This is a wanna be Spa that is attractive to the middle class. It is affordable...but not really worth it. Rooms were not cozy or comfortable...and service was not mentionable. I would stay there again if they comped me.

Horrible place! It has the feel of an old trailer home inside with a rushed finish. Loud hallways. Looks like it may have been nice back in the 50's which is funny because it is not that old. No views from rooms. Misleading marketing. Not worth the price at all. Not a 4 star at all, it is a 2 star at best. Save your money!!!! Also found a big wold spider in my towel! Gross!

The buffet used to be quite good. We have had two recent very poor experiences. One was at a wedding where we were served fish that was obviously several days old and was inedible.
Recently we attended a group buffet and for a price of $25 each was a total rip-off. The food was sub-par - dried up, unappetizing, some burnt, mostly meat so offered little for non-meat eaters, salad was limited to spinach with no other greens. There were not enough pitchers of water and only other options were lemonade that was undrinkable and iced tea. We had to ask several times to get more water. It was equal to a $10 Denny's buffet not a 4 star restaurant. Very disappointing given our past experiences with outrageous buffets with lots of choices.

Business travelers beware: they don't budge from the 72 hour cancelation policy. I booked a last minute reservation within the 72 hour period but my travel plans changed the next day. They wouldn't make an exception even though I booked only three days before my arrival. They wouldn't even issue a credit for a future stay! I'll happily pay more to stay at a Marriot or Hilton in the future who don't penalize you for un-expected travel changes.

Went for my wife's work offsite. The rooms were pretty nice, very nice size and stood out when we entered. However, we were on the 2nd floor and there was no elevator access at all. Not one to complain about taking the stairs, but when you have to unload/load by yourself with a baby, taking the stairs is rough and probably not doable for most. (Would this even be an ADA compliance issue?) We also noted that there was no hairdryer in the room. Other than that it was great. They had some great desserts, the food was eh..Ok, but that's what one would expect from buffet style I suppose. They have a couple trails around the facility which were pretty nice and they do have tennis courts and a pool.

No microwaves in the room and if you want one they charge you 15 bucks. I didn't like that the only options for the AC/Heater was Auto or off, at night I set the temperature to a nice cool 70 degrees and every time it got below that the heater kicked on and I woke up so hot with a dry throat every night so I had to turn the air condition way down tell it was almost too cold. I didn't think the room was anything special either the nightstand was a weird metal Barrel there was a picture of a sports car steering wheel in the bathroom and over the desk hung a giant School ruler. I kind of wish I take a picture of that stuff but I did get a couple angles of the room.
The room was clean and it wasn't a bad Hotel I just expected more for what they charge per room, online they make it look so luxurious I just felt like the room itself could have looked a little bit more luxurious. The pool is also kind of small and pretty average.

The lady who checked us in was nice. The room was very clean. We stayed in the second floor with a forest view. Our room was not cold even though it was freezing outside. Breakfast was good a bit pricey for self served at the restaurant. I LOVED the hiking trails. They have two and we did both. They have a little stream going down one of them. I would definitely come back here for the views and quietness. I do recommend you take your own pillow and if you get really cold like a thick blanket lol. Other than that i loved it.

FALSE ADVERTISING!!!! The property is under massive construction and we had no warning. We went for an overnight stay to celebrate my birthday 100% disappointing: :( No access to the restaurant, the outdoor spa was dirty and not working. Wine and cheese reception with no host although 3 concierges sat at the front lobby desk??? Get up!!! We self served our wine in plastic water cups and I don t mean faux wine glasses. Needless to say we checked in at 4:00 (an extremely late check in time!!) and checked out at 6:30 that night.....long drive home . DISSATISFIED AND DISAPPOINTED.

My husband and I began our honeymoon by staying at Chaminade Resort and Spa for our first two nights. We got a deal through Hotwire, but we still ended up paying more than twice what we normally would have for any hotel. We did that because we were anticipating staying at a superior quality hotel, but we were sadly mistaken. The room was not very big at all, with only room to walk around the bed. There was a dead spider on the wall of our room, and the curtains looked like someone had either spilled candlewax on them, or something else a little less kosher...The bathroom sink had calcium buildup on the faucet, and the ceiling looked like a poor do-it-yourself repair job--there was a big square cut out of the ceiling which was haphazardly puttied back into place. The walls between rooms were paper-thin, and due to that, we could hear our loud-talking neighbors past the time we wanted to go to bed and earlier than we wanted to wake up.
Despite the poor quality of our room, the staff was very friendly and prompt. We ate dinner there the first night, and the meal was delicious. We ordered room service breakfast that was delivered promptly. We did call to complain about our neighbors and within minutes there was a staff member knocking on their door to ask them to quiet down.
Overall, we would not recommend Chaminade, nor will we stay here again--especially not for that price. I would not rate this as a 4-star hotel, especially since we stayed at 3-star hotels that were far superior than this one.

My wife booked us a night here to get away on a weekend. At close to $500/night and a four stars rating, I was expecting a great time away. We arrived at the gorgeous, spectacular location. The valet attendants were very young kids who waved me to one place and then another before realizing that I would be driving to park where we were staying anyway. Seemed disorganized but cool that they employ kids for the Summer.
We checked-in, went to a room that was fine and immediately went to the pool. The pool area is small and was crowded. There were a couple of big events(wedding, bat mitzvah) so it was understandable. A couple of encounters with people in the pool seemed off. We had brought a small beach ball for our toddler and a man and his son had taken it and were throwing it back and forth to/at each other. No biggie. When we went to leave I asked for it back. The father was weird about it and make some snarky remark. So already, not feeling four stars. I stay about twenty percent of the year on business at mostly three star hotels.
We were only at the pool about forty minutes because it was dinner time. We went to leave and I realized that my prescription, titanium aviator sunglasses which were sitting on a poolside table about twenty feet away from us on the same side of the pool had been stolen. I immediately tried following-up and asking staff. They were helpful but not "four star" helpful. Most just sort of shrugged and acted as if they doubted what I was telling them.
So the stay started on a very sour note. We went to dinner. It was buffet but a very good buffet. The wait staff and bar staff for the two meals we had were exceptional. The views from the restaurant are incredible and the wide open grass area is perfect for little children.
So the place was mostly great but just never felt like other places where I've spent as much. I related the story to a friend who grew up in Santa Cruz. He'd had his wedding reception dinner there. But he let me know that Chaminade is well known in the Santa Cruz area as being a place that locals can just go crash. So enjoy the food and views but watch your stuff!
