This set of rooms screams suite at the cost of a regular hotel room. The ability to entertain work colleagues during the day and have a romantic evening without needing to upend the same room is lunge finding heaven early in life.

If you are looking for a affordable hotel this one is not it, on top of the room price they charge you around $50 extra pre night as service fees. On top of that, they give you $10 credit at the lobby refrigerator where one bottle of $2 water costs $10. The rooms were like the typical 3 star hotel you would get for $50 else where.

This was our third visit to the Shelburne over the last 4 years. First time we stayed 6 nights, the second 10 and this time 4 (late May 2016). We have always stayed in a one bedroom which we find easily large enough for the family (my wife with our 2 kids ages 8 and 11). The kids take up the sofa bed in the lounge.

At each of our stays, the rooms have always been clean and well appointed. The one bedrooms that we have stayed in have always had a view of the Empire State which is a nice touch, particularly if you are a first time visitor to NYC. The roof bar is also a nice spot for a drink but with kids we have only had the opportunity to visit once.
The hotel is also in easy walking distance to Grand Central, Times Square, the Empire State etc. and only a block or so from our favourite breakfast stop in NYC (Scotty s Diner).

However, service is where the Shelburne shines through.

Perhaps the best way of communicating the exemplary level of service at the Shelburne is to tell you about the events of our last day. We had checked out and arranged for our luggage to be stored. Unfortunately, we do not travel light having a trolley full of luggage (about 15 items of varying sizes all told). Having spent a day sight-seeing, we returned to the Shelburne about 5pm. We arranged for our trolley to be brought out while the hotel s doorman hailed a large cab.

During the loading into the cab (and through no fault of the doorman) we left behind a small suitcase which we had pulled off the trolley in order to pack more things. We then proceeded to Penn Station blissfully unware that the bag had been left behind.

After a short 10 to 15 minute cab ride (it was peak hour) we were dropped off at Penn and we were arranging for a trolley to take our things down to the station still unware of the left behind bag. Just as we were about to move into the station we heard our names being called from the street and turned around to see Chiran from the Shelburne. Chiran, who was aware we were heading to Penn, had noticed we had left behind our bag, and had hopped in a car to drive to Penn to deliver it before we boarded our train.

So thanks to Chiran and the Shelburne for not only a nice place to stay when we are in NYC, but also for the proactive manner in which you saved us from leaving a bag behind. Chiran s quick thinking actions and service was certainly above and beyond what I would have expected.

We can t recommend the Shelburne highly enough.

Hotel is OK, but not much more. Had an interesting view from my window (see pictures), but this is likely better from pricier rooms (at least I hope). Nevertheless, the room was clean and spacey, something which is quite rare in NY.

Room had a strange odor and we were unable to turn the a/c on so were uncomfortably hot. We didn't have time to complain as we merely checked in, went out for evening and slept, albeit uncomfortably hot.

This is a very nice, small NYC hotel, convenient to Grand Central. The room we had was large and included a kitchenette. We had a partial view of the Empire State Bldg. Not super fancy, but clean and a good price.

I think the hotel offers good value for money, but the resort fee is quite annoying, 30 USD plus tax to have services that are included in the standard rate of most of the hotels, such as in room internet connection or a litter of water from the vending machines. Nevertheless in this area is still a budget hotel, clean and comfortable.

Rooms need remodeled, food was ok, room did not have wash cloths. Then it took 45 mins for room service to bring wash cloths so I can take a shower. I had to call 3x for someone to bring a wash cloth. Also, there was no room service menu; so then I hate to wait again for someone to come up.

Room was clean and staff was friendly. During the winter they don't turn the AC on in the rooms and my room was really musky and hot when we first entered. After I opened the window it cooled down and it was much more pleasant. Overall I enjoyed my stay.

I had an amazing experience at the hotel this week. All staff were friendly and always seemed to be happy. Denis the doorman was really helpful and he also wears a sweet hat. The price is amazing for the room quality and the service that I received. Thanks!

Coming to New York for the first time, on business...

Coming to New York for the first time, on business, I was overwhelmed by the hotel options available to me. The Shelburne popped out as a perfect location in my budget, and I wasn't let down. Less than 5 minutes away from 5th Ave, and only a 15 walk to Times Square/Broadway, it met all of my tourist needs. The rooms were clean and updated. The beds were firm but comfy. I did find the pillows to be a little soft and shapeless, but not soon after I stumbled across a "pillow menu" to find one that fit me perfectly. I noticed some signs age in the washroom, some staining on the walls and dirty grouting. But nothing that would stop me from staying here again, or recommending the Shelburne to anyone traveling here.

We enjoyed everything about our stay. The staff was great, the room was clean and big with two queen beds (hard to find), the location was convenient and relatively quiet for NYC, the rooftop bar was a great place to hang out, neighborhood restaurants were good (Bagel Express, Librettos Pizza, Sarges Deli) and the price was great (even including the daily fee which every hotel I looked at charged). I would definitely stay here again.

Good location, but uneven quality. The rooms are large and most have a small kitchen which is great if you have children. But I've had problems with the housekeeping--have to ask them to come back to clean bathroom, or replace pillows. But the management is usually responsive and the rates are good.

This hotel was outstanding. Great location, friendly staff, comfortable room. It was my boyfriends 30th birthday & they went above expectations to help me set the room up with champagne & balloons before we arrived.

My husband and I stayed here on November last year for Black Friday sales. Hotel was clean, staff were friendly, rooms were big and bed comfy, great location easy reach for all attractions, bar was expensive.

On the whole it looked a good deal as you got 10 dollars free daily for a tuck shop, and free wine every day from 4pm - 5pm It should be noted that you were charged a facility fee as well as taxed on your supposed free daily 10 dollars.

I got a room from HT for $105, which seemed to be a good deal, on surface.

Once I checked in, my room was dark, furnishings looked dated, windows faced walls and back alleys. Rather depressing.

Staff apparently lacked listening skills.

Personally, I'd pay a little more to stay at the Tuscany, where I could spread out and enjoy the view.

Nice luxury place to spend a night at new York, the suite was more like an apartment, really loved it. Plus they gave me a ten dollar card to purchase water or anything from them. Amazing it was, all attractions of new York in vicinity, use good maps per my recommendation

Poor shape of furniture and cleanliness of the hotel. Not even close to an European 4 star hotel. Rude employees and to put it in plain fact: due to am error in the system they could not see the payment although they had retained the money from the card. After 4 days of stay while checking my account balance I have observed the problem amd told the guys from the reception to check it. In the evening when we got back found ourselves at 11 pm on a Sunday with cancelled entry cards and with a night manager almost yellong at us like a policemen while his only solution was to leave us to sleep in the streets. Only after his collegues convinced him to find a solution he agreed to retain our passport in order to let us in. Of course second day they found that it was their problem. Conclusion definitely not a four star hotel, shitty services and rude employees

Honestly the african American doorman made our stay! He was soo nice and helpful, all of his recommendation were on point, I really wish I remembered his name but he is definitely an assist for this hotel! There was construction the weekend I came but wasn't too disruptive. Decent location if you don't mind a little walk! The rooms are a good size and very clean.

The staff at the hotel ranged considerably. Some were helpful and friendly, others seemed indifferent. Upon arrival into our room, it was clear that the room had not been cleaned well. There were crumbs on the kitchen floor and carpet. Some of the furniture looked updated while other pieces were clearly in need of replacement. For example, the couch and chair had large stains on them. The bathroom drain was very slow which was gross since 1 minute into a shower the water was several inches high. AND THEN THERE IS THE COCKROACH! We found a 2-inch, lively cockroach in our bathroom. When we called to complain, the maintenance and front desk staff seemed indifferent. Overall, this hotel was way overpriced given the lack of quality and cleanliness. Will never stay here again.

I wish I can give a ZERO star. They are VERY rude to customers. They always say I told you or I asked you , which they did not. They should have learnt how to communicate with people. They have no patience. If you do not want your whole day to be ruined, do not choose this hotel.

Mandatory 35$ "service fee" you have to pay to actually use whats in the hotel besides your room that they don't tell you about when you book. But don't worry, it comes with $10 credit at the lobby mini bar that you aren't allowed to use your last day there, something they also fail to mention when you check in

My stay in the hotel was ok. But when leaving the hotel the personnel was ready to call a taxi for me. The taxi (T477538C9) was fine, but with no taximeter and no receipt was available. The payment was high and only cash was accepted. I wonder if this kind of service is consistent with the values of the hotel.

Clean and comfortable. We found the bathroom very small. It was in a great location, close to alot of attractions. Our room was only cleaned once during our stay. When we mentioned that it hadnt been cleaned we were told they only cleaned if we requested it, which we were not told when we checked in. We won this trip to NY with all exspences paid, we only needed money for food and spending, however upon checking out we were charged a Hidden fee of $87. This was a so called 'Hotel facilities fee'. Im Not impressed with hidden fees. When we questioned it the staff member became quite stroppy.

Really clean, hotel service was very kind and polite. Despite the noise of cars honking and night-goers, there are actually ear plugs in the drawers! The only real issue we had was when our valet took about an hour. We called twice from our room because our cart didn't arrive until about 30 minutes later. We had to once for the valet and talk twice to the hotel service in the lobby because we were waiting for quite some time. Regardless, the facilities and room amenities were satisfactory.
