Of the hotels in the area, I would rather be at the Dream or the Standard. For context, my wife was in the city three nights for work, so I decided to tag along. The challenges were:

Decor: The rooms are uninspiring. The rooms look dated. It looked as if the hotel was trying for a trendy look but missed the mark. The hope was to have a chic trendy room and nice bathroom along with the standards of a "W" hotel. This fell short. Instead of showers, it was a tub with a shower head designed for someone under 5'10''. The shower curtain didn't shut all the way which resulted in water always on the floor. Our coffee maker spewed water all over the place. The general feel of the room was rather dull.

Temperature: The first night, the room A/C had two modes Antarctica or Sahara all within a three-degree range setting (69-71). Neither my wife nor I slept well. We flagged this issue with management who did send an engineer up on the second day. What I can say is 1) the A/C vents right out onto the bed 2) it's a bit overpowering and loud. Instead of having a constant flow of cool air, we were inundated with cooling cycles which streamed cold air right on the bed. I've done construction in NYC building out high-end office spaces and would say the issue was in large part design.

Bed: Pretty sure it was a full size vs queen bed. The challenge was it was super soft. With two people in the bed, we found ourselves sinking to the middle. Personally, a soft bed doesn't work for me and at the end our stay, my back was killing me to the point I could not sleep.

Crowd: While sitting outside the hotel and watching people walk by was great crowd-watching, the crowd on the inside lobby was more B&T and guests of the hotel. I appreciate that this is out of the control of the hotel and very subjective.

Responsiveness: I wrote the yelp review on the second day, before contacting management. After seeing the response below, I called the front desk, raised a few issues and asked for a call back on the second day. I never heard back from the front desk so, on the second day, I had the opportunity to stay at our house in the suburbs which I took advantage of vs staying at the hotel. I did email the hotel on the third day. To their credit, they offered us an upgrade to a suite. I declined. The third night was not much different than the first. I woke at 4:00 (between the A/C and the mattress) and left at 5:30 as I gave up on trying to get a reasonable sleep.

In short, we didn't enjoy our stay... We were looking for a three-day escape in a trendy area and hotel. Where it landed was one night, I chose not to stay at the hotel and the other two we got poor sleep... If it was a non-corporate stay and had I made the reservations vs my wife, we would have either checked out or taken the hotel up on the upgrade, but short of this review, I didn't feel like making a big deal of it and upending my wife's work plans... In fairness to the hotel, by the time I was able to talk to them, they were accommodating and willing to work with us...

We had very strange situation at the hotel. The room was already cleaned, but later someone just entered to the room, while I was in the shower. And to my question who is there, I did not get an answer and the person quickly left the room. I tried to explain this situation later at the reception, that I don t feel safe that someone has the key of the room and can just enter without knocking the door. But no-one could explain who was that and no-one apologized for that awful situation. Very disappointing experience.

Additionally, employees were extremely loud every morning at around 07:00-08:00 and I was waking up from there noises.

I would not come back to this hotel again.

Though I need to mention that the location is very good. You have very nice restaurants around.

There is also nice swimming-pool.

In the rooms you have strong hairdryer (for long hair) and hair straightener.

Just the worst. Depressing hotel, everything is dark and dingy, painted grey. Handheld showerhead in a bath. Tried to withhold over one hundred dollars per night for incidentals without mentioning it to us. Very hot room that couldn't be cooled down without opening a window. Very thin walls. Regretted staying here, not worth the price.

WARNING: if you stay at this hotel during the winter months and it happens to be Unseasonably warm outside, be prepared to have your room feel like a sauna. Apparently the temperature setting that you control in your room is somewhat of a placebo. I was informed that during the winter it blows nothing but heat despite what the display indicates.

The polite and professional gentleman at the front desk Implied to me after I had a terrible night sleep that it was essentially my fault because I didn t call the front desk to complain. They would have instructed me to turn off my AC system and open the window. Apparently it s my bad that I assumed the AC controls in a Luxury brand hotel actually did something.

I m not happy and I regret paying a premium price to stay at the GANSEVOORT; verses the many other hotel options Manhattan had available last night.

The massage I got itself was great. The masseuse was professional. It was a little weird that he tried to start a conversation while giving me a massage. Not a big deal though. My gripe was when you get a full body massage, you need to have a pillow when you turn over to the front. It's very uncomfortable to be lying flat on the table. I can't believe I spent almost $200 at for a massage at a place that doesn't provide that. Also, I wasn't offered to get in a robe, or to take a shower. I think that should come standard at a spa that has prices like Spa H? Also, the food was lacking in the main room. Cut up bagel pieces? Really? I won't be returning to the spa. Too bad, b/c it's really close to my apartment, and the ambiance of the spa is great. It has a lot of potential. For the amount of money you spend there, I'd rather go to Red Door or Bliss.

Solid hotel, but expect noise if you are there on a weekend night. Also, you will get charged for everything in the room, including bottled water and coffee. Just check before using stuff.

The security detail is incapable of maintaining peace in the club. Several guests were assaulted at a party, and instead of resolving the situation the security crew proceeed to throw out the victims. Not OK.

Nice hotel in the meatpacking but the bar and club from the hotel makes it a noisy place depending where your room is. New York style, nothing is free not even a bottle of complementary water to welcome you (or the coffee capsule in the room... not very pleasant for a room at 400$ / night)

We stayed on a Saturday night and were suppose to get a King Bed with the Get it all package. After checkin we had to constantly tell them everything we were suppose to be getting with the package .everyone was searching for a tip every step of the way no matter how small the gesture. We got what we believe was a full size bed we couldn't even sleep together in. We did receive everything in the package except the breakfast but still got billed for it. We were triple charged for the valet but after multiple calls they took care of. The price we were guaranteed for the room was not what we were charged and still havent gotten that back. I hate going somewhere where everything is no and a fight. Too mNy great hotels in NY to ever stay there again

A lovely place to spend a few nights. The staff were always extremely helpful and courteous. The room was extremely comfortable and quiet compared to the other hotels I've stayed at in New York City.

It also had nice room appeal with a retro styled bluetooth speaker system, and cute plush geese on the beds (they cost $10 to take home).

Attached is what the room looked like when I walked in, and the view from the room's tiny balcony at night.

To be a 4-star I would only give it enough. Fairly clean, bathroom with shower only. Good bar breakfast: cereals, yogurt and fruit; potatoes, eggs and bacon; pancakes...
The hotel staff does not speak Italian. I went there for business trip but if I return to New York I will definitely look for another hotel.

Congratulations on everything. Great professionalism of the staff, great strategy of the location, excellent cleaning of the rooms and all the rooms. Location on the unique terrace.
Special mention for Lauren reception (for its friendliness) and Paul in services and in the reception prior to arrival, never seen such a clear availability.
If you decide to go to New York, think seriously about this new structure on 9th.

Nice hotel in a great location (lots of restaurants in walking distance). Friendly staff. Rooms are unusually spacious for NYC - mine had a couch and two comfy chairs in addition to King size bed, and plenty of room left to walk. My only complaint - the window blinds are completely insufficient to get the room dark during daylight, so it can be hard to sleep late.

I briefly went to the rooftop club at this hotel. Security was very efficient and the club was nice with an excellent view. The music wasn't the greatest to me. The rum and coke I had was $17 and there was barely any rum in it so that was my cue to exit. I was only here for 30ish minutes in total.

Worst experience of my life...i am very sad because it was a week to relax and spend good time with my husband after battling health problems in my family. At the time of check out we were surprised by being charged for a daily more and when we questioned a very rude manager replied that there was a noise complain from our room on Sunday at 5:30 am and the night manager called , was up to our room and we didn't obey the orders...We were so in shocked that the rude manager decided to come up with another story, which actually we were fighting really loud...humiliation one behind the other. To continue we were so upsets that we asked to talked to the night manager to confront such a terrible things...of course he was not there...so it was our world against his...At the end i was so angry that i told them i wouldn't pay for such awful lies, then other manager came and said they weren't charged us that time BUT they needed to check the facts ...This Hotel is not for decente couple like us...we were humiliated and treated like troublemaker after spending one week at the hotel ...we were even asked if it was another people in our room...just incredible situation...i will never stay in this hotel again...

Good place to enjoy a not so '' crazy crowed environment '', good music, nice people to meet, somewhat costly, not a really extensive drinks menu, security is amiable and very responsible.

Check in process was easy and the people at the front desk were friendly. I had the double bed room and everything was clean and nicely appointed. They provide very nice toiletries. The location of the hotel is great with a short walk to Chelsea Market but the surrounding streets were under construction so it was a bit difficult to get around.

The rooms are extremely tired; doors were falling off, drawers broken and blinds didn t keep the light out. We pushed hard and were offered a discount of a third off. This hotel is in desperate need of a refurb. The pool was very small and hugely overcrowded with people from outside of the hotel.

Further to this, they accidentally charged us an additional $530 without authorisation.

Right in the heart of the Meatpacking district, great restaurants, cafes, music , good food all in walking distance from this hotel. You have all the amenities and then some. Get reservations. Hotel Gansevoort. Five star hotel directly within walking distance of all restaurants, bars and cafes. The pool? Oh I forgot. You ll see.

I was here for an event on the rooftop. There were some great views, including the Standard Hotel and you can see the Apple store from there. On the other end, there is a swimming pool too.

Booked a get hitched package for a one night stay after being talked into it. I was looking for a stay with spa accommodations for a special event and this was the package offering all the aminities I was looking for.

The room was supposed to be upgraded. The room I received was basic, outdated, nothing special about it. The view was not glamorous. There was supposed to be a bottle of Prosecco and a box of chocolates on arrival, which never showed. There was s bottle of wine so included in the package , I couldn t even drink half , it was not of great quality. Bouquet of flowers which were also included, seemed throw together. The bed was super uncomfortable. Walls were paper thin. There was random calls to our room at 7:30 and 8:00, so no sleep after that. Also the streets below were very noisey with construction work that could be heard from the 10th floor!

The spa experience was another downfall. The spa was in the basement, it smelled of sewage. On arrival , a man and woman greeted us and rushed us into a small room that barely fit two massage tables. The massage therapists had to confirm with the front about 3 times what type of massage we booked for. By this time, the massage was 15 minutes late but still ended at original time, only receiving almost half of our allotted time. The massage therapist were awkward , it felt rushed, they kept bumping into us and each other due to the small workspace. It was noisey , there was nothing relaxing about the experience. The massage itself was probably one of the worst I have received.

Breakfast was served at the Chester. American breakfast served. I asked for eggs over easy , they came out well done. The plate of food was also cold.

Two stars because the waiters were very nice and accommodating, also the location of the hotel.

I was overcharged by hundreds of dollars and had to point it out several times at the front lobby before they fixed it. Also was charged random small amounts to my credit card throughout the night causing my bank to stop payments on my card due to thinking it was fraudulent charges, which have yet to be reversed !! How inconvenient.

Would not recommmend or stay again. Do yourself a favor and stay at one of the many hotels nearby, which I have frequented many times and have had lovely experiences!
