Of the hotels in the area, I would rather be at the Dream or the Standard. For context, my wife was in the city three nights for work, so I decided to tag along. The challenges were:
Decor: The rooms are uninspiring. The rooms look dated. It looked as if the hotel was trying for a trendy look but missed the mark. The hope was to have a chic trendy room and nice bathroom along with the standards of a "W" hotel. This fell short. Instead of showers, it was a tub with a shower head designed for someone under 5'10''. The shower curtain didn't shut all the way which resulted in water always on the floor. Our coffee maker spewed water all over the place. The general feel of the room was rather dull.
Temperature: The first night, the room A/C had two modes Antarctica or Sahara all within a three-degree range setting (69-71). Neither my wife nor I slept well. We flagged this issue with management who did send an engineer up on the second day. What I can say is 1) the A/C vents right out onto the bed 2) it's a bit overpowering and loud. Instead of having a constant flow of cool air, we were inundated with cooling cycles which streamed cold air right on the bed. I've done construction in NYC building out high-end office spaces and would say the issue was in large part design.
Bed: Pretty sure it was a full size vs queen bed. The challenge was it was super soft. With two people in the bed, we found ourselves sinking to the middle. Personally, a soft bed doesn't work for me and at the end our stay, my back was killing me to the point I could not sleep.
Crowd: While sitting outside the hotel and watching people walk by was great crowd-watching, the crowd on the inside lobby was more B&T and guests of the hotel. I appreciate that this is out of the control of the hotel and very subjective.
Responsiveness: I wrote the yelp review on the second day, before contacting management. After seeing the response below, I called the front desk, raised a few issues and asked for a call back on the second day. I never heard back from the front desk so, on the second day, I had the opportunity to stay at our house in the suburbs which I took advantage of vs staying at the hotel. I did email the hotel on the third day. To their credit, they offered us an upgrade to a suite. I declined. The third night was not much different than the first. I woke at 4:00 (between the A/C and the mattress) and left at 5:30 as I gave up on trying to get a reasonable sleep.
In short, we didn't enjoy our stay... We were looking for a three-day escape in a trendy area and hotel. Where it landed was one night, I chose not to stay at the hotel and the other two we got poor sleep... If it was a non-corporate stay and had I made the reservations vs my wife, we would have either checked out or taken the hotel up on the upgrade, but short of this review, I didn't feel like making a big deal of it and upending my wife's work plans... In fairness to the hotel, by the time I was able to talk to them, they were accommodating and willing to work with us...
