We arrived after midnight having travelled a long haul flight that left us exhausted. The front staff were evasive about checking us into our room and kept offering us chocolates while they asked us to wait. My husband jokingly asked if they were trying to buy our patience with snacks and they admitted that there was no room for us as they had overbooked.

We had just flown for over 20 hours with two small children and were not impressed. They wanted to send us to a hotel across town in a taxi that had no car seats. I understand that the road rules allow children to travel by taxi without car restraints, but the laws of physics don't care much for road rules and neither do I.

To say we were furious is an understatement. We were repeat customers having stayed at an Affinia two years ago, never again. I had previously recommended the chain to friends visiting New York, but I will now be even more vocal in my recommendations that people do not use Affinia hotels.

The worst experience I have ever had in my life. First off this is not a 4 star hotel it looks like a 2 star once you pass the lobby and get in the broken down elevator to get in your outdated room that hasn t been cleaned properly.Found hair in tub and nail clippings in the carpet not to mention stains on pillows and sheets. Just as I thought things couldn t get any worse they did. Tried to get ice because there is no way to get ice other than room service to my surprise it took 3 hours to get. Went to sleep and was waken up by loud knocking and yelling at my door even though I had the do not disturb sign up. It was the hotel bellman and night manager screaming at me telling me that I m smoking in the room and your gonna be charged $500 a night for smoking even though there was no signs of smoke and nothing in my room smelled like smoke at all. I couldn t believe that this was happening all on the first day and decided that me and my wife could not stay there any longer. We had reserved 5 nights and left after 1. If you are looking to get this hotel stop yourself now and get anything else !!! You will regret this hotel!!

Nice sized room, especially for NYC. I asked for an accessable room and got it, but if you have issues getting in and out of high beds, beware - this bed is awfully high! Props to Dennis, the concierge. He was great.

I stayed here with my children on Saturday Nov 23rd. Hotel was great. I had an issue I realized after check out and the Housekeeper and the Rooms director took care of it for me as fast and as well as possible, they really went above and beyond. Absolute life savers. Hotel was fantastic, service was fantastic and their people are absolutely top notch. Will definitely be staying here again. Huge room for the money in a fantastic location.

Good hotel, good location, only that our room window was facing 37th st. and it was a bit noisy. also the cleaning staff was always chatting in the hallway.. a bit disturbing.. The rooms need to improve sound-proof.

We arrived at the hotel and was pleasantly greeted by Michelle who checked us in. Our hotel room had a seal on the door indicating it was cleaned. Our one bedroom suite had a living room, separate bedroom and kitchen area. The view in the bedroom was that of Chrysler building. As we were leaving for dinner we joked with Michelle about having wine and cheese in our room. Upon return to our room, there was a bottle of wine with a lovely note. What a pleasant surprise. We truly enjoyed our visit.

I've got to give this place 5 stars. It was totally deserving on my trip.

We were treated like royalty while we were there. Very Friendly Staff! Extra large and clean room.

Whatever I needed, I'd call downstairs and it would be brought up immediately.

Housekeeping kept our room spotless. I had a great view of the Empire State Building. So beautiful to see at night.

When I was making my reservations, the nice lady worked with me to get me the best rate possible. Our bedroom was very large and it was so nice having the extra room (den) with couch, TV, computer workspace, etc. The Suites are definitely the way to go.

Great location in NY. About 4-5 blocks from Grand Central Station.

I can't wait to come again. I hated leaving!!

This hotel is just Ok . The people aren t overly friendly but it gets the job done in a good location. I had to call about 5 times to get my reservation finalized, the website didnt work well. The air in my room was on full blast and it never really got cool (October visit), no ice machines, mediocre toiletries available, and I found the beds uncomfortable. This is all manageable but then if you want a water- it costs $9.80 for a liter. Thanks shelburne!!

Very clean and well kept room, friendly staff who were very helpful when asked about the area and close to everything. Only thing that kept it at 4 stars was that we didn't use any amenities so I'm sure the hotel has more to offer. Would recommend though.

Very disappointed and disrespected. We booked the hotel for an anniversary since it was walking distance to the empire state building. They say when you book they will do everything they can to accommodate. DONT BELIEVE THEM. all I asked for was a view of the empire state building. The first room view was of a wall. We were given another room that faced the esb. The windows were so dirty we left the shade down. (Picture) Even the $75.00 upgrade did not guarantee esb view.
The amenities are a scam.
*The rooftop bar was closed
*The wine hour is what ever wine they want to serve
* the $10.00 credit, to offset the $35.00 extra charge enables you to drinks in the lobby. Its a little refrigerator in the lobby, $5.00 for a 8oz coke. $8.00 for a beer.
* the bar is a lease and isn't affiliated with the hotel.
* morning coffee is located in the bar, which is $3.00 cup.
The $35.00 EXTRA CHARGE is better spent on Uber and stay elsewhere.
I hope this is helpful

How does this hotel get a rating of 4? Don't get it. It's like walking into an apartment building that is completely outdated. Floors creak. I sat on someone's lipstick and crumbs conveniently located on the desk chair. Room smelled liked old clothes. Seriously dated. Have a 2 night stay - will be checking out early.

I wish we could post pictures to show you how disgusting this hotel is, and this is even after getting upgraded. They don t wash their comforters, or the walls of the shower, or cabinets. Looked like a snot nosed kid rubbed their dirty hands all over the furniture. Even found someone s stems from marijuana in the window seal!

Two: walls are paper thin, we could hear someone turning on a faucet as if it were coming from our own bathroom at least every 10min. Carpet was old hard, and stained, with a people s hard candy stuck on it. It s apparent they don t keep up with their rooms.

Three: Besides that, customer service was horrible. Was woke up at midnight threatening me to call the cops bc they assumed we were smoking cigarettes? (Probably bc we were the only minorities in our hall) whatever reason even when inviting them in to smell our room for there was no smoke or smell of that matter; they refused and told us they were charging us $1000 smoking fees. ALSO while checking in front desk told us we could upgrade to a spa bath (not a bath, don t do it) for $50 we accepted and was charged $250!

My assumption is our neighbors were smoking but would be hard to identify which one with the six doors/rooms so close in fascenity.

We check out 4 days/3 nights early. Will never be back, this hotel is equivalent to 3 star hotels I ve seen, and they will try to get more money out of you, guess for cleaning and repairs seeing the hotel needs so much.

These people are crooks! If you want to risk it and your pockets go for it! Best of luck to you all

(Btw found really nice airbnb same location, cheaper, more amenities) wish I would of made this decisions before walking all our luggage around town mid vacation)

From the minute we arrived we were greeeted, given help with our bags, and the car went through valet parking. Check in was easy and the front desk was helpful with giving tips for nearby attractions and restaurants. The room looked newly updated, clean and smelled fresh. We had a great view of the city on the 11th floor. The daily wine event in the lounge is nice and the $10 credit at the Cupboard was nice as well for snacks. I would stay here with family again.

Great location and very clean. Our room was not as fancy as the photos online but very nice. However, there was no place to hang up a wet towel except for inside of the shower stall - there was not even a hook on the back of the door. Also, no creamer for the coffee maker. You got a $10 credit to use in their "pantry" but a bottle of Smart Water was $9.80. Not much of a bonus. The restaurant downstairs had great service and yummy food.

Rooms were fine but service was a but lacking. Lots of confusion when checking in and some less than helpful encounters with the front desk attendants. Rooftop bar has amazing views but the bar itself was closed often throughout our stay without warning. Great location and competitive pricing.

Great location on Lexington Ave just a few blocks south of grand central station n a short stroll from 5th Avenue. Very pleasant rooms with bathrooms and in some cases mini kitchens. Comfortable beds n bedding. Good value for money, helpful and friendly staff. Pet friendly. Good food in the adjacent bar and grill with plenty of alternative choices nearby, including a good diner on Lexington. Seasonal roof terrace bar. Good wifi etc. Wine tasting sessions in the lobby. Concierge are happy to arrange a town car for the airport if required but yellow cabs also easily available 24/7.

We had a lovely stay at this hotel and were pleasantly surprised by the size of our room which was clean and comfortable. The location is fantastic and walking distance to so many iconic New York places to see. Our favourite person at the Shelburne is Denis (the Menace!) the doorman. He was friendly, so kind and if you want to know anything about New York - he is your guy!

I give this hotel 3 & 1/2 stars but since this isnt an option i'll give them the benefit of the doubt with 4 stars. The hotel was pretty clean, the staff was friendly and it has a cool vibe in the lobby. The rooms weren't bad and were in fact big for NYC. They had a really nice little kitchen area with a microwave and a fridge that we didn't use. I thought the bathroom could have been a lot nicer and cleaner. You could see dust and dirt around the mirror in the bathroom and the bathtub looked a little sketchy. I didn't feel like it was a true 4 star hotel. I would stay here again but I wouldn't go out of my way to.

Stayed her for a few days. Room was nice and clean. Staff was pleasant. Only negative thing I have to say is the "amenities fee" . Which really pushes people to stay with Airbnb. Had a discussion with the manager about it and understand most hotels in nyc charge this. Puts him in an akward position. I feel like it's a little "hustle". Trying to get more out of a room by charging this to a customer. Secretly adding it onto the tab seems a little "shady" and it is. I didn't have a problem with the original price, but I was comparing the prices to Airbnb. Adding that fee would have priced them out of Airbnb pricing. And I wouldn't have stayed here. So you got me. Saying that. Hotel was fine, good location in midtown. But problably won't stay here again.

There are a few negative surprises with this hotel. I'm not saying you shouldn't stay here - it's clean and professional, and well located, but you should be aware of a few important points before booking.

Firstly, when you book on their own website, you get "free wifi". It's only when you arrive that they tell you it's only for one device. I pushed, and they agreed to extend this to 4, but you may not be so lucky.

Secondly, this is an old hotel that has been refurbished. They've done some great photography on their website, so it all looks so lovely and new, and some parts are, but generally it's got a bit of a daggy feel about it and could be better laid-out. Come expecting this, and you'll be fine.

Thirdly, we booked a room with a "kitchen". Whilst this includes an oven, fridge, sink, etc., there are no utensils! No knives, forks or spoons. No plates or bowls. Nothing to cook in or with. It seems counter-intuitive to me, to offer a kitchen but then none of the stuff that comes with a kitchen. Once again, I rang reception and they have sent up some items to use, but you should be aware that this might be a problem for you.

In closing, I don't mean this to be a negative review. We have enjoyed staying at this hotel, and its location is excellent. Just don't have too high expectations and you'll be fine.

I stayed at this Hotel with my Granddaughter beginning of March for 4 nights and I couldn't have chosen a better Hotel . The service from the staff, the spacious bedroom, the cleanliness and a very convenient location, walking distance to Time Square. Brilliant.

Comfy beds and blankets, fluffy pillows, lots of desk space in the hotel room. Shower has no shower curtain, so only one person can use the bathroom at a time if someone is showering (this isn't a problem if you're with a significant other, but with colleagues it's not ideal).
During my visit the gym was out of service, but I was able to go to the Gramercy Equinox instead, about a 15 minute walk south.
We had a nice view of the Empire State Building from our room, and the location is good. It's a close enough walk to plenty of restaurants and even Times Square is reasonable.

The hotel is clean and looks great. The room and bathroom are both spacious. I'm staying with three other people and it does not feel crowded. Location is close Grand Central terminal and getting anywhere is a breeze. The walk to Time Square and Broadway is roughly thirty minutes, so also not too bad. The price for the room and location is a deal.

We have stayed at this hotel about 6 times. Until recently our stays have been pleasant except for long waits for the elevator if the hotel is busy. In early December (2015), I again was doing business in NYC and stayed at the hotel. My business took longer than expected and I needed to stay an additional night and called the front desk about 7am to reserve my room for another night. Accommodations were confirmed. Upon returning to the hotel that evening I could not access my room. I went to the front desk and explained my situation. In short, after almost 40 min of computer work and talking with the manager I was told that they had missed my extension and had rented the room. I asked wher my clothes, medicines, toiletries and computer were. They had my toiletries and medicine, but had left my clothing and computer in the room. The manager Tom me up to claim my belongings. There were already someone else's belongings in the room. The only problem is my computer was missing. They were never able to locate it during my stay. A week later I returned and followed up with the manager to no avail. He said the hotel insurance company would be notified and get in touch. Still no communication as of February 15thq. Have left two messages for management with no return call. This is highly unprofessional treatment of a hotel guest. It's quite a dissapointment.

If I were you, I would stay at any other hotel in the city. I traveled into the city from NJ to attend a wedding for a buddy I had served in the military with. Over the course of the evening on my journey back to this hotel I had lost my phone. I used the hotel phone to call family members whose numbers I have memorized to try and track the lost iPhone, as well as get ahold of my buddies to see if they had any clue about it. I called my sister who was able to find a train schedule and navigate me to Penn I noted everything down and began my journey, not thinking anything of it until the charges started coming in on my credit card. Because I was dialing cell phone numbers and not numbers in the 5 boroughs they were charging me long distance. They gouged me over $300 on phone calls. Obviously if I was aware that they were such criminals with their phones I would have rather gone out to the streets and found someone who would let me borrow their phone. I just got off with the phone with some manager whose name was Eker or something like that who sat in silence as I pleaded my frustrations, said the best he could do was take $100 off the bill. Wow Sir you are a life saver!! If you couldn t sense the satire... it s f*cking 2019 and you re gonna price gouge someone like that? I wasn t calling China for Christ s sake . I would never stay at this hotel or any of their affiliates ever again and I suggest you do the same. If I could give them no stars or negative stars I would.

Terrible hotel TV choices. The TV is locked so that you can only watch on-demand overpriced movies. Good luck casting your device and watching netflix YouTube or Hulu. Locking my entertainment choices is an instant 1 star review from me.

Room was big and clean and staff was nice and the rooftop is nice but beware of the feels. They will tell you when you book your reservation but when you get there they have 2 separate resort fess and they charge you 2 different taxes all in all we paid $208 for a $152 Room after all the taxes and fees expedia said the room total would be $183 when I booked it. So be conscious of the fees before you check in because they are not upfront about them.
