Beautiful location, thankful for the shuttle they offer to the boardwalk. Room was clean, and view was awesome.

Beautiful location, thankful for the shuttle they offer to the boardwalk. Room was clean, and view was awesome.
View was fantastic! However, cleaning service, they did not change sheets. I stayed four nights, also there was a HUGE cocker roach in the room and had to have exterminators come to the room
Stayed at the Wyndham Virginia Beach Oceanfront for a meeting I was attending. The hotel was OK, but not particularly noteworthy. Probably the best thing the hotel has going for it is its reasonable rates. But that comes at a cost. The hotel is about 2 miles north of the boardwalk and main beach activity. Other than the Surf Club Ocean Grille restaurant in the hotel, nothing else is within walking distance.
Although this is an older hotel, it has recently been updated. The carpet in the rooms and halls looks relatively new. The room furnishings are of a contemporary design, look fairly new and are in good condition. The bed was very comfortable and I slept well. Particularly nice was the fact that the hot water was really hot.
There were a number of things that I thought the hotel could do much better. Although my room was clean, the hallways weren t. I stayed four nights and the hallways were not vacuumed once. When I came back one night, someone had been in the utility room next to my room and there was debris on the carpet outside of my room which was never vacuumed up.
Other things show that the hotel staff aren t paying attention to the condition of their property. The utility sink in the room is where people would dump coffee. The drain has significant buildup of coffee residue. It would only take a Scotch-Brite or a rag and some S.O.S. cleaner to make it sparkling clean. The caulking around the bath tub could use cleaning or replacing.
Finally, in the hallway the hems on some of the curtains are falling out. It looks sloppy and gives the impression that the hotel cares little on how the property looks to its guests.
Paying a little more attention to the details at this hotel would make this property look better and show that the owners and management care about its appearance.
This is a really nice hotel. They are pet friendly and very accommodating. We got moved to a better room as soon as we arrived due to unexpected water outages. The rooms are really nice and clean and the beds are amazingly comfy. Plus there's a really nice view of the beach and ocean waters. They also have an indoor and outdoor pool and a hot tub.
This hotel strives to please all of their guests!
Thanksgiving buffet was excellent. Seafood, bananas foster, etc. great selection.
Didnt have complimentary breakfast.
For all the money you spend.
I attended a prom there and was pleased by the room we were in. There was plenty of room and very well kept.
Cockroaches and bedbugs in the room. It was $135 with very outdated decor and wasn't very clean. We requested a refund at 10:30pm and the employee at the desk was wonderful. That and the view from the room were the only positives.
Great location, friendly staff, super comfy bed and linens. Dogs were out if control...barking at 4am, 6am, all hours of the day constant so much so that even as dog people traveling with dogs it was unbearable by the second morning as we have two older large quiet dogs. Bar/cafe staff was awesome! Parking was super convenient and free.
Me and my family went their for a four day vacation they view was amazing but they state that they have high speed internet in all rooms but that was not the case. Only one of our computers work in our room and their was no Ethernet input or cable with the room so none of our phones would work at all. If you wanted wifi you would have to go down to the 2nd floor and even when you were their it was not very good. The restaurant that they had was good but too expensive for the quality and amount of food you receive. the pools were nice both indoor and outdoor with a Jacuzzi in the indoor pool. Overall I would go back just for the price, view and beach
Worst hotel stay ever. Very dirty ceiling falling down no shower curtain had to repeatedly ask for clean towels and for them to sweep the floor. Hotel staff are rude and not helpful at all. Don t waste your money on this run down hotel. Go a few minutes down the road and get a nicer hotel that is close to the boardwalk. Literally the worst hotel.
Old and dirty rooms and inattentive staff. STAY AWAY!
Basic rooms, small pool bit nicely heated, renovations going on everywhere. We also had like five fire alarms go off in the matter of a couple hours one of which we had to stand outside, with a two year old, for am hour or so while fire dept checked building. Not the worst hotel, but So many little things could be done to make it better.
Had a wonderful experience from beginning to end. The customer service was excellent and the rooms were very clean. Very impressed.
So the reviews I read were very true about this hotel. My family and I drove 3.5 hours to this hotel. Upon arriving early, I decided to see if the room was ready it was not. We milled around for a few hours and then returned after 4pm to check-in (Check-in is at 4pm). First, the line to check-in was long with many people like myself returning to check on the status of our room. Too my disappointment the room was still not ready (this was now 4:40 pm). The young lady waiting on us was clearly as frustrated as we were. She tried to tell us well its not an hour past 4pm yet, to which I reminded her that their policy not ours stated we could check-in at 4pm. We did not gain access to our room until after 5pm.
As we settled in for the evening, my husband and I wanted some private time and attempted to close to door to the master bedroom in the suite. It would not close thus we lost our privacy. We called the front desk and maintenance arrived right away however, he was unable to fix the door even with my husband's help (the gentleman was by himself and asked if my husband could assist him). He called the manager and suggested we get an additional discount. The manager said he would have to call the corporate office but would send someone up that morning (a team) to fix it. To this we said fine.
The next evening when we returned to the room, the door was not fixed. We called to complain again but to no avail and of course, the manager never followed up. At this point we just chucked it up as a wash since we were leaving the next day. The next morning they called at 10 am to say they were sending someone up. We told them we would be checking out soon and they could wait until then. Clearly, we felt they failed us. Other things, the rooms despearately need to be updated. There were places were the wallpaper was coming down. The shower kept making noise like it was going to fall apart, even at one point the balcony door was stuck. Also, when we booked they claim the room came with 1 king and 2 queens. It was more 1 queen and 2 full/double beds.
Only true redeeming quality is that the beach is steps away in a part of Virginia Beach that is not overly crowded because it is away from the boardwalk. I am very disappointed in this Wyndham and my overall experience. Unless there are some drastic renovations and retraining of staff, I will not be staying in this hotel again.
2nd visit this summer. Getting ready to go again. People complain all the time about the hotel. We've never had a problem. If you kind to people it is given back.
This hotel is located on the beach and has a great view of the ocean. Being able to walk out of the hotel and onto the beach was super convenient. It is off the boardwalk so you need to travel by car to visit the boardwalk destinations. There are no restaurants within walking distance of the hotel so luckily the hotel's restaurant has a nice selection. The rooms are a nice size but a bit outdated. Every room has a balcony here which is nice. The price of rooms was a lot more reasonable than other hotels in the area.
I loved the fact that it's ocean front. Very kind and friendly staff. I didn't like the old a/c unit and the smells they emit. They need to update them or clean them or something. The hallways were very hot, muggy and musty smelling. Old carpeting that also didn't help the smells. No microwave in the rooms. You have to go to the second floor to heat up any food.
Nice, but very old & not near or on the boardwalk. Located in a very nice neighborhood. However, you must drive to everything.
We just arrived tonight. The tub water does not drain, the sheets and comforter on both beds has sand and hair all over it as if they weren't even washed. There were fingerprints all over things that should have been cleaned (balcony door handle). The carpets in hallways are fill of spots and spills, there was a pair of swim trunks in the foyer and a Kleenex, the garbage were all full and had not been emptied. I brought my wife to treat her and she actually had to be convinced not to sleep in the car tonight. I'm tragically unhappy and so is she.
I would not recommend staying here. I know I never will again. One reason is false advertising. They offer a hot tub but all it is a separate are with Luke warm water in it. Second reason is the cleaning staff sucks. They were literally in my room 10 minutes. They swept up the sand off the bathroom floor ran the sweeper and gave us fresh towels. That's it. Did not clean a thing or even make up our beds. We just happened to be in the room for lunch that is how I know all this. Place appears to be very run down. DO NOT STAY HERE!! Add to previous post. Third day here and nobody even bothered to clean out room.
For this place could use a remodel. Need to be more cleaner than
This a mid stay review. The arrival was OK though it was immediately obvious that the hotel need renovation badly. It is true about public areas and definitely our room. Torn chairs, not wipe balcony furniture etc. But that is minor in comparison with the next day. Decided to walk downtown but wanted the hotel shuttle for the return. Was told exactly where and when to be there. After 15 min of waiting (it takes 5 min for the shuttle to get from the hotel) called the hotel and told them where I was standing and they confirmed the location and the said that the shuttle left and should be there any minute. Another call and another , more elaborate confirmation of the location and again no result. After 1 HR , finally connected with the driver and we
Who lead me on the phone to the right location. Manager was sorry about it ( that 3 or 4 different people in her "team" have no idea where the pick up spot is and even worse that they do not know that they do not know.
After this experience I walked into my room at almost 4 PM and room is not made up. Should I say that the manager was sorry - yes , and explanation was it is taking them longer .
Recommendation- do Not stay there. Will say more after another 24 hrs.
I liked the room but it was nearly impossible to get towels the room never got done so the trash build up . still had a nice time
First off- I feel deceived. They say ocean front, which it is- they also say boardwalk- which it isn't.
It's 20 blocks to the boardwalk from this hotel! I thought Wyndham were nice hotels- I was very wrong. The room was small and dirty, had electrical issues, the lamps kept turning off randomly, the TV, microwave and mini fridge kept turning off randomly, the smoke detector was hanging by it's wires, the ceiling had water damage and was falling in, there was mold growing on the bathroom wall. When we arrived there was a lady yelling at the front desk manager about her room not having AC, the hallway not having AC and the elevators not working. YEP, should have known right there. We did have AC in the room, but the hallway was almost 90 degrees, and the elevators did not work- and that was a pain to take your luggage up the steps. When we got to the room only one of the room cards worked. The beds were very uncomfortable, there was sand IN the bed (I hope they changed the sheets!) and again it was very small, unlike most of the pictures that you see. The hotel was very old and not very well maintained for it's age. The carpet in the room may have been the original, it felt very dirty, and smelled kinda funny too. Let's see, oh yes, we went through many towels because the show curtain was too short and all your water ran outside the shower! So we had to keep it sopped up. For the price I paid, the service we got, and it's location, plus the cleanliness of the hotel I highly do NOT recommend this place. Next time I'll stay somewhere else!
Not one area of this hotel was clean trash all over the hall floors and elevators. Our room was filthy stained walls and carpet. Also was awoken to the fire alarm going off and evacuated at 1 am because someone pulled the alarm. This hotel is also away from the boardwalk in the residential area of Atlantic Ave.
I dont normally do negative reviews but this was a little overboard.
Sink leaked the whole time. Let the front desk know. Repairman did come quickly but told us that most of faucets were like that. What a waste of water! Not eco friendly at all.
The hallways needed some attention(wallpaper peeling) and we had to walk on a wet carpet which was definitely a water leak next to the electrical room!!!
The housekeeping left a pile of sheets along with their cart in middle of hallway all morning. I would have looked past it had they not left it there all morning so had to step over them multiple times.
All of this was ok with us as we are not picky. But the last straw was a huge clump of hair on the bathroom floor. Would have normally overlooked this as maybe the housekeeping didnt see it or missed it. But during covid you would think the cleaning of the room would have been top priority.
We are usually very understanding but all of this combined made for a very unpleasant experience.
I wish I would have talked about the beach view but that was not the biggest memory we have now. The clump of hair was talked about alot. Not the view.
Staff was friendly but overall this place is a dump. Everything seemed okay our first night until I woke up and saw the mother of all roaches! I checked out immediately and they promised me that I would have a refund back within 30 minutes... 3 days later and still no refund!
Second visit in 2 years and don't think we'll be back. Love the ocean view rooms but room was dirty and unclean when we checked in. Dirty foot prints in the tub, unmopped floors and dusty surfaces. Our room wasn't cleaned once, even when we requested. Both pools were closed when we arrived but supervisor was really nice and helpful. Restaurant is great, food is divine.
A wonderful hotel!! We always stay here when we're in VA beach and every time it has been a great place to stay. Clean rooms, comfortable beds, a wonderful pool AND it's right on the beach! I couldn't ask for more.
The Wyndham Virginia Beach was a lovely place to stay. Decent prices for a nice Ocean View room. Excelent service and great staff.
Nice place! Great beachfront! Nice staff! Away from the beach crowds, off by itself! Great places to walk too! A wonderful option in VAB!
First if you can accept that this is an older hotel that's seen better days and can use better matinence (minus 1 star) you'll find that it's actually redeemed a lot by being located in on the north end of the beach meaning far fewer crowds. What you shouldn't accept is the poor front desk staff. Just because they only partially know what they're doing doesn't mean they should be rude. I have showed up at 3am at hotels and received fantastic service but their tone indicated 10:40 in the morning seemed to be an inconvenience for which I should apologize.
Staff was very friendly but the cleanliness of the room leaves something to be desired. Someone needs to check behind the cleaning staff. At least clean the toothpaste splatter off the mirror!
Very run down. Room did not have a phone. Front desk said we didn t have blankets because they ran out. There were no pillowcases. No hot water in the shower. Fridge didn t get that cold. Lights flickered. Need I say more?
We are members and can't get parking here. Great location, questioning the management.
Hey, this is great! The service is nice , locationis awesome!
My wife and I stayed at this hotel in August, 2019 for three days. First, the single positive point: Our room deck, facing the ocean, though small, was wonderful, with a great view of the beach and the night sky. I imagine most of the other decks are of the same quality, but make sure to get a room as high up as you can. Our room was on the ninth floor. Now the negative points: The first thing that we noticed when we walked into our room was an iron hanging on the wall near the front door. This hotel is in dire need of renovation, and seems not to have been updated since the 70s or 80s. The bathroom was pitiful with an old shower curtain but with clean but antiquated wallpaper, the furniture in the room had clearly not been replaced in decades, the carpeting was dirty and stained, no bedspread was furnished for our two Queensize beds, only two cups and an inadequate supply of coffee was provided for the room, the elevators looked like freight elevators used for commercial deliveries, the section of the parking lot where we parked our car (near the entrance to the hotel) was adjacent to the garbage disposal unit and smelled disgusting each time we walked by, the metal overlays on the steps leading to the main entrance of the hotel were loose and clanked every time we stepped over them (you'd think the hotel staff could fix something as minor as this), and the hotel restaurant (the Surf Club Ocean Grille) had terrible food and, worse than that, every time the waitors walked from table to table to collect the used dishes they would throw them into a bin, of which, never in my life have I ever heard such clanking of dishes in a restaurant (if you must eat there, MAKE SURE to get an outside table). Needless to say, my wife and I will never stay in this hotel again, though the one thing we will miss is the wonderful outside deck.
This hotel has spacious rooms. The oceanfront room we got was amazing. The beach is really nice. The only downside is the 1 mile walk/drive to the main city center.
Very disappointed, room was dirty upon arrival, shower drain stopped up, leak in bathroom ceiling, beds weren't dressed properly, my friend bed was made with the sheet on top of the comforter nor was there one underneath the comforter, my bed had only 2 sheets on it thats it ! NO HEAT AT ALL in the room. We complained and the man fixed the tub but told us he was getting a new unit for our room and never came back. The phone in the room doesn t work at all ! So we used our phones to call in a complaint ended up calling 4 times we were told every time that someone is on the way and no one ever came back. Terrible service. I do not recommend!!
Horrid. Disgusting. Multiple floors reeked of urine. No shower curtain in first room. Public hair in toilet. Sticky bathroom floor. Mold on shower curtain of second room. Paint chipping. Dust everywhere. I can t believe how bad this hotel was. Completely ruined our trip.
Let me start by saying, every staff member I have had to deal with has been very nice, but this hotel is unacceptable. I currently can't take a shower bc there is no hot water. About 3 hours ago, they called to tell us they were turning the water. Couldn't tell me when it would be back on. Its now back but ice cold. The rooms are not up to Wyndham standards and are in desperate need of cleaning. The wallpaper is coming off the wall. The room is dingy. The door is hanging off the hinges. This is nuts! I wouldn't recommend staying here.
We really had a good time the rooms was clean housekeeping was on point keep them they listened to us and help us yo feel more comfortable
I've personally never stayed at the wyndham, but I deliver there often because I work at a pizza place at the oceanfront. The rooms are your average size hotel room, nothing too fancy. The layout of the hotel can be kind of confusing because they have 3 buildings with rooms. The main building goes up 18 floors and has rooms numbered to 1-10 the second building goes up to 5 or 6 floors and has rooms 11-23 and the 3rd building which is on the other side of the property goes up to 8 floors. They have both an indoor and outdoor pool which is convenient and they also have a restaurant that seems to often be busy whenever I deliver to the hotel. The employees working the front desk are always helpful when I need to find someone.
My sisters and I (7 families) called to reserve our rooms for August 2019. We were told by reservations that we did not have to pay until we arrived at the hotel but had to secure the room with a credit card. We all provided the information only to find out that the cards were billed immediately. When called back to find out why this was happening no one could explain this only that we were missed informed by reservations. Also, we were told that since were had coverage with Nationwide insurance no payment was due because of a special contract they have with Nationwide. ALL LIES!!! When we told them to cancel the rooms we were informed that it would take 10 days to get our money refunded.
How does reservations have one policy and the hotel has another???!!!!
This is POOR BUSINESS PRACTICES and I will NEVER reserve another room here! The right hand surely has NO IDEA what the left one is doing. When the manager was contacted, GLENN somebody, his ONLY explanation was THERE IS NOTHING WE CAN DO ABOUT IT!! WOW!!!
Great spot in the north end of VA Beach a little bit away from the noise of the tourists. Lots of dolphins too!
There are no words that can adequately describe this location. Despite having reservations, I waited in a long line to check in only to be informed that our room wasn't ready at 5 p.m.
Plan B: go to dinner early and await phone call from front desk. Service at the hotel restaurant wasn't any better, long wait for drinks, overheard complaints from other customers, decided to order appetizers and try somewhere else for dinner. Received the call after 6 that the room was finally ready with an upgrade! Thankfully the room was nice , but the hotel is old and not what you'd expect from a Wyndham property. First and last visit here.
Excellent location (close to the main strip but far enough away to not be a part of the busiest section), clean rooms, good service.
Room was not cleaned, we did not have bath towels to begin with and after calling at 8am for towels we did not receive them until after 5pm. A tennis ball was left under one of the beds and trash in one of the drawers. The hall ways could really use some deep cleaning as well. The rooms are not very easy to navigate from the lobby and checking in is a pain. Not very pleased with the stay and it was only 2 nights.
The best thing about the hotel was our view of the ocean. Our first room we received had tools all over the bathroom and the toilet was in the middle of the floor not hooked up. Then we received a room with wet carpet and No I repeat No shower curtain...How is that a missed item in a hotel room? Not to mention we were supposed to have rooms next to our family but because of the no toilet situation there was only one other room to switch to 10 floors down. It s not like it was cheap either it cost 186$ plus tax - so not worth it.
Company Christmas award celebration at the grille. The food was magnificent and the staff was very attentive, especially Anna the front desk agent working that evening
Room should have had a table and chairs to eat at. Especially with room service available
There no ac in hallwsys so damn hot then the WiFi doesnt work the ice machines dont work the phone in our room doesnt work cost to much money for Noting to work in hotel
For a hotel that cost 300+ a night you would think they would be able to hire housekeeping and buy towels. Definetly the worst wyndham hotel ive stayed in. First trip to virginia beach and definitely made the wrong choice of hotels. When you read bad reviews you should probably follow that. Couldnt believe we was told housekeeping was to busy cleaning rooms to worry about towels. When you check into a hotel you should atleast have enough towels to shower each day once and not have to dry off with a shirt. Couldnt even get outlr trash picked up. Had to set it by the overflowing cans in the hallways. We stayed in room 1204 and it could have been nice if it was cleanend. Nasty moldy water in the door seals of the balcony. Rusty and food stained ice bucket. Since the thermostat on the wall didnt work I'm assuming the wire my daughter was playing with was for that. We spent the afternoon looking at places to stay when we come back in a few weeks. The man at the front desk was definitely to nice to be working in a place that didnt put the guest first.
I enjoyed my stay here last year...was in the middle of October and the weather was perfect. I loved that the hotel was in walking distance to the shore (grew up a beach bum) and had a beautiful view from my balcony as well. I will be back!!!!
Perfect view and room. Great price- too bad for no complementary breakfast but awesome happy hour and half price appetizers! I will come back, thank you.
Filthy , hallways are at least 120 degrees .. room is nasty half ripped up carpet, stinks of mold .. disgrace .. don't change sheets for 3 days at a time .. - one star... absolute disgust . Internet sucks, AC in the room is filthy with mold, toilet clogged, no help from front desk what so ever .. complete sham
Showing its age its in need of a complet make over.when we checked in 3 major things were found in our room had to call maint.and house keeping.we will not return
I thought Wyndham had certain quality standards for their hotels. This hotel was very outdated. I didn't feel like I was staying at a Wyndham hotel. Original rate was $159. Really?!?! Good thing we got in on a group rate. This property needs to reno'd and updated. I couldn't wait to get home. On the bright side - great service from the front desk staff, restaurant and bar staff!!!
Everyone was very friendly. The restaurant was good and there was live music on the beach bar. Property is dated but clean.
I wish i could give a lower star. First we were told 4 pm and no earlier. At 4 pm we were told 20 minutes as a supervisor had to check the room. 30 minutes later we were told it wasnt cleaned yet. 30 minutes later it had to be inspected. An hour later we were told room wasnt ready yet. So now seriously its 7:30 pm amd we were told we could cancel without a penalty( ya think!!). I said no we will wait as he was going to take 25% off. At 7:45 i paid much more for a peace of mind. Missed the sunset. Missed dinner reservations. Much better to pay a lil more for the peace of mind and able to enjoy your evening.
Great place to stay for not a lot of money, considering the area. It's quieter on that end of town, the staff was friendly. Pool is ok. Would have been better if the indoor pool was open too. The beach area is nice. At least 40 yards of beach or more before the ocean. The kids and I enjoyed it.
Great restaurant downstairs for brunch. The rooms are pretty nice, too
Staff is very nice and friendly, place is clean, has a beautiful view. It would be nice if the pools were a little cleaner. They should offer more for the price you pay. I can pay less somewhere else and still get free breakfast. There is only 1 microwave in the hotel for guests to use. Their TV options are lacking, which I know we're not there for TV but if there's bad weather and you're stuck in the hotel, you can't even order a movie or use your Firestick on their TVs. They purposefully prevent the guests from being able to use a Firestick or any sort of HDMI entertainment. And the closest restaurant is the one in the hotel which has only a few options and is pretty expensive. So it was fun and pretty but they should improve some things especially when you pay so much to stay there.
Great location, friendly staff but it could do with a little upgrading, paint, carpet. Hot tub needed fixing, swimming area could do with a facelift. Food in restaurant and bar was wonderful.
Nice room, a bit older. No microwave in any of the rooms, but excellent front desk staff allowed us to use their microwave. Parking situation was a bit strange as the hotel is divided into two buildings. Overall, would stay again as the process was very affordable and the room relatively clean.
First room had hair all over the bed, meaning no one had changed the sheets. Second room, the air conditioning didn't work. They fixed it, but then we realized the blow dryer want working. Overall, the place is run down and in serious need of a renovation (like ten years ago). Wouldn't recommend coming here.
I only went to eat at Surfside, but it was very secure as I couldn't enter the pools (or even the courtyard) without a room key.
