This place is a hidden gem. It was clean and very well appointed. The price was great for the location! It also has a great pool.

Dirty unkept rooms. Shady activities in the parking lots and general bad vibe.

Super great hookup site. Guys leave the door cracked and you just walk in. Great place to get laid.

I booked this room for 3 days. While my father was in the hospital. When I returned to the room last night, the room was not serviced. When I called the front desk I was told this was a convenient hotel and they only serviced the rooms on checkout. She did state, I could come to lobby for fresh towels. I called today to ask for someone to take out trash and leave fresh linens. Spoke with the rudest man named Rajue. If I had not already paid tonight I would leave Needless to say this is my last night ever.

Very clean rooms with comfortable bed. I would definitely stay with them again. Excellent location too. Staff was very friendly.

Room service never came during our 4 night stay. No one was ever in the office after 10pm. The pool was moldy and not in use. Only one ice machine in the whole building. Was never able to give extra towels or pillows.

Older facility could do with some upgrades you can see some wear and tear in the bathrooms and the occasional cracked tile on the floor. But it's always clean. The beds are comfortable. The price is very reasonable. The drive-thru check-in is quite convenient. And I've never had an issue with bugs. It is a good value for the money.

Better than sleeping on a park bench. Staff is not helpful, room was not well maintained.

We reserved a handicap accessible room and when we showed up, we going the room so tight my wheelchair wouldn't even for inside. When we went back to the desk, the clerk refused to change our room because it was "handicap modified" meaning it had a grab bar in the tub. When we explained that i couldn't use the grab bar if I couldn't get inside the bathroom, she had no sympathy. She refused to refund the rate, first saying we had been inside over an hour (it was less than 10 minutes according to Google maps), and then saying that was still too long. We ended up having to initiate a fraud investigation with our credit card company.

Not fancy. But it's nicer than you'd expect. Gets the job done well!

Smelled terrible of smoke in a non-smoking room. We had our kids with us and they opened the nightstand to find an old piece of pizza under a Bible. They then opened all the drawers to find two pizza boxes with left over pizza. Floors were dirty. I'm not a very fancy person, but this is nasty.

Varsity Inn OSU South is my staple whenever I get to Columbus for a Buckeye's game. The hotel staff are friendly, the room rates are reasonable (and reasonable has a different price point during the regular season than during the off season) and with a Bob Evans, Wendy's and Tim Horton's right across the parking lot they have you covered all the way from breakfast to a late night burger and coffee 24/7!
It's a little less than a mile walk to The Shoe and that's what keeps me coming back. Just cross the Olentangy River, slide down to the running path and it's a straight shot to The Shoe . I love being able to roll out of bed, grab a shower and stroll across the parking lot for a quick bite before heading out for some B1G football at The Ohio State University. As a side note, for any of you physical fitness types, the running/biking train that runs along the river is a great place for an early morning run or ride!

Staffed very friendly and helpful the rooms very clean The Varsity Inn is close to the James Cancer Center that was the main reason we picked it but we stayed here last week and we're back this week and would recommend it

I've usually received good service with an ok room for the price but on my last visit I found bedbugs in the sink on the third morning. I checked out and asked for a refund, the lady working said she would have to check with the manager and call back. When she called back the only thing they offered was a free night on my next visit. I left a message for the manager and didn't receive a call back after 4 days, when I called back I was able to get him on the phone. He proceeded to tell me that they didn't have bedbugs even though I had a picture of one and said he could only refund one night because he couldn't lose revenue. After I said I still wanted both nights refunded he got extremely rude and then hung up. I won't be staying there again especially after such a rude response, I would suggest other's find a different hotel as well.

Nice clean room for a good price. Good customer service. Woman at front desk was great. Would stay again.

We stay here whenever in Columbus. Nothing high class but well priced and consistently clean.

I have never written a review about any hotel or inn I've ever stayed at. But the Varsity Inn was so bad I need to share. The room I stayed in had multiple flies, as well as dead bugs on the bathroom floor. But that isn't the worst part. I left the Inn with multiple bites around my ankles which I suspected were bed bugs. Now it's been two weeks since I've stayed here and kept getting bit and now I am dealing with a bed bug issue. This place was not clean AT ALL and there is a possibility that you can catch bed bugs from this place. Would not recommend the Varsity Inn to anyone.

Room is very clean but unfortunately some parking lot situation was going on and they had parts of the back lot blocked off. So we ended up having to walk from the front side of the building back when we could have just parked right at our door. It was not congested but it was definitely filled with a good amount of patrons. I would definitely suggest it for anybody else just be aware that there is train tracks behind the building. The location is easy to get in and out of.

I read many of the reviews before my family and I booked our stay. We stayed 4 nights. The room was clean when we arrived. Anything you needed during your stay you pretty much had to ask for. My biggest complaint as a coffee drinker I had to stop at the lobby to get coffee unless we happened to be around when the maid knocked to ask if we needed anything. P.s. if the noise of trains going by whenever this place is not for you. Also we had a microwave, mini frig and coffee maker in our room.

It was mostly clean, the TV has HDMI. The bathtub doesn't drain very well, the fridge *ticks* for some reason, the handle on the tub falls off, the pillows barely function as pillows.

Toilet didn't flush properly. Nobody seemed to care

When we had booked a room we specifically requested the first floor because they don't have elevators and we have trouble when it comes to stairs and one of us was supposed to be having surgery but when we got there they put us on the second floor and our room was small and you could hear the trains going by the hotel on the tracks.

A great location but a terrible hotel. The bathrooms were seriously dirty with black stains on the grout (?mold?) - tile floor was only washed in the center of the room.... the corners had layers of dirt. The carpets were barely vacuumed, you could see dirt and dust and crumbs against the walls and beneath the furniture. The bed was comfortable enough... but the sheets were so thin you could actually view the print of the mattress. The check in process was terrible... we arrived at 330 and were told the room was not ready and the check in time was not until 4 pm and we would have to come back. We waited in the parking lot - there was no housekeeping staff visible ... but then, at 4, our room was ready. They also wanted ID on every occupant of the room! I would NEVER recommend this hotel!

In town for work, first room had a live bed bug and evidence of bed bug eggs. Evidence in 2 other rooms of bed bugs as well as pubic hairs in the shower of the 3rd room. 4th room had mascara on a pillow, 5th room was finally possibly acceptably clean. Went to different hotel later that day instead of staying.

Stayed there several times on Columbus trips. Very nice

Decent room for the cost. No frills, but it was a little dirtier than I would like (the comforter was stained and the hairdryer was covered in makeup.) Not enough to complain about, but I would try somewhere else first next time.

The hotel is okay, nothing fancy, but the train in the back was annoying! My recent stay I was 4 doors from the train, on the 2nd floor. Every 20 minutes, a train would go through.

Smelled like smoke in non smoking room, but comfy beds and nice bathrooms.

Staff is super nice. Travelocity messed up our booking and they were more then pleased to help us out and give us an amazing rate. Clean and the water pressure is insane

Stayed here two nights in different rooms. This is a 1 star hotel with 3 star prices (weekend and during event). Dirty, smelly, not cleaned very well. Only good thing is that it is within walking distance to Ohio Stadium. Do yourself a favor..book somewhere else and taken an uber if you need Ohio Stadium.

Clean room, quiet (except for the occasional rumble of the trains). Coffee maker, microwave and fridge in room. Only negative was the little pillows.

Honestly one of the worst places I ve ever stayed. The room was so small you could barely move, although it said no smoking it smelled musty and horrible like someone had smoked in there a lot. The bathroom was disgusting, the toilet seat was up when we got there and there was dried pee on the toilet, there were tons of hairs in the bathtub, blood on the comforter and although we had the air cranked all the way up, the room was so hot that we had to leave. Miserable experience.

The rooms are small and outdated. I do have to say though, they are pretty neat and clean. Prices are decent, and the hotel is very close to the Ohio State Campus. This is good for coming into town just for a night to see Ohio State play.

Clean however; had that stale cigerette smell and tried 2 different rooms. Had to check out before my original plans due to the smell. Woman at the desk was very nice.

PLEASE do not stay here! They had bed bugs galore and when I requested a refund for my second night showing them the bites all over my body, they refused. The bathroom was gross. I was in the updated bedroom so I was sadly disappointed and disgusted. It's not even a cheap place. Spend the extra little amount and go somewhere else!

Looked clean when walking into room, but upon closer inspection was not. Dirt and hair and the floor, hair and stains on the sheets. However, the staff was very apologetic, and immediately got us another room.

Location excellent. Rooms clean i guess but look old and dingy, need remodeling. Rooms smelled like an ashtray and bathrooms smelled of a dirty mens bathroom. Will not be staying here again

Font desk staff is friendly. Rooms okish, needs more attention to detail. Beds are comfortable. Shower knob was broken but working. Bathroom vent needs cleaning. desk chair all stained up. Location was decent.

Service was great, the room was clean, and the location was perfect.

Missing luggage that was left behind by accident. Returned same day to retrieve. Getting the run around No Reply from manager after repeat calls and messages left with staff. Supported their business for 3 days out of last minute circumstances requiring me to be near OSU medical center. Should've stayed with Airbnb. Everything I had was in that luggage. Never again. I have been very patient. And the manager accused me of smoking illegal narcotic on the property. In a dismissive, aggressive manner. Poor communicator. I had to go find him to determine the issue. He apologized and said he smelled weed smoke and thought it was me. Really ruined my experience!

The room was nice, it had a mini fridge and large TV. Room was clean. The pop machine was empty all weekend. The bathtub wasn't as clean as I would expect at a hotel but it wasn't exactly filthy either. Overall not a bad place to stay.

Not clean.. Spider webs everywhere plus bedding dirty including all tables..

We arrived on 8/24/18 and stayed to 8/26/18 and found out the pool was not available and this was one of the reasons we booked this hotel. Staff does not have a since of humor at all and needs to smile more. Ok once we received the keys for the room we always check the beds for critters. We lifted the mattress and found 5 needles under it. We were discussed. We went back to office and they gave us another room. The new keys did not work so we had to go back to the office a third time and the staff seem to not have a care in the world but was considerate enough to give us 1 free night but the free not did not come till the second keys did not work. Yes the price is good and the area around has things to do but the over all experience was not acceptable.

Room wasn't bad until I saw under the fitted sheet. A giant sweat ring on the mattress. House keeping has had to see it. I sent them a message and got no reply

I just went to pick up my friend from her room, but they have a drive through check-in, which is cool.

Low price. This place is dirty and unclean. Mold growing on the caulk line in the shower. Stains on the bed sheets. As it s to late to change today s reservations I plan on canceling my reservations for the rest of the week and stay somewhere different

Convenient hotel to OSU campus. Decently clean, room had microwave and refrigerator, comfortable beds. This place is a good value for the price.

Convenient location, but not particularly clean and not particularly nice. Drive-through check-in process gives the impression that you're about to spend the night in a gas station. Housekeeping works hard to reinforce that message; they will thoughtfully leave behind the last guest's dead bugs and dried urine in case you are unable to provide your own. Hard to imagine a scenario where this is the option that best fits your needs. It does have an oversized outdoor bathtub cleverly branded as a swimming pool, though.

Easy, clean and close to the city. Rooms are clean and plenty of parking. Not bad.

Standard motel. Pool looked clean, no loud neighbors, decent area, great price.

There was a spot of the floor that stunk the whole time; not particularly sanitary rooms in general. Very outdated technology. Spent forever on hold calling the front desk (in another building), and they had told me they had to go reset the Wi-Fi by hand after a power outage, which took a long time after the power had returned. Not very technology savvy in general.

Room needs modern updating. Lack of open outlets (the TV was plugged into the outlet on the front of the lamp!). Quick check in. Good for the price and close to OSU, as well as stores and restaurants.

Great room for the price. I booked a room with a queen but got two full beds instead which cost less yet still got charged for the queen but I m not mad at all it ended up working out well for us plus it wasn t like the other room cost $50 only $10ish more. The staff is very friendly and polite.

Nice hotel, clean room, efficient staff, reasonable price and central location.

The receptionist was an absolute star and so helpful, answering all of our very many questions (since we are new to the area). There are plenty of stores and restaurants nearby that you can reach on foot. The room was small but sufficient to our needs. A little dirty if I'm honest, but the team of cleaners here were wwilling to clean upon request. Lack of facilities in the room (I.e no fridge or microwave). Nonetheless our stay was happy and we were relatively content with it. Best part is definitely the great customer service from kind and approachable staff members.

Don't expect high end lodging. It is a budget option.The location is close to the medical campus. There is no continental breakfast, but Bob Evans is right there. The rooms are dated but the shower was newer and nice in my room. I had to remove 6 stink bugs from the room which was unpleasant but lots of dwellings have them.

The managementof the Varsity Inn South needs a serious lesson in professionalism. My wife and I took my daughter to Columbus for her first OSU football game. I booked a room through Expedia ELEVEN WEEKS ahead of time. We arrived, checked in, and got to the room to find that they had given us a room with one king bed in it, instead of the 2 doubles that I had booked. I went to the office to straighten out the mistake, only to be told that they couldn't do anything about it since I had booked through Expedia. I called Expedia, so they called the Varsity Inn and spoke to a short-tempered manager who told them the same: even though I had booked 2 doubles, I was guaranteed nothing. With no other option, Expedia (thankfully) did the right thing and booked us in a much nicer hotel and absorbed the higher price of the new place. When I returned the key and told the staff that we were leaving, I received a dirty look and no apology for their very poor service. For the record, I am the very last person you'll see complaining about customer service just about anywhere, but this was awful.

We got checked into the room and wasn't in the room 3 minutes and found a bed bug. Went back to the lobby and she stated that they have had problems with bed bugs before. There's a reason there rates are so low.

First set of keys didn't work. Room was dingier than photos. Refrigerator made constant clicking noise and had to be unplugged. Stingy with towels and they felt like sandpaper. No travel bath supplies. Ants in bathroom. Neighboring room had a party all night, staff only warned them to be quiet, and they only got louder and harrassed us until 6:30am.

Well, came up for a conference with a group and was a very cheap place to stay. That being said... one of my coworkers went to turn on the tv and it didn t work. So, was going to call the front desk and picked up the phone... the receiver was not plugged into the base. She plugged it in and proceeded to call to have no dial tone... the cord was unplugged from the base as well... drove over to the front desk and took her remote, cause no buttons on the tv and had to use the night office... talking to the lady through the glass they have up. Informed her that she needed a remote that worked and what she found with the phone. The lady asked did you fix the phone? Then lady takes the remote to the back and a few mins later, came back and said here is a remote... we think it was the same one, she even questioned it, but the lady said it was a different one. She drives back to our rooms... Goes to turn on the tv... still didn t work... drives back to the office and asked for a room with a working tv. The lady states she has to many people in her room to change... it was one other person. My coworker then stated she will move her stuff too... the lady then stated she had been in the room to long to switch rooms. Then proceeded to tell her to check the tv and plug it up if needed. My co worker then drives back to her room and moves the desk the tv is on, to find old dirty socks and some broken glass. Plugged in the tv that was unplugged for some reason, and it worked fine. Then was looking for a do not disturb thing to hang on the door, opened a drawer in the desk and found and old used plastic spoon, dirty gardening type glove... ok, whatever wasn t going to use the drawer anyways, but very gross. The next day went to get extra towels for our room and same lady asked since we were getting more towels, we didn t need maid service till we left? Wrong... two towels in the room for four people, did they expect us to share? Then same coworker went to use her restroom in the morning and the toilet clogged and over flowed... turned off the water and called the office about that, they came out and later that day... it did it again... called the office again... they came out again. Relies we are up here for a conference for gone most of the time and just there to sleep really. Got back to the room tonight and getting ready for bed and getting things ready for the next day... notice a bug crawling on the desk in my room. It was a roach! I killed it and packed up all my stuff and left. At midnight to drive 2hrs home and missing the rest of my conference because hotels are booked up because of the conference. I don t and won t sleep with bugs! So, if I could give this place negative stars I would but I m not able to, so they did get 1 star from me. I really don t recommend this place at all!

Friendly staff, convenient location, rooms were pretty clean, but definitely in dire need of renovation!
