather work behind the scenes and not with direct customer service
The worst food in the restaurants and the worst customer service. Paid $365 a night and they treated us like criminals. After being here an entire week, when our credit card did not go through, they locked us out of our room. We came back at night after a dinner out with friend to find our lock on the door. the security came and they informed us that we can go in to grab a few things.... My husband went downstairs and took care of the issue immediately while the security guard waited outside the door while I was inside the room guarding me. They made me feel horrible. Is this a 4-star hotel? NO!!!! Bad service where they embarrass yo like this after you spend over $2000 with them. We will never return.
Great service, updated contemporary rooms and ammenities, full service oriented and well kept. Quiet, and cozy. Very romantic. Good accessibility. A very nice luxury resort. No self parking, difficult to navigate the property without a useful map. There is a fly problem at the pool with a strange stench attracting them, maybe temporary? Great bungalows by the pool for an extra fee. Not enough seats in the pool area for "everyone else" Prices are high. Nice for big spenders
Phenomenal location. We had a great time, almost never want to leave the resort. The luau was great, make sure to get in 30 before you get your seat. Food was delicious.
Beautiful resort, however roo.s are dated and if you are one that needs shade when sitting at the pool there are very few umbrellas. Also too many unused cabanas that rent for 600 a day which is more than a room here. They should replace the unused cabanas with more chairs with umbrellas. It's ridiculous that they are trying to make so much money on unused cabanas instead of putting up umbrellas for customers to use. This was our second time here and will be our last!
Resort is really nice, the pool is amazing hence the three stars, rooms are really average for $500 a night. Now for the downside, when you book online it shows up for $504 a night including taxes, although I just checked out and was charged a further $70 per night for "room tax". Not to mention the $30 per day for Valet really the only choice as they don't offer any other parking, on top of that $30 per day for hotel services. So really instead of paying $504 it was really $640 per night. It's not about the money, but the false advertising and lying doesn't look good. I even showed them upon checkin that I could get the same room cheaper through trivago they said that it doesn't count because I'm already on their cheapest rate lol. Won't be coming back that's for sure
The grand wailea is by far the best hotel on the island of maui. The pool is amazing and it's only steps from a wonderful beach. There's also lots of restaurants nearby. I recommend monkey pod which is just up the street. Definitely a great place for families, with pools that have water slides and lazy rivers. Very fun.
A really great resort. Stayed here once for work and just checked out a few days ago with my wife for a week stay. Beautiful resort, friendly, helpful staff, nice rooms, beautiful pool and beach....we simply loved it.
The only negatives I can think of is prices. We all know it's a Waldorf and a Waldorf in Hawaii to top it off. But $15 drinks, really?? The drinks and food on property is just blatantly high. At check out our bill included just over $1,000 which was solely for drinks and 1 pool side lunch. That's just outrageous. Which is why we ate off site for almost every meal. Also, Wayne, the bartender at the pool bar...kudos my friend, he does a great job, but he really needs help. I can't tell you how many times we went to the pool bar and it was packed with 25 people or more and Wayne is always the only bartender. They really need 2 bartenders for that bar. A nice thing that we really appreciate now, is that the beach lounge chairs and umbrellas are complementary for guests. We are at the Hilton Hawaiian Village in Oahu now and they charge guests $60 for 2 chairs and an umbrella a day!!!! So it made us really appreciate the Grand Wailea.
So all in all, come to the Grand Wailea knowing the prices and you will have a great time. It's really a beautiful, magical place. We hope to be back in the near future!
