july 11,2019 stayed overnight,room was spotless, as was bathroom and shower.there was a strong odor of cigarett smoke, but i left door open for a few minutes to air out.next morning at 6:30 am went thru drive thru to return key cards. lady in office did not speak to us, or even look at us, never did acknowledge us AT ALL..

Hotel was near the freeway and had a convenient drive-thru check-in window. Front desk staff was adequate but nothing special. Rooms could use remodeling and we're satisfactory at best. Worst thing about location was the train tracks that were 15 feet away due to the loud noise as they passed every few hours throughout the evening.

The location was fine, right next to the stadium for the OSU game. The inside of the rooms were well kept but the outside was just alright. Looked a little sketchy but we didn't have any issues

Bathroom was very dirty with pipes sticking out of the wall. Snow had not been shoveled so my handicap mother had to walk through snow above her ankles just to get to the room.

Works for what we needed. Trains are a little loud.

Given some of the reviews I had read, I was prepared for the worst when I checked in. However, I was pleasantly surprised by this place. While small, the room was fairly clean. The bed was comfortable and the staff friendly. Sure, the place isn't fancy and has a few quirks (an iron in the room with no ironing board, somewhat thin walls, and an unusual light switch layout), but they did not detract from the quality of the visit. It's a great place to stay if you're in town for a concert or sporting event and just looking for a no frills place to sleep in a convenient location.

Basic amenities, not bad but nothing special, for $80 can't complain, could need some additional training in customer service. I had rated The Varsity Inn with 3 stars, that was before I had to take a shower, then my rating dropped down to 2 stars. They have poor customer service plus the room looks nice from the photo but the bathroom was flat out FILTHY!

Lazy staff would not clean my room which I paid for

Check in was 4pm but we couldn't check in until 12:30a. Bugs in our bed, bathroom was dirty, garbage on floor. Terrible!!

Showed up to around midnight to to get a room for about $65. No one was at the counter, my wife had to call the hotel to get someone to come to the desk. Then he told us a room would cost $115 and that the internet listed price was wrong. We left and didn't stay the night here.

Very clean, close to OSU HOSPITAL. Quiet, lots of places to eat. Has a OSU HOSPITAL DISCOUNT. I WOULD SURELY STAY THEIR AGAIN. Nice Friendly staff!

In the room we got there was pain peaking off the walls. Mold was found in the bathroom and when we asked for fresh towels they brought us floor matts.

NEVER AGAIN!! I am a patient at OSU. Choose this hotel because it is close. The hotel is old and tired, and for the price that is about what I expected, what I did not expect was to find a baby roach in the bathroom in the morning. Thank goodness we were leaving that morning. So grossed out.

This hotel does a great job of filling its budget niche. Clean sheets, NO bedbugs, hot shower, and the tub drains well (big pet peeve when they don't). Some people complain about the trains; I'd hear them every few hours while awake, but they never woke me up. It looked to me like they were working on upgrading to flatscreen televisions when I was leaving. Overall a pleasant stay and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a decent room on the cheap.

A very inexpensive place to stay in the heart of the city near campus. Has easy access to the freeway system and multiple eating establishments nearby.

Room was non-smoking but reeked of smoke. The bed linens had dirt on them. But it was late when we checked in and we were exhausted from visiting at loved one at OSU MC, so we just went to sleep. Other amenities were as expected. So if you're looking for a cheap place just to sleep, this will do the trick.

Did not like being by the train but otherwise passable

Room was non-smoking but smelled a bit like smoke still. Hotel is also right next to freight train tracks, so take that as you will. Spend the extra money and go to the Blackwell instead.

Visiting Columbus, Ohio for business and have stayed at this location in the past. The staff is always very kind and the housekeepers are good about cleaning up regularly. This trip I opted for the renovated room. Personally, I will not spend the money on the upgrade in the future. The renovation (from what I could tell) included a tub surround shower w/frameless glass shower door, new toilet, new bathroom faucet, and lastly new bathroom tile flooring. This is only an updated bathroom and do not believe it counts as a renovated room that is chargeable as an upgrade. Ultimately, I wanted a clean bed and shower and that's exactly what I received.

Decent hotel room except it didn't have a hair dryer and there was kind covering the bed sheets.

Pleasant staffing. Reasonable rooms for the cost. Located close to train tracks, and can be loud depending on room location.

Outdoor pool is a nice idea, but is a bit of a let down as it's operating season is pretty narrow (Memorial Day - Labor Day). A hottub would've been a welcome addition.

Sound proofing seems poor. What seems like water pipes tend to be extremely loud coming from other rooms.

Lack of a breakfast is a downer, but was not a major boon for me considering the food available nearby (Tim Horton's, Wendy's, and a family restaurant).

Overall, a reasonable hotel for the price.

Originally booked a king bed room and I ended up getting a double. When we entered the room the sheets on the bed were stained. There were stains all over the walls. After being in there for a little while we found bed bugs.

The room was decent and clean. Somewhat outdated but not bad at all. There are 3 restaurants within immediate walking distance. If you don t want to get in/out of vehicle for check in/out they have a drive through, which was convenient. Was only a couple miles away from Newport Music Hall which is why I was there. Good experience.

The rooms that have been remodeled are great! Walk in shower, too.

Clean room, comfortable bed, and polite staff. I was in a single king sized bed room and I was pleased to have a sizable desk and comfortable office-style chair to get some work done in the room. Located next door to a Bob Evans, which makes breakfast convenient. I would stay here again when I return to Columbus.

Pool gates are broken and not secured. Rooms are clean and we'll stocked

Basically the same thing as a Red Roof Inn as far as accommodations go. Good experience all round.

Pay no attention whatsoever to the average customer review of this hotel. The front desk was offering discounts to customers that would give five star ratings in front of their face. Ratings are incredibly skewed and their should be an investigation.

Do not be afraid to stay here! Our room was so nice! I had read reviews and followed suggestions to request a room that was somewhat away from the pool and the train tracks to avoid noise. They accommodated us so well. I had brought my own pillows, bath towels and swim towels just for comfort, but the hotel linens and towels are nice and look brand new. I had also packed some food, so the mini fridge and microwave were really helpful. I felt very safe. The hotel is near Target, AMC, Bravo, Champs, Old Navy, Tim Hortons, Wendy's, Starbucks, Bob Evans, and some other very nice places. The OSU campus is an easy walk just across the river. We had brought our bikes along and were able to explore the bike trail, Victorian Village, Short North and the campus.

We were here for a few days of orientation, so this was a wonderful, affordable option.

Room was a little small, but comfortable. Good price.

Varsity inn south is an adequate hotel. It's clean enough, it has hot water, and the linens at least look clean and like they've been replaced sometime in the last 5 years. The locks work. Don't look on the underside of the duvet cover or attempt any complicated maneuvers with the drapes. Those are both bad ideas.

Not a 5 star hotel, but very nice for the price. Room wasn't spotless, but was clean.

Clean and comfortable, but with a few broken things other issues occasionally.

Well, the overall stay hasn't been bad. Room is kept clean, no bed bugs, hot water (And I mean it gets HOT if you want it to) Been there about a week and a half (while a family member is in the hospital)
Issues:
I did get some confusion in paperwork as I extended the room. That was annoying, two days in a row.
I'm out in the second building, and the internet won't work for my laptop.
Said there was a pool. not that it was outdoors (and, of course, closed due to winter) so that was a bummer.
No vending unless you want to walk all the way to the other building's vending area.

Pluses:
Great rate for people visiting someone at the hospital.
Convenient location. Lots of food and shopping areas close by.
Housekeeping is wonderful.

There was an issue at the BP up the street when we got there and were pulled over by police because we matched the description. Not only did the hotel staff accommodate us with a different room, they also gave us another room the next morning because of issues that came up. Very accomodating, wonderful place to stay the night or the weekend. 10/10 would get wrongfully accused of being a robbery suspect again.

It def could have bern more clean. There was an empty gatorade bottle on the floor. There was hair on the bathroom floor. The bathtub was dirty & the wash cloths had hair in them. It def did the job of a 1 night stay. It was what I paid for.

Charged my card twice for a one night stay and the woman on the phone wanted to get rude and short instead of helping the customer. Told me to call back when a manager is in so I can discuss it with them. Not caring that I was charged $230 instead of $115. Last time staying with this hotel.

Pretty much the definition of the a two star motel. It was clean and the staff were friendly. However, the rooms were very out dated, despite being non smoking, the decades of smoking in the rooms made it hard for non smokers to stay here.

Easy, convenient, clean, and fairly priced. Walking distance to The Tree Bar, restaurants, gas, and groceries.

Needs updated badly. New carpet n painted walls would help alot

My mom and I always stay here on out trips back and forth between Ohio State and Connecticut. It is dog friendly with a $10 dog fee. A Tim Hortons and Bob Evans in the same parking lot. We have stayed here a couple times a year for the last 3 years.

Get what you pay for. Cheap Room not really nice but clean.

This place isn't what it used to be but for the price is the nicest around

The one star is for the comfort of the bed which was tripled sheeted with nice linen. The carpeted area was vacuumed and dusted. The refrigerator, microwave, cooling unit and coffee pot were working and clean.
However, the tiled area was not. The tub and shower unit had a thick encrusted line of black mold where the bottom unit joins the wrap around shower panels. It appeared as if that entire joint was never caulked properly and the water has infiltrated the wall board causing a black mold breeding ground. I called for house keeping to remove the offending health hazard but he failed to fully rectify the issue. I purchased Clorox cleaner and a stiff brush and I removed all the visible mold by scrubbing and rinsing with jot water until cleared. I then found black mold build up inside the rim of the toilet and in the overflow hole in the sink. I repeated the cleaning process until gone. The baseboard tiles in this area had build up of dirt and dust, as well as, in the corners. There was a glob of liquid foundation behind the commode that was easily washed away with bleach and water. The back of the shower/toilet room door had traces of this makeup too. Easily wiped off.
The most frustrating part of this 4-night stay was the housekeeping staff not once cleaned the tub nor the toilet.
Beware that the train tracks are elevated just beyond the back fence and the noise is significant. I don't mind this sort interruption as there were no whistle blowing events.
Front desk staff were polite but lack any authority it appeared to me. Supposedly the management was made aware of our dissatisfaction but made no attempt to rectify anything.

A great place to stay. Especially if your gay and horny.

Very cozy and clean. Pool is closed for the season, which is disappointing.

Clean rooms and ease of access to downtown Columbus

Room was what I expected for the price, no frills, has a drive thru for check-in available which I found convenient, bed was very comfortable

Rooms are nicer than you'd think from the outside. Shower was also better than most hotel/motel stays. Hope you don't get a room too close to the train! Quality stay overall

You get what you pay for.
Train outside the door, a bit dirty especially the shower curtain, broken toilet. And possibly bug bites, not sure where they came from (to be fair it's summer and could be mosquitoes).
I've been in worse... And better

Front desk took forever to check us in(drive thru check in) cause lady was on a personal call with friend on her cell phone. Rooms were priced right and clean though.

What can you say about a motel that has been there for over 50 years!
Upgrade

Room was clean but did have ants! Veterans discount was not as much as a senior citizen rate. It is convenient to the hospital and a Bob Evans is right next door.

Normal hotel in the city center for travelers who do not have high requirements

Beds were dirty, one had hairs in it, and I am not just talking about a couple of hairs. The other bed actually had dirty sheets on it. The blanket between the sheets looked like it had never been washed, ever. Will never stay in this place again.

I stayed there last night and before 11am someone was in my room with me asleep in the nude and I spoke to the GM he was very rude and started screaming at me asking me what I wanted him to do about it this place is very rude and violated me and then made me feel like I did something wrong..
Finally when he called back after seeing the cameras he said all he could offer was a free stay there again smh
