My experience at the Gansevoort was unusual and regrettable.

I ve been fortunate to have traveled around the country and around the world, having visited more than 36 countries and many US cities. The Gansevoort was a good hotel with a great location, definitely someplace that I would have considered returning to stay when visiting NYC again.

Upon checkout, it was noted to me at the front desk that I had used the coffee services in my room. This was untrue, so I said no, I did not. The employee removed the charge with no issue. Upon reflection, I found this mistaken charge by the hotel to be unusual, as it hasn t happened to me in the past.

Onto something more serious: the night before my departure, I had returned to the hotel around 8:15pm by myself, carrying a bag of takeout dinner. The hotel lobby isn t big or grand, so I made a beeline to the elevators to take me up to my sixth floor room. I noticed a tall security guard watching me when I entered the lobby, but didn t think anything of it. After I pressed the elevator button and saw it light up, I then noticed the security guard come toward me. He also pressed the elevator button, which I thought strange given that the button light was already lit. After pressing the button, the security guard looked at me up and down, paused, and didn t say a word. I expected him to greet or acknowledge me. He didn t, so I said, thanks (for pushing the elevator button).

Upon reflection, I strongly believe that the security guard had racially profiled me and most likely thought that I did not belong at the hotel. He may have concluded that I was delivering Chinese food, or any food (I do happen to be of Chinese heritage, and am American).

Security is a big concern at hotels, which is understood. Being watched and profiled for no real reason is uncool. Perhaps the hotel can install keycard controlled access in its elevators? Perhaps the security guard could have asked to see my keycard, or if I needed any help? I certainly did not loiter in the lobby and knew exactly where I was going making a beeline to the elevators.

I slept on this experience and woke up still very much bothered by it all.

At checkout the next morning, I spoke to the two gentlemen at the front desk about the experience I described above. They were both very attentive, and apologetic, and one of them replied that he d check with the security team about it (which I hope he did). I thanked them for listening and understanding.

It s uncommon for me to be profiled like this, so I found the experience jarring and upsetting. I do understand that there are others who experience profiling almost daily, so now I empathize more. As for the Gansevoort, I will be avoiding this hotel in the future.

This hotel is great but DO NOT waste your time going up to the Plunge rooftop lounge. Horrible horrible service! If you want to wait 30 minutes for a drink and have drinks to be spilled onto you and not even get an apology then it s for you.

Cool hotel, but wasn't impressed with the customer service. After informing them multiple times about overheating room and not able to control the temperature, we were told to open the window. Rooms are cozy and the bathroom vanity has very limited space. At the time of my visit parts of the rooftop bar Plunge was under construction.

I had to purchase a bottle to enter which cost a pretty penny, because I had 6 guest with me. I don't know if you need reservations to enter. Regardless, The venue was nice and the security treated us like VIP.

Stayed two nights. AC did not work in lobby or room. Several times called and stopped at front desk. They said they would send maintenance every time. It never happened. It was a cool 81 degrees in the room and staff would not move us or get the AC issue fixed. Room 1000 in case you wonder. Security staff was also rude and unprofessional. I have never been treated so poorly by the staff in a hotel I was staying in. Rooftop bar was average. Weak drinks and overpriced $19 cocktails.

Nice spot for a fun stay in the city. Lots to do and see in Chelsea. Rooms are big and clean. The rooftop lounge is a good spot to just hang back, chat and take in the views of lower Manhattan.

It's super random living in NYC and taking out hotels in NYC. But as it happens, I like to vacation in the city I reside in (keeps me calm and collected) so through the years I've been randomly choosing hotels and staycationing a couple of nights.

This week I chose the Gansevoort and everything about them earned them 4 (Almost 5) stars. I arrived late in the evening and did have some requests prior to my arrival. Walking in to my suite, everything I had requested was in the room just as I hoped.

The room was cozy yet workable. Floor to ceiling windows overlooking Hudson St. Fully stocked mini bar with delicious food and drinks. I did order room service a couple of times, and was pleasantly happy when they arrived well before the estimated time with delicious, hot fresh food.

My friends came to visit me at some point in the evening so we went up to the FABULOUS large rooftop the Gansevoort is known for. We ordered drinks and food and once again they were just great. I love that they have a very large smoking section on the roof. It is an added bonus but very well worth it for smokers like us. The staff at the rooftop were very pleasant, happy and friendly people.

What really amazed me, at one point I went downstairs to explore Chelsea Market. On my way out I put the sign for cleaning on my door, I only left for a very short time but when I came back up my room was spotless and new. I thought that was very impressive.

The Gansevoort is located in a really cool part of Manhattan at the Meatpacking District. It is the perfect hotel if you're looking for adventure and activity. I definitely recommend it and look forward to staying there again.

Nice and cozy rooftop with a pool and gorgeous views. Only thing that bothered me was there security guards were alil aggressive telling me I had to leave right away because I wasn't a guest. He just didn't like that fact that I was wearing a gym shirt bit I get it. Drink are good and expensive so unless your trying to impress someone go somewhere else

This is about the rooftop bar specifically, as I have not stayed in the hotel itself. The bar offers great views, good drinks, and a fun setting to take anyone for an evening cocktail. Turns into a great dance scene late night with good DJs in rotation (top 40, edm, pop) so if you can make it in, it's worth it.

Who ever took care of my party reservation did a horrible job. Lack of communication, didn't show sympathy for their mistake, did not trying helping me out even though I had a gusslist of 30 people whom traveled from jersey and we were not even allowed in with normal cover charge because "they only go by guess list". Horrible birthday!

Fantastic experience overall! The lobby bar was extremely happening for a weeknight, but the room was dead quiet, not to mention surprisingly spacious for a NYC hotel. A great night's sleep in a great location in the city.

Not as good as I had hope.

Not as good as I had hope.
Had to complain a number of times and was given two rooms before we was given one that was acceptable.
The rooftop swimming pool, that was the main attraction of this hotel was undergoing construction work and was closed 2 day. And then it was closed other times for private parties so hotel guests not allowed. Although when the pool was open it was great.
Staff were generally rude and didn t seem to care much about our concerns.
Food and drink in the hotel was good although again service was pretty poor.
As well as the pool there was construction going on all over the hotel which was very noisy in the day.
In summary I would say avoid this overpriced hotel and shop about, there is a lot better in New York in this price bracket.

The service by the staff eventhough is very honest has a lack of leadership and commitment, the staff is not organized and people need to be running from one place to another and customers are not being treated as they should be due to this, they need a more effective and efficient management

Nice hotel, good location. Staff was very friendly. Only thing I wasn't a fan of was the stuff for sale all around the room, and I wasn't sure what was free. There were two bottles of water beside the bed with prices on them, so that's clear. There were some energy drinks beside those without prices, so i assume those are free. There were two smaller bottles of water on the bureau, also no prices, so maybe also free. However, there were process for the energy drinks and smaller waters on the mini bar menu, so maybe not free. Nice stay otherwise.

Superficially attractive but you have to pay for coffee in your room. Really? Lame. Especially for the price of the room. Upstairs bar cool and DJ is very good. Good hotel in Chelsea but there are other good options near the High Line.

This place is beautiful and the suite I was on gave me a very nice view. The room was clean and it was very relaxing. I felt like I didn't want to leave at all haha, i stayed there most of the night until I had to go out and all I wanted to do after I left was just talk about how great the place was to my friends. The staff were courteous and professional. I recommend this to anyone thats looking for a beautiful hotel in NY
