The valet service at the Chaminade was horrible. My partner and I needed to go to the store before they closed at 10 pm. We went to valet at 9:30 pm to get our keys and were informed that they had been lost. Brandon from guest services kindly offered us a ride in his own vehicle to the store. Upon our return to the Chaminade valet had found our keys. Brandon truly went above and beyond his job duties and we greatly appreciated his generosity and dedication to customer satisfaction. It is because of him that we rate the services of Chaminade at 5 starts.

Beautiful location in the hills of Santa Cruz. Great trails to hike and is close to many great places like the Boardwalk, Downtown, and many other beach fronts. Rooms are standard hotel rooms. Nothing special and you can especially hear the neighbors if they have a loud child. But I think I was just unlucky because walking around I could hardly hear much noise. Didn't partake in the spa or other amenities but would like to come back and try them out.
Chaminade is a very beautiful and relaxing resort. Located in the Santa Cruz mountains, the surroundings are beautiful. Staff is very attentive, rooms are very comfortable, food is excellent, and between the spa, gym, saunas, pools, and hiking trails, there are no shortage of things to do.
Was there for one night on a work retreat. The rooms and facilities were immaculate and staff was really friendly and helpful. I also got a massage in the spa and spent time in the sauna and steam rooms, which was super relaxing. My only complaints would be that the tub didn't hold water to take a bath, and the buffet options for vegans were really slim.
We had a great stay at the resort. The rooms are nice and cozy, the pool and the gym were awesome. The water in the swimming pool was nice and warm. The reception was really nice helping us find a room, when our reservation was canceled by the booking website. We were a little bit disappointed by the reception not disclosing the full cost of the room ahead of time and not mentioning that taxes and resort fees were not included in the price.
Amazing and wonderful with a different room feel from all the hotels I've been at. Aside from being really expensive and everything it offers being expensive, I loved it
I've stayed at the Chaminade a few times now. I would definitely recommend a second floor room. This was the most peaceful stay, even though it washed just one night. I think we may have gotten a room that's seldomly used, as it was a little dustier than usual, but not a deal breaker. We called Ford extra towels and to have the sofa bed made up. After a few attempts to get someone to answer the phone, they came pretty quickly. I'd definitely stay again, especially if I can find the same great deal.
I was extremely apprehensive about our visit. I had booked four nights here and then read the negative reviews... I felt foolish for booking without reading them first. We were pleasantly surprised!!!. The facilities are very nice 4 star accomodations. The restauraunt has great food (the manager is top notch). The breakfast buffet was very impressive. There are plenty of healthy choices.
Great food. Amazing views of the mountains. Not. The cleanest place. However, good customer service. Far from Santa Cruz' town center. Stores close early during the winter months.
I wouldn t recommend this resort. The hallway leading to our room was lined with multiple room service trays and smelled like old food. The room was little dusty and not super clean. I got down a blanket for the pull out bed. It was dirty with people and dog hair. The fire pit was not working and they said you had to have a reservation for that. It was nothing like the pictures. We won t go back!
Expensive with out the quality. Bath room was tired and hogpog. Nice idea of quiet time from 10 pm to 8 am, but someone emptying glass bottles at 6 am defeated the point. Awake anyway because the person in the room above was already awake and waking around, which can be heard clearly by us. Pool was ok, if small.
The rooms here are decorated in a very hip and cool way. It seems like it's an old hotel or something that has been remodeled but they've done a good job with it even though the Bones show their age and the layout. Service was excellent I think the price for the room was a good value everything was extremely clean and well maintained and in a nice location.
I had a beautiful trip there during the first week of March 2019. After heading up the beautiful entrance road we found a quiet oasis near Santa Cruz without the bustle of the city. A great place to rest and relax after a busy trip around the central California coast every day. The resort is beautiful with many luxury amenities. Wish we would've had more time.
What can I say about this hotel... let's start with the hotelWhat can I say about this hotel... let's start with the hotel.
Hotel: The hotel was extremely misleading and nowhere close to being a resort and spa. It felt like the whole thing was parking with some paths to walk on that made it feel like an old folks home. The hotel is also not maintained at all and old. Our rooms had marks on the walls, dinged up with paint chipped off from the walls. The towels smelled strongly of bleach and I was afraid to sleep under the covers as that smelled of bleach as well. The heater in our room was also not working right, no matter how we controlled it either it was like a sauna cause it would be so hot or not work at all. The only thing okay thing about the hotel is that it's in the woods Which could have been a real oasis if it was maintained and designer properly. With the hotel also being so far from everything I would expect them to offer some sort of shuttle or taxi service. When I asked for a taxi they said I should take a lyft and don't know where the taxi numbers are. The food is also not that great and expensive. One of our lyft drivers that is also a delivery drive for restaurants told us that he gets food delivery request from guests in the hotel every other day and all of them say that it's too far to go get food and not willing to touch the hotel food cause it's so bad so they order out.
Next the spa The spa is the worst and most misleading part. Saying that the spa has a heated pool and Jacuzi is a complete lie when actually it is in the courtyard in the middle of parking and nothingness of the complex with railing around that patch. Who would want to walk from their massage outside to a pool that kids are jumping in and out of, that is not the point of a relaxing spa. The other Jacuzzi of the spa was not working either and was cold with no promise to fix it when we asked them about it. The worst part was saying the spa has saunas and steam rooms when they are actually in the fitness/spa locker rooms which is not what you are looking for when you go for a couples spa day. So with the Jacuzzi broken and the other in the middle of the parking lot and separate locker steam rooms there is nothing to do there for a couple but wait for your appointment. The spa appointments were also not great, they showed up 15 minutes late and ended 10 minutes early. The spa has 1 waiting room that holds about 5-8 people for spa guests is right next to the check in counter so you can hear everything and not be able to relax due to all the noise. So there is nowhere to go to relax in the spa even when waiting for a treatment so by the end I just wanted to get out of there. I actually tried to canceled everything I had booked at the spa after seeing it's conduction but didn't because I would not get a refund on anything. Looking back I would have said forget the refund and get out of there.
Overall not only did I come out of the hotel mad, frustrated and very much not relaxed but I wasted money on a place that did not match the price and a 3 day weekend on a place that I just want to forget.
This was a last minute stay due to a change in our original plans. Everything was excellent. Room are unique, food is was delicious and service was excellent. Highly recommend!
Nice resort though looks like it's heavily used. Grounds were nice. Quite a drive to get there. Went for business so didn't use spa amenities. Had woods out window so was very pleasant. Living quarters were set around meeting area.
Absolutely love this place. It is not your topical hotel where you're confined to 4 walls. This hotel is sorrounded by nature, nice and peaceful and elegant at the same time.
We came for a business lunch and the service was so terrible one of us had to pack up after an hour and take his $16 sandwich to go as we had to get back to the office, the other one left his hamburger as instead of medium rare it was well done. Even the paying of the check took 10 minutes after the card was taken. We will avoid this place in the future!
I came here for a conference for work, and the resort staff has been very accommodating. From the delicious meals, to the spacious rooms, I have no complaints!
The Chaminade Resort and Spa is a spectacular 300 acre mountaintop hotel in Santa Cruz, California. This AAA, Four Diamond resort offers hiking trails through the redwoods, pool, spa, and fire pits with amazing views. We love filming events or taking photos here!
The new spa is nice, but the new prices are ridiculous. It just is not worth it when you can receive equal or better services for so much less. They have just gotten carried away in thier pricing and then have the nerve to charge 20% gratuity on top of high prices. A gratuity should be at the discression of the guest for good service, not manditory. It really is too bad. It used to be my favorite.
The Chaminade is, and has been, the premier spa/resort in Santa Cruz. Caters to many hobbies, like tennis swimming and golf, and has a nice restaurant with a Sunday Brunch. Rooms are clean, and very nice. Plus pricing is competitive... Very nice place to, eat, stay, have a meeting, or any and all of the above.
we chose chaminade resort to celebrate our anniversary and what a let down. It appeared to be a very nice resort based off the website but for the price you may as well stay at a motel 6. the gal at the front desk was not helpful and seemed like she didn't want to work there. when we made it to our room we were surprised to see a crummy room that we over paid for. parking is a nightmare, we had to be very aggressive to secure a spot that wasnt at the bottom of the hill or a quarter mile away from the room. All day and night there were skateboarders using the area as a personal skate park right next to our vehicle. we notified chaminade about our experience and did not even receive an acknowledgment or apology..... horrible, this place is a JOKE!
Update to original review
chaminade reached out and asked us to call the general manager, i called 2 days in a row left a voice mail and sent an email with no response. they then refunded us on their resort fee of $37.00 without any response or notification. the customer service directly reflects the quality and experience of staying at this resort. we paid over $400 for a cheap hotel room and they dodge us and refund us some chump change. great job ...not
Beautiful setting on mountain in redwoods. Clean rooms. Property slightly outdated compared to their marketing info. Not as fancy as they try to sound but still very nice. Large pool, spa on sight and large property
Very comfortable clean and soaceous. Excellent food, friendly staff and very kid friendly. Lots to do, love this place, great for families or just coupkco relaxing
First night: roaches on the floor. Second night: heater didn't work. Plus, I got extra charged on my account for a long distance call that I did not recognize.
Charminade is a beautiful resort. My girlfriend and I had a little weekend getaway there, the service was stellar, the facilities are clean and enjoyable. Wish we had a chance to check out the spa, but instead enjoyed the sauna and pool. Highly recommend.
When we first arrived, the resort seemed amazing. We had bought 4 rooms, two of them suites. However, we found out that the phones in the rooms that were not suites didn't work. We went to dinner at the restaurant in the main building, where the lobby is. The food was AMAZING, but the service was terrible. Our waitress asked us what we wanted to drink and that was it. She didn't come back the whole meal! We finally got another waiter, however it took about an hour for the food to arrive. The pool at the hotel was so awesome. I ordered lunch there the second and third day. The next morning, be had breakfast at the buffet. It was so good we had it again the next day! That night, we had dinner at the hotel restaurant again. Our waitress was very nice and the service was much better. Overall, the hotel was... OK, not the best, but not the worst.
Went to a lovely dinner last night 12/12 with my family but had some complications. I arrived around 5pm and pulled upfront , there was no valet in site Wich is very odd as in the past there has always been someone greeting me . I think nothing of it and walk in to find him thinking maybe the valet is just busy. I walk in to where the stand is and see the valet sitting on his phone hunched over not even acknowledging the fact that I m standing right in front of him I say hello and i could tel it puzzled him. He quickly drops his phone and says I can park my car anywhere upfront , I respond with I want to valet it he keeps saying I can park it upfront! I don t wanna park it upfront I was it valeted! Upon my third time of saying no he finally valets my car and gives me some attitude and disrespect. Couldn t catch a name to report but it was very very poor service. Wich I ve never experienced at the Chaninade. One thing I did catch as a name was his jacket said Santa Cruz valet. Not sure if that s just the Chaminade s valet service? The service in the restaurant was great and the food was fantastic! But valet service was horrible.
This was a wonderful extinction to our valentines day vacation. I absolutely loved everything about our stay here. So relaxing, and soothing. Our room was super comfy. Family friendly and romantic at the same time. The staff was awsome, and really made our stay comfortable.
Absolutely Loved this place. The only problem was we couldn t stay longer!! Clean, Quiet, comfortable. I Loved waking up and having coffee on my patio that looked over the woods. Great Place, highly recommend.
Rooms are nice quiet and comfortable. The service is great with, in room dining till 10pm, and a lot of amenities. The spa has every thing you need, sauna and steam room available, and heated pool and hot tub. Would definitely reccomend
Looked at this for a potential wedding venue. Beautiful arbor for a ceremony site of up to 230. Ballroom also accommodates up to 230 but is smaller than comparable ballrooms. The up side is that their ballroom has windows. Packages start as low as $114 pp without a beverage package.
Deffently not worth what we paid for the room. We came here for the spa features and they were closed, they make u pay a extra 37 $ for resort fees and you don't even get to use what the fees are for, we have to drive thru a maze of buildings with cars on both sides on a street so narrow it should have been a one way, get to the building to find out we are on the second story and no elevator and we had to carry all our baggage up the stairs . we get to our room expecting a nice cool room and it was just as hot as it was out side witch was 90 outside and the air conditioning wouldn't turn on and when I called the front seat after 50 rings the young answers and tells me to turn it on low witch it already is and to leave the room for 30 mins witch was redicious! But we did and when we came back it was still as hot as it was and there was no difference,I called the front desk and asked to be moved and they said they couldn't, for paying almost 300 for a night at a resort with no services it was a waste of our money we could have saved the money and camped in the forest and been cooler and happier it was the worse experience and was of money I ever spent. !! Never again and won't recommend it
The service here is mediocre at best, the food is just ok, and the facilities are average.
To start, we arrived to find only one robe in our room. After calling multiple times to the front desk, one finally arrived around 3 hours later. We dined at the hotel restaurant, where the server brought me the incorrect soup and incorrect wine. We then were quoted the incorrect price and incorrect time for breakfast the following day. On three separate occasions, I called the front desk and waited a few minutes while I rang with no answer. Also, the cable didn t work in the room but at that point I was tired of trying to make it work.
I guess you re paying for the view and nature, because the forest is gorgeous, the air is fresh, and on a clear day you can see the ocean from the deck. Please know, though, that you definitely aren t paying for the amenities or the service.
No one ever asked how our stay was going, so there was nowhere to provide feedback but here.
Stayed here for a friend's wedding. There are things to do in the he grounds - such as tennis, volleyball, and a great pool - as well as close by. As mentioned in other reviews, the walls are a bit thin but was never a problem.
Very nice location. Peaceful and calming relative to the noise and bustle of area and San Jose. Make sure you spend tiime on the property and try and relax.
I guess I was the only one to get food poisoning at the Thanksgiving $70 Buffet this Autumn? The first trays of food did not have their heating candles lit. Probably had been sitting out too long. I asked about the cold soup? And then I got very sick! Barely made it to the Gents! Doorman apologized, "Big changes coming, sorry."
A woman Asst Manager said they would send me a $70 credit, but nothing by mail, in weeks.
Jan2019: Restaurant and Kitchen closed for "major remodel" I was told. Santa Cruz County Public Health Dept woman said an inspection had turned up "only minor violations in the kitchen".
Called back and talked to the GM. Still no credit/refund for being one of the first to eat! Obviously the food wasn't kept warm enough! Had been a loyal customer for decades...
Nice rooms, the views were fantastic and the restaurant was great. They even have enforce their quiet times so you can relax without alot of noise from neighbors. They even provided a voucher for a free glass of wine. Will be back.
I would give it more stars because of its serene location but for the price, I was expecting a much better customer service experience. On the day we checked in, we were welcomed by a tray of dirty dishes right by our door, which were still there the next day. The room heater was not working, so the technician spent an hour in the attic right above our room and all the noise while he was flushing the tubes with water, was definitely not what I had in mind for my first hour in the room. We were there on Christmas Day, so we made reservations for the Christmas buffet for 5:45 pm but didn't get seated until 30 minutes after. And while we were waiting, we were to enjoy some warm apple cider but it had run out and there was no attempt to refill it. The spread was to put it mildly, not anywhere worth the $53.95 we paid per adult. We had to continually remind the servers that they had run out of clean plates, out of butter for the rolls, out of crackers for cheese, to name a few. The dessert area looked filthy with crumbs strewn around everywhere and the servers looked stressed and harried. Overall, very disappointed with the quality of the service and food. And to top it all, the folks that came after us, got seated before us and I had to literally glare at the check-in person to have us seated. They need to get their act together because whatever money they supposedly spent on renovations, will not compensate for the sub-par service.
Beautiful resort, built on eucalyptus mountain. Walking trails, disc golf, cornhole, horseshoes, tennis, pool, spa, and more. Comfy beds, shared patio area, nice tvs & sitting area. Parking was a little difficult, they do offer free valet. Didn't get a chance to try on-site restaurants, 2 to chose from. Overall wonderful experience!!
Resort by definition only. Trails overgrown and closed the 2 times I have stayed. Rooms are geographically separated into what looks like former camp quarters. The front desk is hike if you have a room in the upper range. Limited parking options. Rustic...not resort for the price. Resort fees are outrageous.
